AB King and his 'scoop' about WITH WINGS AS EAGLES
You all know ABking... He's that fella in TalkBack that's a gigantic Arnold and Stallone fan. Well, he's always keeping his ears perked up about the latest news about those guys and his friend in a far away land heard the story he's gonna relate. Now before you go taking it to the bank, the last I heard about WITH WINGS AS EAGLES was that Randall Wallace (the screenwriter) had directing duties on this film. However, I have to say that if Wolfgang Petersen signed on to direct this... I'd be incredibly excited about it. Take this as rumor...
Hi Harry, I just got the best friggin news today. I was talking to one of my friends today who lives overseas and he told me that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alan Ladd Jr. might have found a new director for WITH WINGS AS EAGLES. My friend said Wolfgang Petersen was interviewed on a overseas talk show and Petersen was asked what his next film will be. Petersen said "Arnold and producer Alan Ladd Jr. has approached me to direct a war film called WITH WINGS AS EAGLES." My friend said Petersen even talked about almost getting the directing job for END OF DAYS.
I believe my friend is telling the truth because Arnold originally wanted Petersen to helm END OF DAYS but that never came to be. It seems like WWAE is going to be more KICK ASS than I thought since the director of IN THE LINE OF FIRE, AIR FORCE ONE and DAS BOOT might direct Arnold in EAGLES. I'm so excited that I'm going to read the WWAE script again.

Isn't "Arnie" doing Doc savage next & "Wolfgang Petersen" is right now directing "The Storm". This is the third directoe AB King has attached to this film, the other 2 were Jim Cameron & Paul Verhoeven. But I have to admit, if anyone other that Jim Cameron is to make this film it has to be Petersen. I guess this narrows down Jim Cameron's next project to either True Lies 2 or Avatar.

yeah that would be cool if wolfgang directed this film. nothing better than WWII films. however, i heard his next project is the perfect storm. a really cool book by sebastin junger (sp?) it is about the andrea gail, a ship that encounters a feroucious storm in 1991. george clooney and marky mark walhberg are set to star. filming begins in august in the boston area.

Hi people, I was just as surprised about the scoop as much as you. Wolfgang Petersen is among the directors whom I would love to see helm Arnold kicking Nazi ass. Like I said in my scoop, my friend told me about this and he *usually* tells the truth. I want to see Arnold mention WWAE during his interviews for END OF DAYS. By the way Harry, the last I heard, (which was last week on Variety by columnist Army Archard) a new director is being sought for WWAE, so Randall Wallace has to be out of the directing chair.

Listen..i like In the Line of Fire and Das Boot (and Mr.Ford) as much as the next guy...but seriously, Air Force One is more on the caliber of Outbreak...pure popcorn fluff and not quite the powerful cinematic classics the above the first two afformentioned films have come to be.

According to "Corona's Coming Attractions" the script for WWAE is based on a novel written by Randall Wallace's uncle James J Cullen, called "Ostermann's War" and is based on Cullen's experiences in WW2. But a search of "Amazon" reveals there is no such book or author. According to "Stainless" it is based on a book called "On wings As Eagles" something about Ross Perot starting a rescue mission in Iran. Can somebody find out what is the REAL name of the book and who the autor is and put it on the feedback ASAP. By the time Arnie finishes making "The Sixth Day" with Roger spottiswoode and then Doc Savage, Jim Cameron should be ready to direct as well, could it be that these two will team up again for the "really cool" project.

Hi litestorm, I also searched for OSTERMANNS WAR at amazon and came up with nothing. There is a BIG mystery with that novel being found. If you really want Cameron to helm WITH WINGS AS EAGLES (I know I do), go to (www.celebrityemail.com) and email as many messages to Cameron himself about directing this war film. The message goes straight to Camerons own email address. All you have to do is type in: Cameron, James in the box. Another thing you can do is go to James Camerons many websites and leave messages on the message board asking him to direct WWAE. I'm sure Cameron or his camp monitors those sites once in a while. I sometimes email Jim at celebrity email and with your help, we can see Arnie and Cameron make film history again by making the BEST war script ever written, WITH WINGS AS EAGLES.

Over the last weeks I have been researching into this topic and I have come up with the following conclusions. In recent times there have been 5 projects linked to Jim Cameron. 1. SPIDERMAN: I think it is obvious to most now that Jim will not be directing this project, because the rights are with MGM/Universal and also David Koepp is now writing a new screenplay, so Jim's involvement is out of the question. 2. TERMINATOR 3: again the rights are likely to be with Universal, also Jim has said in the past, he feels he has said all he had to say on this series. 3. WITH WINGS AS EAGLES: I don't think Cameron will do this, firstly it is a Paramaount Project. Secondly, Rae Sanchini at Lightstorm has already said they have nothing to do with this project. Thirdly, Arnie has just done End of Days, is doing Sixth Day next and will follow that up with Doc Savage. This means doing WWAE will mean 4 back to back pictures. Plus we have just had 2 WWII films and the idea of a third one so soon is unlikely to appeal to Cameron. 4. TRUE LIES 2: Cameron has said in the past that there is a another True Lies 2 movie out there. But realistically after Titanic, a sequel to True Lies will feel like somewhat of a letdown. Cameron as we know likes to break new ground with every project, especially on the F/X front. True Lies 2 is unlikely to offer him the challenge. Plus as I already stated above this would also mean arnie doing 4 back to back films. although I would not totally rule out True Lies 2, it does seem unlikely choice to be Jim Cameron's next project. 5. AVATAR: Now to the project I think Jim will choose as his next. The idea of the first fully digital human character ever on film is likely to appeal hugely to Cameron. It will allow him to once more push the envelope to the max and come up with another first. This project has been Cameron favourite for some time, but was reportedly put on the back burner due to budget problems and the lack of special effects to convincingly create a human character digitally. But the delay in Jim's picking his next project could indicate that he is biding his time till this is possible. I know a lot of people think that this project will not get made for some time yet, but if I were a betting man, I would put my money on this as Cameron's next. I wuld love to get your views on this AB. Also AB, can you bring this piece to Harry's attention and try and get his views on this please. Let's all try and work out Jim's next project. As this will be THE most anticipated film on my list. Hope to hear from you soon.

You make good points litestorm. Those are all the properties that Cameron have been linked to and one of them has to be his next. Personally, I wish it were WITH WINGS AS EAGLES but like you said, Jim wouldn't do a war film too soon. TL2 is a must and could be his next film. T3 is in legal hell. Forget SPIDER-MAN, Jim left that long ago. AVATAR would be amazing and could be his next (either AVATAR or TL2 is next if I were a betting man also). I am as much a Cameron fan as I am a Arnold fan and would love the oppertunity to ask Jim one question (like on Larry King live). I would ask him if he would ever direct Arnold in WWAE and when to expect TL2. I will email Harry with your request. You should do the same and tell Harry to come on this topic to read these last few messages. ABking out.
