Earlier this week, we heard strong indications that Chris Weitz (THE GOLDEN COMPASS, ABOUT A BOY) would replace Catherine Hardwicke as director of NEW MOON - the TWILIGHT sequel that's currently ramping up production. Entertainment Weekly says he's just about to be hired for the job.

Sources tell EW.com that Summit Entertainment is about to hire Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) as the shepherd for New Moon, the second installment of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series

...indicates the update, which can be found HERE. Considering the solidity of earlier rumors re: Weitz's involvement, this news is more of a confirmation than anything else. I wasn't a fan of GOLDEN COMPASS, but there was some nice design work in the film & some respectable moments of visual wonder/awe - qualities that would only benefit NEW MOON I should think.
