New York & LA finally get their shot at TIMECRIMES this weekend!

Published at:  Dec 12, 2008 10:34:30 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here - having returned from the pre-BNAT party - it was incredibly cool. Very very cool. A little overwhelming - but I came home to the news that today in NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES you have a film opening this weekend that everyone associated with AICN - and everyone that has seen has loved. Nacho Vigalondo's TIMECRIMES.

I don't recommend the trailer - it's a classic case of TOO MUCH INFORMATION. It isn't that it spoils the entire film, it's just a trailer that if you had seen the film, you'd be pissed by what they do give away in the trailer. The fact is - all they had to say was, "How many times would you travel back in time, just to save your wife? How far would you be willing to go? What wouldn't you do? And Why Is Someone Trying To Get You?

This film is the tightest, smartest, simplest - yet delightfully convoluted TIME TRAVEL science fiction tale that I've ever seen. It is the debut film from a BRILLIANT new filmmaker who you will know all about over the next few years, but here you folks in LA and NY... You have a chance to get in on the ground floor. If you do - please consider writing in to AICN on the film. This is a title that we can't get enough on and I can't wait to hear what all of you think of it!

I was totally pissed when I missed it by a day at the AFI film festival last month. Got stuck watching Defiance instead...

Saw the trailer before Slumdog in Denver

    by jimmay

Maybe the trailer just doesn't sell it well, but it looked fairly silly.

Yes, but is it as awesome as Primer?

    by johnny smith

Primer is, in my opinion, the best time travel movie since George Pal's Time Machine adaptation.

I hate time travel and even I liked it

    by greenleaf1

It's smart and enjoyable, and the pink bandaged man is one of the creepiest things I've seen at the movies this year.

    Better than Primer...

    by gwai lo

The time travel plot is just as smart, but it's presented in a way that's easier to follow. The trailer truly doesn't do the film justice, and it spoils way too many plot points.

When does it open outside New York?

    by bungion boy

I actually live in New York but I'm working in Northern California on a job right now. I was at Fantastic Fest '08, met Nacho, saw his shorts, and suddenly he became one of the most exciting new directors that i was aware of. I'm dying to see Timecrimes but I worry it will be out of New York by the time I get back, and not open near me in California before I leave! When and how can i see this film and when will it be released on dvd... along with Nacho's shorts maybe?

DOes it turn out that HE is the guy with bandages

    by industrykiller!

who stabs himself? I honestly havent seen it or know anyone who did so I dont know. But if that is the case then I really dont care to. Even if the execution is great I dont care to be let down by an anti climactic ending. I fucking HATE that. I honestly want to know before I see this if thats the case.

    Great movie!

    by bobbofatz

I went forward in time and even Ebert gave it a stroked thumb up. Primer was better though.

Great Double Feature at Sunset 5

    by psychedelic

Saw Timecrimes at Fantastic Fest '07 and it really is a cool movie. It's playing at the Sunset 5 in L.A. as well as Let The Right One In. I plan on doing a double feature to see both these cool movies again. Nacho is awesome!

    Better than Primer, for sure...

    by cifra

Time Crimes is not a masterpiece but not that far from that. Curiously enough, I wouldn't mind an american remake, which have been buzzed as one of Tom Cruise's next projects. Just give it to a director with vision, from Danny Boyle to Tarantino or even John Carpenter. By the way, should I send a review of this and Dead Set? No review about Dead Set, I'm totally disappointed.

I'd like to see this but I don't reside in either NYC or LA.

    by thebearovingian

But hey, if the damn movie has been out for a year or more it'd only be fair to finally get the chance to see it -- in a theater or torrent near me.

This has to be one of those movies...

    by -guyinthebackrow

... made by a friend/s of the staff of AICN, because it is NOT brilliant, it is NOT good. It's boring and a waste of an hour and a half. It's NOT scarey. It is lacking in plot, editing, camerawork, and direction. It's not terrible, it's just boring, and even a little dumb.
