NBC Towing KNIGHT RIDER
To Talking-Car Scrapyard??
I am – Hercules!!
NBC has reduced its episode order for “Knight Rider” from 22 to 17; its first season will conclude Feb. 25, the network announced Wednesday.
James Hibberd at The Hollywood Reporter explains the show’s status:
This episode reduction likely spells the beginning of the end of the show, since "Rider" ratings have been abysmal. Unless there's marked improvement between now and the finale, it's tough to see NBC paying to bring back "Rider" next fall. Still, as with "Lipstick Jungle" -- which the network has not ordered new episodes for, but has also not pulled from its lineup -- NBC sources say they do not consider the show canceled.
NBC picked up "Rider" for a full season in late October, relatively early in the show's run. Though modestly rated, the numbers had seemed to level off. After the pickup, "Rider" declined -- and kept declining -- with the most recent episode watched by 5.2 million viewers and earning a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49.

NOW!!!!

FINALLY
-
FOILED AGAIN
-
and yet Boston Legal, Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, the list goes on all being cancelled... <P> I still can't forgive the cancellation of Firefly. Hooray for the lowest common denominator.
-
Holy hell, maybe this means things are looking up for the peacock network. I've got my fingers crossed.

Uh, Herc, the link is a link to your email address...
by FilmCritic3000
Just an FYI.
-
I'm not kidding either.. I can't believe how bad this show is.
-
Bye bye fake-KITT. Should have gone with the original Transam and The Hoff. Oh yea, and that little thing called... what is it... ummm.... WRITING!! Oh yea, that silly little thing where people talk between the explosions and crappy CGI
-
The original won no awards in the writing dept either, but at least it was entertaining
-
Reading that, I just had to stop and think for a moment about the idea that getting five million people to all watch the same hour of entertainment is considered a failure.
-
Who wants to be a Hood Ornament? No writers, no silly sets, no CGI, just women in bikinis laying all over Ford products, absolute genius!!!
-
Give me a reason to watch this show.
-
If you're going to brink back a show from the 80s it should be Automan. That would be sweeeeeeet.
-
"I'm the guy who wrote The Fast and the Furious, I have a reputation, and that reputation's going to be on this show so I need to make it cool." <BR><BR> I still LOL so much at this it almost makes me pee.<BR><BR> Bionic Woman and now Knight Rider if they had just put a little more money into getting quality writing talent and decent showrunners these really could have been ratings gold for Nbc. <BR><BR> What are they planning on screwing up next.?

funk you
-
Bring back the Hoff and have him lay it on the line with a bit of honesty. He can say something like "I heard you guys were screwing things up around here, so KITT and I are back to save the day!" The show will probably still fail miserably, but it may be worth a shot.
-
...will take a leak on the Mustang in a nod to that turkey of a movie, "Transformers".
-
Seriously, Bionic Woman was a better re-imagining than this show has turned out to be. Getting rid of some of the excesses of new KITT would do wonders for the show; that and getting decent writers. The cast is fine. Just fine tune this mofo.

Seems the cast or acting isn't the problem with most things.
by Amy Chasing
Just the writing and production. <P> Looks like NBC was just hoping people would watch Bionic Woman and Knight Rider because those casts were pretty damn attractive.
-
Dec. 4, 2008, 1:31 a.m. CST
They should hire Scott Thompson from Kids In The Hall--
by Bob Cryptonight
--to produce. I can see Buddy Cole driving around arguing with KITT (voice by Henry Gibson) and saving lives!
-
I know that I'm one of the few, but I kinda liked the re-imagined "Bionic Woman" series.
-
Worst everything, it's as though the guys from "meet the spartans" an "Epic movie" we given this property to play with. an they brainstormed. "How can we truly take a big-ol' steamy pea & corn dill-sized pickled Shit on the Hi-def plasma screens on a wide-scale an not the local theater? We need Bad actors. Check. Cheesy writing. Check. Over the top stunts. Check. A fanboy base who want to remain in the 80's. Check." Fuck i think we go a winner guys!...Hope the next time i get on this site, i hope the tag is "Knightrider is totalled!"
-
The show already is a joke.
-
NOTS SUPPOSE TO END TILL 2012!!!!!!! UUUURRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Bring the brit cunt back and make her transform into KITT and Katie Sackoff and be KARR. All jokes aside, Sackoff should have been the bionic woman. She had such charisma as the damaged bionic woman which could have worked as Jamie Summers. She was fuckin' blonde for Christ's sake. I am saying this not as a BSG fan. I would not consider myself a BSG fan, I have watched the show, I enjoy it, but never make time for it so I couldn't tell you shit about it other than what I read. My Sackoff suggestion is based upon her being the only real person with leading role potential. Miguel Ferrer was great and so was Isaiah Washington, both poorly used. The younger sister plotline to get some tweens involved (I thought they did some stunt-casting with Winnie from the Wonder Years, at first) was a waste of time. Cross-agency love and her real supposed to be jake British accent episodes were cringeworthy. Then, Knight Rider comes along and shows you how you can do it even worse. Every time KITT comes through the garage doors there are two people running across in opposite directions with carts of various "technology". Even in its '80's heyday, Knight Rider didn't insult the intelligence of its audience like that. Impossible camera angles from satellites and security cameras is just plain silly. The crazy physics defying car transformations based on "nanotechnology" are dumb, too. Viper was based on that technology. So Knight Rider is ripping off a show that ripped off the original Knight Rider. That show has a pursuit mode and an off road mode. At least the off road mode actually looked like a sci fi off road vehicle instead of "Hey, I am a regular pick up truck, jump in the back hero and heroine, that is my special ability in this form." And could they not dig up KITT's original voice. A good portion of this show's cash is probably going to Kilmer who sucks as KITT.
-
They need Karr to come in and saving the ratings day! Or Golith.
-
oh wait- they already did that
-
Only NBC could take a show that was pretty fucking dumb in the first place and make it much, much dumber. <P> I'm going to write a script/bot that -- I promise you -- could run a network far better than the Dilbert's-boss-types running the Peacock.
-
This show is essentially a paid-for 1-hour ad by Ford Motor Co.. That's why NBC didn't care about the qualit of the show. And now that the automaker is in financial straits, they don't have the money to keep it going. Maybe Congress should give some of that bailout money to NBC for a second season?
-
built in fan base, 50% of the story in place and a backstory to build on and you fucked ut up.
-
I now understand why Knight Rider wasn't cancelled right away. Basically, the show was an hour long Ford infomercial with some acting thrown in to make it seem like a real TV show. I understand why it sucked so hard. It doesn't make it right, NBC, but at least I understand it now. What I don't get is how Val Kilmee became a fat ass and the voice of KITT. I don't get that...
-
but they still need a line of credit. http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2008/12/04/2003430224
-
i cant watch tv or tv commercials anymore without one.
-
essentially gave the existing fanbase who tried tuning into this shit fest the bird. It was clearly a ford marketing video, with almost NO attention paid to script, character development, logic, etc. The only thing keeping it going were Ford's marketing dollars paying for production costs, so NBC didn't give a crap about ratings. Now that it seems logical Ford is pulling some of those bucks all of a sudden the 'full season commitment' doesn't look so hot. FUCK YOU NBC. I hope others remember how little they cared for their viewers opinions when they try to launch a new series, I know I will.
-
Can't help but be completely flummoxed as to how you take such a concept and go out of your way to fail miserably at it. I tried to watch one episode, the first 20 minutes was of the car being on fire and then trying to get it back to base before the people inside died. Really?
-
but 20 years on...it has all the panache of late vintage disco. In an age of Xbox, CGI movies, iphones, and 24/7 internet porn...a talking car just ain't gonna do it.
-
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century! Erin Grey in spandex ca. 1982....Set phasers to Fap!
-
Dude, that was the same episode I tried watching before I said fuck-it 20 minutes in. I mean, the car is on fire...ok, is there a pool or a lake nearby...or a fire hydrant! apparently not. And it was getting so hot inside the car they decided to strip to their underwear...mm hmmm, that's gonna help. And then when the car gets to the super-secret super-car clean-lab, they decide to somehow create a vacuum in the entry tunnel to douse the flames, instead of, oh I don't know, spraying some water on it! I mean, the Mustang always looks pristine, they must detail that fucker onsite. Grab the dude's hose for god's sake!!! All this aggrevation and I only watched 20 minutes of this shit-fest. Glad I wasn't the only one who tuned out after this ep.

-
while Firefly got cancelled 11 episodes in, is proof that there is no god.
-
It makes no sense that they dump money into struggling mediocre shit shows and ditch great shows they already own (Battlestar).
-
Dump that shit Ford commercial and put on a show that has won fucking awards for its brilliance... Instead of leaving it on SciFi Channel, where it shines like a diamond (Galactica) that has been sadly wedged into a lump of shit (the rest of SciFi's shows). <p> Let a bigger audience watch the show without needing to rent it. Some of us don't have cable anymore, you know.
-
It was just as lame as KNIGHT RIDER and it's original success was just as mysterious.
-
The movie last spring was very highly rated, not because it was good but because people were curious. They tuned in to see what it would be like. I did not like it and decided if it would go to series I would not watch, and didn't. The curiosity factor and name recognition helped it early on, but it seems the product was lacking. The original's goodwill gets you only so far. Eventually the remake must stand on its own and this one didn't. Is this what the kids mean when they say "epic fail"?
-
Blow up the current Mustang and possibly most of the characters. Bring back Hoff and the original "Black T-Top" with the original voice and people will watch. The horrible CGI, transforming KITT, and terrorism-type plotline just isn't cutting it. Bring back the Hoff dammit!
-
it IS a Ford commercial--Ford has probably been paying some major league product placement fees, and now is pulling the funding. This should have been a series of 2 minute "commerical-sodes" on the Ford website--never should have tried to pass this off as anything else.....
-
room for something of higher quality--anything else they air will be of higher quality--except Rosie.
-
The question is, will we want to tune back in to give another series on NBC a chance, seeing as how they could care less about what the fans want and are more interested in pandering to the lowest possible denominator for a quick buck. I have nothing against trying to make money..that's the whole point of any business, but to completely turn your back on anyone who had in interest in ever seeing this go to series is a basic FU to any potential future viewers of new programming NBC might have. At least at Fox they fuck with the fans before the show airs, like with Dollhouse.
-
they hit rock bottom, and KEEP digging, actively trying to lower the Lowest Common Denominator even further: "Let's see if they can swallow THIS!"
-
Remember that show? Fox spent the Spring promoting it for the Fall, but when the Fall came, it was nowhere to be found. It was relegated to the tv dead zone between February sweeps and May sweeps and never to be heard from again.
-
Hosted by Joe Rogan.
-
start to finish, on Sunday nights. It will draw the audience that won't go to (or doesn't get) the SciFi channel, plus BSG fans will tune in most of the time anyway--no real competition for BSG on Sunday nights. They could pimp direct to dvd movies and Caprica there, too.
-
I love when they promote the shit out of something and then condemn it to hell, acting like it never existed. Fox is FAMOUS for this shit. How bout we play a little game of 'Does Anyone Remember ...'? and I'm gonna start it off. Does Anyone Remember...DRIVE!!!!! They promoted this like it was gonna be video of Jesus doing magic tricks and pulled it after 4 eps
-
Jack Bristow as a lawyer. It was actually good, but I'd rather see Jack Bristow as Jack Bristow, and Sydney Bristow in pr0n.
-
Nowhere man on UPN? Starred Bruce Greenwood. And Blue1622 Justice was a good show. Too bad it got canned.
-
Space: Above and Beyond??? Lasted 1 season on Fox.
-
They should've taken a hint from what RDM did with BSG.... instead, they went for something meaningless and silly when they had all the ingredients to make something intelligent, deep, challenging and serious. They completely missed the boat with Bionic Woman too.
-
Loved that show--and some of the "look and feel" of it carried over to BSG<p>only real flaw in my view was that the pilots were also commandos/grunts depending on each week's story. A minor nit, though. Great Cast, too.
-
this IS the Knight Rider TB, right? You in the right thread, there, veritasses?
-
Yeah, maybe deep, intelligent and challenging might be too much to ask from KNIGHT RIDER, but I think I know what Veritasses is getting at. After all, think about BGS Gen 1. It had a stupid mechanical dog named Boxy was always mischeviously getting into trouble for gods' (pl) sake! Old school BSG had a fair amount of cheese associated with it also, but somehow they managed to beef up the story and leave the kitch behind. That being said, there's a diff between Space Opera and tranforming car stories...I don't think deep would work with the latter...at least not too deep lol
-
They went through all the trouble of creating a tricked out, techno, super, fantasti-car but in the end it's really nothing more than a gadget. A prop. So with nothing really interesting to tell, the stories that they created (at least the ones that I've seen) revolved around the more or less mundane "get/stop the bad guy" type. <br><br> I think there's a far better story to be told concerning Kit and the concept of sentience in a machine. This would make Kit as well as the people that have to deal with the complications of working with Kit (practical, moral, ethical) much more interesting. Not to mention crafting the organiations (our own govt, a SPECTRE/Quantum type entity, rival institutions) that want this technology and what they would do to get it. The scope of ideas that the stories can revolve around is much greater, far more mature, serious and interesting. But this series would be a complete reboot and would be "Knight Rider" in the same way that RDM's Galactica is to the 80's version... So no Hoff or any ties to the old series. And of course, half the fun would be coming up with worthy adversaries. <br><br> There was a same sort of missed opportunity with Bionic Woman.
-
Kidnapped?...Great show on NBC cabcelled after 7 eps starring Tim Hutton, Delroy Lindo, Jeremy Sisto etc etc. It was reaired on Universal HD and I got the chance to watch the whole thing. Great story, and the acting was spot on. Delroy Lindo is the man.
-
But I gotta say that the whole transforming car as a self aware crime-fighter is not something I could take seriously--if it was done tongue-in-cheek, like Eureka, they could have done some real character work in that framework--I just don't see a BSG like treatment of KR ever working.<p>I agree, though--BW had all the potential and a great cast, and piss-poor writing (actually, that is insulting to piss) squandered it all before the first episode was finished airing--then it went down from there.
-
I know the Office, but that's about the only sure thing. Heroes is about to be gone I suspect after this season.

Hey Fanboy71, it does proves that there is a Satan...
by Leafar the Lost
Fanboy71 wrote,"How this turd has managed to stay on this long, while Firefly got cancelled 11 episodes in, is proof that there is no god." Yes, but it does prove that there is a Satan. Clearly there must be a mastermind of evil out there if this has been allowed to happened...by the way, FIREFLY SUCKED!!! IT DESERVED TO BE CANCELLED!!! IT WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH!!!GET OVER IT!!!
-
Reboot it again! Seriously it'll work on the third try! But seriously those ratings are worse then The Rosie Odonnell Fat Lesbian Singing Show. And thats sayin something.
-
Seriously. We'd all watch it if any of the female supporting characters was the one driving fast, throttling the stick, jumping over stuff, and beating up thugs. A beautiful woman smacking a guy around resonates, as though in the back of your dirty mind you know it's YOU that deserves the spanking. KITT could have had a father-daughter rapport going for comic relief ("Are you going to wear THAT?")The show is so 80's, but butt-kicking babes are timeless.
-
(heavily made up eyes) is not enough....<p>This had the Flash Gordon feel--wonder if any of the same Tools were working on this?<p> Lots of model types posing a lot, poorly written banter on top of everything else that was so wrong and poorly written.
-
WTF--Now I love me some Sophia Myles, but this is not SciFi, you dumbass suits.<p>Reminds of a few years back when SciFi showed Braveheart.
-
Dude, Bionic woman had the best female protag I've seen in ages in the form of Katie Sakoff. She owned that show and played a charachter I'd watch without the whole bionic woman backstory and it still couldn't hold an audience. The new KR had plenty of hot chicks (see my earlier post regarding how preposterous it was for characters to be stripping to their underwear because their CAR was on fire) but the shit they expected us to swallow as an audience amounted to a prize-bull sized load of epicaly shitty proportion..it was advertisement in the guise of entertainment and the only people it could appeal to were those who really really believe those late night infotainment ads are actually filmed in someones kitchen. It violated the agreement between viewer and entertainment producer that someone was actually trying to entertain us, and not just cash big ole check from Ford. Fuck you NBC. I hesitate to give any new shows a chance anymore if they are on your network.
-
Has to be the worst T.V show I have ever seen. It's a car, it's a transformer, it has a blower, then it doesn't. It has some of the shittiest acting I have ever witnessed on T.V as well. Especially that asian chick in the crew with all the one liners. God I just want to punch her in the face repeatedly.
-
See subject.
-
that's where I'm coming from, ya dig? Bionic Woman was great for the first few episodes, if a little grim. Knight Rider, on the other hand, was pure fluff, and that's okay if you play it right. They didn't. I know my suggestions are for my benefit only, but people like a female lead in an action show. Think about ALIAS. I think another female action lead could work with the right formula, and I don't think that formula has to be entirely dramatic. I might not know what it looks like without seeing it, but watching KR I couldn't help feeling like the appeal should be more basic. That's when I start thinking tire burnouts and stilettos.
-
Nuff said brother. I think we are both coming from the same place. The show sucked it and we're both dissappointed with it's suckitude. Now maybe if it had been about someone riding Katie Sakoff around town we'd have had something I think...
-
most intelligent shows around. The subtile brilliance of Knight Rider was the only reason why I watch TV. How the writers made Kitt into the classic version of Nitsche's Ubermensch and set the entire show in a modern day Dante's Inferno and ended each show with a classic Orwellian twist gave me hope that there was actually some intelligence in Hollywood.<br><br> Oh well, I guess I will have just stick to the biting social satire of reruns of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air on Nick at Nite.
-
and kill everyone associated with it (except the hot women)<p> Last year if you'd have asked me if I thought I'd ever see a show worse that the Bionic Woman remake, I'd have said "no".<br> Well, that was before the Knight Rider remake and before Heroes reached the level of stupid it has.
-
Not sure how it's still on TV
-
You obviously didn't get Firefly. That's okay, it did require a bit of intelligence to digest all the background and dialog. Stick with KNIGHT RIDER and you'll do fine... and wipe that dribble off your chin.
-
Since it's too late to save the superior JOURNEYMAN.
-
Who would've thought taking a beloved family friendly action series and remaking it as an over-sexed car commercial would fail to find an audience? You alienated everyone who loved the original, the potential kid market (the fans of the original) and everyone who had good taste all in one "failed" swoop. How smart does that make you feel?
-
with the exception of those ultimately responsible for this show; those at the top who simply shrug their shoulders and ask "ok, what next?".
