Only with MY solar system...
-
the second my paycheck comes in.
-
I'm not much of a cartographer, but that would be fucking awesome on my wall. I would need to buy two though, stupid-ass two-sided posters that are awesome on both sides.
-
That's lovely! More proof that FOX is retarded. Depth, History and Detail. A fully realized sci-fi universe. And they cancelled it? I could rant but I've had a beer or ten so I won't waste anyone's time. Man! SSOOOOO dumb.
-
I didn't think the 'Verse was that fully realized. I'd kill for a high res of that poster.
-
No need to kill for a high res version, just fork over your money and they will deliver it to your door. Nice poster. I wonder if this idea, this fully realized universe was there from the outset or if someone (someone not Whedon or Minear) just sat down for one afternoon and came up with it to make some more money out of this.
-
that means however you hang it (Unless you build a display case in the middle of the room), you lose 50% of the artwork. That sucks.
-
"Hey buddy, did you check out the nerd?"
-
But I gotta admit that it looks good.
-
Island on my wall. My asshole aunt who was living with us at the time tore it down when I was at school. Can't find a scan of it online. <p> I love and collect maps of imaginary places. It's a silly fascination of mine.
-
Firefly was the greatest show nobody watched. I love the 14 episodes and the movie that they "allowed" us to see. But I don't see the point of this. It's very pretty, but really, for $34.95US...what's the point?
-
Because $34.95 is not a very high price to pay to have something nice to hang on a wall. I'm sure there are more than a few of us out there that have rooms decorated in space themes, and this would be a fantastic addition (and no, they're not all basement rooms - some of us DO have wives that are into it as well)
-
I ordered it yesterday before I saw the AICN blurb along with a couple of ISV Cerberus T-shirts. Best damn TV show ever made!!

The mixture of the Wild West and Sci/Fi did not work...
by Leafar the Lost
...and that was Firefly and Serenity failed. I remember watching the first episode, and I really wanted it to be good and watchable, but there was just something "not good" about it. It was like mixing ketchep and ice cream. I like both of those foods, but when mixed together it sucks. Therefore, I will not buy this poster, and I will do whatever I can to limit it's distribution in the United States.
-
Looks GREAT!
-
Non fans won't give a shit about some map of the Firefly universe. Doesn't matter how beautiful you think it is.
-
What sort of scam is this? Not that I would buy it anyway.
-
Not really.
-
tinyurl.com/62ajmw <br> This Time Bandits map would look nice next to that. I love these sorts of things.
-
Summer Glau for one night. Worth an entire savings account!
-
So they are making up the planet names now that the show is past, done with, and key tossed into the toilet. Just like Star Wars... the background aliens that show up for a second of screentime, then get a whole backstory and name when the toy comes out "to collect em all!"
-
And will take Inara over Summer Glau any day!
-
Contrary to what JJ Binks might say (and how can you seriously trust someone with THAT abomination in his screen name?!), I think Summer Glau is a VERY good actress. JJ Binks obviously thinks it's easy to portray emotion in an EMOTIONLESS face, which her major appearances so far have necessitated. It's all in the eyes and isn't that what all the so-called "good" actors do? She's had the misfortune to be somewhat typecast, but soon someone will offer her a decent role to sink her teeth into and then you'll see...<br><br>EriamJH is right, though. In the drool stakes, it's Inara all the way.<br><br>Don't care about this poster, though...
-
Most definitely! Hell Kaylee > River even!
-
He prefers someone that can keep his face pushed into a pillow snugly. What a stupid screenname anyway. Jar-Jar jokes are old-old and not funny-funny.
-
Maybe people without business acumen?, hello!!, you could have been selling 2 posters, not 1 that is only ever going to be half effective.<P>Sweet art though making it for a dead show makes me sad, lets all boycott buying licensed products for Firefly and Serenity until the PTB start making the show again.
-
That is soooooooo cool. I'm a teacher and want to put this in my classroom.

That's like the "map" for the Star Wars universe . . .
by SkidMarkedUndies
that they put in front of the novels. BUT MUCH COOLER. Thanks for this Herc. I have much deliberation ahead of me. We are in a recession you know.
-
Let me get this straight: $35+ for a 2-sided poster that should be 1 whole poster? I'm a Whedon fanatic, and I'll bet that he had nothing to do with this at all. Someone will post it on the Net, and everyone who wants it will download it for free. This is greed on steroids!
-
I'll hang it on my wife!
-
Kids are stupid enough already. We don't need them spouting off non existent planets from a dead, mediocre, TV show.
-
Yes, it's beautiful. Who wants to be reminded of our loss? Now if this was a map of the STARGATE universe, I'd be all over it like bronze on a doorknob.
-
Someone had a link to this before - that tops the list I think.
-
but the fact that all the "alien planets" were actually 2 miles outside of LA with nothing done to disguise this fact was entirely too distracting. And budget is not an excuse, many films have found creative ways around these types of problems - and California has a pretty diverse landscape - u can at least go to Joshua Tree or something!
-
And why is this thing supposed to be beautiful again? It's just a stupid solar system map. Who gives a fuck? Not me. Consider me one non-fan who wonders what the hell you were thinking with that headline.
-
I'd give my left nut for one of these, but the link given earlier is dead. Anyone know how I can get one?

Why not have a poster of Joss Whedon's ass on your wall
by MattmanReturns
So you can lick it.
-
Then it is like a folded roadmap of The 'Verse. The kind that you might keep next to your pilot station, when you are flying your Firely-class Boat.<p> You know--For Geeks...
-
and I'm definitely not a fan. Then again, I wouldn't buy it either.
-
And their hating little posts...honestly, if you don't like the poster, or Whedon, or Firefly, or Serenity, why waste your time posting and looking like whiny little bitches? Oh, sorry...I guess you didn't know you look like whiny little bitches...

where's Tatooine? coz if there's a bright center to the universe
by Maniaq
it's at the farthest point from it, right? <p> actually, it's not a map but THIS is pretty cool too: <p> http://tinyurl.com/2f5aty <p> it's a starship size comparison chart - obviously TO SCALE - I didn't see a Firefly on there but there are lots of cool comparisons, including actual REAL um... ships... from modern day
-
Its a shame it got killed because it was really great. Oh well.
-
wont say its as good as the movies on the format but its definately as nice as HD television. well except some of the dark scenes but considering the show is 6yrs old and wasnt shot for HD, its expected but yeah.
-
Is the greatest looking female on the face of the Earth.
-
Thanks for the link to the very cool ship comparison chart. I'm glad they included the Lexx. Was hoping they'd include the Asimov from B-5, and others. Too many ships to include them all...
-
http://www.metropolisgrafix.com/html/TB.html <br> <br> Don't forget to remove spaces with in the linkage. Looks like a decent replica. Man I may have to plunker down and purchase that as my own Christmas gift. <br> <br> If aintitcool didn't challenge the "Verse" map I would have never searched for it. I mean the Verse mape is cool, but I'd say this blows it away. Especially since it's on canvas. <br> <br> "Oh, so that's what an invisible barrier looks like."

It's dead. Move on. Or don't - it's your preference
by performingmonkey
B5, another show that mostly sucked apart from a handful of episodes and yet I constantly see people masturbating over it. Give me a fucking break, it was lame.
-
... hearing grown actors say retarded slang-shit like "the 'verse" gives me pause to wonder again why I'm watching the thing
-
I hate Whedonese too - the man is so fucking full of his own cleverness - why does EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER have to be so freaking witty??
-
Suck it, haters.
-
Who needs those?
-
wouldnt it be swell? then we could actually see that tatooine and naboo are way out on the outer rim... and coruscant is near the center of the galaxy. and yes ive seen some shitty versions.... so dont point those out when you go and google it.
-
not interesting to this non-fan. Why should it be?

"So Completely Gorgeous Even Non-Fans May Be Tempted To Purchase
by kiddae
Hell, I'm a "fan" and I don't want this ugly hunk of junk.
-
Dude, I used to think the same thing about Summer Glau. But, if you ever meet her in person, you will change your tune. They ugly her up for the psychotic roles she plays, but she is smoking hot in the real world.
-
Towards the lower right, there's two ships from the 2001 universe that are missing. Is this thing not done yet?
-
Wait... "'Verse" is witty? <p>Silly me, I just thought it was an attempt to build a fictional culture.
-
I'm a HUGE Firefly fan... it's one of my favorite shows. Nix that... it IS my favorite show. <p>But I would not buy this. $36??? For a poster??? It's not even really that pretty, much less beautiful. And why on Earth would a non-fan even look at it, much less buy it? "Oh, gee, look, an overpriced poster of a bunch of non-existent planets from a show I've either never seen or watched and hated."
-
I'm a non fan and I wouldn't buy this. Not for $36 dollars. Hell, I wouldn't put it on my wall if you paid me $36 dollars.
-
I don't know if this point has been raised already, but I'm not going to bother to go back and read it all-- How the fuck can you even have a map of space? Seriously. A universe exists in three dimensions. A map is a two-dimensional representation. Wouldn't there necessarily be some overlap on the XYZ-axises? I especially think it's kinda rude and presumptuous to gush about how "Non-Fans" might want to buy this thing. There's a reason us non-fans aren't fans of "Firefly"-- WE THINK THAT IT'S BAD.
-
http://media.maps.com/magellan/images/solar1.gif Wow. Amazing.
-
You won't give us a Supernatural talkback, but you waste our time with this?
-
or even some TV movies on Sci-Fi instead of all that monster crap they run ad naseum
-
...space is flat. That explains a lot. Never been Whedonized anyway. And never will. -
-
Showing planetary bodies in this flat map style format is perfectly acceptable. I’ll bet every science text book you ever had in school had a diagram of the planets, in our own solar system, displayed in the exact same fashion. Getting upset at this poster for being flat is just as ridiculous as getting upset that the map in your glove box for not being round with raised mountains.
-
Mrs. Reynolds is worth going to the Special Hell.
-
That's the thing, though-- even though the planets in our system orbit along different axises (axes?), we can all understand that they rotate around the same body, and can therefore be shown in non-realistic juxtoposition. Flat space just doesn't translate to a galactic scale, however, and I really wonder what the use of this sort of thing is supposed to be. Flat-space depictions of our solar system are there as educational diagrams, basically just outlining the order of the planets. It wouldn't work as a map, however, because it wouldn't really tell you anything about their orbital patterns, timelines, exact positions, etc. A flat-space map is absolutely worthless as a navigational tool, so it really wouldn't make much sense to create an in-verse map of "The Verse". I mean, honestly-- how is somebody supposed to find their way through space with that? The only excuse it has, really, is as a gimmicky piece of merchandise, but if something this lazy were actually used in the show-- oh, sweet baby Jesus, it'd be stupid...
-
Well, you are right when you say this is simply a piece of merchandise designed for the fans, but I disagree with your thoughts that this is stupid since, when viewed from the context of the series, it would be worthless for navigation. If this particular map did exist inside the Firefly series I doubt it would be used for navigation at all. It would be probably used for the same kind of things we use our solar system maps for. If I understand your argument correctly you feel that 2D maps of our solar system are ok because, our solar system is simple and that this fictional star system is way to complex to be shown this way. I do agree that if the star cluster known as the Verse was real it would most likely be too complicated to accurately depict in 2D, but I don't think it would be any more or less accurate (or useless) than the 2D maps of our solar system. Like you say, "Flat-space depictions of our solar system are there as educational diagrams, basically just outlining the order of the planets". If our own maps are too inaccurate to do more than that how could a map of something more complex be held to higher standards? If it won't work for 8 planets who would expect it to work for 200. Our maps are use for simple things and I don't know why you assume that this map would be used for any thing else. Earth's astronaut do not look at maps when they miss the left turn on the way to Mars and neither do the characters in Firefly. If the Verse were a real place I think the inhabitants would view a map like this in the same fashion as we view maps our solar system. Simply as a way of visually displaying the general order of nearby planets and stars, not a as a navigational tool. I feel that the people of the Verse would understand the nonrealistic juxtaposition of this map just as you and I understand ours.
