is one of my favourite films, but I only realized that the Jenny Blake character was based on Bettie Page much later (this sort of thing flies right over the head of an eight-year-old).

a beautiful and charming woman, with her ups and downs.
as any retro-body appreciating guy knows, she is IT. she was the one they broke the mold after. the winning combo of timeless hair, bright eyes, wholesome smile, and the hips and bottom that are just mathematically designed to scream 'fertility!'....i was always more a fan of the nudes or classic pin up work, not the bondage stuff she is 'notorious' for. We will one day lose our legends, let us hope she slips softly into the other....

    by zaphodbeeblerox

For folks who aren't fans of the pin up genre its easy to think that Bettie has been dead since she has purposely kept a very low public profile for decades. I know of only personal appearance she did back in the 90's with Olivia and Hef for something. Bettie Page probably more then anyone else helped to shape my outlook regarding sex and what is sexy through her modeling. Not matter what type of image it was, from just on the beach in a bikini or doing some of the Irving Klaw bondage pics, she always had a 'girl next door' quality to her and above all else, she made it look like she was having fun doing it! Bettie went so far beyond the pics and has become both an institution and her image has become an industry in and of itself. I wish her a very speedy recovery back to health.

    Very sad news

    by neosamurai85

I've always had a soft spot for the stories behind classic sex icons. Gypsy Rose Lee, Vampira... heck, even Elvira is pretty interesting in how she became her character. From the myths to the facts, there is just something genuinely fascinating about these people, and Bettie... she's one of the best. Having seen a couple of her films, I always find it amusing how much fun she seemed to be having. Even in some of the most compromising or absurd situations, she never really played the victim. If you look at the bonus features on the Notorious Bettie Paige dvd there is a video of her stripping, and the conversation she has with the camera, the body language and the amused look on her face... its difficult to describe, but its a really clear example of why she endures as the icon she is to this day. My thoughts go out to her family. Peace.

    by mal carne

I've known some strippers in my life, and to a woman they were horrid individuals in person. It's always seemed to me that taking your clothes off for money, on some level, was potentially very psychically damaging.

But somehow, Bettie Page never got hurt. She had something to keep her core safe and clean, even in the midst of all that. I don't know how, I don't know what. But it was there, and it was more beautiful than any pin-up.

Find peace, quiet, and rest, Ms. Page. Thank you for being so very generous. Be well.

    by zerocorpse

I mean, I feel bad for her and her family with the whole "coma" thing, but frankly, I thought she perished a long time ago.
And don't lecture me about respect for the dead. First of all, she's not dead yet (apparently!) and second, I don't know her and don't have any religious fear of death that makes me need to treat it with some sort of sacred reverence. It's what happens-- Our brains stop working, and we cease to exist. It's how we're built. It sucks, but it's not a tragedy-- It's the way things are.
I hope she recovers, but let's face it: She's old. Old people eventually die. She may not WANT to wake up... She might be tired and ready to go.

    She was always a Christian

    by jack parsons

What else can I saw to the comment that she is one "now". Posing for the camera in your undies doesn't make you a pagan. I know, you meant "she's a member of a Christian sect that absolved her of her past life, even if she didn't need absolution."
