Want a peek into the mind of Jodorowsky's KING SHOT?
Hey folks, Harry here... sigh... excuse me... tonight I'm working on my DVD column, after a post-coital glow from watching BENJAMIN BUTTONS and cooling down by writing to the action of 4 DIE HARD movies in the glow of my Christmas tree... when I get an Instant Message from Rav. Rav is one of these fanboy creatures that finds the most amazing things and forwards them on to me. This time - it was a simple YouTube link. I clicked to find a featurette on the production of Alejandro Jodorowsky's KING SHOT - a metaphysical spaghetti western gangster flick starring a whole shitload of cool folks and shot by the lens of master Vilmos Zsigmond! Excuse me... I have my second coital glow of the night... get your own by watching the following...

Yup.
-
Both directed by John McTiernan.
-
this looks awesome.
-
At least as much as I can be. Good to have crazy uncle Jodorowsky back in the shit again.
This one looks hopeful (as if there's any reason that it wouldn't). He says it will be commercial...POSSSIBLY. With young people....not with today's youth. I highly doubt a jodorowsky film can be commercially successful with today's youth, and I'm one of them (an exception to the rule...but you get what I mean.) -
"... a shitload of cool folks, and Maralyn Manson." Still, looks interesting.
-
On Die Hard: Damn right.
-
I'm currently knee-deep in his Incal comics, and it's some of the best sci-fi I've ever read. Illuminating, bawdy, dizzying, classical; if you want to branch out into European comics, you can't do much better.
Vern, if you're reading this, I'd check them out. -
But, still looks neat nonetheless.
-
Now THATS something to be excited about. Fuck this Avatar bullshit. THIS guy is the real deal.
-
then scotch.
-
You do realise Avatar will be better than Terminator 3?

You do realise Avatar will be better than Terminator 3?

Overhyped and overrated by geeks who will also be confounded by the fact that it is going to bomb. They already made the Matrix (twice, actually, if you count Tron), and i don't see how James "I Made Two Good Movies -- T1 and Aliens" Cameron can improve upon the idea in any way shape or form. Except, perhaps, with even more effects and special cameras. Perhaps something with an underwater theme?
-
the guy writes books about the "amazing prediction capabilities of Tarot readings"...sigh
he also gives some stupid "psychomagic" (sic) advice to people with psychological problems where he asks them to do stupid things and charges money for that -

they need to market this like it was a Michael Bay movie

so that everybody goes to see it and leaves the cinema in traumatized shock.

KING SHOT-FUCKING YOUR BRAIN AND SOUL IN 2009
-
That the Wachowski brothers should have stolen, I mean borrowed, some of the plot of El Topo for the Matrix sequels. It's good to have Jodorowsky back, even if he is fucking mental. It wouldn't have been a big surprise if Tarantino came on board as a producer (as well as Lynch) but I bet he's busy on Basterds.
-
Yeah, if only Jim Cameron had the talent of the Wachowski brothers.
-
I CANNOT WAIT!!
-
I've only seen the Matrix sequels once, but am a massive El Topo fan. What elements do you notice as being repeated? I'm very curious and am too busy to watch the Matrix films again just for catching similarities.
Thanks!

David Lynch involvement + shitty cast = This Will Suck
by shiftyeyeddog2
the concept art looks AWESOME, but everything else about this flick screams disappointment and crap... plus that director seems likes a pompous ass.
-
...and I JUST posted a pic from "The Holy Mountain" on my Facebook. This is awesome news!!
-
Don't be naive! He's been talking about this movie for at least the past 5 years. So he has a script and some concept drawings? Great! Now good luck finding someone who wants to fund a movie as weird as this. And it doesn't look like it'd be a very cheap film to make either. Jodorowsky will die before he makes another film.
-
You can change yourself into gold. I recently saw El Topo and Holy Mountain - if this is even half as creative, visionary, and fun as those I'll be be very happy. If only more directors were as ambitious as Jodorowski. Holy Mountain is mind-altering cinema as ceremony - more of that please!
-
I'd like to get a busload of Twilight fans into a screening of El Topo. Like deer caught in headlights.
-
Secret Chiefs 3 music, Jodorowsky and Zsigmond behind the camera, Mickey Rourke in the cast.. FUCK YEAH !
For the first time ever, I am excited at aintitcoolnews....
And I am loving the fact that the ball-sniffing geeks who lurk here don't get it. -
one more name I forgot....
the best Dracula ever (yeah, that's right motherfuckers). -
Looking forward to this more than anything else I can think of really.
-
I can't wait for this. Holy Mountain is one of my favorite films ever made
-
Jodorowsky and David Lynch. I just punched a baby in the face! This is the coolest of news.
-
Is just what this world needs right now! The rumblings on this project have gotten louder and louder. I think it might really happen.
-
I desperately want to see this. It looks crazy cool.
-
Damn, how long has it been? This is one of those guys who cannot help but make an interesting film. Too bad he is constantly MIA.

Pull your LA filmschool head out of your LA filmschool ass
by donnarumsfeld
Who cares if it 'does well' or if he is pompous or a wacko or any of that crap? Jodorowsky is immaculate. He is an auteur. He makes magnificent movies and he always delivers.
-
What a crazy, fucked-up film that is...
-
only 5 people here in manila will see this. If ever it goes here the *right* way.
-
He had me until I saw the names Marilyn Manson and Asia Argento. Which means this will be a rental at best.
I wish the great man all the best with King Shot, but those two 'actors' are not my idea of great or cool and thereby dampen this project for me. -
I loved the fact that Jodorowsky made sure to draw the distinction between "artistic" film and industrial films. I couldn't think of a more perfect classification for large spectacle than "industrial." Oversized, expensive, impersonal and belittling. Excellent.
-
Get the asses in seats.
-
this looks awsome and i love david lynch
-
make a metabarons movie already - actually a trilogy - rated r - get lynch to direct - they might be box office failures, but great bat shit crazy fantastic movies
-
"...and Asia Argento." "...not my idea of great or cool". If you were not a homosexual, you would understand the appeal. By the way, this sounds and looks alright, but Jodorowsky has better ideas than he does completed films. Even his best work like Santa Sangre or El Topo are mixed bags, while something like The Holy Mountain or The Rainbow Thief are boring and messy.
-
Jodorowsky NEVER disappoints -- one of the greatest visual directors in history -- to think this man almost made DUNE -- looking forward to KING SHOT...
-
Do they mention if Nick Nolte is still in it?
-
Yep, his name was listed. I hope he gets to play the lizard pope. For some reason I used to confuse him with Gary Busey (who might have the right kind of crazy for a part in this.)

retarded

:)!!
-
He seems hungry, with something to prove. He might surprise.
-
The video is gone. IT'S ALL GONE!!!!!!
-
Pretentious, pseud ass.
-
that there seem to be some tb'ers here who don't know anything about Jodorowsky!!!! RUN TO NETFLIX AND ADD EL-TOPO AND THE HOLY MOUNTAIN TO THE TOP OF YOUR QUE!!! You can thank me later.
Oh and , does anyone have any news on a region 1 Santa Sangre DVD? -
Someone has to dislike Asia Argento. XoXo at you.
I happen to adore El Topo. The other films are not my cup of tea. While I respect Jodo's vision, I don't agree with his opinion of the aforementioned people he deems 'great' actors.
-
I havent read Incal but have been meaning too. I think the Metabaron saga is one of the greatest comic sci-fi stories ever. It's freakin poetic. I need to re-read them. Also Technopriest which i'm reading now is totally unforgingly awesome.
-
This is some of the best news ever. I liked his line in the video about living as long as his fingernails. Hopefully he'll get to film a big budget hardcore sci fi movie. If he got to do a Metabarons movie...i'd poop myself and then turn into gold.
>p>
So if you guys n gals havent checked out The Metabarons comic book, then you reaaallly should check it out.
So people if you -

I'm reading the second volume of Technopriests this very second
by seppukudkurosawa
This Janjetov guy can draw some of the most ugly and beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. If you like his art, I'd check out his work on the Incal prequels he worked on a few years before. Shit, after reading that, I'd have sued The Fifth Element if I were Jodorowsky... Oh wait, he did. The suit got thrown out of court, but I'd say Jodo had a point. TFE's like a different story set in the same Universe Jodo, Moebius and Janjetov created. I haven't read the Metabarons yet, but I've got them on order. Looks like I'm in for something quite special (as if I expected anything less from this man).
Anyway, glad to see such a high Fan-to-"Ugh, his movies are pretentious and unwatchable" ratio in this talkback! No one's forcing you to watch The Holy Mountain and write a 50 thousand word essay on it. Jodorowsky's there as an alternative for the people who might be into him. We NEED the crazy visionaries. The people who see the world from such a unique angle that they can't help but infect others with their individual perspective. Pseud? I've not got a single doubt in my mind that he believes in the stuff he says (example: he thinks that people don't write stories, they were planted in our minds already). And that's good enough for me. -
...but if Asia Argento is in it then I will definitely be masturbating to it eventually.
-
I've been trying to find the proper release order for all his comic properties and am having trouble. The few L'Incal collections are astronomically-priced, and there are so many editions I'm confused. Can you help me make sense of the proper order and where the best place to get them is?Thanks in advance!
-
Just kidding. It seems like it would be hard to be in between on Jodorowsky, either you're gonna love that shit or you're not gonna enjoy it at all. HOLY MOUNTAIN is one of my favorite movies ever, and I've been dying to see him try another movie.
It's kind of funny to see people saying they'll skip it because they don't like Asian Argento or whatever. Have you seen a Jodorowsky movie before? Do you think it really matters who's in the cast? Shit, it could be Martin Lawrence, he'd still probaly have him nursing a baby tiger from his nipples or some crazy shit like that. That said, I'm very excited to see Nick Nolte let loose for Jodorowsky. That just might be dangerous.
And I don't think "pretentious" applies to this guy. Do you think he gives a shit about pretense? He doesn't give a shit about anything. He made a movie about turning shit into gold. He wants to distribute this movie by going around projecting it on the sides of buildings. He doesn't need to impress anybody. -
I figure someone is only pretentious if they go overboard trying to get everyone to acknowledge their genius. Jodo talks like a space case, and I can see why some people might confuse this with pretention, but I don't see him lobbying for recognition or playing to the critics.
The guy simply makes the movies he wants to make. Your opinion does not exist in Jodo's dojo. -
I sure hope they come out with a DVD for Sante Sangre. That shit was nuts.
I saw it earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival. Jodorowsky's son presented it, and Nick Nolte was in the audience. -
Sorry for the late reply, but here you go. I'd recommend reading the prequels first like I did, but it's your call:
The Incal #1: Orphan of the City Shaft (Humanoids) (Prequel)
The Incal #2: John DiFool, Class "R" Detective (Humanoids) (Prequel)
The Incal: The Epic Conspiracy (Humanoids/DC)
The Incal: The Epic Journey (Humanoids/DC)
For the Metabarons...
The Metabarons Vol.1: Othon and Honorata (Humanoids/DC)
The Metabarons Vol.2: Aghnar and Oda (Humanoids/DC)
The Metabarons Vol.3: Steelhand and Dona Vicenta (Humanoids/DC)
Also The Techopriests tie in, those are...
The Technopriests Book 1: Initiation (Humanoids/DC)
The Technopriests Book 2: Rebellion (Humanoids/DC)
Hope you enjoy them! -
Jodorowsky movies have a habit of appearing in the Incredibly Strange 24 Hour Movie Marathon here in NZ (this years event takes place this coming weekend - WOOHOO!)
Whilst I can appreciate the "art" in Jodorowsky's movie making, they ultimately leave me cold. There's some great imagery and a feeling that there should be a meaning but if there is then it is utterly impenetrable.
I would probably enjoy Jodorowsky's work more if it weren't part of a 24 Hour marathon, in which setting his movies feel about 3 times longer than they already are. -
