Mitch Hurwitz’ Deal Closes For ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT: THE MOTION PICTURE??

Published at:  Nov 21, 2008 2:58:47 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

“Arrested Development” mastermind Mitch Hurwitz has reportedly closed a deal to write and direct a big-screen version of the sitcom “Arrested Development” for Fox Searchlight.

For those unfamiliar, the TV show followed a wacky family of real estate developers.

No word yet on whether the project will be able to lure back big-deal movie star Michael Cera (“Superbad,” “Juno”), who played George Michael Bluth.

Find all of The Hollywood Reporter’s story on the matter here.

I loved this show. The entire cast was amazing and it was very cleverly written. But where would a film take us. Would it resolve the whole scenario with george Sr.?

    by thrillho77

You can't do it without George Michael. You can't do it without ANY of them. One of the few shows where absolutely no one in the principle cast is expendable.

I expect copious Barry Zuckercorn, Stan Sitwell, and an appearance from J. Walter Weatherman.

people are all worried that michael cera and even jason bateman have become too big of stars, but hell, it's only a good thing if the studios pay them a bit more to exploit their names to get people into the theatres. I want this to be as successful as possible.

Every time Mitch Hurwitz mentioned this I thought he was just blowing smoke up the collective ass of our's. I love the show, but I just can't imagine an executive somewhere--ANYWHERE--saying "This smells like money!"

Hell, maybe Brian Fuller will get that Pushing Daisys movie. And next year HBO will produce a new season of Deadwood. Well, maybe the first.

I don't get the people who don't see how this could work as a movie. The humor in the series is so layered, I actually think the longer format could serve it better than tv. I wonder if it'll pick up right at the end of the series, with Lucille in prison...

But it'd be hard to imagine him even considering passing if the script is good. But he's being the political version of all the worst talkbackers -- are they just going to fuck it up? I don't think he actively DOESN'T want to make the movie.
