GHOSTBUSTERS: The Video Game - Coming June 2009!
Hey folks, Harry here... This looks like more fun than most games - and with all 4 original Ghostbusters providing voices... DAMN! This looks great. I just hope there's a WII version with a plug in for my Wii remote that looks like the Proton Pack & blaster... cuz man, that'd be some nerdy awesome shit right there! Here's the trailer...

Been waiting and waiting on this...and now ATARI?
-
The voiceovers don't sound good at all. They all sound like they're half asleep, especially Bill Murray. The gameplay looks decent at least. Ghost beams never miss.
-
...I'm covered in my own ejaculate right now. Consider that game bought and in my Xbox 360 in June 2009.
-
Any word on who the 5th ghostbuster is? Counted him in a couple of quick shots.
-
rick moranis perhaps?
-
or mexican.
-
It's a rookie Ghostbuster that you play as. Rick Moranis is the only person they couldn't get involved.
-
the player, as the new recruit
-
No actual gameplay footage, sleepy voice acting and 360 launch game level graphics. Meh. Sure, it's not coming out for another six months, but this (tinyurl.com/5vbvez) looked some much more awesome.
-
than launch game level graphics in high quality mode. But c'mon, wow us with some gameplay footage, for christ's sake.
-
There, I said it. This "hermit" thing is getting old. If he wants to lay low, lay low. But spare us the editorials and the stupid records, please.
-
all of that was just scenes between levels, yeah?

Why would you want the wii version with last gen graphics?
by Orionsangels
-
tinyurl.com/5vbvez maybe. Sierra's no longer involved, apparently, but maybe they were just distributing/publishing the final product. The titles are the same in both videos, and the footage under that tinyurl looks pretty badass.
-
Yahtzee at Zero Punctuation said that the levels in the Wii version are cut-down and nonsensical renditions of the X-Box version. Is this true and if so would they do the same thing with Ghostbusters?
-
So you can aim the proton beams with the Wii Remote, I would assume. I'm just happy that I won't have to upgrade the PS2 to play it. And yes I am a cheap bastard and should upgrade but the only games that compelled me enough to buy them were Rock Band and now this, so I honestly don't see the point.
-
Cowering under the table. This man has no dick.
-
If you did upgrade, your shiny new PS3 wouldn't play your PS2 games because Sony have removed the backwards-compatibility chip.<p>Screw Sony - buy an Xbox!
-
http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=bFD8rh2YDyA&fmt=18
-
I want to watch it more than I want to play it. I hope there are many long cut scenes in this game.
-
Has that ever been released on the DVDs? <P> Also anyone ever heard the ray park jr. song mixed with Hand That Feeds by NIN? Its pretty sweet.
-
Graphics are nothing more than mindless eye candy, graphics don't make a game fun. In fact there are many many Wii games that are a blast to play, and only a few equally fun games for both X-Box 360 & PS3. I own all three systems, and play the Wii most. Though 'Left 4 Dead' has sucked me into the X-Box 360 as of late.

Once graphics are indistinguishable from real life
by Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World
whats the point then anymore? Do we have to wait until then before companies realise maybe there's another way of doing the games art and looks than just a realistic style? Man didn't abandon sculpting when he learned to paint, or whichever came first. How about a picaso looking game or some shit. Christ, it's only a matter of time before one game comes along and does just that, becomes a big hit, then we can expect every game to try to capitalize on the "artsy" look. Originality is dead.
-
There are games in which realistic rendering is totally crucial, and others where it's much better stylized (FF, Zelda, Mario, etc.). I'll be buying both the Wii version and the PC version to enjoy both!
-
Graphics are not just mindless eye candy (infact there's alot of thought put into them), and they can serve to make a game more enjoyable. <P> Look at Ocarina Of Time vs Twilight Princess. OoT may be the better game in some ways, but because it looks dated it just doesn't stand up to the experience that is Twilight Princess. And that's playing both on the Wii.
-
TimeLife released a 25 disc complete series DVD set of the Ghostbusters cartoon about two weeks ago. It's ~$180, and only available from TimeLife's website.
-
For those of you bitching that there's no gameplay in the trailer, pick any decent video game site (IGN, gamespot, gamespy) and you'll find plenty of gameplay footage that was released back from Comic Con, MONTHS ago. Trailers are meant to arouse interest in a product. I think even without gameplay, that this trailer does that in spades.
-
Come on, this information is so old now.. This post brought to you by HBO.
-
There's good reason why OoT looks more or less the same on the Wii vs N64. The Game came out well around 10 years ago. It's gonna look somewhat dated no matter what system you play it on. By your logic, you seem to infer that since the grafics of days past do not equal those of today that the gaming experience is lessened? Is the same true for movies? I suppose an older movies like Raiders, Alien or The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original) don't hold up because their modern sequels (or remakes) sport CGI rendered special effects? I'm of the opinion that a good game is good because of the gameplay. Graphics are nice, but icing on the cake.

BTW did anyone see the trailer for Far Cry 2 in the cinema?
by Amy Chasing
I swear for a moment I thought I was looking at real-life footage. But just for a moment. <P> It's the same with orchestral soundtracks these days. It truly is getting harder and harder to tell the difference between synthetic and real. But it's not perfect yet.
-
I'm not inferring anything. Simply that OoT's older graphics obviously can't compete with TP's graphics and I find TP a more enjoyable game because of it.
-
That's fine and everyone's entitled to their opinion, I'm just now clear on how older movies with older special effects stand the test of time, but older video games with older graphics do not. To me they seem parallel circumstances.
-
assuming we're mainly talking about high quality movies and games.
-
nothing else matters
-
I'm getting it for the story alone. I like the sound of it, and if they do make another movie...they have to have all the original guys in it...or don't fucking bother.
-
What's the holdup?
-
and because the game was bought by a different company.
-
I just peed a little.
-
AUGHHHHHHHHH!!!
-
I'm a cheapskate too still using the PS2<P>the game does look interesting, I thought Murrary sounded fine, or at least like Venkeman, Ankryod sounded like he didn't know if he was doing Ray or Elwood Blues
-
but how good is the actual gameplay?
-
I hope they turn into a movie :)))
-
I agree with Liverstealer. Pretty graphics are just pretty. Why else are Nintendo ROMs so popular? Remember when the Gameboy first came out? When it made 8 bit graphics look even worse? Look how popular that was. No, if the gameplay on the Wii makes it fun, then it'll be just fine on that system.

It's what I heard!
-
"but older video games with older graphics do not" Really? Seems to me a lot of older games with "older graphics" hold up really well. Ms. Pac Man, Tetris, Super Mario Bros., Metriod, Street Fighter 2... all hold up, because they had have 3D bump-mapped visuals to lean on as a crutch. The designers were forced to come up with something fun to play as opposed to dazzle you with effects. And as history shows, the systems that do the best arn't the ones with the best graphics (they're the ones with the best games). NES beat Sega Master System , which had better graphics... Gameboy beat EVERY single handheld system until the DS was released, PS1 beat the N64 (which had a better graphics chip), PS2 beat Xbox, and now the Wii, with it's inferior graphics chip, is beating PS3 and Xbox360.
-
But I don't give a shit. I've been waiting for this since I was six years old. And even if the trailer wasn't all that FUNNY, I still got chills hearing Harold Ramis talk about the ghost world.

Come on... are you saying the WII is doing well because it has better games? It doesn't. 80% of it's games are craptacular shovelware. It's winning because every Tom, Dick, and Harry bought it for Wii Sports and because it's the trendy item. It's the, "Look! I've never been into games before and now I want to start!" me-too crowd. The only thing selling on the Wii are Nintendo's first-party stuff like Wii Play and Wii Fit. Super Mario Sunshine didn't even do that well. I have the NPD data right in front of me. Nintendo has a gimmic and nabbed the coveted "casual gamer" crowd.<P> Other than that, you're correct, though. The vastly superior SNES spent it's entire life catching up with the Genesis, because Genesis had Sonic.
-
With good art direction, even SNES games will hold up alongside the next gen visuals. Super Mario Galaxy did not need a powerful system to look great and play great! It all depends on how you make use of your limitations.
-
And almost as many great games as the 360... Which has a full year headstart. The reason the Wii is doing so well is because its enjoyable FOR EVERYONE. Casual gamers, new gamers, hardcore gamers, old, young, women, men. It has lots of shovel wear (But not as much as PS1 & PS2 had lets not forget) but also lots of great games (Much more already then the overrated PS1 ever had)... and alot of great exclusives. And Super Mario Sunshine didn't sell well? Better recheck your NPD data, because it sold quite a few million as did Smash Bros.... And RE4 sold extremely well, hmm... thats 3rd party... No More Heroes did great for the type of title it is... The EA games, especially Tiger woodsw which sold the most on Wii . Also from EA boomblox did very well... Guitar Hero 3 sold THE MOST on Wii... and I can go on and on... I own both a 360 & Wii and that is the best way to go, as both have great games... and PS3 has like 1 or 2 only that isn't on the other systems.

but this new is waaaaaaay behind any gaming blog

It doesn't even LOOK like that on the Wii version. Gameinformer showed some pictures of the Wii and PS2 versions and they are being made in a more cartoony style. Not even Real Ghostbusters-cartoony. It looks like ass on those versions. What you are seeing is the PS3/360 version. Why would they show the inferior versions in the trailer?<BR><BR>Here are the graphics for the Wii version...<Br><BR>http://media.wii.ign.com/medi a/142/142188 55/imgs_1.ht ml<BR><BR>As for the assertion that the Wii has better games than, well, ANY system, that's ridiculous. It sells because it appeals to children and soccer moms. The moment you said that the Wii had better games than the PS1, than I knew you had no idea what you're talking about. I also love how Wii owners, when they talk about games that are great for their system, they whip out Resident Evil 4, which is a Gamecube/PS2 port and Okama, which is a PS2 port. Are you getting Resident Evil 5? Didn't think so. The PS3 and 360 are overflowing with great games and you guys have, if you're lucky, about 4 or 5 good ones next year. I do not know a single hardcore gamer who is happy with their Wii. It's a casual system, plain and simple, with a crumb or two a year thrown to the hardcore gamers.<BR><BR>
-

Which was released June 16, 1989. I'm such a nerd for remembering that!
-
Have they been talking about this game? They were supposed to release it last month.
-
valentines day. bummer.
-
A perfect retro combination! Now, where's Ghostbusters 3?
-
Stop being so fucking cynical, people. Sure Murray sounds a little sleepy, but hey, who woulda thought he'd even do this?
-
You are like the buzzing of flies to him!
-
The original publishers of the game, Sierra, were purchased by Activision-Blizzard this year. They dropped every game in production that they could not shit a sequel to, every year (seriously, they have said that their strategy is only to release games that they can have constant sequels to). So, Ghostbusters, The Chronicles of Riddick, Brutal Legend, and a whole lot more, were all dropped, while Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and, for some odd reason, Spyro, were kept as franchises.<BR><BR>Ghostbusters had to find a new publisher. When they finally did, Atari decided it would be best to wait for the anniversary of the original movie to release.
-
Winston sounded good but looked like he had AIDS, Ray sounded like someone was squeezing his testicles, Murray sounded like he didnt wsnt to be there and the Dialogue wasnt funny. The Graphics I though were mediocre (maybe it is my non-HD monitor) I also think they could have used better special effects and the theme song better.
-
they're always good!
-
The past 3 years i hear the same crys Wii sucks. I can understand this small power with no games whipping big bad PS3 a$$ yea i be mad too.
-
Just a feeling.. Now add a multi player element where we can kill each other with the lasers and then we are talking! Otherwise this is a since mission game then collecting dust. :( I would like to see it work for the record.
-
Murray obviously has no interest in being there other than the fat payday he's getting. But like senior-citizen Sean Connery voicing Bond for the From Russia With Love video game, Murray no longer has the oomph he had when he was the Original Famous Ray. Connery sounded like an old curmudgeon with dentures. Murray sounds like he would rather be playing golf. With Sean Connery.
-
Not anyone who has ever played anything other than Wii games, that's for sure.<p> I am disappointed with my Wii because all the games suck. I loved the first Rayman: Raving Rabbids game, but the sequels have been utter shite.<p> The Wii has what is commonly known as "shovelware" being written for it on a daily basis. Even the head of Nintendo had to apologize for there not being any good games coming out for the foreseeable future on the system.<p> I would like a PS3 and an Xbox 360, but the prices are still too damn high for the Sony, and I'm waiting to see what MS does with a Blu-Ray player peripheral for the XBox 360. In other words, I'm holding out for a better deal.
-
I have all three systems and the Wii's library is mostly shit. Wiggling a controller doesn't make a game more fun and the gulf of quality that separates the Wii from the PS3 and more specifically the XB360 is fucking massive. You are of course entitled to your opinion but how anybody can claim the Wii has better games with a straight face is beyond me. It may be the market leader in terms of sales but as a console that was supposed to offer new and innovative games, it has been a smashing failure. Also, that whole “graphics don’t matter” argument is nonsense: Videogames are a visual medium and graphical advancements directly affect game play, The Wii is a third tier system with a third tier game library.
-
Anybody who claims the Wii can even approach the XB360 library has shit taste. The PS3 still has some catching up to do but exclusives like Uncharted, Resistance, and Little Big Planet are getting them some headway too. And by the way, Little Big Planet is better than anything Nintendo has put out in ten years, Mario Galaxy included.
-
but the spectrum version is still king.
-
Lovely! Everything about this gets my nostalgia senses tingling.
-
The Xbox 360 has the best graphics hands down. I'm amazed at the number of Playstation apologists who simply deny to themselves that the Playstation graphics look pixelly and staggery.
-
Also reprised his role and voice for this! Yes! YOUR MOTHER!

This is what's important: Did Annie Potts reprise her role?
by ZeroCorpse
Because she's hard to replace, dammit. <p> Kudos for talking about this, AICN. Maybe you DO care about the geeks who made you, after all.
-
it's a Spider-Man 2 and not a Superman.
-
The Wii's library is shit, pure and simple. I had a Wii and only played it for RE4 and the other games were only for when friends came over. I did love the virtual console however. <p></p> As far as graphics -- while I am no graphics whore, I do think a modern quality graphics can improve the game, because that can open the door for better physics and interactivity with the environment. The Wii's graphics are simply too behind, and the games themselves are limited gameplay-wise. Now my 360, I played the hell out of it when I actually could afford games. And when I get a job soon, I'll play the hell out of it again.
-
I knew that the Wii was going to start losing ground once the novelty wore off. Well, it's happening now. People are finally starting to notice the limitations with the Wii - the graphics are dated, and the "amazing" control has lost it's gimmick. It's now turned into a liability (that's just my opinion). Another year and the Wii will be the butt of jokes in the gaming industry. Mark my word.
-
I cut and paste from other sites.
-
Dude, the wii sucks, its a fucking gimmick. I mean did you play force unleashed? It sucked ass on wii.
-
I heard that the Wii version will be much more cartoonish...i hope that's not the case, that would really piss me off.
-
Well, everything was fine until dickless here shutoff the protection grid...
-
<p>The Wii is outselling all of the other consoles (practically combined.) And why? NOT because it has the best (looking) games, that's for certain. But because it's the lowest price of latest systems. It has an innovative controller system. And it's games are 'casual gamer' friendly. Hell, my PARENTS own a Wii and they want the Wii Fit for Christmas. I predict that Nintendo will still own Christmas in sales over it's rival competitors, but not because it's better in the eyes of the hardcore gamers, but because it's better at putting out games that ANYONE can play.</p> <p>My roommate has a 360. I have the PS3 (but I have a 40"HDTV and his is much smaller :P) So I can safely say that XBox has a better library of enjoyable, well designed games. But, since I've been a PS2 owner for years, I'm more than happy with my PS3 which lets me play the new games (which are STILL beautiful IMO), I can play my old games on it too. And I can even play some of my PS1 games remotely on my PSP over the internet! Take THAT XBOX! <p>TheLastCleric is right though. LBP is FANNNNTastic.</p>
-
I haven't seen any numbers to back your claim, but maybe the installed base of Wii is nearing the limit. I would think that as long as the controllers and gameplay is fresh, they should have no problem. I always thought that interactivity would take a back seat to the best in graphics. Guitar Hero and Rock Band prove me wrong.
-
Yes she did. everyone but Rick M.
-
Story written by Harold and Dan. Everyone but Rick M is in it. You play as the fifth Ghostbuster. It takes place 2 years after Ghostbusters 2. Dan, Harold, Bill and Ernie consider it Ghostbusters 3. In fact it uses aspects of the Ghostbusters go to hell script. You can find this info on any game site.
-
My kids woulda loved this for Christmas. Viggo the cruel, viggo the despised, viggo the tormentor, viggo the sorrowful...
-
when you fire your Games Editor and then say, "meh who needs one? We can all just take turns doing his updates."

With main missions and side missions and mini games. It could be a blast. Does William Atherton supply his voice, and Annie Potts in her Noo Yawk accent? Just to slap in a game and hear.."when there's somethin strange in your neighborhood"...will be grand fun.

Please no, don't make the Wii version cartoony!
by theyreflockingthisway
I love the Wii - it's such a fun machine but I also like to own a few adult looking games. Will it be so hard to just update the graphics to be a bit more like, say, Resident Evil 4? <br><br> The Wii is even more powerful than the GameCube which was one of the most powerful machines of the previous generation - if that can handle some amazing graphics then surely the Wii can too. Developers are damn slackers these days!
-
... Is one that is equally enjoyable over time regardless of the evolution of hardware. Ms. Pac-Man is still one of the most popular games because it's still fun to play. I'm not going to say it's popular despite the graphical limitations because Namco remade Ms. Pac-man in a 3D, textured, rendered (insert more techno-babble here) version years ago and and it sucked. The original is better because for it's gameplay, the original sprites and one-screen layout suited it best. <p><p>The mid-to-late-90's were a time when all the game designers were pushing for more realistic graphics, even though true realism wasn't possible because of graphical limitations. So while the polygon based characters and and texture mapped backgrounds of PS1/N64 games dazzled us in 1998, they look absolutely horrid compared to todays games. That's why Ocarina of Time is less enjoyable for Amy Chasing, I think. The gameplay is just as good as it ever was, but Link looks like a jumbled mess of polygons and the environments look like they're covered in cheap wallpaper. I predict that folks will feel the same way about Twilight Princess in a decade. Meanwhile, the designers just keep evolving game graphics straight into the uncanny valley.<p><p> I think that one of Miyamoto's best moves was making The Wind Waker divert from the "realistic" designs and going for a stylized look. It takes the comparison element out, resulting in a more timeless game.
-
You're right there - no doubt. I even really enjoyed Wind Waker despite what the masses thought at the time. It's also true that the 360 and PS3 graphics will appear outdated at some point. <br><br> I can't say I'm bothered about the graphics being more basic than on other formats, but more about it being aimed at children. A lot of adults own a Wii too so it's a bit insulting to us to have them say "right the 360 and PS3 are the adult version and, as you're children, here's the kids version for you. <br><br> To be honest it's more the kids themselves that'll be pissed off by that. Kids arn't stupid and, I remember back in the day, I'd take the Ghostbusters movie over a cartoon version any day.
-
I'm sure that one of the ghosts in the trailer sounded like him.
-
What about the Twinkie?

My problem with the Wii is that the control scheme is just too loose. The games are fun (at times) but can be extremely frustrating.

Dammit! Student Loan Payment vs. Gaming System with Ghostbusters Game.... FIGHT!
-
When Activision merged with Blizzard this year, they dropped several games from their release list; including Ghostbusters, leaving it in the video game development hell. Lately Atari has been going around and buying up the publishing rights ti semi-high profile games, and Ghostbusters happened to be one of them.
-
My favorite of the Zelda games. Why? Because I found the world the most immersive of them all, the puzzles were harder, and the cel-shaded graphics are great and probably won't date. <P> Twilight Princess was more fun but too easy, and Ocarina of Time is the classic that started it all for 3D Zelda but looks dated now. Taking all that into account, Windwaker comes out on top. <P> But getting back on topic, if they make changes to the Wii version of Ghostbusters like they did to Force Unleashed (ie. nonsensical level designs), I guess I won't be buying Ghostbusters either.
-
..has obviously not played CoD,GoW2,LBP and now the new Prince of Persia. 360 owns all, and Ps3 has great potetentual. Tey just need more f exclusive games.
-
Even with the lowered price tag of the PS3 and XB360, they're still an awful lot of cash for a game system. And before you open your mouth about PS3's Blu-Ray player, how many people REALLY give a shit about that? Particularly as not everyone has an HDTV to make Blu-Ray worth owning?
-
I agree that there should be a better way of launching a game on platforms with different capabilities. It seems whenever a major release comes out on all the systems, they toss the PS2/Wii versions to the interns or the hobos outside the office to program it. There's got to be a way to scale back a game without fundamentally changing it. Anyone who's played the God of War games knows that a lot of power can be squeezed out of the ole' PS2 and a more than adequate version of Ghostbusters can be made for it.<p><p>And Stalkeye, I don't think anyone's saying that "graphics aint shit". At least I'm not. What I'm saying is that graphics can't make a bad game good. They are no substitute for gameplay.<p><p>On a long enough timeline, every game that is hyped for its "realistic, immersive graphics" is going to be described as having "realistic, immersive graphics (for its day)."
-
I'll wait for the PS3 to come down a little or my budget to go up enough to afford it. My ps2 still works fine, plays lots of games and I can play better ones on my PC. GB game does look very cool. Can't be worse than the NES version!
-
"The vastly superior SNES spent it's entire life catching up with the Genesis, because Genesis had Sonic." Actually, no. After Street Fighter 2 was released, the "catching up" was pretty much over, since SF2 was an exclusive for a year, and when they released a Genesis version, a better update was already available for SNES. I think that and Donkey Kong Country pretty much nailed it. True, Sonic 1 and 2 were huge hits, and Sega had more "adult" titles (plus an uncensored Mortal Kombat), but SNES "won" by pretty much by big margin, selling 49.1 million versus the Genesis 29 million.
-
About the wii and whether the games are good are not... I don't know, I don't actually own one, and this generations console "war" isn't over so it's kinda hard to tally up which system had the better games. I seem to recall that the NES had TONS of shovelware titles (anyone remember "Yo Noid!"?) and was still a huge success based on the handful of good to excellent games it had. What I'm saying is, ultimately, the strength of a systems graphics processor does not equal success. I think the only real exception to that rule has been the SNES, but you could still point to the Jaguar, 3DO, and the Phillips CDi as being of that era, all of which had much better graphics than the SNES, and all failed miserably. Up til this generation, it's been the quality of the games. Maybe this one will change that.
-
Those big ass Michael Bay/McG type flicks that are all style and no substance are what I equate dudes with that have this fixation with graphics on a video game. Honestly.
-
Sigourney Weaver is in this, either.
-
I'm sure the game will be fun to play, but unless they make it for the original NES or Sega Genesis, I won't be playing it anytime soon. This won't make me go out and buy a new gaming system, but it will make me pop in my GB DVD sometime soon!
