Amy Poehler Bids Adieu On The Final SNL Of 2008!!
I am – Hercules!!
Amy Poehler, star of an upcoming Los Angeles-based NBC sitcom from the guys behind “The Office,” appears on her last SNL as a cast member tonight.
Poehler’s first SNL was the also the first SNL aired since the World Trade Center was decimated.
With her departure, the players longest with the show are Darrell Hammond (debut year: 1995), Seth Meyers (2001) and Will Forte (2002).
Tomorrow, angry virgins across the nation can launch their latest talkback catch phrase: “SNL hasn’t been funny since Amy Poehler left.”
Sketches from last week the SNL haters will deem inferior to those on “Frank TV,” “Mind of Mencia,” “MADtv” and “Chocolate News”:
Hugh Laurie host tonight's installment. Kanye West is the musical guest.
New episodes return Jan. 10.

this suck, I always like amy, hopefully she does better movies than Baby Momma.
-
Loved him doing Malkovich TO Malkovich. "No...I don't think..I sound that that...AT ALL."
-
Never realized it. Bring back the UCB show.
-
she was good
-
the female Jimmy Fallon... without the ability to do impersonations... which leaves...
-
now if they can just get forte off.
-
Notice how Poehler wasn't a part of any of those sketches? Go back to jerking off to the latest Whedon schlock you fucking little dweeb.
-
Fallon's impersonations a lot btw. Wish Hader would do more too.
-
Obviously getting laid ALL the time and loving SNL. What a full and rich life. Ah, woe to those who can't enjoy the obvious wonders of SNL, if only these poor virgins could just stay at home on Saturday night and see what they're missing, then they'd be getting as much poon as Herc here.

I guess that means that her favourite movie of 08 was TDK.
by derlanghaarige
Otherwise you would be happy that she leaves, say that she has no credibility and would post quotes from people who call her a stupid bitch and stuff like that.
-
In spite of what hacked up unfunny birdshit Mind of Mencia is it's still better than SNL.
-
You don't get it, although I'll watch a sketch or two of FrankTV Mind of Mencia (which hasn't been on in months I don't even think Comedy Central has reaired them recently) or Chocolate News, I've never said that they are better then SNL, nor to my knowledge has anyone else. MadTV yes gets some love here, but I'm not a fan, but really I don't remember the last time I went out of my way to watch SNL because it's just not the effort to watch an hour and half for 2 or 3 really good skitsand it's time for a weekend Update overhaul, yes when they decided to do the duo on the Weekend Update desk it was different, but it's time to change back to the single anchor. Sadly I don't think we'll see a WU anchor the level of a Miller or McDonald again...hell even the Nealon years were funnier then the WU has been lately, IN MY OPINONyou know what those are don't you Herc, it's something EVERYONE including you has regarding a TV show, your condesending ass, yor opinon is not superior to everyone elses
-
For the most overacting, obnoxious, unappealing attention whore on SNL is leaving!!!
-
nerds... nerds... nerds... nerds ...NERDS
-
Poehler's Hillary didn't look or sound like the real thing but was the only recurring character with any life signs the last couple years, and the only thing keeping SNL's political satire alive (besides guest player Tina Fey's contribution). Darrell Hammond is a great impressionist but John McCain and the writers didn't give him much to work with.
-
Ever since she took over update. Update hosts should keep their presence on the rest of the show to a minimum, NOT appear in just about every sketch as well as Poehler did (and Fallon, who also sucked). Seth proved he can handle it himself, hopefully they will let him.
-
Yeah, because we're all at home on Saturday night watching TV.
-
I love a thread like this. Herc makes that statement and then we can all sit back and watch the angry, bitter, dork virgins cry about it. Anybody who doesn't fit that description will see it as a joke. A joke that is too truthful though because of all the hate and whining on here for any topic. But the people who go out of their way to say shit to Herc about it are the butts of the joke and they're too damn stupid to realize it. My opinion is that Amy Poehler is pretty funny on SNL. I'd rather see her stay where she is rather than risk going through the shoddy post-SNL career that happens to far too many of the cast.
-
The only funny thing about the show anymore is Kristen Wiig.
-
Last week Herc wrote that Ms. Poehler (exclusive!! learn which former cast member ... although NBC had already been running SNL commercials promoting her that afternoon. I may be in a different time zone though.)was a former cast member. Now tonight is her last show as a regular cast member? Is her run of two consecutive shows as a cast member a record? Ignore this post 'cause i'm in a pissy mood and too lazy to delete it.
-
This is a great example of what I hate most about the talkbacks. Someone trying to distance himself from all the other dorks and virgins by pointing and laughing at them. Saying things like "I love a thread like this." The only reason to post something like that is to make sure we all know how cool you are, and that you're not a virgin at all, and the need to make that known on an anonymous message board implies a deep insecurity, likely turning into bitterness. I have no opinion on Amy Poehler.
-
Herc, I apologize - I do really enjoy reading your columns and these talkbacks. And, although I think turnover/new blood is good for the show, I liked her on Weekend Update.
-
You and the rest of the farm animals should sleep well tonight.
-
The only thing Amy Poehler offered SNL was her presence on Weekend Update. It's the only part of the night where she shines, her sketch work was utterly bland at best, and at worst, extremely irritating. When I try to think of a 'hit' Amy Poehler character, I come up blank. All I can remember are generic whiny or sassy women characters with exaggerated accents, usually nasal.
-
His Weekend Update skits were the single worst thing about Saturday Night Live in its history. Don't you remember the horrible jokes that didn't receive even a courtesy chuckle? Don't you remember how he constantly stepped on his own punch lines? Or how he misread/stuttered every third joke? Seriously, go back and watch him on E! Channel. I stopped watching it altogether the last year he did it.
-
Colin Quinn was by far worse than Nealon. Nealon was wrong for the job, that's for sure. But he also had the misfortune of following The King - Dennis Miller.
-
I'm starting to have bad dreams with Andy singing songs about his cock. Does he have another subject?
-
PATTI SMITH FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hader is consistently one of the best things about SNL. If it were not for he and the digital shorts, the whole thing would be entirely unwatchable.
-
MadTv would've made it funny
-
Don't let the door, etc.
-
You're an angry, petty human being. How about next time, you don't throw in a slam at people in the midst of a 'professional article?
-
When her new show bombs, which it will since Greg Daniels is dividing his time between two series, ensuring both will suck.
-
of the Angry Virgins.....
-
She was a talented actress/sketch comic. However the producers started overusing her and she started getting sloppy. First off was the mistake of putting her on "Weekend Update." She should have done, and was capable of doing, that bit as a modern Jane Curtin, playing it straight (which is always funnier) while reciting ridiculous fake news. Instead, she giggled and mugged through it as if she was still in rehearsal. Next, for whatever reason, probably because she was pals with Tina and Lorne, she ended up in most of the sketches. In short, the producers overworked her and stopped getting her best years ago. The only time she showed any real life was in her Hillary Clinton bit and that was probably because she HAD to stay in character. Still she's a talented actress and I wish her well. Hopefully, this will be a chance to recharge her creative batteries and get back to being a good actress.

Top that bitches
-
Is that six minutes after Carlin did his stand up? Because his shit was fucking funny.
-
I’m actually more peeved (which is different) that talkback trolls continue to insist that SNL is no longer funny, when the three clips posted above illustrate pretty dang clearly that it’s actually REALLY funny. Laugh-out-loud funny. Wiig’s funny. Samberg’s funny. Hader’s funny. Forte’s funny. Meyers is funny. Armisen’s Obama, admittedly, still isn’t getting it done (I’ve yet to see anyone do a decent Obama), but Armisen’s funny too. Piscopo’s moved on. We should as well.
-
it is no longer cutting edge
-
I don't watch SNL (being English) so I wouldn't know... If they're trolling for the sake of it, yeah - fuck em. But a fair few of them do seem to be making somewhat astute points.
-
Wigg and Hader are the best talent that show has had in years.
-
I agree that saying SNL is no longer funny is ridiculous. On a good night about a third of the show is funny. That's what Tivo was invented for. The version of the show I watch is all funny. That said, I'm overjoyed Pohler is leaving. Less to fast forward through.
-
that would be interesting.
-
His impression is solid, if unspectacular, but the writing is ALWAYS flat for him. They are afraid to dig in...maybe in time, events will lead to better Obama comedy (it is always inevitable with any president), but right now the writers are not finding sharp ways to get the impression on.
The impression is NOT one that can elevate bad material, like Hammond's Clinton can. The impression needs funny writing. With the odd cadence of Obama's speech pattern, the writing needs to be better. -

I admit I have no idea why Herc insists this show is great...
by ucb agent1
...but for the last 4 episodes or so the show has been funnier than the usual dreck. Also, the show is "funnier" than the rest of the sketch shit on TV right now, but that's not saying much. Just by watching episodes from 8 years ago on E! I can tell the show has fallen pretty far. Also, that Tiny Fey hosted episode from last spring was NOT GOOD Herc, no matter what the voices tell you. The only show that's worse than SNL on NBC right now is Heroes!
-
I bid SNL adieu a long time ago.
-
say what you will about 30 rock(i think its great) but Tina was the worst head writer the show has ever had....the show has been slowly climbing up from obscure dreck since she left.
-
I'd give anything for Horatio to come back for one last Kaitlin sketch tonight.
-
I'd have given anything to go back in time and have you NOT remind me about the Kaitlin sketches... >_<
-
know many a man is turned off by Fey's twattish personality, but come on, did you care to view that '94-'95 trainwreck of Manimal-size proportions? Hack, my name is Fred Wolf.
-
Yay.
-
The opening fell pretty flat.
-
What a wonderful goodbye for her! Plus Mya Rudolph in a terrible sketch! It's exactly as bad as it was two years ago!

Couldn't they have gotten someone like Britney Spears to host?
by thrillho77
If they were going to waste Hugh Laurie on Amy's goodbye.
-
Just like the Holidays at the Thrill-house.
-
I believe that in my original post I failed to mention anything about my sexual history. Not that it's anybody's business but I'm married with two kids. I could care less if the two twats that went out of their way to reply to me think I'm a virgin, a dork, both, or neither. This message board has destroyed all of it's credibility long ago with all of the dorks jizzing up a storm whenever something doesn't live up to their high standards. Here's how Hollywood would care what people here had to say: If you like something comment on that. If you don't like something and can express yourself like an intelligent adult, by all means, do that too. If you're a fucking moron and can't string together ten words without revealing it well you need to shut your fucking yapper. To stay on topic - I like Amy Poehler. When the inevitable best of Amy Poehler special comes out I dare you to watch it and not be suprised by how strong a run she's had on SNL. If I didn't like her I would keep my thoughts to myself. I have posted less than ten times on here because I know how it's going to end. So I invite you two little sweet hearts to kindly insert my ball sack into those flapping jaws of yours and suck me until I get a grade three hernia. That's all you're good for.
-
Her Hilary stunk, her one-legged farter made me change the channel, Kaitlin irritated me to no end, Bronx Beat stinks, and so does every other unfunny, oddly voiced character she has ever created.
She was completely wrong for Weekend Update - and even when playing a side-character in a sketch or even the straight woman to an odd situation, she couldn't help but mug for the camera. -
Let's hope she's got some legit funny in her.
-
that's fine with me.
-
Was pretty good... but this wedding sketch is blah.
-
too bad it was 5 seconds of it
-
It's way past my bedtime as it is.
-
I do really enjoy the new album. The production is good enough to make him sound good enough. Better than that same vocal alteration can sound LIVE apparently. I like the beats, I love the lyrics, and I like the consistent vision and heart he put behind it.
-
But it looks like I can watch an Astronaut Jones sketch while I wait.
-
I'm not running out to buy or steal the album if it all sounds like that... it was like Kanye doing Coldplay or something equally awful.
-
wow. Kanye is trying really hard to crazy himself into obscurity isn't he?
-
The new album is good, but Graduation was better. Someone messed up technical things, but I think he realized it and tried to save the song in the second half. They should have the "robot voice" that Blizzard man used but it wasn't there, so he was singing as if it was there, in which case he was supposed to be a little flat, but no one turned it on.
-
Did someone forget to turn on the Auto Tuner?? it sounded great at the VMAs this year. Kanye sounds terrible with just his voice.
-
I love a good pun!
-
Clearly he's not the greatest singer in the world, but the song itself is actually quite good.
-
Which also is a turn-off
-
What you said is right on the money.
-
Thank you Lorne Michaels for giving me so much money!
-
Did not expect a "McCain"
-
so they are down to making jokes about being blind? Wow. bottom of the barrel.
-
I wandering governor bit was just Debate McCain Part II. Do people outside of New York know Paterson enough to get some of that stuff? Really?!? was great.
-
costumes is NOT going to be worth it.
-
Fred Armisten looks just like him. I don't care how un-pc it may have come off, that was fucking hilarious! G-BYE AMY WE'LL MISS YOU!Who will win the battle royale of the female featured cast. Chris Elliots daughter is hot but she hasn't done any character's yet, the chubby girl may get the shaft and Nora Dunn 2.0 isn't that funny.
-
What. The. Fuck... I'm thinking Amy spent more than $50 for Circus Tickets this week.
-
Man, I can't believe the show that introduced us to Eddie Murphy now employs the fat dude from the movie Good Burger. I thought SNL would never be able to find another black guy as awful as Tim Meadows and Chris Rock but Lorne proved me wrong. To be fair to Rock he is better off doing stand-up than sketch comedy.
And while were at it, can we please find someone that can do a good Obama?! -
A couple of weeks ago. She got into a groove and it was actually pretty funny.
-
I have no clue... but I'm thinking someone thought "Hugh Laurie dressed as a giant lamp" is grounds for being fired.
-
That was what happens when the writers are on circus tickets.
-
but the show looks pretty unwatchable as I am skipping through it. I did sit through Kayne West's train wreck in its entirety and just couldn't watch any more. I'll forward through the rest later in case Hugh Laurie performs a hilarious song.
-
I adore Kristen Wiig.
-
seriously a terrible cast member
-
Or some weirdly taped sketch?
-
That's why so many commercials and no actual sketch just a short.
-
Shush.
-
Wouldn't doubt it.
-
That's all she's got. She's the new Molly Shannon.
-
What the hell was he doing there?!?!
-
And when the hell are they gonna give Chris Elliott's daughter something to do besides look good?
-
Give her a chance to look good AND have lines.
-
...Boo-Hoo Mommy, Why You Have to Die? Poor Kanye. He's obviously a nutjob, cokehead, closet case but you can tell what this song is really about. Poor guy.
-
"heartless" is not about his mom. "coldest winter" is.
-
And do the same character over and over. Like Wiig.
-
And it's a great song.
-
but that kinda pain and emotion seems like it has nothing to do with some random broad. I'm just sayin'.
-
at least this episode was (nearly) Keenan-less.
-
It was written by a different dude and performed by Kanye only. I just double-checked to be sure. I heard it was about his Ex before, which makes sense, because he DID have a nasty break-up. Whatever. I was wrong. I admit it!
-
One of the weaker eps of the season I thought. Bronx Beat and the Dinner Table were decent. Wedding Reception, Lamps, Cat Lady and Digital Short were stupid. Kanye was at least car-crash interesting. Weekend update was the best part of the show. Not Hugh's fault, just a bad crop of sketches. Where was Hader??
-
And then he's not even in it??!?! Damn!
-
What's with all the voice modulation stuff? I half expect him to put on a sequined head dress and start singing that "Do you believe in life after love" song.Burn. HEARTLESS!
-
Next you'll be saying that he didn't write Jesus Walks and that some guy who lives in Indiana wrote and recorded it first or something...
-
I'm sure he writes "most" of them.
-
i like the new album but what the fuck happened tonight?
-
like a lot of hip hop artists he just doesn't cut it as a live performer.
-
was as unwatchable as the Anne Hathaway one. Even the digital short sucked. That thing with the lamps was punishing. It's nights like this that give the show a bad name.... which is too bad since they did some great work this fall. But for the love of God, how does an ep this weak get approved past the pitch stage? Lorne Michaels has shit taste is my guess.
-
nothing else matters

Were there three sketches to prove SNL's viability this week?
by tonagan
Everyone probably just wanted to get out of there for the holidays.
-
No matter how you slice it, the current SNL just is uneven at best. Some good or even great sketches, but mostly mediocre ones.
I am not one of those SNL hasn't been good since... guys. The show has always had up and down years. This year is clearly not as low as the unwatchable Fallon/Sanz years, but it is far from the highlight years of the original cast, the All Star Cast year, and the Carvey/Hartman/Lovitz/Miller/etc. years. Those years you have pretty consistent, solid comedy at least until the second musical number. You don't get that this year. You are better off catching the highlighted sketches on NBC.com than sit through the whole episode. -
I find her very funny in the movies she has been in, but on SNL she uses her "Lady with an unusual voice inflection" as a crutch. She differentiates all her characters only by the inflections in he vocal tones. Otherwise, it is the same character in every sketch. I find it lazy writing and she could be doing so much better.
I guess that is the biggest complaint I have with most of the cast. They are talented, but the writers seem to set the bar really low with their sketches. It is almost like with Wiig they create a scene where her wacky voice lady might be funny and just tell Wiig to ham it up with no direction. -
behind everybody in the opening skit?
-
At least he's trying to do something different. That screen behind him was pretty cool. I've never seen another musician on SNL do something as neat.
-
But you know a skit is pretty bad when you start getting distracted by the extras.
-
She held the screen better than the cast members in front of her. I thought it was Tricia Helfer for a moment and then realized I don't watch Battlestar Galactica and had no idea what I was talking about...thanks for the name, rumple.
-
I like it when they do that. Why bother getting the handful of vanilla looking peeps for background stuff when they can have odd looking beardies and Conan types back there. I miss that.
PS The name Nora Dunn 2.0 is pretty funny. But I have to disagree with you and say that Michaela Watkins has the goods. You'll see. Maybe that's one of the the reasons She-Elliott hasn't been passed the ball yet. -
never has been. ever.
-
It's all predictable: Obama is taboo, Hillary Clinton is tough (but never portrayed as a boob or a bitch), blah-blah. It's all Tina Fey's legacy; never mind that the public is not at all fond of Ms. Fey (her 30 ROCK always sinks to 3rd or 4th place in the Nielsen ratings; the press tries to shove her up our asses but nobody's buying it). NBC is transforming into a UHF station that just may find a home in Mayberry (reruns of GUNSMOKE would outdraw the network's prime time garbage). Finally, SNL sucks bog time (why doesn E! insist on re-running the Will Ferrell crap? How about the pioneering episodes and anything with Phil Hartman?).
-
The show has seen better years, but you sound like a jackass with your statement.
-
According to your logic, Dancing with the Stars is a more reputable show than Pushing Daisies because more idiots watch it.
-
Because that rancid shit he spewed out last night makes me wonder if his alleged "talent" isn't manufactured.
-
I don't think I worship her but I certainly admire her. She's just out there and doesn't give a fuck about looking good. That sexy girl character with diarrhea last week is an example. It was fucking hilarious. So, I tend to like SNL cast members when they're taking risks. Granted, not all the skits she's in are funny but that can be said about any cast member present and past. It's the writers that are responsible fifty percent of the time. And Amy was great, I'll miss her.
-
Wiig has a horsey face and reminds me of that MADTV chick who does the old lady with the weird laugh. The fat chick is at most sidekick-worthy.
-
Funniest thing in the show. The voice of this generation apparently can't hold a pitch to save his life. And I loved how he skipped the high notes and let a recording hit them instead. That was the most hilarious moment of the entire show.
-
in the bedroom.
-
In my opinion, one of the worst episodes of the year. I barely laughed. The Illinois guv opener was somewhat amusing, Bronx Beat was painfully unwatchable (but my wife liked it - go figure), the passive-aggressive Xmas dinner was one-note, wedding reception was ho-hum ... other than Update (I know nothing of NY's governor, but I laughed at Armisen), what was funny? The cat-lady was snicker-inducing, I suppose. Lamps ... eesh. And Mr. Brownstone, the Anne Hathaway episode was one of the season's best! Amazing how people's tastes differ.
-
if it hadn't actually BEEN Kanye West. That was Pathetic.
-
but I saw Usher on the VS show--that guy actually has some talent, can sing AND dance.Kanye can do neither--but he IS good at running up when an award is given to someone else and having a hissy fit for all to see.I guess that's something......
-
otherwise you wouldn't be making stupid comments about his singing. You don't know what Roger and Zapp really sound like if they didn't use a vocorder. And Snoop's "Sexual Eruption" song wouldn't be the same without a vocorder either.
Obviously, there were some technical difficulties and Kanye was a soldier for continuing on. He's usually a great performer. -
SNL died completely when Norm left the show. Lost all of it's edge. Norm MacDonald or bust, and they chose the latter...Bill Hader's funny though, or Heder, however he spells it.
-
and it sure didn't make me wanna rush off and buy his album
-
I'm not saying that to be an elitist douche, but instead because I am a fearful man. I fear that Bill Hader will be sucked into a comedic black hole if his name comes too close to the awful Jon Heder's. ^_^
-
He uses a vocorder to make his voice more electronic for his new album. You wouldn't expect Roger and Zapp to sing well without it either, and those guys are very classic 80's. But please, stay ignornant.
-
because he cannot sing....electronic manipulation in the studio is not the same thing.so, he cannot sing live. he must use the vocorder in the studio. so he SHOULD NOT sing live. I am not commenting on his manipulated studio performance that you can purchase on his cd, I am commenting on his LIVE PERFORMANCE which was shit. Saying his manipulated studio performances are great is really not defending his live performance like you seem to think--in fact, it is more of an indictment of his live performance... "Indictment"--look it up. It might make a good title for a Kanye West Live album.
-

Kanye sang? I was too busy being mesmerized by that video screen
by vegas
Seriously, regardless of his singing, the song was good, and that stage was brilliant. Very minimalist, very elegant, and yet you can do anything with it. I wonder if Willie Williams (designer of ZooTV) was behind that, because if not, he's got a serious rival now.
-
...you're saying that because he uses a vocorder, then it's OK that he can't sing worth shit? And nobody is mentioning what I noted earlier about him bailing on the high notes and letting a recording hit them for him. If you enjoy that crap, good for you. But Kanye West is to music what the prequels are to "Star Wars"--a pale imitation of the real thing that may have some entertainment value, but not as much as the hype would have you believe.
-
First, It's spelled VOCODER. I know because I have one.
Second, that's not what he's using. (nether was
Roger Troutman in Zapp, that was a "Talkbox";
a plastic tube that comes out of a speaker/driver, and goes in your mouth. Also, Troutman was a real, topnotch musician. West is using a pitch corrector, which is normally used to make vocals more in tune, but if set on a "rough" level, gives a more electronic effect. West is a no talent. over-hyped boob, but I can't believe how kids today are dumb enough to buy into his idiotic hype. Listen to people who can really sing or play properly, not frauds like West or Puffy. -
Raise your standards man.
The first sketch had a laugh from the shear oddity of it, but watch it again and see if you get anything... erm... no.
The 2nd was Samberg retreading "dick in a box".
I'll give you that 3rd was funny. This character is getting old though... SNL never knows when to let a character sit on the sidelines for awhile so that he/she doesn't get over used.
I do think that SNL has some of the funny still in it... it's just few and far between. The sad part is I see that most people on SNL *CAN* be funny. Tracie Morgan is a perfect example. I thought he was terrible SNL, but he's had some laugh out loud moments on 30 Rock. -
The gov of NY was hilarious, so the was the gov from IL. The rest of the show had some laughs but meh on the rest.
-
so I'll try to spell it out. His live performance sucked because of some stupid malfunction with the vocoder or whatever the fuck it is. And it does matter because that's the style of the song he's performing. Check out his other live performances, you can see he was having tech problems on SNL and he kept on going regardless. I don't expect his next album to be the same way, he'll go back to more rap, less voice manipulation.
-
The only funny thing I can think of from that episode was Samberg as Wahlberg.
-
BECAUSE the electronic gear that makes it seem like he can sing malfunctioned. We are saying the same thing! You just think his gear malfunctioning is a good excuse for lack of talent. We think needing the gear means lack of talent, and his suckage when without proves the point.
-
The bottom line is, a real musician can perform in the woods with no electricity. Could
Kanye West? Or Puffy? Nope. I'm black, and I hate both those guys.
-

2008 is the year of the Auto Tune... oh and you guys are crouchy
by taylor2
SNL has been, by and large, much better this year than any in the past decade. I actually look forward to watching it rather than scared to push play on the DVR.
With the exception of the Michael Phelps, Ellen Page and Ben Affleck episodes, they've actually been funny. Sure they still do a flat or mediocre sketch here and there but at least they're not dreadfully unfunny.
Wiig is showing to be a little narrow in scope. She's brilliant at that quiet awkward woman thing but most of what she seems to do is some variation on that idea.
Casey Wilson is doing well on the show... she's certainly used a lot, which is usually rare for the featured players, but she more or less is playing the straight person most of the time.
Poehler has been great. I dunno what so some peoples problem with her is. Though I would agree her strongest suit is WE. But I can't say I've seen her do any annoying characters. Bronx talk is brilliant satire, though not exactly knee slapping funny. I dunno if you guys are expecting Chappelle every week or what, but again, considering the past decade, this year is a shining beacon of hope that SNL may finally be getting it... for the longest time they would run a sketch twice as long as it should be and that had to be the source of a lot of the groans... the slapstick phsyical crap... now they seem to be ending it on the bleeding edge with some actual ideas.
The Digital Shorts are usually highlights. Mostly due to the Lonely Island boys (Samberg). They show someone our age is doing the thinking rather than leaving it up to Lorne, who has always been a mixed bag for successful comedy.
And Kanye uses something called an "AutoTune". Every other bloody hip-hop album this year is using autotune. It's brutal and I think it's pointing out how bad of a singer Kanye is rather than if he just belted it out on his own. Ultimately I think his sound guy probably screwed him here as it seemed to be turned down a fair bit to the point where it sounded like it was trying to help him sing, but the desired effect is more the lines of what T-Pain does.
Oh and Hugh Laurie.. I don't watch House, but that guy was great. His pieces for the wedding sketch were brilliant. Pointless sketch, but his delivery was great. -
That is all.

this gets confusinger and confusinger

while it'd be ridiculous to say that there is nothing funny on SNL (because there are some very talented comedians still with the show)it is very acurate to say that the show just doesnt have the same kind of charm that it did roughly 10 years ago. In those times, up until when Tim Meadows left, you really loved the characters that graced the show. Now it's all pretty standard except for a few gems mixed in. And not enough Smigel!!!
