More GODZILLA 2000 MILLENIUM Madness!

Published at:  Jul 11, 1999 11:00:24 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest on the GODZILLA 2000 MILLENIUM movie! Ol Aaron over at Monsterzero.org is keeping us informed as to the progress of scoop on the big green fire breathing giant lizard. Personally I'm hoping, against hope, that this film actually gets at least a limited THEATRICAL distribution here in the United States, cause... man... it's been Toooooooo long since I've seen a NEW TOHO GODZILLA film on a big screen. Maybe, not since GODZILLA VS MEGALON! Sigh... that's too long!

Hey Harry, thanks for he heads up a while back with the Godzilla 2000
images at my website. Thought the rubber suit fans might want to know
that Toho showed the filming of a SFX scene live online this weekend.
They unveiled the actual suit online. I have screen captures in the
News section at www.monsterzero.org/index2.html Also, for the first
time in G's history he's actually green! Guess those poster and toy
makers over the decades were prophetic in their certainty he was green
rather than the gray or black he actually was :-) Take care.

Aaron

    by tall_boy

You think this Godzilla will really have such snappy (and not to mention tasty) product tie ins as and a catch prase as snappy as: "Here Leezard Leezard Leezard"? I think not. . .PS- wasn't the Japanesse Godzilla killed off about 2 years ago? I wonder how they reacted to the American version anyway?

    by gary2012

Yes, very cool. I just hope this Talkback shows some sense of humor, unlike that last Godzilla talkback when a couple of maroons actually thought that some guy was serious when he acted like he thought that the USA crap Godzilla was the original. How gullible are some people?

WHOO HOO! Let the destruction begin!!!!!!!

    by flint2

First I saw the new design on the poster (before the suit itself was shown)and was blown away. Then I saw the shots of the suit itself and was blown away. Now I that I see this shot yet again I am blown away. This poster makes the new Godzilla look even cooler somehow. I love the direction TOHO took with the design. It's just the right mix of the old 1954 Godzilla and some of the new that we saw in the Heisei series. Looks like the Gamera movies had the right influence on TOHO. I hope the new Godzilla movies really are darker like G 1954 or Destroyah or Gamera 3. The new back fins are great too. Down with the U.S. Deanzilla! Long live the real King of the Monsters, Godzilla! Ladies and gentlemen: LET THE MAYHEM AND DESTRUCTION BEGIN!!!!!!!!

South Park is Evil ! !

    by doc_valor

    Oh, er, sorry...wrong thread! :)

Seriously, I'm really looking forward to Toho's new Godzilla movie. We've been without an original Godzilla movie for too long and I really hope this one makes it's way to Australian cinemas.
I didn't really care for the 1997's remake Godzilla movie at all. It took all the essence of Godzilla (Rubber suits, Toy special effects, dialogue that doesn't match speech) and threw it all out the window!
And by damn, I miss that laser that comes out out his mouth!
In any case, I'm really looking forward to this movie!

    Big G 2000

    by the great one

I think this will be a kick butt film. I was greatly impressed the last movie Godzilla vs. Destroyer which I thought was one of the ten best sci-fi films of the decade. BTW, for the pesron who asked if Godzilla died a couple years back, that's correct. However, in the aftermath, junior (also known as Minya) grew up, absorbed a lot of free floating radiaton, and became the new Godzilla. Hopefully, he'll have some pretty cool adventures too. Somebody mentioned an American version in which he became a computer generated wussy iguana surrounded by mindless idiots, but I refuse to acknowledge this possibility...

    The REAL G

    by dedboy

Thank God! Toho's finally making amends for that Hollywood travesty. I hope Devlin & Emmerich are taking notes, especially if they want to do a sequel(let's hope they don't). It was one thing to change G's look, but to change his whole persona? Jeez, the REAL Godzilla never would've run away from missles & such. Hollywood turned Japan's biggest export/icon into a pussy. How do you think Hollywood would like it if the Japanese made Superman vulnerable to modern weapons? Or turned Mickey Mouse into an asexual degenerate? Go Toho! It's about time...

A few notes on Godzill 2000, etc

    by kaijukiller

Just a few comments, this new film is not about Godzilla Jr. Its the first part of a trilogy that ignores the recent 90's films. Its a direct sequel to the 1954 & perhaps the 1984 film.

Just goto the monsterzero.org/index2.html site and check the G2000 and News sections, everything about the movie is there

Someone also mentioned the 1993 Mecha G movie, its being released on tape August 3 along with the newer Mothra 1 & 2 films. In EP though I believe :-( Of course I've always bought fan made copies which are SP, letterboxed, and subtitled, so I've seen all the recent films in the last few years that way. Check out godzillatoy.com if anyone is interested.

    by tall_boy

With MechaStresanda vs. Leonard Maltin thrown into the mix! Now I'd pay to see that (right after the Yo Querio Taco Bell dog shows up and offers me tasty tie-ins). Fuck "Go Go Godzilla", "Bar-booh-rah, Bar-booh-rah" is the Best Monster song ever!

A restatement of my previous message

    by humonguloust

Hello. I go by the name "Humongulous" and I would like to express my opinion that Godzilla was invented by American filmmakers two years ago and that there are no earlier Japanese versions of said monster, etc. etc. If you read the previous talkback you may be familiar with my position and the appropriate recourse. Please feel free to respond with information and trivia as a rebuttal to my post. You may also wish to insult me for holding what is so obviously an erroneous viewpoint. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    by anakin78z

So what is it I hear about Sony wanting to make a kid friendly version of Godzilla to appeal to a wider audience??? Are they for real? Either way, I think that some cool theaters (the same ones that show those cool manga movies) will show G 2000 subtitled.

    by bv

I'm sorry folks, but you just can't make a guy in a rubber suit look real. Japan's got a lot of catching up to do in their FX department. BARF-O!!! Granted the new look is cool, but for God's sake, what is it with all the power-ranger-bad-guy-rubber-suit-monsters in Japan? It worked 50 years ago, but not in this day and age. Get a clue TOHO. To hell with tradition, give me CGI!

    by bv

Emmerich and Devlin's Godzilla would beat the absolute shit out of the Japanese dumpy-saurus in a crossover. Although G looks cooler, he still looks like one of the friggin' weeble people. Tinka-tinka-tink! And does anyone know who's supplying the cherry-bombs for the little missile explosions in this movie? Oh boy, oh boy, i hope the Green-Ranger's in this one!!!

    by lollepop

Why do people kepp complaing about the japaneese godzilla? "The rubbersuit looks funny, the american one is much cooler"
"They have to move on... " And so on. Take a look at "Louis and Clark" I doubt that anyone thinks that supermans costume really is cool, actually he looks silly. The fx are not exactly amazing, nor are the actors the coolest ones ever seen. Even so, a lot of people think it is fun to watch.
It is the same thing with Godzilla.

    by bv

I gotta give that to you, LollePop. G-flicks are fun to watch. I'll probably see this one. I just get pissed off when people think that a rubber suit is a better visual effect than CGI. The proper movement just isn't there. I just can't take a sweaty japanese guy in foam-latex suit seriously.

    by kaijukiller

Japanese sci--fi cinema and the way films are made in Japan. Obviously you have no care for movies outside western culture and can't get away from Hollywood's idea of a good movie. Must be sad to be so blind.

    G 98 vs. real G. LOL

    by flint2

OK BV, we get what you have to say about people hating CGI. But to say that the U.S. G could even start to beat up the real Godzilla is laughably illogical. Let's see here. The U.S. G managed to: scrape some buildings with its tail, make big footprints in the street, blow over a couple of cars by farting out of its throat, fell on his sorry ass causing some very minor mayhem, ran through a building and ruined it but STILL didn't knock it over, and was quickly killed off by some measly missles at the end of the flick. Yes CGI can a very good thing. But look what happens with it when it's put into the wrong hands (Devlin, Emmerich). The real Godzilla: massively cool radioactive fire beam, brute strength and invincibility to conventional military weapons including *missles*, and destroys entire cities while fending off equally powerful monster foes at the same time in just about every TOHO flick. The TOHO Godzilla wins. The TOHO Godzilla flicks are tons of fun to watch. If you've seen any of the ones from 1989-1995 they actually do use some CGI in some spots to simulate G's fire beam, ect. This mixed with the suited Godzilla creates a unique and fun look. I think you are focusing way too much on the Godzilla movies of the 1970s, which while still fun, were over the edge cheesy at times. The changes TOHO is making with the new Godzilla design are the right amount of change. Imagine if Emmerich and Devlin had been smart, kept a design very similar to the new G 2000 suit (which has just the right amount of the old design and new elements that could please any Japanese or American monster fan), and totally animated a Godzilla very similar to the G 2000 design with CGI and CGI mass destruction of an entire city. Now that would be some CGI put to good use. It sure beats some lame Jurassic Park/Aliens clone lookalike creature that can barely run without falling over on top of itself.

    I agree with Flint2 ^_^

    by gamera2000

Yes, I belive TOHO took the hint from the most recent Gamera films and will actually succeed, and as
for the CGI (denzilla) version in '98, fuhgetabout it. This is the
    undisputed King of the Monsters.
But some people are saying "Did'nt
G die in '96, and Junior absorbed his energies?" Yes, and no. This
NEW G will totally ignore all previous films and follow in the
footprints (pardon the pun) of G
'54 and '84...please folks do your
homework first and if you wanna debate, please do so in a FLAME-WAR room, not here. Besides,
these movies are all fun and fantasy...how would you react if a
382 foot tall radioactive, fire-breathing monster
just showed up and started wiping out cities across the world, with
NO WAY of stopping it? Everybody
would FREAK the hell out!!! End of story...please don't judge this movie by heirsay, wait until you see it for yourself first...then
judge away. You wound'nt be a fan if you we're not here....hahaha...
