Monday Brings BOSTON LEGAL’s Big Two-Hour Series Finale!! Denny Crane!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
“Boston Legal” finishes up its five-season run right at the 100-episode mark tonight.
Denny is charged with breaking and entering and sexual assault.
Everybody is fired.
Cardboard cut-outs of all nine Supreme Court justices are employed.
William Shatner took home his first Emmy for playing Denny Crane on “The Practice,” then took home another for playing the same character on “Boston Legal.”
James Spader won three Emmys for playing Alan Shore, once for “The Practice” and twice on “Legal.
The two actors were each nominated four times for those roles.
David E. Kelley, a key creative force on “L.A. Law” before he went on to create “Ally McBeal,” “The Practice” and “Boston Legal” (all of which exist in the “Picket Fences” universe, which once dispatched Wisconsin attorney Douglas Wambaugh to argue before the Supreme Court) will be back next year with yet another legal drama, this one about a father-daughter attorney team.
Congratulations to Julie Bowen, who managed to stick for more than two seasons while fellow hotties Rhona Mitra, Lake Bell, Monica Potter, Constance Zimmer, Saffron Burrows, only lasted about a season a piece.
9 p.m. Monday. ABC.

Can't be first?!?!?!
-
Knock it out da park!!!!!!!
-
SUCK IT.
-
Denny Crane, eh?
-
Don't talk to me about the ENVIRONMENT!
-
Alan Shore and Denny Crane are fantastic. That is all.
Denny Crane. -
the last season or two of the Pracitice...well I quit watching, and sadly most of Boston Legal (on at a time when I couldn't watch due to work), but I knew it and The Practice and Ally were all a shared "Kellyverse" what's the connection to Picket Fences though
-
Picket Fences was yet another Kelly creation, which is why it is also in the Practice/Ally McBeal/Boston Public universe.
-
Watching Shat and Spader try to out-smarm one another weekly was a ton of fun while it lasted. Hey AICN, how about checking to ensure that an entry has a subject or a title before doing your DB insert due to someone accidentally hitting enter? *facepalm*
-
At least they're ending it before it turned all Ally McShitty.Oh, and..... Denny Crane. http://tinyurl.com/5wxfq9
-
There are few network shows I enjoy these days - and thx to my mom, Boston Legal is one of them - and the dynamic between Denny & Alan was the starting point. Then I realized that a lot of "well-known", but not front-liner, stars, were part of the ensemble - and their mastery of the acting craft raised BL above many other dramas, with a healthy dose of comedy. The social commentary that Kelley interjects into all of his shows, has made me a life-long fan of his. I will be looking forward to his next tv-offering.
-
Even in his seventies, Shatner still managed to craft his second-best character ever after James T. Kirk. Here's hoping Denny gets to shoot at least one more person before he rides off into the sunset...
Oh, and lest I forget...DENNY CRANE.
-
Kelley will still have a soap box to handle his legal voice next year. Boston Legal has been SO opinionated and intelligent these last few years that it's a miracle it lasted this long! The ending "heart to hearts" between Alan and Denny literally made the show- the rest was comedy window dressing to me. But HERC better get him some glasses soon- he just called Lake Bell a "hottie"??! SHEESH! Get out more buddy!!
-
Best characters ever created for television. Ever. Thanks for four+ great years and all the laughs....

Oh, look. A Boston Legal talkback... NOW THAT THE SHOW'S OVER!!
by zerocorpse
Thanks a lot, Herc. Give us one talkback and it's the last damn episode of the show.
Of course, it goes without saying that if Joss Whedon farted on the set of this show at any point, we'd get talkbacks for the next ten years despite it being canceled.
Boston Legal was one of the best on television. Denny Crane is a character for the ages, as is Alan Shore. It also MUST hold the record for the most Trek alumni on one series.
It's still out there on DVD. I encourage people to rent them and see what the fuss was all about.
It's been a fun season, what with all the self-referential moments and in-story references to trying every time slot and having another season in them. This is a show with its tongue firmly in cheek and it's heart in the right place. I'll miss it.
But by all means, Herc, hit us with some more Knight Rider talkbacks. People LOVE that show. -
nomination slots away from BSG, acting and technical to boot.
-
In many peoples opinion, BSG didn't deserve shit. Hasn't deserved anything since the middle of season 2.
But hey, it's easier to blame Boston Legal, or the Emmy's themselves I guess. -

My feelings about most entertainment is "Not Enough Shatner". Bo
by dannyocean
always had just enough. David E. Kelley will now have to cast Adam West in his show to make up for a "Shatnerless" dramatic universe.
And then, maybe, West and Shatner can play brothers... as they were always meant to be. -
Dec 08, 2008 10:40:39 AM CST
dannyocean, Shat and West as bros! OMFG I love that idea!
by kravmaguffin
Now all we need is Frank Stallone and Don Swayze.
-
Dannyocean is all kinds of genius today.
-
You are either a girl or a FLAMING HOMOSEXUAL,spank, if you do not think Lake Bell is hot. She has quite possibly the PERFECT body.
Denny Crane.
-
and david e kelly needs to either take the bar or make a show about something else.
-
if I had figured out how many characters were allowed in the subject line.
(Which was supposed to read after the period "Boston Legal, meanwhile,")
I remember an episode of BL where Crane and Shore went to try a case in LA and worked out of their California branch office. And, in the West Coast office, there is the Denny Crane equivalent, played by Robert Wagner.
Who, as much as I like Robert Wagner, is no Adam West.
Halting speech pattern- check. Sixties swagger- check.
Cult Genre status- check.
The only thing West doesn't have that Shatner has, is theatre training. But West loves hearing himself say lines as much as Shatner does.
The only person would come as close would Robert Culp and I don't think you could fit both Culp and Shatner's ego's in the same room.
Whereas West always seemed to be a little more accomodating.
After all, he worked with Frank Gorshin and Tallulah Bankhead. -
Every time I look at her, I expect a pail of oats to be dangling under those choppers of hers.
-
but got worn down by the excessive quirkiness (for the sake of being quirky) and preachiness, not to mention the mercurial makeup of the cast (here one episode, gone the next with little or no explanation). Last season's Supreme Court episode almost made me stop watching the show. If I hadn't known this season was the last one I might not have watched it. I figured I could stick it out one more season. Will I miss it when it is gone? Yes, to some degree. I will miss what the show was in its first couple of seasons - unique and fun. I will miss what once was, for me, the funniest show on television. However, the last couple of seasons, which I have found to be a pale shadow of its former self, will make it easier for me to accept this show's demise. I won't miss it as much now because I haven't been enjoying it as much. Still, despite my negative comments, I can't deny what an incredibly talented cast this show had, as well as its guest-stars. All in all, I'd much rather have a dozen Season-5 Boston Legals on the air than even one more episode of dancing D-listers or desperate attention whores "looking for love".
-
Sorry for the double post. I was hoping Alan and Denny would get married before the end of the series. They are perfect for each other.
-
Funny, quirky, and rarely insulting to the intelligent mind. I'll really miss this show!
Denny Crane.
End of line. -
SHANE. :(
-
what we TOS fans knew all along. That the Shat ego on screen is totally compelling, borderline bonkers, and fun as hell to watch. Go Shat!
-
This is probably the funniest show on network TV, and has always had a good ensemble of actors. I was happy when Christian Clemonson got promoted from a recurring character to series regular; it was nice seeing him having another TV series besides Brisco County Jr.

"First name, Denny. Last name, Crane. Verdict...not guilty."
by mr. nice gaius
That's the only scene I've ever seen from this show and judging by the info above, I thought that bit of dialog would be somewhat appropriate here.Steady on.
-
...is a lot of fun. Like when you killed a bug: "Denny Crane." Or you had sex with your girlfriend: "Denny Crane". When you farted in an elevator: "Denny Crane." The doctor just put 13 acupuncture needles in your body, 4 in your legs, 8 in your back and 1 in your head: "Denny Crane." You just bought something at the supermarket: "Denny Crane."
Try it! It's fun! -
Denny Crane.
-
Too bad the series' real potential was taken down after the near perfect first season ended early due to the success of Grey's Anatomy.

Fucking hilarious show.
-
Nice to see someone, somewhere, somehow related to the industry, took notice of this show.
-
Fuck that.
-
I enjoyed tuning in to see Alan and Denny's weekly hijinks and womanizing.
-
should have their own show--about anything, doesn't matter what.

The penultimate "Heroes" was on tonight, and there's no damn talkback for it. No speculation about the season ender. No discussion about how the fuck Arthur Petrelli travelled back in time 16 years ago to steal Hiro's powers in the first place... Nothing.
Yeah, the show is mediocre, but it's still got viewers. -
Arthur took Peter's abilities, including time travel.
-
they both were on that show? damn, I missed out, last I saw, it was Lara Flynn Boyle and Camryn Manheim's earrings....
-
Seriously. WTF was that?
-
LOST marathon on SciFi... but it's the beginning few episodes of S3.
Heroes, which eternally sucks.
Boston Legal Series Finale.
To me, the answer's simple.
Denny Crane. -
They didn't really say much, then all of the sudden series finally. This is probably the best show on TV.
-
sometimes it's a big penis. What an adorable ending. Good for them.
-
I would have enjoyed to smoke one after that ending... A very wonderful ending to one of my most favorite shows.
Denny Crane, indeed... -
The only thing that got old for me with this show, this season especially, is the constant "real life interjection"... things like Alan and Denny talking about the season, moving timeslots, the network, etc. I remember the first time they did it I think last season, it was a huge WTF moment that cracked me up big-time. This season though, they went to that well way too often. I guess I can kind of forgive the last episode, but it got to be annoying a bit. Kick-ass series none the less, definitely sad to see it go. Looking forward to making my wife watch the whole thing with me on DVD though!
-
I really liked it when they for a momoment jumped out of character and made a reference to real life " Maybe we should do a spin off? ". It was part of the charm of this show and part of it's ending. What a great show! I'm really going to miss it.
-
I wouldn't bet anything that Danny would have died, or that Alan would have (as promised) killed him, in the serie's finale.
It seems to me the show ended prematurely, but, if it had to end, then this was a terrific way to do it. -
Stupid voice recognition software!
-
I forgot that Peter had it. So then it begs the question: Can Arthur really steal the same powers multiple times?
-
You cannot apply science and logic to a show whose writers do not do the same.
One of my chief complaints about Heroes is that they should have chalked up a Science Bible that gives them the rules of what these abilities can and can't do. Instead, it comes off looking like they make it up as they go along. -
mindfields Kring was talking about. If the light is not given to Claire in the past, does present Claire, who was present in the past when the light was not given to her, still have the light because it had been given to her in her past? Does she no longer possess it because the past was changed and that would change her present (even though at the present she is in the past)? Or does she retain it and now two people have it?Speaking of the light, it seems all you need for super-powers is Jell-O shots. At $4 million / episode you'd think they could have come up with a substance that wasn't so obviously cherry Jell-O.
-
"Well, I guess it had to come to this."
Exactly.
Laroquette was typically great as usual this season, too. -
Shatner is God !!!
