EXCLUSIVE!! Learn Which Former Cast Member Returns For Tonight's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!
I am – Hercules!!
Amy Poehler, who left SNL last month to deliver Will Arnett's spawn, returns temporarily to Studio 8H tonight, to play Barack Obama's new secretary of state designate and anchor Weekend Update one more time.
Those who had hoped Lorne Michaels might be ousted from “Saturday Night Live” and replaced by Rosie O’Donnell found their dreams dashed when Rosie’s live variety special became Thanksgiving Eve’s least-watched network hour in primetime, pulling a fraction of the audience SNL garners in late night.
The Thursday primetime edition of "SNL," by contrast, turned out to be NBC's highest-rated scripted series this fall.
What's ahead for the late-night edition? Look! Press release!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JOHN MALKOVICH AND HUGH LAURIE HEADLINE “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE” IN DECEMBER WITH MUSICAL GUESTS T.I. AND KANYE WEST
New York, NY – December 3, 2008 – Two of the best actors working today and two of the biggest names in music topline NBC's "Saturday Night Live" for two back-to-back live shows in December.
On December 6, John Malkovich hosts. Malkovich makes his third appearance on the show after turning in a pair of critically acclaimed performances in Clint Eastwood's "Changeling" opposite Angelina Jolie and the Coen Brothers'hit comedy "Burn After Reading" which will be released by Universal Home Entertainment on DVD December 21. Malkovich is one of the most compelling presences in cinema and theater with an over twenty-year body of work. As an actor, he has appeared in such diverse films as "Being John Malkovich," the animated hit "Beowulf," "In The Line of Fire," "Of Mice and Men," "Dangerous Liaisons," "Empire of the Sun," The Killing Fields" and "Places in the Heart" (for which he was nominated for an Oscar, along with his work in "In the Line of Fire"). He is a guiding member of the landmark Steppenwolf Theatre and has formed the production company Mr. Mudd – which has produced such intriguing films as "Ghost World" and the Oscar winning smash "Juno."
Joining Malkovich on the show is Grammy and BET award-winning musical guest T.I. The hip-hop star makes his solo SNL debut after performing "My Love" alongside Justin Timberlake in 2006. T.I. will perform from his No. 1 debuting "Paper Trails" (his third consecutive chart-topping release). The first two singles from the record exploded onto the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making record-breaking rises, replacing each other at No. 1. "Paper Trails" is the follow-up to his previous No. 1 platinum-certified blockbusters "T.I. vs. T.I.P." and "King."
On December 13, Hugh Laurie returns to "SNL." Hailed as one of the best actors on television, Laurie stars in the hit medical drama "House" which has garnered critical accolades as well as two Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild award and numerous Emmy nominations for Laurie. A veteran of groundbreaking British television comedy ("A Bit of Fry and Laurie," "Black Adder," "Saturday Live" and "Jeeves and Wooster"), Laurie has also appeared in films including "Street Kings" "Flight of the Phoenix," "Sense and Sensibility," "Peter's Friends" as well as the family hits "101 Dalmatians" and the "Stuart Little" films and will next lend his voice to the Dreamworks animated feature "Monsters Vs. Aliens." Educated at Eton and Cambridge University in the U.K., Laurie was elected president of the venerable Footlights Revue, where he worked with frequent castmates Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson.
Joining Laurie, and making his third appearance on "SNL" is hip-hop titan Kanye West. West will perform from his just-released (and his fourth consecutive No. 1 Soundscan debut) "808s & Heartbreak", with its blockbuster hits singles "Love Lockdown" and "Heartless" This recent No. 1 debut follows the pace set by his first three landmark No. 1 releases – 2004's "The College Dropout," 2005's "Late Registration" and last year's "Graduation." The first two albums generated a total of six Grammy Awards, including consecutive wins for Best Rap Album of 2004 and 2005, and Best Rap Song of 2004 ("Jesus Walks") and 2005 ("Diamonds From Sierra Leone"). "Graduation" generated three Grammy Awards: Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song ("Good Life"), and Best Rap Solo Performance ("Stronger"). "808s & Heartbreak" is also following suit for West in garnering lavish praise – hailed as "the best album released this year" by the Washington Post and garnering a four-star review from USA Today.

HUZZAH!!!!
-
You know, Flight of the Conchords is starting up again. Maybe have one of them host...
-
He was great last time and is great, period. Did anyone ever say "John Goodman again?!" or "Steve Martin again?!?!"
But I agree - having Jemaine (or maybe even BOTH of them, would be great.
-
it's funnier than the current show.
-
Hopefully he won't be staring at the cue cards the entire time for his second outing as host.
-
me...at least until they add real talent to the cast
-
Hugh Laurie was a genius last time he was on...the dude is a born comedy actor. Any limitations on the performance could be pinned to the writing and not him. I had no complaints with that episode. He executed it well. The fact that most Americans can tune in and see him do comedy for the first time with no sense of his comedic background is awesome.
-
But seriously, can anyone tell them to show up a few days before and learn the scenes? I mean its not like its complex dialogue or something but they all seem to never know their lines and stare at the prompter, all of them, I swear I could do a better job on SNL then most stars and I can't act for shit.
-
And if you're trying to argue that he's not... read up on his performance at Bonnaroo 2008. Most people there wouldn't have been as upset had he actually acknowledge that the crowd was there, or something as simple as "oh sorry for the delay guys" but he's too big of a douche come down to the "fans" level. F-off Douche, I hope you're shot in NYC
-
The two of them hosting an episode together is an awesome idea. Make it happen Lorne Michaels!
-
What's this I'm hearing about David Lynch wanting to team up with Alex Cox for a "Repo Man" sequel? HUH?!
John Wayne was a Fag indeed, you boys.... -
have you noticed that its never only the host thats reading the cards, the cast is just as guilty. I dont know if its because things are being written and rewritten up until 11:30 or if its simply a safety net kind of thing. I mean if u had to know lines, but some guy was standing right in front of you holding up them up, it has to be difficult to NOT rely upon them. but i digress, watch the show tongith and notice the actual cast members. They are just slightly more skilled at reading than the hosts.
-
i cant remember EVER not buying an album because the artist doesnt seem like someone i would invite to my wedding or something. He Makes music, i dont think i could give less of a shit what his personality is.
-
Pure shit.
-
What he pulled at Bonnaroo this year is unforgivable. He's a terrible artist.

Kanye West, BIGGEST overrated piece of shit in music history!
by orionsangels
-
An "Eragon" parody that is a direct riff of "You Mock Me", where Galbatorix is chewing out Durza, and two Urgals make fun of him. Now that would be hilarious to watch.
-
He has, uh, turned in... fine performances in, um, the many projects he has, uh, been associated with, such as... un, he was in Con-Air and Being John Malkovich and, uh, that thing where he was an android, right? Is it time for the Hugh Laurie episode yet?No wait, John Malkovish as Michael Stipe - that would be kinda funny... -ish?
-
C'mon, Herc. No one wanted that.
-
I adore Kristen Wiig... despite this sketches best efforts to make it not so.
-
more than I wanna watch this one?
-
Dec 06, 2008 10:56:03 PM CST
At least Wiig's "sexy" character was different from her usual.
by flim springfield
Too bad it wasn't very funny.
-
Was basically just their commercial parody? Que?
Calculatah! -
Come on...that has to be deliberate, right? From the cuffed up jeans to the wrinkled jacket to the way-too-short tie...it's got to be "ironic" right? Looks look a fucking gypo.
-
I don't like that annoying T-I song though.. Seriously, that's good?
-
She's not a "FORMER" cast member yet. She's been in the opening credits all season, including this episode.
-
pimp kid is great
-
especially white chicks.
True. Very true. -
Pretty decent ep, so far. Loved Armisen as Boy George.
-
Damn.
-
... a twilight sketch in the past couple of weeks.
-
possibly the most disturbing Malchovic thing ever
-
is now broadcasting all of their SD programming with the sides of the screen cut off. Idiots.
-
Looks like the digital short moved.
-
The digital short... I recognized Timberlake, Jamie Lynn Sigler...
-
How risque!! Can't get away with that at 11:40
-
Molly Sims was also the model in the club in the very first verse.
-
Funniest parody of techno I've ever seen!
-
Thank you... I couldn't think of her name.
-
Until you hear John Malkovich say "and now T.I. with special guest Swizzbeats"...
-
"Jizzed" was funny. Totally agree about the Pet Shop Boys comment.
Casey Wilson is way too big for a 28 year old though. Her profile in the opening montage, along with the photo on NBC, suggests otherwise. I guess TV does add 8 (make that 28) lbs to the camera. -
And GIVE THE LONELY ISLAND GUYS THEIR OWN SHOW. Jizzed in My Pants was Fucking Gold!
-
Are we supposed to know who that other kid rapping was?
-
The other singer was Jorma Taccone.
-
FOTC did Pet Shop Boys better with "Inner City Pressure"but it's not a battle.
-
was the guy with the mop bucket
-
I look forward to fast forwarding past her shitty sketches on final time.
-
just reading through this talkback I am shocked to find the complete absence of any reference to casey wilson's nips in the Gert sketch..
-
They're referring to her as "former" because despite her presence in the credits, her previous appearance had been announced to be her last ever.I, Firehawk, did make note of her nips. And I'll take her couple extra pounds any day. Though I'll admit she has yet to actually do much of anything that's funny. Even the new fat guy has managed one or two chuckles from me. And finally, I really love Hader's Italian talk show host. I also like that he snuck in a Malkovich impression that was pretty good.
-
...was brilliant. I hope they can do several installments of this as current events unfold.
-
I'll admit it was amusing, though I could see folks considering that to be too Obama-friendly. Still funny and well filmed, though.
-
Still, she's was gone for what, 4 episodes? Not like Garret Morris made a cameo. Wait, is he still alive?
-
Breaks down like this- Tina Fey, despite being terribly unfunny, looked like the shockingly inappropriate republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Her mockery made some ratings. So each week and in subsequent weekday offerings, we had this political commentary spearheaded by Fey's Palin. Now it's over. But they're trying to keep the momentum going. Surely, SNL has always made their politically charged sketches, but now it seems they're getting desperate. And I've seen this phenomenon before.
Have you ever met a person, usually a drunk guy at a party or bar, older, rife with a deficit of attention, that you’ve noticed to be quite unfunny and still trying to be relevant in passing conversation? Then, after a while, this jackass finally tells a funny joke or chimes in with a timely quip that gets people laughing. So this person starts repeating the last half of the joke with emphasis on the punchline. After a while they just go right the punchline for pity laughs until you can’t stand this person again and summarily forget why you laughed at them in the first place? That’s SNL this season. -
I think it was at a commercial during one of the breaks.
-
And I'm very worried she'll be booted, since they have brought in 2 new "featuring" girls. And one is a stringy-necked skeleton like Fey, Poehler, etc. (Although Bob Elliot's granddaughter isn't so bad.) But Casey has never really made an impresssion and needs to, badly. Casey's year is almost up, since she started last winter-- will we be Wilson-less in 2009?
-
most of you just bitch about it not being funny week after week yet you still watch. Why?
-
The jizzed in my pants song was classic, it was funny and ironic because later in the episode Casey Wilson's nipples in the gertrude sketch actually did make me jizz in my pants Oh, and i noticed kristen wigg's cleavage was well featured in several sketches, they should make those a featured player
-
Twilight skit. That kid's hair alone deserves mocking. They can be seen in mirrors, aren't afraid of garlic or crosses, can't be killed by steaks or silver or sunlight; how do you know they are vampires? By their poofy hair. How do you know which is the most powerful vampire? He's the one with the highest hairdoo.
-
SNL is supposed to mock politicians, not fellate them. While I think that every President-elect should be given a certain "Honeymoon" period by the media, it would better to not bother to do a skit at all than to just heap blind love on a politician.
-
As Obama goes through the transition he finds things are worse than he thought and things aren't coming together as he envisioned. Next one he would be "Going with the Flow", then "totally freaking out, man!".
-
You are a brilliant mother fucker.
-
not even the Twilight vampires. And those ones can't be killed by stakes either.(I suddenly have a hankering for a well-done T-Bone)
-
i laughed pretty hard however at Kristen sexy girl. (it ran long tho, we got the joke after like two minutes.)
-
DVR it and watch it on Sunday afternoon. I'm too old to stay up Saturday nights anyway. The show has been pretty good this year, and I've been staying up to watch it since the Eddie Murphy days. It has had its ups and downs over the years, but pretty consistent laughs with Malkovich last night. Final nitpick for you talkbackers - that song didn't sound like or mock the Pet Shop Boys - maybe some other techno group. Now if the singers were acting effeminate, that would be another story. Who was the other singer - Samberg's Long Island buddy?
-
The only other "funny" part was when John Malcovich messed up during the calculator skit.
Is it really that easy to waste John Malkovich? -
Looks like it wasn't a "hot" set! braa-ha-ha-ha!
-
That's pathetic.
-
"I Jzzed In My Pants" That was the funniest and coolest thing that has been on Saturday Night Live, in terms of their short films, snce the old days. And, BTW, the music and lyrics were great!!!
-
Man, these lazy fuckers sleepwalked through the last three seasons based on newly-loosened FCC standards regarding the word "fart".
-
the other guy was Jorma(cant remember his last name) I assume you meant lonely island not long island, which is correct. He's also been a writer on the show ever since they brought samberg on. I'm still very much so hoping he gets added to the actual cast.
-
yes, Lonely Island, I stand corrected. I found their website, even downloaded the MP3 of the song by Sunday evening! Funny stuff - sounds like they have a whole album coming out in February.
-
Last week's episode : " You sunk my battleship ! ( laughter ) " This week's episode : " You sunk my battleship ! ( applause )
