BNAT Footage Fest: Massawyrm knows little of KNOWING!!

Published at:  Dec 23, 2008 10:13:04 AM CST

Hola all. Massawyrm here.

This is going to be a short one. Of all the new premiered footage, Alex Proyas’s Knowing was the most lightly represented. Lacking a trailer (neither the first nor the radically different second), most of the audience once again had no idea what they were looking at – but they showed us a scene of what I presume is somewhat early in the film. For those of you in the dark, this film looks pretty damned sweet. It’s about a piece of paper dug up in a time capsule that contains numbers – numbers that give the date, time and number killed in every major tragedy for the last 50 years…as well as the future. It’s the kind of story you’d expect out of M. Night Shyamalan back when M. Night Shyamalan wasn’t making irritatingly self absorbed movies.

The scene they showed us involved Nicolas Cage running through a subway station trying to warn people and get them off of a subway car. Things escalate, people as normal for this kind of film) don’t listen and think he’s crazy. Then Another train hits a bad spot in the track (a jammed switch), flies off of the track and starts mowing down dozens of people standing on the platform as well as crushing the first subway car. It’s pretty brutal (without being gory), and you can see portions of it in the new trailer which has a number of surprises of its own.

I am eagerly awaiting this film, because 1) it looks pretty badass and 2) it’s Proyas. But sadly the footage didn’t wow me. It looked like your standard big budget fair and I wished they’d showed us something moodier – something including these mysterious whisperers. But color me still very curious. Knowing is due out March 20th.

Until next time friends, smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em.

Proyas + Big Budget? No Way!

    by sam_keith_wannabe

You're excited because it's the same guy who did I, Robot (what a masterpiece that film was!) but you say it didn't wow you because, "It looked like your standard big budget fair". Man, what I wouldn't give to get back to those days when Proyas did art piece, make-you-think movies like I, Robot.

Nic Cage being in this makes me think it will be another piece of shit. His track record has been horrible lately.

ain't been good since dark city. i'm sorry, but i robot is a terrible movie and lacks the visual style that made him such a unique filmmaker.

are you guys all crazy? have you actually seen DARK CITY? can you tell me in what way exactly it's anything other than a visually stunning oddity, with no meat whatsoever, and a very ill-deserved cult-status? Oh, shit, I've come to the wrong place to ask that question.
