I watched an ep last week, and I couldn't even find implied humor. The songs did make me want to cut my wrists with the carcass of the bubble wrap to my new router though. If that was their intent, well done.

Give a try to other episodes. I didn't laugh that much watching the first one and now it's one of my favorite funny tv shows.
It's the same as watching the first episode of The Office US, not funny at first, but when you get used to the characters it's win-win.

Can't wait for Season 2, hopefully some new songs too

    by drath

Worst possible way too, another notch on Sylar's serial killer belt only for no reason since he had her powers already. Now he's just a killer for killing's sake, and she goes out like all the other female characters who've run into him--it's incredibly sexist and terrible writing. They've written her so badly though, it felt like a mercy killing as well. I don't blame you, Herc, for not giving them a talkback, but I still had to bitch about it. Terrible writers, terrible show. Bryan Fuller has his work cut out for him.

I concur, the guys are great, but Murray is the funniest part of the show.

Oddly, I looked up some of Rhys Darby's stand-up on YouTube, and it was pretty awful. Like, fingers-in-ears bad. Still, the genius of Murray Hewitt is more than most comedians will ever achieve.

I consider myself as a man with good taste...

    by rocklobster800

in comedy...living in the UK Ive managed to dismiss utter bollocks like the IT Crowd (I even shudder at its name)anything to do with russell brand, and most new american sitcoms(hope and faith? samntha who?) and have a deep love for genuinely brilliant inventive comedys-Arrested Development,Curb, Peep Show, Seinfeld,Black Books, Father Ted, Larry Sanders-all the great shows ,some that have fallen by the wayside as others are celebrated...and God knows Ive tried to like Flight Of The Conchords. But I just cant. Im sure I get it-the glibness in the face of surrealness and all that. But its not funny. And I would leave it alone. Agree to disagree you know.BUT I still meet people who go on and on and ON about how brilliant it is who then say they dont "get" Dark Place, or dont understand how Curb is funny .And while its not the shows fault I have to vent rage by saying that its a bit crap. Not all bad...Kristen Schaal is adorable (althugh shes no Isy Suttie) and they do coax the odd chuckle..but how this thing is so celebrated while (in the uk at least)Arrested Development just gets shrugged shoulders Ill never understand. But then the people who do this also watch the dreaded IT crowd and two pints of lager, so maybe I need to hang out with other people.

Fortunately, I had already watched last nights Heroes, but when I read that I got pissed just thinking about the people who havent seen it yet and are gonna have a huge part of it spoiled in a talkback that SHOULD be safe from that kind of stuff. If you need to talk about an unrelated show then at least have the common courtesy to spend 3 seconds typing out the word SPOILER.

I love Flight. I think it's really funny. I get and enjoy Dark Place. I hate Curb and Seinfeld. I know I'm in the minority on Seinfeld at least, and usually on Curb. I also don't like It's Always Sunny in Philly. Again, I'm in the minority. And I've learned to just shrug and accept that my opinion is not everyone's opinion. It happens. I say go with that "agree to disagree" mentality. It'll save you ulcers.

    Flight Of The Conchords are:

    by amy chasing

Very talented, very musical, very funny, very geeky and very entertaining. Why? Because they can make fun of music and artists, but it's obvious they love them and manage to perform send-ups that are more homages than piss-takes.

It's very clever and anyone who doesn't acknowledge that doesn't know what they're watching.

That and with the success of musical TV episodes and a certain Sing-A-Long Blog, their marketing timing is perfect. Hat's off to FOTC!

    Reply to Talkback

  • In fact, I suspect Two Pints, IT Crowd and Conchords all appeal to quite different audiences. I sympathise with some of what you say, but just because this particular show doesn't do it for you doesn't mean that those who do like it are a homogenous band of tasteless fuckwits.

    by thecomedian

I watched Tenacious D's HBO show when it was on. I know every episode by heart. Bought they're album back in 2000. Even saw the movie. I've got nothing but love for The D. But Flight of the Conchords are waaaay funnier. Mainly because Brett and Jermaine are equally charismatic as opposed to The D being mostly about Jack Black but also because they have a much greater range in their song styles. Plus their storylines are just more fleshed out and funnier. Though it's not really fair to compare the two HBO shows side by side since their like ten years apart. Anyhow, I really hope they bring back Rachel Blanchard as Sally this season. Maybe she ironically helps them get their revenge on The Crazy Dogz.

Thrillho, maybe good at their parts, but hate

    by necgray

Yep. Hate. Vile, reprehensible, completely unsympathetic characters. And boring. I know some people liked the whole "show about nothing" aspect, but I didn't. I don't want to watch a show about nothing. I could videotape myself if that's what I wanted. Larry David on Curb is even worse. The storylines are slightly more interesting, but the character is, if possible, even less sympathetic. Arrested Development's characters were largely unsympathetic, as well, but there was always Michael and George Michael. And I know I'm in the minority on hating the shows and the characters, but that's how I feel.

    really necgray?

    by rocklobster800

I usually find Larry David to be a VERY sympathetic character..particualrly in the first four seasons. I dont see what could be unsympathetic about him at all in those seasons-he's a guy who constantly gets caught out by social foibles, usually has the best of intentions and gets caught up in something that is blown out of proportion by the people around him. Yeah around series 5 he became more abrasive and brought on arguments but in classic Curb Larry was always the character you were meant to side with. I can understand finding the Seinfeld characters a little hardder to swallow but their flaws were what drew me to the show-that was the beauty of George Costanza, in that he was a self absorbed, lieing ,stealing, nuerotic wreck of a human being who would do ANYTHING to get him out of the situations he landed in but you still hoped he would suceed(The Season 5 ep The Opposite when things DO go right for him remains one of my favourite eps of any tv show). I do think its down to the viewers own personality purely-me and my friends empathise completely with those characters cos we too are in part really nuerotic, socially awkward, overly analytical and find it quite difficult to comphrehend the other memebers of society we come across (its even worse the more well adjusted they are I find). And this has lead me not just to a love of the show but of the characters....so it realy is a show that appeals almost directly to peoples individual personalities in that respect. And I also love AD, and all the characters....but I dont sympathise with a brain/heartless ass like GOB even though I love that him. He's just basically good comedy
