WATCHMEN Footage From Comic Con '08 Finally Available On iTunes!

Published at:  Dec 09, 2008 5:16:14 PM CST

Beaks here...

I'm kinda shocked this WATCHMEN footage is just now turning up online, but it's no less impressive five months after its San Diego Comic Con debut. I'm pretty sure you've seen an assemblage similar to this already, but there are a few shots in there that might be new. If not, feel free to lambaste me in the below talk back.

To check out this beautiful, Philip Glass-scored montage, look up "WATCHMEN" on iTunes or click here.

The Watchmen, biggest movie of 09?

    by dancingforever

While i think a solid argument could be made that Watchmen will be the best movie of 09, I have doubts the general public will embrace it. It doesn't have a name character like Batman or a wonderful story like Twilight to be successful with all. Perhaps this doesn't matter but I was rooting for this movie to be huge. Adding to that the huge change that has been made to the end of the story that seems to be dividing the core fans, it might have a run like Darkman or somewhat less. Sad to think what could have been. This is the kind of movie I would like to see more of but it might mark the end of adult fantasy in the comic genre.

I like that more than the recent trailer...

    by seanny_d

...but I think a lot of us nerds have to stop pretending that we have a monopoly on quality. Every talkback I read something from someone who is talking about how the general public won't "get it". A good story is a good story. And Watchmen is a good story. Whether or not it's successful remains to be seen and only deconstructed after we can put it into context. I'm hoping it's successful, because I love the story. And on top of that, I hope the movie does justice to the book, which I think it will. But to make the judgment that it will or won't do well based upon that limited judgment I think is a little unfair. It may turn out that the argument is valid, I suppose, but for now I think it comes across as a little pretentious.

    No Interest

    by -halfscan-

The day Zach confirmed "no squid" was the day I lost all interest in this project. 2009/2010 was looking to be a steller time for geek-fair (Watchmen, Akira, Robotech & then some).. but the news the last few months on these projects has been so incredibly disappointing. Hopefully Mendes can get Preacher right or every property I've given a damn about will have been ruined.

This is censored from the Comic-Con version...

    by rindain

Comic-Con version showed Manhattan exploding people with blood and bits of flesh, plus it had more of the Silk Spectre / Night Owl sex scene. I guess they had to make an all-ages version for iTunes.

yeah this did differ from the comic con footage

    by fofo

Some scenes were different in this one, like the earrings being thrown in the beginning wasn' in there before. And the Dr Manhattan transformation was cut way too short, along with other scenes cut short getting rid of the violence. Maybe someone besides itunes will put out the actual comic con version.

    Squid Spoilers?

    by vote fa stokes brutha

I love how that the missing squid become such common knowledge that people just talk about it all over the internet. I tried to avoid spoilers and didn't look at any Watchmen stuff, but it's still somehow seeped into my internet subconscious. I'm anxious to see how the climax works without it! This preview has given me more hope, as it looks more like- you know, a REAL MOVIE rather than the glorified music video/PS3 cut scene that was 300. Snyder has a ton of potential, but thus far he's just talked about how internet savvy he is and how much he and Gerry Butler benchpressed.

I think we'll have a movie that LOOKS a lot like the comic we all love, but will not capture the bigger ideas that made it that comic we all love. Here's hopin' though.

That looks beautiful, BUT is Snyder competent

    by reflecto

We still don't know that from films like the Dawn remake (merely passable) and 300 (static, abstract machismo).

If "Watchmen" works, I suspect it will not be a monster hit, but rather, judging by its look, a "Dick Tracy"-esque cult gem...and yes, I loved "Dick Tracy," but it was out of its place and time (like "Speed Racer") and I think this will be too. IF it's good.

    by sparhawk38

How can you not be in freaking heaven over this movie?! I know that the slow-mo punching and action is starting to draw attention to itself, but I can't help it, I like it better than the jerky action in movies like QOS and TDK...ESPECIALLY if it fits with the tone of the movie. Maybe that is the better comment. I think the music and the tone of the trailers seems to suggest that the style of the action really fits. I just can not wait for this movie. I hope it is as good as it seems to be!

"i still dont get the hate for 300...it looked exactly like the comic" - - - Yeah, I'm one of those dingledangles that thinks movies should be movies, not interactive comic books... Not trying to be condescending. I don't like Sin City, either, so at least I'm an equal opportunist. I would have loved Dave Gibbons to direct this film, since the book is already brilliantly laid out, but since that's not happening, I would expect Snyder to use the cinematic language to give a new perspective on the material (outside of just adding cool music).

the Glass music is good until...

    by rocklobster800

it shifts when we see Dan and Laurie killing with the nuclear explosion-the music goes to shit after that in my opinion. Maybe its just becuase I dont like Philip Glass in general (everytime I hear his name I hear "how like a turtle the sun looks" with out fail), but at that point it just gets too overwrought...the first few minutes are excellent though, and the Smashing Pumpkins track on the other footage was great too. I hope they keep their promise of emulating the soundtrack to Blade Runner and Manhunter for the finished score-seriously folks, go to youtube, type in Manhunter Grahams theme and you'll get how perfect it would be for the to this flick soundtrack!

between making a film uniquely cinematic and changing a screenplay. I'm just saying Snyder using the comic as a strict storyboard guide tells me more about Frank Miller's job as a director than Snyder's.
