... sci-fi television has ever seen (and I'm a hardcore TOS trekker (watched them in the early 70's like they were messages from God). That god-awful original Galactica show had me steer clear of this one... until several friends insisted I watched it. Frackin' fantastic show.

An honestly great piece of read on the "How to", "Where you at", if you are interested in writng at all. (I personally like John August's blog as well). Jane went on hiatus on her writing blog last week? Two weeks ago? But it is informative if anyone is interested.
She started in fanfic, I believe. Fanfic. Is there anything it can't do?

... loves Dr. Who and Stargate -- instead of a sci-fi show that entertains and takes chances.
Dec. 19, 2008, 11:54 p.m. CST
No shit...the highly stylized BSG reinvention seemed pretty sweet until the producers exhausted the SF/metaphysical well and starting giving megafacials to the fans.
Call me when this fucking mess is over, and I'll be happy to pick through the wreckage and confusion...this thing stinks to high heaven of a SOPRANOS finale black-screen.

There is no WAY they would kill Athena off-screen in a fucking webisode. Either Webisode 4 must be nothing but three minutes of CPR, or that was another No. 8 model in a Colonial uniform.

If they did kill Athena in a fucking webisode, I'm going to be really fucking pissed off.

Are you sure? I thought she was simply a generic Boomer.
Dec. 20, 2008, 3:06 a.m. CST
Boomer is with the main cylons and the other one was not in a Colonial uniform and is not Athena (She is wearing a cylon uniform as seen in season 4)
Dec. 20, 2008, 3:08 a.m. CST
In fact, now that I think of it, the last time we saw Athena was in a jail cell

Is is after they find Earth? Or just before? No-one seems to think Tigh is A Cylon and they are constantly on the move
Dec. 20, 2008, 7:47 a.m. CST
All Cylons can tell each other apart even if we can't. Neither one is Boomer nor Athena.
Dec. 20, 2008, 7:48 a.m. CST
For now they are on side. Of course, they're still against Cavill, Simon and the rest. I'm thinking the Galactica is going to be destroyed in the last episode so they would probably be destroying the sets even if they were gonna make more Galactica, which they aren't. What they could do is a spinoff set post-Galactica.
Dec. 20, 2008, 7:53 a.m. CST
"When is it set??"...I believe the first webisode mentions 9 days after they find Earth. Which I guess is kind of a spoiler for the last half of the season, since it seems they dont(cant) linger there long, since apparently Cavil's Crew has found them. However, from the looks of things, they have allowed "good" Cylon integration. You'll notice those 2 Sharon models were just wandering about on the flight deck w/o a Marine escort, and Tigh has apparently been kept as XO. So far the webisode has been shaping up to show that someone intended for this frak-up to happen, but the question is whom? As for the Sharon Models on the Raptor, the one who died was just some random Cylon pilot. The one who Gaeta knows is less clear...all we truly know is that she was helping him out on New Caprica during the Resistance movement, and I expect we'll get more flashback nuggets in time.
Dec. 20, 2008, 8:48 a.m. CST
in 4.10 and walking about as if nothing had happened. Which is one of my major beefs with the show. They spend a long time showing Ellen Tigh and Jammer going through a long period of soul searching in doing what they think is the right thing; it doesn't look that way to the others and they end up being killed. Life is unfair and these events show it.
Then you get Helo and Athena getting free pass after free pass after free pass for no good reason. I find this much harder to swallow than the scifi or the mysticism. Also it throws away the whole point of Jammer and Ellen Tigh's story.
Dec. 20, 2008, 10:53 a.m. CST
She would make more sense to zap that the regular character, these webisodes all seem a bit clunky and unneeded to me, bring on the series.
Dec. 20, 2008, 11:19 a.m. CST
Supposedly that Athena was killed. Then the scene was deleted. There's *a lot* of cut footage from "The Hub" episode.
Dec. 20, 2008, 11:39 a.m. CST
Deleted Scene 6:
FakeAthena: Just watch this stuff here. The Six. What’s going on?
Six: They’ve landed boarders. We’ve seen some Simons, some Cavils. Be careful.
FakeAthena: All right. We’ve gotta get D’anna to the control room.
Helo: No, that’s not the plan.
FakeAthena: What?!
Helo: I’m not saying I agree. I’m saying it’s my orders.
FakeAthena: So I pretty much made a prize fool out of myself, didn’t I? Trust.
Helo: No. Look. Sharon.
FakeAthena: It’s all been a lie.
Helo: Sharon. Look.
(A Cavil shoots FakeAthena dead. Helo shoots Cavil dead.)
D’anna: Can we go find the President now?
http://www.galactica-science.com/battlestar/blog/episodes/season-4-deleted-scenes-part-3-of-3/

That just seems like a union thing so that someone will have to get paid to rebuild it later.
Dec. 20, 2008, 12:18 p.m. CST
My guess is that they need the space to build new sets for new shows. That's usually how it goes, I would imagine.
Dec. 20, 2008, 1:31 p.m. CST
On second look, that does not appear to be Athena. Her uniform looks at first glance to be similar to a Colonial Pilot's uniform, but it's not. See here: http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?image=notathenacu1.png

Also, I would bet that "destroy" is a bit of an over-exaggeration. Sci-fi clearly seems to be interested in continuing to exploit BSG, but without having to pay for a regular series. "Disassemble" is probably more accurate. They just want the soundstage available and uncluttered with sets from a show no longer in production.
Dec. 20, 2008, 4:26 p.m. CST
They are auctioning off most of the sets and props. The ending of the series must be definitive enough that the story continues without those places / settings (if at all). It's a very Kubrick thing to do-- liquidate everything so it's difficult for someone else to cash in on its notoriety years down the road. At least a lot of the items will be auctioned, as opposed to outright destroyed.
Dec. 20, 2008, 5:50 p.m. CST
That deleted scene, when it was filmed did they not switch it so that the interaction you mentioned in your post takes place AFTER they have rescued D'anna and are back on there own Baseship (so no Cavil's around).

I recall the look on FakeAthena face she looked well gutted to say the least.
Dec. 20, 2008, 5:57 p.m. CST
I Read the link, guess they did film it one way and then ditched it and filmed it the other way.

Dec. 20, 2008, 6:10 p.m. CST
I'll have to rewatch the original series, but I'm pretty sure it was a C and not a G. I'd give good money to hear old Tigh or Adama bark that out just once. It's pretty lame that a centuries-old civilization only has one freakin' swear word.

The first webisode shows Gatea all fucked up and bloody and says this is nine days after they discover a shittified Earth.
However the story starts 3 days after and is told in flashback, to show how he gets to this state of affairs.
On a side note, in my opinion Gaeta could do a lot better than the pasty white guy he seems to be romantic with.

Dec. 20, 2008, 11:52 p.m. CST
I think the cause of death was revised by the writers to "tripped over a couch and died" (no seriously). In other words, a probable loose end that may never be addressed further. They might have just moved the scene and cut the end of it instead of refilming it, I guess one Base Star looks like another.
Dec. 21, 2008, 3:24 a.m. CST
of the series. What's that about?? And the little girl that played Lukes daughter on Gilmore Girls is now on the soap "Young & Restless", and she has a nice round ass now!

the woman always gives great commentary, as well as writing. And yeah, her blog is fantastic for advice for new writers. Though she did say she had said everything she wanted to say with it, and would only be updating very occasionally from now on.

Ok, and he's in a lonely Raptor. The suspense is killing me! I'm pretty worried about the so-called glorious ending of the series.
Dec. 21, 2008, 8:23 a.m. CST
Why didn't they do fewer episodes? It's so annoyingly short, I hardly care. Also, kuryakin, I think they're somewhat limited on who they can date on the ship... unless there's a gay cruise ship in the fleet. ( That would be an *awesome* episode. Do a love boat homage with most people in drag )

that this show has been my second favorite the last few years next to The Shield; but I gotta say that I have lost interest in it past wrapping it up with this last season. I think it really has to do with how they started to handle airing it when they found out they had a hit on their hands. Splitting up seasons so that it's really only half a season? They drew out the anticipation to where it's anti-climactic now. Yeah, I want to see what happens and who the final cylon is, who doesn't after watching from the beginning? I'm just not as excited about it as I was when the second or even third season was approaching. It's almost a feeling of relief knowing that's it's almost over. Weird huh?

Right in the miniseries, it was he who set the course for Earth. he says it out of the blue, so where did that come from?....

Never saw that one coming.
Dec. 22, 2008, 7:14 p.m. CST
I would have had those set's! Coulda transformed my living room into the Galactica bridge, or had a Viper out in the back garden, to sit in while I collect my thoughts or work on my memoirs. Frak!
Dec. 22, 2008, 7:27 p.m. CST
...but I can't watch, what basicly amount's to a free advert for a TV show, via the internet in the UK? Frak you sci-fi! At least torrents have no such restrictions. Damn The Man!
Dec. 22, 2008, 7:49 p.m. CST
These 2 & 3 minut clips aren't worth it yet. Wait until someone compiles all the parts into one episode and puts out on the net.
Dec. 23, 2008, 12:06 p.m. CST
Although the sets have been dismantled and/or destroyed, it is notable that in one of the BSG videos at SCFI.COM (saw it several weeks back so not sure if its still there), Michael Rymer claimed TPTB are very interested in doing theatrical BSG movies.
Probably not very likely but then again you never know - maybe Glen Larson will get an offer that he likes and share the film rights.
