Enough said.

Best I could do.

Series is far better than the "movie" - its a shame that turd gave the franchise one more unnecessary kick in the nuts. I've caught all of them but "Ambush", and aside from Bombad Jedi (which has its moments) wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to fans. Rookies and Cloak of Darkness are arguably the best of show.
-
Yes the movies were shit, not 100% shit but still shit. This stuff is 100% shit. hehe

And here's why: Gearoge Lucas had his paws all over the Clone Wars movie. The series he left alone.
-
yep.
-
Yes, the frst 30 minutes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was horrible, then, something strange happened, it got better and was easily bested any of the Star Wars Prequels, and I found it more entertaining than The Dark Knight which was so self important that it forgot to entertain. Why so serious??? That was a question The Joker asked during the latter movie, but I could ask Chris Nolan the very same question?

This series is surprisingly good. I was going to watch it just to say I did. After the movie, I was a little worried. I somewhat enjoyed the movie, but later was just annoyed by the silliness of Ahsoka, Jabba Jr., and the gay Hutt. But the series (dismissing Bombad Jedi) has been phenomenal so far. This is what Star Wars fans have been wanting to see. Seeing jedi fight side-by-side with the clones and seeing how they relate in battle. Getting to see the other jedi (i.e. Plo Kloon and Kit Fisto) in action, and not just as side characters either. There are episodes that revolve around them. Even Ahsoka doesn't bother me in the series. They toned her silliness down from the movie. The episode with her and Luminara battling Ventress really turned my opinion around of her character. I actually found myself being bummed that the show was going off for a couple of weeks for holiday hiatus. If you haven't seen any of the episodes, then definitely try to catch up this week. I don't know why they aren't showing them in order, but there are certain ones that form a story arc. The Manevolence episodes should be watched together. The two Droid episodes should be watched together. And Cloak of Darkness leads into Lair of Grevious (which scrapes the surface of Grevious' history, making me want to know even more).
-
Yep. It nearly KILLS me to say it, but the show is actually not horrible. I tuned in originally for the sole purpose of watching it fail miserably so that I could take a big shit on it (yes, I'm just exactly that petty), but against my will, I found myself actually kind of enjoying it. And yes, there is something about it that seems to harken back to what we liked about the original trilogy. I have no problem whatsoever saying that I think it's probably a little better than much of the prequels themselves. Hurl whatever typically douchey Talkback insults at me that you feel you must. But sorry. I can't help it. God help me, I think I kind of might maybe sort of like this fucking show. ???
-
what is creative about this series? going over different battles in a war that means nothing and adds nothing to the canon...and the animation gives me a headache...lucas totally pussed out when he refused to create real sequels to show what happens after the fall of the empire
-
People should give this a chance. It really is leaps and bounds better than the movie and some of the episodes are better than the prequels (coming from a non-hater of the prequels).
-
Lucas decided there would be no Episodes VII, VIII and IX in the early 80s when he folded his plans for the final trilogy into Return of the Jedi. There will never be a sequel trilogy, there's nothing to tell. The bad guys were wiped out and their leaders killed. Do you want to see three movies about Ewok picnics?
-
For insulting and casting out your most hardcore SW fans from the '70's and '80's so you can mindfuck their children and the rest of today's kids with what's left of your reputation by not even putting forth an effort. As a marketing genius, you are still a Jedi. As for films, you are either a shell of your former self or have always been a charlatan. Federal laws ban the exploitation of children yet some how over 30+ years you have skirted, you cruel fucking bastard. (I guess you could call this a "clean" version of the South Park parody of him raping Indy)
-
This is the best Star Wars since the original trilogy.
-
I'd like to hear more about kwisatzhaderach's Ewok picnic idea, i'd watch it. I was a bit dubious of this animated series, even though i enjoyed the prequels, but i think its fantastic. Feels like Star Wars to me.
-
Wasn't that supposed to be rearing it's ugly head on the tv airwaves by now?
-
to each his own
-
I love the prequels. Deeply flawed yes, but still better than most of the shit that passes for summer movies today.
-
And yes I liked the movie...it was fun...which is what Star Wars is supposed to be. The series though has gotten better as it has gone on with the most recent "Lair Of Grevious" being a real highlight.
I even like "Bombad Jedi" because it's an episode that seems to deliberately take the piss as if the writers know how much everyone hates Jar Jar and decided to just have fun with it and go way over the top.
And in spite of the fact that we know what happens at the end there are still some unanswered questions like just what the heck is gonna happen to Ashoka? She's not in ROTS because she hadn't been created by that stage so logic dictates that she either has to leave Anakin's side before the end or die at some stage. I would guess the former but the show has shown Jedi being killed so who knows...
Which brings up another issue...this article makes the assumption that Clone Wars is just for kids...well it's aired at 9pm and there are some pretty dark events in some of the episodes. It is aimed at kids but like the movies there is a lot there for older generations to enjoy and some things that the more sensitive children might want to avoid.
In fact I would guess that the audience for Clone Wars is made up of teens and adults more than kids so perhaps you should watch the show before dismissing it. -
It has flaws but I would argue that the overall arc of the trilogy is better than the original trilogy.
Don't get me wrong, I still prefer the originals, with ANH being my favourite, but the originals were essentially ANH and a 2-part sequel whereas the prequels were laid out as an actual trilogy.
Palpatine's rise to power was masterfully done, Anakin's turn was...it wasn't perfect but it was still fairly logical to a point where Lucas had you almost believing that Palps was right right up until Anakin killed the younglings at which point you realise just how vile the corrupting influence of the Dark Side is.
Lucas also did the impossible...he made the story of the originals even better..what do I mean? Find someone who has never seen Star Wars (very difficult) and show them the originals....then show them the prequels and finally the originals again.
The second time you watch the originals, especially ANH, it all takes on new meaning. Before when Kenobi looked at Artoo he didn't recognise him. But now it's as if he knows but he's keeping the truth secret...the film is full of little moments like that, especially from Alec Guinness. It's almost as if Lucas took him aside back in 75/76 and told him exactly what happens in the prequels and that informed his performance.
The prequels have their flaws, most of which can be found in the originals as well...less than stellar acting? Check...whiney lead? Anakin yep...Luke yep. Stilted dialogue? Check. Over the top villain? Check...Palpatine just loves being evil in both trilogies.
I know a lot of you guys hate the prequels and that's fine. For me...yeah they could have been better but I walked out of Phantom Menace with a big grin on my face and it was the same with the other two. -
Yes some of the comedy is aimed towards a younger audience, but this show does have it's fair share of darker moments too. Take the Troops episode for instance. The episode takes the time to introduce the clones, give them all seperate and distinct personalities and then kill them all off in the remaing five minutes. What cartoon on tv today does that?
On another note, if all you saw was the film (or parts of it) then you need to know that the animation is improving as time goes by.
If you are a SW fan, then do yourself a favour and head on over to StarWars.com where you can watch several episodes for free.
And oh yeah, the show looks fucking great in HD. I'm already looking forward to the first season Blu Ray.
-
Anyone who doesn't like the concept of IG-88 assassin droids and still calls themselves a Star Wars fan is fucking kidding themselves.
-
Did you think it would be the second coming of Christ or something? Jeez.
-
then the prequels. Even Jar Jar wasn't as annoying.
-
It's not the second coming by a long shot. As Shatner once said in another context "It's just a TV SHOW!" Of course we know that-- but that doesn't change the fact that this one is an enjoyable diversion. If you have the time but are skeptical, give it a look. I hate the prequels and I find this show entertaining.
-
Is one of those comments that says nothing about your subject and an enormous amount about you.
-
Its always a drag when they focus on Anakin or any of the characters we already know, but its a lot of fun when it focuses on the secondary or new characters. Its nowhere near as witty or visually inventive as Tartovsky's series, but its entertaining. If I was an 8 year old (the target audience in case you were wondering), I probably would have loved it. As an aging gen-xer, I like it okay, but, you know, I'm old now; if Star Wars still effected me the same way it did when I was 8, I would clearly be mentally ill.
-
sorry but its BETTER than Tartakovsky his animation was way to comical, hell his was worse than an episode of Pokemon.....I'll take this version any day.....For the life of me I don't understand the love people have for that hack.......
-
Watching a pissed off teen clone( perfect clone at that) of Jango Fett beginning his bounty hunter career should be mighty interesting viewing...and a major jump-off point for the forthcoming live action series.
-
they've stated that they have begun preproduction, but havent moved much beyond some script work and building a show bible....
-
That's it. Merry Christmas.
-
Why does the guy in the freeze-frame of the DROIDS clip have a vagina on his head? Was that high fashion back in the day? Like wearing an onion on your belt?
-
So far I saw the first 6 episodes or so and was very entertained by at least 4 episodes. And the other two didn't suck.
But the most fun for me is to imagine how the typical Star Wars fan watches this, creams his pants everytime someone dies, and yells at the TV: "Hell yeah, people die in this! This is SO dark and mature!" but than the androids do some funny stuff "Roger Roger"-stuff and the fan starts crying. "Boo hoo, George Lucas raped my childhood."
:) -
Wilford Brimley sequel trilogy??? Does he ever return to Endor? I need answers, here!
-
Too bad this show didn't come out prior to the movies...Lucas would have been able to build a better storyline from it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the prequels, but this series is pretty damn good and would have been a great base to work from. Too bad it was done in reverse order.
-
"Not actually too awful" is a compliment. I'll stick with Lost.
-
This show is one of my DVR highlights. That's not saying much, maybe but I really enjoy it. What it has that the other CW series didn't is a great ambience. Shit like those IG-88 things coming to life and the ensuing fight - really cool and moody. Plus after reading the Secret History of Star Wars, I find it interesting that this series comes close to what Lucas originally envisioned - that is, a serialized, more story-of-the-week vehicle. One thing I find strange though is it has some childish moments but also some pretty serious violence.
-
The show is actually a lot of fun. People who say that 'it adds nothing to the canon' really need to examine their lives. I have a feeling that a lot of the 'haters' on Star Wars secretly like it, but since they think that it's cool to rip on SW and George Lucas on message boards, they bitch and moan just to do it.
Just give it a chance, and I think you'll be very entertained. They do a great job of linking the two trilogies in my opinion. -
If I watched the first two episodes and was not impressed, is it worth it for me to watch any more or is it pretty much the same?
-
I actually ENJOYED the prequels...I did not think they were as good as the original trilogy, but I thought they were fine additions.
-
I wish some of you would get over your blind hatred for the prequels and give this series a chance. As usual you gotta love the people on here who bad mouth it without seeing a single episode. LOL
-
I wasn't a huge fan of the first couple of episodes, but as the series moves on, the shows get better and better
-
My very first experience with the new Clone Wars show and its...yes, Jar Jar.
-
...Show . Hate the movie. Except the Jar Jar episode. Lucas you closet racist F*cker.
-
seriously, catch up on it now while you can.
bigshinyrobot.com has been doing episode recaps and reviews and... seriously, the show is better than you think it is... -

are fucking morons. Other than a few throwaway episodes (Bombad comes to mind), this has been a great series to fill the gaps of The Clone Wars. Hell, you get to see several characters get knifed by a lightsaber...and you know that Anakin's Padawan is gonna get it. I can only imagine that Dooku will do it which plays into why Anakin went the extra step to choppy the Count's head off. Good stuff.
-
I really admire the way Lucas has agreed to make him the fall guy for so much stuff in the SW universe because of the audience's negative reaction to him. For those that call George an egomaniac, I think that's definite proof against that idea.
-
Especially the episodes "Destroy Malevolence" and "Cloak of Darkness". It's far superior to the live action prequels and the Clone Wars movie. The T.V. show actually has that old school Star Wars feel in tone and look. MAN!! What a difference makes when George Lucas doesn't direct or gets his hands on this stuff. Hopefully he stays FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS GALAXY from now on and let's the t.v. guys just do they're stuff.
-
Paul Dini (Batman the Animated Series) wrote the episode "Cloak of Darkness" and that episode kicked butt!!!! Seeing that ugly bald headed chick fight the two female jedi was cool.
-
but I have to work for a living.
-
Like the series A LOT. I'll even say its better than previous Clone Wars cartoon that people piss themselves over. The entire Malevolance arc was an outstanding way to start the series and it should have been what they used in the movie. I also really liked the episode Rookies that focused on the Clones and also one of the more recent episodes that focued on Kit Fisto doing battle with General Grevious in Grevious' Lair.
-
Most people that come on these boards work for a living, that's why it's a good thing that this "cartoon" comes out on Friday nights at 9 p.m. Long after most of us are already back home from the long drive from work. Ahhh....just to kick back after a hard day's work and watch a 30 minute t.v. show based on Star Wars. Pretty damn relaxing if you ask me.
-
The best eps so far are "Ambush", "Rookies" and the "Lair of Grevious." Clone troopers are getting to be like red-shirts though, you know they're just gonna be cannon fodder.
-
...of course he's never heard of DVR but he's working, Goddammit, he DOESN'T HAVE THE TIME!
-
He's an indentured servant. It's a hard life.
-
I've enjoyed most of the episodes so far, and two or three of 'em -- the one where Anakin leads the squadron of Y-wings and "Rookies" -- were the best "Star Wars" since the OT. Hopefully, this show will stay far away from the Senate and Coruscant and continue focusing on the war. I was not a Prequel hater. The first two were OK and I LOVED "Sith." But THESE are the stories that should have been realized on the big screen.
-
If we all know the Clone Wars were engineered to manipulate and ultimately destroy the Jedi, who wants to see a series about all the boring ass battles? Make a series about the twenty years or so after Episode 3 and I'll be back in the fold again.
-
Rickey's digging the hell out of it. Now if only Rickey's cable provider carried Cartoon Network in HD... argh.
-
And overall they are pretty good. The series is a vast improvement over the other animated SW fare like Ewoks and Droids. People seem to forget that other than the original movies, SW has ALWAYS had its crappy side - does anyone remember the Ewok Adventure live action films? CRAPPY!
But, the BIG problem with the prequels and this CG series, is that I can't get my head around those stupid battle droids... when more advanced models are featured, the show is fun, but when those spindly bird faced droids are around the show loses all of its dramatic tension. You can't have killing machines doing a Mark's Brothers routine and still expect them to make the audience feel suspense or dread. I don't know why they have not done away with that concept they way they ditched Jar Jar after Episode 1. -
... Lair of Grievous. Partially because it was relatively Padawan-free, and that it contained both Kit Fisto and Grievous. I have been under the impression that they have been secretly stealing ideas that displayed in an online RPG that I took part in a few years back on TheForce.net, and this episode pretty much confirmed it.
-
"Is one of those comments that says nothing about your subject and an enormous amount about you."
That's by far the funniest line I will hear all day... thx!
-
I recently rewatched Revenge of the Sith, and I found that the moment of the clones turning on the Jedi was more poignant after having watched a few of these episodes. In the episodes, you see how the clones figure themselves to be as expendable as droids, but the Jedi think otherwise. It makes the betrayal that much more insidious. Others have noted that the series feels more like the OT, and they are right. It does not take itself so seriously. Of course, I think it helps that the audience is not taking it as seriously as it took the PT, as well.
-
That one is definitely my favorite. Loved when Ventress just put that lightsaber through Argyus' in the end. Great writing by Paul Dini "Rookies" is another great one.
-
Tartakovsky's take never really felt like "Star Wars" to me. It felt like "Samurai Jack" with some Ralph McQuarie/Doug Chiang designs and faux-John Williams music slapped on. And though that could be fun every once in a while, it never became priority television for me in the way that the new "Clone Wars" has.
-
...you elitist, exclusionary splitter.
Oh... and... Merry Christmas. -
I saw that in TV Guide two weeks ago and was like "Wow, Sulu's voice is going to be heard in the SW universe!"
-
but only if you love Star Wars, like I do. I really wish you could love Star Wars, too, but I don't really care. I am glad, however, that none of you are the deciders, because the world of art and entertainment would suck if you were. I am glad that you continue to be the professional appreciators that you are. Merry X-man!
-
John Smallberries
-
Was that bit in one of the episodes where Plo Koon and a handful of troopers are stuck in this escape pod whilst a battle droid detachment pops the lids off the other escape pods, looking to kill all remaining survivors. A pretty cool, tense scene, with a good escape too.
-
So, if the droids pop the airlock they all die. I'm pretty sure they showed them successfully killing offa bunch before getting to Plo and his pals. Thats another great thing about the show is that the bodycount is pretty high for a kids show (that isn't japanese).
-
Is the best thing on TV right now. Plus I thought the movie wasn't half bad. That action scene climbing up the side of the cliff was better then anything except the Yoda fight in Star Wars 2 and 3.
-
Yes, I'm a deeply biased hater.
if any writers and/or animators with any talent were allowed to do Star Wars cartoons, you wouldn't be scraping the bottom of the barrel and calling this crap good.
It's like watching TV late at night when there are lots of movies on but they're all the crappy sequels. When it's the only thing on, it seems like it's a good idea to watch... you ask yourself why you don't remember watching these in a long time... ghostbusters 2, or Young Guns 2, or Teen Wolf 2 or, ...you get the picture. So ...It seems like it's a good idea to watch these, but when you get about halfway through them, you remember why you don't watch them.
I will go on record that even though I am a hater, animation wise ST:TCW is MILES and MILES about the back alley craptastic Tartakovsky Space Samurai Skywalker, though that isn't saying much. I think there's better animation than both of them in the Knights of the Old Republic old PC video game.
OK there I'm done with my rant... flame away.
-
He's said such controversial things, such awful things, never before uttered by a geek. Certainly not in this talkback that was otherwise overflowing with pure praise and adulation.
-
I have watched every episode of Clone Wars and I have enjoyed them all,for a 20 minute blast it's good quality (nice 1 Sky,no ad's),I'm surprised after the TB's on the theatrical film (never bothered to see it,TB's were a good read though) but It's alright by me so far and more mature than I thought it would be,I'm glad I kept an open mind..I tape SWCW,Harry Hill and Match of the Day and watch then all earli [;>] Sunday morning,a winning combination http://tinyurl.com/8mc2z2
......So much so that I have taken the opportunity to watch the Prequels my way and my way was this..Phantom Edit,Attack of the Phantom,Tartakovsky Clone Wars,Unmolested Revenge Of The Sith, and then Star Wars Revisited to top it all off.All in all I enjoyed the Prequels this way a hell of a lot better than I did before, the commentaries on the phantom cuts were informative and I have a greater appreciation of a editors role and how that guy put together the films in a way which built and protected Anakin's character and did damage limitation on JJ Binks and other stupidness that ruined the level for me in the Lucasfilm cuts.Tartakovsky's Clone Wars is a masterpiece and still holds up for me no question.Revenge Of The Sith I enjoyed a lot more this time round rather than feeling that I had to get it out of the way, although for me it still feels like highlights and that it could of been paced over 3 films,Time is the healer I suppose,I haven't taken it personally since 2005,life's too short(George you pissed me off goood, but thanks for the reality check you swine,I'm better for it ;>,you will never get another penny from me,you may have my time though, bless ya man,and although my versions do not include midichlorians to your original specifications I appreciate you inventing them so that a religion cannot be made in your name by some tosser in the future, still a crap idea though, you should of let the people dare to dream). If any of you get the chance to obtain SW Revisited take it,it is the 2004 redo's redone to be in line more or less with the original, fixing continuity errors and other bits and peices that should of been adressed in 2004,although I could do without a couple of changes, past having the laserdics on DVD(check,Can't test me man),it's a good peice to have on the shelf.I tried to watch the Ewok films as well as I had never seen them before but had to FFW them and knocked them out in 15mins each (x16),they were bad and although a part of me wanted to work out what happened to the crow woman at the end I just couldn't rewind it to find out.Ahhh Star wars eh.....Roll on Dr Who on Xmas Day....PS thanks for not mentioning Robot Chicken Part II Herc,I had to obtain it all by myself,I'm going to watch it after Raw,I hope it isn't crap. -
Its not great, its got flaws, but its mostly good and I'm certainly entertained. I know all my kids (students) love it. I think the biggest problem it does have is a lack of tension whenever saga characters are involved; because you know no matter how much shenanigans and conundrums the prinicipal characters get into -- Anakin, Obi Wan, R2, 3PO, Padme, Yoda, et al -- we know that can't really be harmed. BUT, when the focus is on ancillary or new characters, the tension is there and it really works. Thats why the best episodes are the ones that don't focus too much on the movie's principal characters...
Anyways, its not perfect, its not as good as Tartovsky's (sp?) show, but its good. -
The battle droids pay off every episode. Their stupidity beats the snot out of what Jar Jar was supposed to be. The fact that they can's shoot anything and kill eachother and then JOKE about it to Grevious, who then in turn kills them, (what a runon) is FREAKIN FANTSTIC. I also like that they take their own lives without regard to themselves, then the more xtream version are scary as crap, even when they say "Roger Roger". This series finally takes the source material in the right direction. It feels very gritty like ESB. BTW -- Anybody else notice the Old Republic Sith statues in "Lair of Grevious"???? That was an AWESOME payoff for SW nuts.
-
because both sides are just fucking puppets being played and in the end they'll all be wiped out like stupid fuckin shmucks with no matter.
-
I love him, Rex, and the boys. But I can't handle that the Palp GO66'd him personaly, and he's all, dead Obi? Fine with me.Yikes.
-
The statues in Grievous' Lair are that of Kaleesh, Grievous' former race.
Wow... I am a nerd. -
Like in the "Lair of Greivous" episode, he just picks one up and starts hitting the Jedi with him and throws him at them! Loved that part.
-
if you're referring the "warrior" ones Kit Fisto remarks about, then those aren't of ancient Sith, but rather General Grievous before he was a cyborg, when he was a great Kaleesh warrior (as depicted in the SW Insider article detailing his history, and a couple other places).
-
Seriously, can her white jumpsuit get any tighter? Damn, how does she breath in that?
-
I love the talkbacks for CLONE WARS related articles. A bunch of 30+ year old grown men using terms like "canon" and complaining about the animation, story or character arcs in profanity laden diatribes. All for a kids cartoon show.
-
Kids cartoon or not, it's a good show. Why so serious buddy? Learn to relax and have fun. Let the kid in you come out once in awhile. 30 minutes of kicking back (being a kid again) is o.k, then I'll spend the other 6 days and 23 1/2 hrs being an adult.
-
Many are obviously still attached to momma's teat.
-
You know it to be true.
-
Shockingly better than the movies. Plural.
-
I totally agree with you- that was the point of my post. It is a kids show and should be enjoyed as such. Not nitpicked and questioned to try and meet the laughably high standards of over- analytical adult who look for logic and life-changing television in a show that is a cartoon, on a network that is the home of Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound and stars robots and little grean creatures with laser swords. I love the show, I loved the movie. I guess my original post sounded like I didn't.
-
Anyone who frequents this site, let alone makes a post on a talkback, is still attached to the preverbal teat. This site has made is bread and butter off of people like us (you included!).
