    by iammrmonkey!

Fuck you in your "can only be streamed in the United States" ass. I bet King Hulu is sitting in his little castle, fingers in his ears mumbling 'Nothing exists outside of the United States' over and over again.Well, you know what? I fucking exist outside the United States and I shall find where you live and do unspeakable things to you. Unspeakable! So fuck you Hulu. F-u-c-k y-o-u.

...my buddy did and said there is one credit at the end for an actor playing GAY MAN.
For real? Not GAY MAN #1 or #2 or #11,268...just GAY MAN...in Milk.
Cracks me up. maybe he was pulling my leg.

And now the tough guy of Hollywood is reduced to playing flamboyantly gay men.

Not to provide them with an excuse, but I'm willing to be that most of the giggly and snide and nervous and ignorant and immature comments about LGBT folks are being made by people with social circles and worldviews that are just to small to have _knowingly_ included other orientations. Whether that's their own fault is open to question, I suppose--but it certainly does highlight the importance of Harvey Milk and what he fought for. As more people really come to _know_ LGBT folks, fewer find it acceptable to fall back on facile caricatures or ignorant stereotypes or assumptions that are the product of irrational hatred and fear.
(And though they might howl about the "political correctness" and "humorlessness" of those they offend, they usually forget that legitimate humor and critique requires that the audience first see how the subject is similar to themselves.)

  • Penn will most likely win an Oscar for it (Rourke deserves it for Wrestler though)

This is a really good doc.

    by sadcadillac

While I haven't seen *Milk,* I can't imagine it being any better than this documentary, which I had the pleasure of viewing a few weeks ago. In fact, I'd say the *Times of Harvey Milk* were so dramatic and well documented, that a narrative feature, like most re-makes of today, is superfluous. On the other hand, if a more publicly accessible, Hollywood feature brings awareness to Harvey's struggle, which is still very much alive - thanks a lot California, I'm all for it.

    Dogstardude, really?

    by sappers forward

If you don't think the line Robert Downey Jr. delivered in Tropic Thunder wasn't funny, then you really have no sense of humor. And if I'm wrong in assuming Penn is playing a flamboyantly gay man, then I'm sorry. But just looking at the previews it seems to me that his character is flamboyantly gay. I never said there was anything wrong with that. It's just that I know gay men who you'd never know were gay because they talk and act like straight men. Oh, and they have a sense of humor. Also, I have nothing against the mentally challenged. Finally, I have to admit I have no intention of seeing this movie only because I'm as interested in gay men, their plight, or what this movie stands for as I am in knitting. I don't know the first thing about knitting, nor do I want to. Does that mean I hate knitters? So, let it go so the rest of us can too.

    by gamerawangi

Perhaps Dogstardude was a little heavy handed. But then again, no one was ever denied their civil rights/openly mocked in these talkbacks/killed for being a knitter. Ya gotta be there to see there, you know? Glad, also, to know you're comfortable around SASA gays. Know any fems? Not that there's anything wrong with that (rolling eyes).

"reduced to playing a flamboyantly gay man"

    by dogstardude

How is that a reduction? It's a role, nothing more or less. Would you say that Dustin Hoffman was "reduced" to playing an severely autistic man? I'm sorry if I came off heavy handed it's just frankly sickening how many people here are (consciously or unconsciously) anti-gay. As if being a homosexual is the worst thing you could be. As if gay sex would be the worst punishment ever. I dunno, it just seems silly to me that people are so hung up on the idea of where other people choose to put their genitals. Anyway, apologies if I caused offence.

    sorry, dogstardude

    by gamerawangi

No offense taken, at least by me. But you have to keep in mind, it's AICN you're talking to. 99.9 percent, it seems, lives in their parents' basements, and are terrified at admitting who they really are. Don't apologize for anything you said. These "fan boyz" need a slap upside the head when it comes to gay issues. Better to joke about it, than question one's own (or best friends') orientation.
