FAST & FURIOUS, THE WOLFMAN, And NOTTINGHAM Change Release Dates!!
Merrick here...
We don't usually address changes of release dates on AICN (not sure why, just usually doesn't happen). But , in this instance, multiple high-profile titles...all of which have been covered extensively here on the site...have shifted release dates & we thought you might wanna know.
Universal Pictures has pushed back the release of horror franchise hopeful "The Wolfman" from April 3 to Nov. 6 and taken Ridley Scott's "Nottingham" out of 2009 entirely. Also, U's "The Fast and the Furious 4" will now open on April 3, instead of June 12.
"Nottingham," toplining Russell Crowe, will open in 2010, but U did not set a specific date.
...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.
Interesting that Variety refers to THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS 4 by that title; last I heard it was FAST AND FURIOUS (per the film's trailer HERE, and the movie's official website HERE). Wonder if it was just presumption/shorthand, or if there's been a change?
The release date of Will Ferrell's LAND OF THE LOST remains uncganged (it's June 5).
"Nottingham," toplining Russell Crowe, will open in 2010, but U did not set a specific date.

It looks like some confidence if they're moving it to the holiday season.
-

Well, I think period movies always fit better into the...

...x-mas season, than into the summer, so The Wolfman could do better on its new release date. But DAMMIT! 6 months longer waiting for the Wolfman? If this movie sucks, I'm seriously gonna kick some ass!
-
like three years ago - or is my memory off? I wonder what the problem is.
-
Smart move, suits.
-
They haven't even got a script together yet let alone started shooting.
Fast and furious being released earlier is probably to try and avoid competing with the big summer flicks like Transformers etc -
My theory is - and please note that it's just a theory that can be disproved as soon as we see the first trailer - that Universal tries to sell The Wolfman as a "serious" horrormovie and not as Halloween fun.
-
if joe johnston is still working on wolfman, then that means he's not gonna be able to start captain america as soon as we all thought..will that movie be delayed too or find a new director
-
The Sheriff AND Robin in some kind of crazy twist?? Maybe they should just axe it altogether. I mean, how many Robin Hood adaptations can we endure? The BBC Robin Hood series is still running FFS.
-
I was very much against this franchise for 2 and 3 (never wasted time to see Tokyo Drift) but this trailer actually made part 4 look really interesting. I think this role is the only one of Diesel's that I actually buy. He's been pretty unappealing in everything else (although i've been meaning to see his Lumet flick for a long time)
-
It's like horse racing but with motherfucking WEREWOLVES. AROOOOOOO!!!!!
-
But not in Nottingham. And yeah, why the hell ISN'T Wolfman coming out before Halloween? Oh Christ, are they afraid of another SAW? I certainly am.
-
I said it then, and I'll say it again: this idea still SUCKS. I had high hopes when it was Crowe playing a good guy Sheriff and Christian "I'm in Every Single Movie" Bale playing bad guy Robin.
-
I would watch that movie.
-
or something.Honestly, 4 Fast 4 Furious is pretty high on my anticipation list for next year. I never got why they were putting it out in the summer, I figured competition was low becuz there were just no big sequels or comic book movies and they would try to hit an empty summer and take a bigger share of the tickets than they would get against Iron Man 2 or a new James Bond movie or something. But this earlier release date makes more sense for the type of movie it is.
-
The first two both excelled in the summer. Wonder why they suddenly think it won't play there.
-
or Wolfman. But I have more interest in Nottingham. And F&F? that April release puts it all of 1 week before Dragonball - which could be good or bad for F&F.
Ah well. Just means I have longer to save for the summer season (Wolverine, TF2, HP, others) -
was the working title of the new 'Fast and the Furious' movie. Also, it was the original name of the band that played in Animal House. I'd like to give a shout out to turketron for this post.

Wolfman looks like Blue-ray rental to me. No a regular rental..

is this some wierd uncle/gangbang mashup? If so I'm listening.
-
Both the Sherrif and Robin Hood are going to be good guys. In the movie they are the same character, not just the same actor. The Sheriff, fed up with the corruption that he is a party to with Prince John, decides to do something about it with an alter ego i.e. Robin Hood. Sounds like an interesting take to me.
-
It means they believe it can hold its own against the big fall/holiday movies. The Wolfman script was a balls-out good time. If they shot that script, this will be one great film. they might even have awards in mind, releasing it so late in the year ...
-
I wonder if they'll use the fat Crowe twin to play the Sheriff and the thin Crowe twin to play Robin Hood?
-
I'll have to sit on my hands until then. Now, if they ncan just get The Creature from the Black Lagoon going....
-
Just a thought: THE WOLFMAN seems to have a similar baroque/bloody romance vibe to BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, which was released earlier in November, too. Maybe the suits are hoping for the same kind of performance?
-
Where did you get the script from? I googled and googled, but all I found was a script review from a wannabe-clown who inserted lots of unfunny stories about his dog into the review. I would love to get my hands on this!
-
Just like 75% of Scott's other films.
-
I'm kinda pissed...
-
"Is Crowe still playing both Sheriff and Robin?"
You have to be SHITTING me... really?
-
Take a look at the old ITV Robin of Sherwood series from the 80's. If I recall correctly, it had great atmosphere for a TV show and was one of the better retellings of the RH legend.
-
Apparently it's still in development somewhat?
-
They should have gone serious and done a really good epic adventure movie. Instead they are making it into a comedy with my least favorite comedic actor. Terrible.
-
The King Raven Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead: "Hood", "Scarlet", and "Tuck". FANTASTIC reading. If PJ adapted these books to film he would have his next LOTR.
-
I mean I never saw it, had no interest, but I thought I remember that pretty much being the title. Or even with "The" in there, but still, just taking those out and calling this a different title is dumb.
-
There was a rumor going around a while back that had Crowe's Sheriff of Nottingham creating the character Robin Hood and masquerading as him to effect political change or some sort. Needless to say that the idea was met with an alarming amount of criticism on this site.
-
I work in the industry - I can say "it's great, I loved it" or "it sucked, I hated it" but I can't say much else. Sorry. This one was a definite loved it, and I am a big-time horror hound. It's got a strong enough story - but even better, a few scenes of unbelievable carnage. Like I said: if they shot the script I read, it's going to be awesome. I'm only worried that they might try to tone down the violence if they think it's a "prestige picture." Let's all hope NOT.
-
The Fast & The Furious was the name of the first, so I kind of agree with you.
-
Gosh I can't see why anyone would find that revisionist notion as off putting.
-
it's been all over there for eons.
-
Word: Uncganged |ˌənˈch ärjd|
adjective
Meaning: Bad idea, Stupid, bomb at box office -
Best word since "cockin'"
-
is because there simply isn't time to make the movie before the end of next year. Unless I heard wrong, I don't think they're even filming yet. For a movie like that to come out in 2009 would be pushing it even if they started filming it today.

They've put Nottingham on hold until Crowe isn't fat anymore...
by the grug
That's what my sources tell me.
-
Are all the "columnists" in primary school?
"The release date of Will Ferrell's LAND OF THE LOST remains uncganged (it's June 5)." - What does "uncganged" even mean? Does nobody on this site proof read anything? Everyday I read this site and everyday I find spelling mistakes. Surely someone cares enough about what they are doing to take the time to fix it.
Life your game AICN. -
But who cares when AVATAR is fucking our eyeballs in 2009?
-
one of revisionism, with Robin Hood as the bad guy, I'm out. It's bullshit. What's next Lex Luther's the hero, Superman the alien invader (well that's what Lex thinks, but that's another story...). ugh.
-
column news. lest78 has a point there. There's no spell check bashing out the rants in these lil' boxes, but surely, you have one for AICN postings (Word Press, whatever?)
-
Brian Grazer said Nottingham had the sheriff dying in a battle and Robin Hood takes his place. I don't see how that makes any sense, I suspect he has it backwards, but that's what he said. (Maybe in this version it's the SHERIFF who wears a mask, NOT Robin Hood! That would blow our fuckin minds)
-
I don't expect much from Wolfman.
-
is the writers for AICN, refusing to use a spell check before posting articles.
-
He's not The Punisher and if anything else is done right, they can sure make it PG 13.
And no, I won't go to the imdb boards for the script and I doubt that they know anything about it over there. AICN Talkbacks can be lots of fun and even informative. IMDB...well...it's the evil fucking bastard room minus the fun factor. Just a bunch of douchebags, -
Ever read "Wicked"? That damn book had me near tears when Dorothy drenched the Witch in the end. Nottingham could be awesome if done right.
