TR2N ...All 3-D!!
Merrick here...
I've been busy playing with myself since learning of TR2N's mega-babe casting (details HERE). Now this news about the film comes in from Ford Fairlane (a previously tested source), and I'm not sure how much energy I have left...
Here's what Ford had to say:
I think the masses would love this tidbit of info. Tron 2.0 is going to be shot ENTIRELY in 3-D. They are really excited about what they are going to be doing with the Tron world in 3-D.
With new technology, they can actually wear the glasses at the monitors as they shoot & it will show them exactly how the 3-D will look so that they can get exactly what they are looking for.
If there has ever been a world that 3-D would totally embrace, I think it would be the world of Tron. Specifically, we are going to get a first person view from inside of a light cycle in the film. That should be a lot of fun.
There's so much to imagine here...

I did KP when I was an MP, in 1ID, did it on the QT, but I went AWOL and they thought that I was MIA, but I was really The NCOIC of a OP.

Have been waiting for a modern Tron film ever since the computer game.
-
Interesting that this source is calling it TRON 2.0 instead of TR2N....

Remember the first 10 years after Jurassic Park? Suddenly everything was CGI. Bad CGI. John Carpenter made a sequel 'Escape From' movie- with bad CGI. Jan de Bont decided to remake 'The Haunting' - with bad CGI. You started to feel that scriptwriters were being made to write stuff that incorporated CGI - even if it had no relevance to the story. Going to the movies started being like eating too much candy. Too much bad CGI was making films synthetic and sickly. Finally, with movies like Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight, there's a swing back. The important thing being that what matters is the script, the story, the characters, the action, the drama. I'm not opposed to Hollywood embracing developments. I think that James Cameron used good CGI, and will probably use good 3-D. Ditto Robert Zemeckis. But please let's not all jump on this bandwagon. Tr2n being in 3-D is actually the LEAST exciting thing I've read about it.
-
I mean, it IS the 21st century, you know.
Anway, screw this. Who the hell is gonna wanna see a sequel to a forgotten movie done 30 years ago?
Bring on Star Trek, the The Second Coming of 2009. -
eyeballs after Avatar?I love how the advent of big screen tv's have led the studios back to the fifties when 3-D was to get butts in seats because of the beginning of television. Whats next William Castle-like buzzers or electroshock?

The stupidity of the doofus that came up with that title...
by jackpumpkinhead
...is amazing. Is it "Tratoon" or "Trtoon"? Or maybe "Tree Toon"? "T. R. Toon"? But if so, then why not "T. R. 2 O. O. N.", as it should be pronounced if it's an acronym?
Really, the twat's insistence on still using it must be due to stubborness at this point. "I don't care that 2 looks more like R and nothing like O! I'm using TR2N! TR2N is my idea, mine, mine, mine! It's great! Go out of my sandbox, waaah!" -
Tron is a good vehicle for 3D. The film will likely end up being largely synthesized, anyway. While I agree the use of 3D is mostly cynical and marketing-driven on the part of the studios, a few filmmakers are experimenting with 3D as a new narrative technique. I'm very keen to see Coraline and Avatar as examples of the potential of the technique.
-
looks really cool when it's writen in the original logo font, as it was in the promo/trailer footage. The top half of the '2' is exactly like the top half of the 'O'. It only looks stupid when written out normally.
-
SMELL-O-VISION!!! I mean, if we're going to recycle. Only, it won't be a scratch and sniff sheet. It'll be some device that sits on your nose that pumps the appropriate smell at the requisite times.
-
Gotta go with kwisatzhaderach on this one. The 2 in the middle will look more like an incomplete Omega symbol, giving it the look of a "O". This phonetic thing everyone's doing with this and Seven (or Se7en) is getting old quick.
-
it will probably end up with something after the title like TRON:Lightcycles go smashy.
-
I think its a bad idea to have a title that needs to be translated. However, I think it's a good idea to film it in 3D... but they should only release that along with a standard 2D version. Not everybody enjoys wearing those stupid glasses.
-
yes please

I think it was in the initial press stuff. Anyway, Chud mentioned it in early October . . .
http://tinyurl.com/64hwr9
Slashfilm had it about the same time. Do a search on The Google for TR2N 3D and you can see that it's been out there for a while.
I'm sure there will be a 2D release as well. Just as there has been with Bolt, and will be with UP. 3D Only Releases are generally reserved for retrofitted 3D products, like Nightmare Before Christmas, and the release of Toy Story and Toy Story II in 3D will also probably be 3D Exclusive releases. But I expect Toy Story 3 will play in 2 and 3-d, like Bolt, and like Meet the Robinsons, and Chicken Little, and probably TR2N.
-
Sorry. Also, Beau Garrett will also be in 3D. Good news, people. Good news.

WTF is up with all of these fanboys creaming their pants over Avatar when we haven't seen jack shit from it?? I guess these are the same people who hear about a movie that is gonna be made and they say how it will "suck balls", not having seen one stitch of film. Jim Cameron is a great film maker, and he has made awesome movies, but people are acting like Avatar is the second coming of christ and know alomst nothing about it. Par for the course around here I guess.
-
All you Tron haters can go shove off. This movie is going to be awesome. David Warner needs to make a Cameo! And Bit they need to include Bit! Damn Yes / No... that was dialogue. We need a reprise of The Black Hole now.

Just thinking ahead. I mostly watch movies on DVD now. So should I hold off on the 40" plasma until the 3-D version comes out? Is that the next home theatre advance? Or will there just be a 2-D DVD?
-
When other filmmakers are calling Avatar "the game-changer" it's clear something cool is on the cards. I'm just expecting a well made sci-fi adventure movie, something I haven't seen in years. Cameron knows how to shoot action and the prospect of seeing him deliver a new sci-fi film is pretty exciting to be honest. I was a big Cameron fan from Terminator through True Lies and can't wait to see if he's still got it. Everyone else can look forward to McG's Terminator all they want, i'm sticking with Iron Jim.
-
Put that on the movie poster.
-
Not bad!
-
Tron! 3D!
This screams IMAX? -
... I was for "Speed Racer" and "Dragonball Z" ------> not.
"Tron" was a cornball movie and an embarassment to sci-fi lovers growing up when it came out. My only hope is that they will reimagine it like Ronald Moore did with "Galactica" (god, the original "Galactica" show was a joke back then. Now everyone treats it like it was a high-watermark. The new show puts all other scifi shows to shame.) -
double d's in 3-d
-
Now there is some old school CGI that would rock in 3D.

Who cares, when TR2N will be fucking your eyeballs in 2011?
by ricarleite
Great. Totally lost interest on this. I'll buy the soundtrack if Wendy Carlos score it again, but i SERIOUSLY doubt anyone in Hollywood remember/knows who he/she is.
-
Viewers would experience the illusion of all 3 dimensions + the 4th dimension, time, in a liquid form making it able for you to experience the entire movie instantaneously from any point you choose. Linear thought is so 20th century!
-
Bank on it.
-
She not only did the soundtrack for TRON, but A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and THE SHINING. She's pretty much classic.
-
Avatar is not going to do as well as most of you expect. Esp. if it is being shot entirely in 3-D and there are problems with converting it to stadard format for DVD/Blu-Ray.
-
Spooge in 3D is a bit much though. Don't want that "comin' at ya'".
-
It's just a stupid gimmick that physically hurts the viewer. I don't know of a single movie that was improved by 3D, and when you look at 3D movies in 2D they just look goofy as shit. Beowulf is a good example of this, some shots are purely designed for 3D, but in 2D they just look awkward and make no sense.

Enjoy your flat screen. You'll want to watch even crappy television cuz it looks so good.

The game was actually quite cool. Doing battle using the disk to deflect shots was fun, and the light cycles part was really done well (power-ups, and online multiplayer tournaments!) About the 3D stuff, most of the time I find it to be a bit distracting
-
isn't all this 3d racist against epileptics and people who suffer from mind-slicing migraines when all they can see is cgi and stereoscopic high-deffery everywhere in their periphery for a hundred and fifty minutes? not to mention all the blu-red ray quality valve-piped digisonicry.
i don't WANT to have to go to an IMAX to see films. i lIKED video. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH VIDEO? -
in regards to why some people are looking forward to AVATAR, for me
1. Its not a sequal/prequal
2. Its not a reimagining/reboot/remake
3. Its not a fucking superhero comic

Police will have to search Tr2n movie goers for LSD.
by leafar the lost
If there was any 3-D movie where the use of hallucinogens would be encouraged by the film makers, then this is it. The other film that comes to mind is Disney's "Fantasia". Generations of college students have placed LSD under their tongues, put in the "Fantasia" VHS or DVD, and watched their television's melt
into the a pool of strawberry ice cream. -
...the Bat-Pod in Dark Knight bears more than a slight sonic resemblance to the light cycles from Tron? Not sure if this is on purpose or not but I found it interesting. The story idea I've heard for this sounds boring tho. I really liked the idea of Flynn turning into a badguy but if this is all hipped up like "Hackers" it's gonna suck. TRON should be more epic and less flashy (altho Jolie boob shots are always welcome).
-
That is all.
-
....
-
If so, well, FAIL. I remember them giving me headaches in the past. If no cardboard glasses are required to view the movie, then I'll give it a shot.

TRON Cycles: Better than Empire Strikes Back snowspeeder flight
by yotzvonfrelnik
I remember being 10 and seeing that snowspeeder scene in Empire and WOWEE the senses of vertigo I got! People in the audience would go "WoooaaahhhhHHHHOOoooo!" whenever we'd see the landscape rise and dip from the pilot's POV. This 3D TRON thing will probably give us anime-quality epilepsy! Cool!
-
you buy the DVD, and it comes with the glasses. you put on the glasses and watch the movie. The question is, can they give you the option of not watching it in 3D without having to duplicate the whole movie? Maybe on blu-ray, probably not on DVD. If not, it's just an excuse to do one more "especial edition" box set.
-
We just think T2ON looks better from a design perspective. We are right! But, clearly, it doesn't matter what its called, we just want it to look cool and hopefully have a decent story to go along with the visuals.
-
I played the TRON 2.0 game. I got it at the recommendation of someone who liked the visuals so much. I guess I'd say...
I liked the visuals; they were fun. I did not so much like parts of the first person shooter experience due in part to the jumping involved. You can go online and compete against people in 3rd person perspective, but I didn't do that much. Also, I used cheats a lot in the FPS game. I remember some powerful opponents might insult the player, and I destroyed it in mid-insult: "I've met compound interest programs that could fight better than -- YARRGH!" or some such.
My favorite game for disc combat alone is still the Intellivision game of TRON : Deadly Discs. I think that's what it was called. I thought it was the best representation of disc combat. You could send discs out after characters and recall them again with another button press. You could use your disc as a shield, which made it possible to break opponent discs. I don't recall the circumstances that worked in. -
just call the shit Tron 2. it'll suck regardless of what it's called, but still a novel approach...
-
lets focus on making a good film...good writing, direction and acting...worry less on trying to use the latest new or "in" Technology
-
Now THERE is a use for 3D. Unless there has been a HUGE leap in the ability to render true to life 3D effects...doesn't the whole 3D thing have more than an hint of Gimmick about it? Does a good movie need "The Tingler" or "Sensorround" Sound? How about just making a quality film and stop looking for a gimmick to sell it.

3D displays are the future of home theater. Once everyone has grown bored and unimpressed with their hi definition LCDs with the disillusionment inherent to familiarity, 3D screen televisions, at least the polarized versions if not the new tech being worked on that won't require glasses, will be the new trend.

...if there ever was a movie that could benefit, it would be TR2N. And, yes, I really dig the new title. The recent "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is a prime example of how 3-D normally ruins a film. I hate the way they shoehorn special scenes and angles into a scene to force a 3-D experience on the audience. Please, Hollywood, STOP the 3-D madness!!!

Retarded idea.

It'd been touched upon here but the practice is fucking retarded. Anyway, looking forward to seeing The Dude kicking ass. When is the Black Hole remake?

...Imax, as in BIGGER is the way to go, not this gay ass gimmick that should have stayed dead. HOWEVER, if any film would call for 3D, its a Tron sequal. They are gonna have to do something really fucking impressive tech wise to top the aesthetic mind fuck of the original. I doubt they will.
-
...will there be Tron flying mini-discs in the Shreddies box again?!
-
I'll gladly take a BC headache powder to watch this movie, since I apparently won't have any other choice now.
-
laserpants and the rest of the unfaithfuls.. if you're not excited(salivating at the mouth kind of excited) at the prospect of big jim returning to big budget sci-fi, implementing all the best tech modern cinema can offer, then you have no business calling yourself a movie buff. and i really have to wonder why you even bother hanging out at a movie site.
listen, i have watched some of the best movies the world could offer - movies by kurosawa, fellini, truffaut, hitchcock, spielberg, so movies is in my blood. and there's no other movie i'm more excited to see now than cameron's avatar. no need to see the poster/trailer, dont even what to find out more about it. those things more often distract than help. i rather go in clueless and let all images be revealed to me on the big screen for the first time, and in context. if you could have faith in one filmmaker, have faith in jim. -
an artist like frank miller try his hand at film, and you guys dont even give him a chance, and just dismiss his film outright based on the dimwitted reviews. cameron is making a movie after 12 years hiatus? yeah, it will suck! tarantino's glorious basterds? fuck the cast! it lacks the star power and charisma of dolph lundgren!
meanwhile thank you for keeping ratner, bay, mcg, and even paul anderson in business. you guys bitch about those hacks all the time and yet you still give them your money, all the time. so... fuck you. yeah. F-U-C-K Y-O-U. -

As there seems to be a mini-Avatar discussion in this TR2N/Tron 2/Whatever the fuck it's called TB, thought I'd pitch in with a question:Has anyone seen the early examples of concept art that I believe were posted on latinoreview.com?Unfortunately I don't have a link as I found them late one night, plus there is NO GUARANTEE that they are actually genuine, but if they ARE genuine I feel a little disappointed. The concept art I saw was for the Naa'vi or whatever they're called. While they had plenty of cool detail and accessories, the creature itself looked VERY human, from the facial features and general body structure right down to a human, five-toed foot. Sure, they had blue skin and were very skinny, but somehow I was expecting something a little more ALIEN, perhaps a touch of feline about it.Maybe this stuff has already been discredited as fake (if anyone knows please let me know). Even if it is genuine, a pencil sketch is nothing compared to a fully rendered CG creature. Also, nothing can stop me from getting excited about a new James Cameron movie, as he has been gone for FAR too long and it's nice to have him back doing what he does best. However, I can't shake this nagging doubt I have.Hopefully we don't have to wait TOO long for some actual footage (teaser early 2009 maybe? Possibly even attached to Watchmen?), so here's hoping that eliminates my doubts...
-
This is really old news guys! C'mon - MarketSaw had this ages ago. I thought I might be reading something new and kick ass!
-
I went to Drudge for some reason justa minute ago and there was a link that said Eddie Murphy set to play Riddler. The link went to the London Sun of all places and also tipped that Shia Lebouf would play Robin and Rachel Weizs was Catwoman. On top of that there is a cliffhanger ending. This is an amazing story for a movie that hasn't even signed on its writer or director yet. Do they have a crystal ball in their office? What do you suppose their sources are? A starbucks cashier who overheard a WB intern who was talking about his fanscript?

Just because someone doesn't think James Cameron's next film will be the second coming hardly disqualifies them from being a film buff. Personally, I'm interested to the project, and tentatively looking forward to it, but I care fairly little for his career, and fail to see how Aliens, Abyss and the Terminator's makes him a sci fi god. Alfonso Cuaron has only directed one science fiction movie, which made far less than any one of Cameron's films, but I'd place it higher on my list of all time greatest science fiction movies than Cameron's entire body of work in the genre. Avatar fanboys can't jump into every goddamn talkback insisting everyone ignore the subject at hand to focus on a movie they've already projected a masterpiece and not expect the rest of us to become at least a little annoyed at it all.

3-D, A Great Selling Point: Thanks 4 Giving Tron2 A Real Chance!
by media messiah
The addition of 3-D will give Tron 2 a huge chance at the box office, unlike the original, which for some reason didn't draw large audiences, although people loved the following arcade game and largely came to know tron because of the game.
-
(Cue Ogre)
-
just for trying to sound so 'hard' on a stupid net forum
-
you can't blame the entire movie geeks community for being excited for a new cameron's film. if our excitement annoys you, then the problem is with you, not us. i'm more annoyed of the people who's already on attack mode of the film, just becuase they think it's 'cool' to be contrary(i'm not talking about you specifically).
and what cuaron's sci-fi? you mean children of men? how is that even a sci-fi? because it takes place in a near future that look exactly like today's world? i love the film, but why compare it to cameron's films? both directors go for different kind of films. -
Otherwise, FUCK 3D. Seriously.
-
It takes place in a dystopian future and, like all good science fiction, tackles current social problems with metaphors. No hard and fast criteria exists to define science fiction, but the broad consensus since it came out is that Children of Men is a sci fi film. Some movie geeks don't like Cameron, I'm one of them. It doesn't make me any less of a geek. As a correlating example, I love Quentin Tarantino's movies, and can't wait for Inglorious Bastards. Many geeks on this site hate him, and bombard every talkback relating with snarky negativity. I've learned to live with this, and only really get into it when they use lame criticisms like "he's self-indulgent". Again, I'm interested in Avatar, I just tire of seeing "fucking your eyeballs" roboposts in every talkback.
-
children lacks anything remotely futuristic. everything looks 'normal'. i've seen my share of distopia sci-fi, and the (slightly)futuristic element(gadgets/appliances, way of life, etc.) is always there.
but even if you want to categorize it as a sci-fi, cameron is going for a different kind of sci-fi - the big spectacle action oriented kind of sci-fi. so why compare the two? both movies were going for different aesthetic.
i said if you're not excited for big jim's big return, then you are not a movie buff. and it was meant for those nutcases who outright dismiss movie's potential, thinking it will bomb. you know, the always negative, always love to be contrarian bunch. you say you're interested in the movie, so i have no quarel with you. :) -
is a brilliant fiction film, but it's not science fiction. A film set in the future does not automatically categorise it as sci-fi.I am looking forward to Avatar as much as anyone, but Motoko posting the "fucking your eyeballs" comment on every single talkback is very fucking irritating.Give it a rest!
-
Children of Men is a brilliant... blah blah

and the third one should be TR3N and in 3d. Or more logically/stupidly TR3dN. Actually, by that stage it really will be a TR3ND!
And by then Jay "The Tron Guy" will have exploded in a spontaneous geekgasm. -
back to the early 80s and Prince albums where I couldn't tell where the track number ended and the title began, or to a horrifying near-future where stupid fucking kids and their SMS text-speak have become ubiquitous and accepted as the primary form of stunted communication. At which time (4d - the fourth dimension is actually time) I ascend the bell tower with my trusty rifle...

version of the teaser is not available yet...

The old Days of Thunder cinema ride at Canada's Wonderland pumped new car smell into the room at regular intervals. If TR2N's gonna go 3D, it might as well go with Smell-o-Vision as well.

The theater chair from Clockwork Orange.
Honey you hold our seats while I go to the snack bar for some visine drops. want anything? -
we'll all watch movies by staring at Indiana Jone's crystal alien skull - and the movie experience beamed into your brain will be so real, that you'll turn into a haggard retard.

That and Innerspace! Tron is finally getting a sequel, so 1 out of 3 ain't bad. Plus Gemlins had a sequel (and a great, if tongue-in-cheek one at that). I still think Last Starfighter could make a series. Alex's little brother, now a teenager, is called up to be the new last starfighter when Alex mysteriously goes missing and the evil Xur has returned to threaten Rylos. Hah, BSG fans don't look so pathetic now, eh? They made a series out of Stargate and that had a lot less potential.

There'll be so many fuckin' nerds in that cinema when this thing opens the smell will either be the body odour of unwashed geeks, or deodoriser pumped through the AC to combat it. At least I can put down a comic long enough to take a shower every day.
