Steve Buscemi and Kelly Macdonald To Star In Scorsese-Directed HBO Pilot BOARDWALK EMPIRE??

Published at:  Dec 01, 2008 3:52:58 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Steve Buscemi (“The Sopranos,” “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry”) and Kelly Macdonald (“Trainspotting,” “No Country For Old Men”) are in talks to star in HBO’s pilot for “Boardwalk Empire,” produced and directed by Martin Scorsese from a teleplay by Terrence Winter (“The Sopranos”).

“Boardwalk,” about the rise of gambling in Atlantic City in the 1920s, is based on the book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City" by Nelson Johnson.

The Hollywood reporter describes:

Buscemi would play Nucky Johnson, a cunning businessman who runs a liquor distribution ring at the onset of Prohibition.

The Scotland-born Macdonald would play Margaret, a smart Irish immigrant who married the wrong man to get out of her parents' house.

The pilot marks Scorsese’s first non-documentary directorial effort for television since the 1986 “Mirror Mirror” episode of “Amazing Stories” starring Sam Waterston.

of all things, a '90210' casting announcement today? Aimee Teegarden will join the CW show soon, and Julie's a pretty significant player in the FNL-verse. There'll be only 13 episodes when it's back on NBC 1/16. So the cast have been cleared to work on other projects in the meantime. Here's the rest of the story from E!: http://tinyurl.com/6rystc

...is a blight on the film for you guys, you're trying too hard to find something not to like. Besides, you're missing the payoff to that joke, when Donny actually says something Walter wants to hear (the time of their next bowling round) and stops himself halfway through his automatic response to Donny's voice.

Do any of you know Ray Didinger?

    by pennsy

He's a Philadelphia sportswriter who's in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he covered baseball as well for our Daily News. In his column the day after the Phillies won their first world series in 1980, he related a story about his late grandfather, who was a diehard Fightins' fan that actually purchased his 1964 World Series tickets before the season was over. That was the year of the Phils' epic collapse, blowing a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 to play. He always said after a loss during the streak, 'We'll get 'em tomorrow.' But one day near the end of that season, after he watched another loss, Didinger's grandfather didn't say anything. He just got up and flicked off the television. Ray wrote, "That's when I knew it was over for the '64 Phillies."

I had a similar epiphany now. I wish I hadn't called it 19 minutes beforehand. What you saw tonight was the equivalent of Peyton Manning benched before the Super Bowl. Of US women's soccer coach Greg Ryan benching Hope Solo, who only had three shutouts in the Women's World Cup last year in favor of Briana Scurry, who hadn't started a game in 3 months, but who had a better record against Brazil. The US got trounced 4-0. You get the idea...

I stuck by Heroes through the most underwhelming season finale (S1) that I've ever witnessed. I toughed it out through FeudalHiro!, West, and the Telemundo Twins. I sloughed through a lot of season 3, because one shining light made me watch anyway. And now she's gone.

Google E! Online Watch With Kristin website; hopefully she'll have an exit interview with KB. I hope she pulls a Heigl and throws these writers under the effin' bus. Now, there's no chance for a return. Like my late mom says, when one door closes, another opens. Her future as an A-list movie actress is a hell of a lot more brighter than Heroes could offer her. It's their loss, and ours. :(

    Is this the Heroes TB?

    by big jim

So how come last time Sylar tried to open Elle's head he got blowed up real good, yet this time...?Was there a reason, other than it sounded cool, why the Haitian's brother was called Baron Samedi? He seemed to have super strength. Was that his power? Is this power in any way relevant to the Voodoo spirit he is named after? Or is the Haitian's brother's favourite movie Live & Let Die?Is Mohinder turning into Doomsday? Is he going to turn into a savage, uncontrollable, unstoppable, monster that destroys Pinehearst and everyone in it? Then threaten the entire world (or at least the town he is in) and it is up to the Heroes to band together to stop him? Maybe Peter can absorb everyone's powers again and face off again Doomohinsday, ending in both their deaths. Not like they have any qualms against ripping off previously published material.

That scene was all about Mohinder, how he can't have a normal life because he's ugly. It's his Quasimodo/Phantom (of the Opera, not Menace)/The Beast (of Beauty and) moment.Would Maya have been happy to see him? Sure, he no longer had open sores and things poking out of his skin. But he's still the same guy who stuck her to a wall in a cocoon. By the way, from where on his body did he excrete that substance? Did Mohinder drop his pants, moon her, and suddenly she's covered in goo? Gotta say, even without the skin lesions she'd probably still be a bit wary of letting him into her apartment.

    by sephiroid

... Let's face it. Elle didn't have a reason for existence. I mean when they first introduced her, she was a psychotic, spoiled "daddy's girl". Later they tried to give her some "depth". The problem is (apart grom horrendous writing), that she was always doing rounds around the bitch persona, which at times was irritating... But none the less, let's just say that I really don't think that Elle is dead. And even if she is, well, Sylar could always repent and revive her. After all he does have Claire's power (and healing blood).

Now, answer me honestly Pennsy: Are you Bell's agent, Bell herself, or just a really obsessed and loyal Bell fan? After all your posts, I really have suspicions of the former two.

    Alirighty then...

    by sephiroid

...but let's face, yet another fact. Bell perhaps in the future may turn out to be a great actress.I do believe that she has some talent at least. But so far, we only saw her in a tween detective show, and as daddy's little bitch. Not roles to be remembered for. Maybe we will get to see something better of her next time. But until then, let's not deify her (or any other "californicated tween") for that matter. And I think we both agree that the writers in Heroes need the whole can of whoopass, though the last few episodes were an improvement if not what else. What this show needs is to rebbot it's self, get a good pace, and fucking keep it that way! I strongly believe that they are still experimenting with it so they can get first season's ratings. Well guess what geniuses: After the damn strike, you will have to really work your asses off to do that. So either do some decent writing, or give someone better a chance!
