JUDE/FOUR FEATHERS Screenwriter To Pen Paramount’s Next Jack Ryan Thriller!!
I am – Hercules!!
Hossein Amini, Oscar-nominated for his “Wings Of A Dove” screenplay a decade ago, will pen the next installment of the movie series following CIA man Jack Ryan.
The new movie appears to be yet another reboot with no relationship to the stories depicted in “The Hunt For Red October,” “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger” and “The Sum of All Fears.”
Amini also scripted “Jude” and “The Four Feathers.”

...and then realizes there's no way in hell they'd call him for this.

There you go execs, feel the excitement of the masses...

Best voice over speaker in the history of mankind.

I'mt not a fan of his, but I really like "Sum of all fears". So I wouldn't mind, if he would play Jack Ryan again. But I would still prefer Harrison Ford ;-)

Where the Sum of All Fears are Watching the Patriot Game...YOU ARE THERE

I'm a huge Clancy fan and loved all the Ryan novels. Hated Afflecks incarnation. The one thing I've wanted forever was a Without Remorse movie. John Kelly/Clark was IMO the much more interesting character and should really be brought to the big screen. Liev Schrieber's work in SOAF as Clark was probably the best part of the hole movie for me.

Affleck, eh. But the rest of the movie was very, very effective. The Cold War stare-down routine, Freeman, Goldsmith's score. That was a movie's movie, a glossy, but very good big budget studio picture. Why the fuck are they hiring the hack that ruined The Four Feathers with its political correctness and it's anti-Imperialist revisionist bullshit. Great, I can't wait for the African tribesman to lead Jack Ryan on a visionquest using some sort of root-based drug and heavy drumming.
-
Really? How about something remotely interesting.
-
Sum of all Fears was a good movie that was crippled by Affleck.

Didn't Harrison Ford recently say...

He'd like to play President Jack Ryan? Why not run with that? And get Noyce back.
-
One of the worst casting decisions in cinema history. The Hunt For Red October and Clear and Present Danger are great films btw. Danger looks like a masterpiece compared to the shit served up by today's hacks.
-
The Sum of All Fears was a decent enough entry in the series, a little bland perhaps, but Affleck was pretty good as a wet-behind-the-ears earlier incarnation of Ryan. Must admit I'd like to see Philip Noyce direct another one though. Clear and Present Danger is a superior thriller that, unlike most, assumes it's audience to be intelligent.
-
Affleck is an ok actor. He's just no Jack Ryan. Ford should've been the go to guy for new Ryan films. No matter what Clancy thinks.
-
James Cameron could pull off Without Remorse the way it deserves.

Yawn
I am underwhelmed by hearing/reading this info...
Always enjoyed Tom Clany's Novels that dealt with Jack Ryan...but each and EVERY movie made from the Books have been god-fucking-awful!!
Each movie (yes, even the ones with Harrison Ford in them) were totally miscast and the storylines were completely butchered and totally not worth watching -
Yes, they have to pair down the story significantly, but those novels are all long and complex. I didn't like Sum of All Fears, though. Maybe because it was my favorite book of the series, but it was such a pale shadow of the original story. And Affleck was pretty badly miscast.
-
I can almost here the plaintive, nasal whining through my computer screen.
-
Enough said.
-
It's not like the last one made any money anyway. And they've gone through so many actors as it is. This isn't James Bond, people. And he keeps getting younger. Who are they going to get now - Shia LeBouf?
-
Without Remorse was an awesome book and it would make an awesome movie. That is all.
-
decent Daredevil flick in a few years.
-
...can they mix it up a bit and give us a sassy, teenage Asian American lesbian as Jack Ryan? Or maybe go deep into Ryan's past and do it Look Who's Talking-style? Seriously, the suits don't seem to thrilled with everything else they've chucked at the series...
-
Affleck sinks any project he's involved with in front of the camera. He is box office poison personified. Anyone who asks "why all the Affleck hatred?", this is your answer. He's a sucky actor who also has zero charisma. The studios tried to make a silk purse from a sow's ear with this one, and turned everyone off. They were looking for an American actor who basically could just fit the suit. Subsequently the've wisened up and also hired many foreign born actors for these kinds of leading men roles, with great success. That's why his great bud Matt Damon stays as far away from him as he can.
-
I really hope so. He could do a good thinking mans Jack Ryan, not stupid Ben Affleck. I want to see a real actor play him again.
-
Why are all these loser fanboys literally jerking off to this guy the last few weeks. It's every TB, "Hamm IS Superman" "Hamm IS Ryan" No, he isn't. he's literally no one. He's been great on two seasons of one show, and had the absolutely worst part in a shitty sci-fi movie last week. This guy is no one special boys. He doesn't even look cool. Get a grip.

Don't "reboot" a movie that's SIX FUCKING YEARS OLD!!!
by nasty in the pasty
Not that I liked The Sum Of All Fears, but wasn't that supposed to be a reboot of the Ryan franchise? Now they're doing it...again? Just like The Hulk and The Punisher, maybe they just plain CAN'T call "do-over!" again.
-
Start the movie with Ford, end with the "DAD! DONT EAT THE COOKIES. DEMS IS FER SANTA!!" kid.
-
like a Taiwan prostitute. I don't see what's so bad about the guy. I mean, I wouldn't take his load but I think he's a decent actor and he has more Oscars than I do. And I respect that even back when he was big, in the Armageddon/Good Will Hunting days, he still did Kevin Smith's little goofy films.
-
He has made plenty of bad movies (Reindeer Games) but listening to him in interviews and commentary tracks, he seems like a pretty likable fellow. And given his performance in Chasing Amy, it is evident he can act in the right circumstances. I really don't understate the hate. And I thought Clancy went on record saying Affleck was he favorite hands down, so he wrote a new Jack Ryan prequel book specifically with Affleck in mind (named Red Rabbit or something like that). Frankly, I don't think any of the haters here have 1% of the talent of a guy who directed Gone, Baby Gone and wrote Good Will Hunting.
-
Don't worry, everyone - they are BOTH as great as you think!
-
I think he's a crappy actor with zero screen charisma, but he's director with promise that can improve. I listened to a commentary track he did and he sounds like an amiable, nice guy, not some Hollywood jerk-off. But that doesn't change my opinion that he's a worse actor than even Keanu Reeves, aka The Human Redwood.
-
Hunt for Red October was the only one that got it right. That said I thought Sum of All Fears was a good movie, and Affleck was surprisingly alright in it. That said I don't think he is the best choice for Ryan. The series should be kept in the Cold War where it belongs. Plus I think Clancy fucked up by making Ryan a higher and higher rank and ultimately President. It took the series out of the realm of possibility and into fantasy. What I really want to see is a Without Remorse adaptation. Mr. Clark is the fucking shit.
-
He said that Affleck was the Jack Ryan he always wanted to portray and that Harrison Ford was all wrong. I haven't read a Tom Clancy book since. Call me weird, but I *always* envisioned Jack Ryan as the Harrison Ford type. When Patriot Games came out, I just about died, thinking it couldn't have been more perfect. Ford is too old now, I'll give that. I know it's heresy , but I still think that Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger are superior to Red October. I'll even say the movie C&PD is better than the *book*.
