CW Cancels MRC Sundays!! Will Substitute Repeats Of JERICHO And DREW CAREY SHOW!!

Published at:  Nov 20, 2008 3:31:53 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

The CW is dumping all of its MRC Sunday-night shows, including “In Harm’s Way,” “Valentine” and “Easy Money,” in favor of old movies and repeats of “Jericho” and “The Drew Carey Show.”

The decision was detailed in a Thursday memo from CW COO John Maatta to affiliates:

“As you know, to focus our efforts on the earlier part of the week, we entered into a time buy agreement with an outside supplier to program Sunday night. While this move has clearly paid dividends for the overall schedule, the results on Sunday night have been below expectations. The MRC shows are simply not working. To that end, we have made a business and programming decision to protect our network and your local interests on Sunday for the remainder of the season.”

Now WPIX can go back to being "New York's Movie Station"...

    by mr. profit

I remember being a kid and growing up watching Channel 11 on Saturday and Sunday and being entertained by the movies they played. And then when "Shocktober" rolled along I was even happier because I love horror films. Now that MRC isn't programming on Sunday, maybe the local affiliates can go back to regaining control.

Reruns? Why not bring back Reaper early and commission a few more scripts to get through the season.

    Jericho

    by don lockwood

That's an interesting decision considering the lack of ratings that Jericho got on a full-fledged network. If they wanted to go back to the vault to show something, why not pick repeats of a previously-successful show?

Any tri-state folks here that remember the "video game" WPIX had on in the afternoons during their commercial breaks that you could call into the channel and play on air? PIX! PIX!

Jericho Should Have Moved To CW

    by fedrich519

and stayed on the air for first run episodes. Instead, it gets canceled to make room for Viva Laughlin.

I remember those pix games. It was essentially an Intellivision game being played by someone in the studio, and when the caller wanted to fire he would say 'PIX' and the guy in the studio would press the button. Needless to say there was often a lag, but I always loved watching that crap. PIX used to be the coolest station in New York. Repeats of Abbot and Costello on Sunday mornings, the Three Stooges, Honeymooners and Odd Couple at 11pm...ahh memories. I would love it if they went old school.

I am from Albany and we got cable in 1978 and all through my childhood we had 5, 9, and 11 from NY (as well as 38 from Boston) on our cable box.

I totally remember. Those kids had no timing. It was just pixpixpixpixpix.

So they essentially farmed out an entire night to an outside production company, presumably to go cheap, and still can't make it work? Jericho must be *really* cheap in syndication.

    WPIX

    by phimseto

Hear, hear for the liberation of WPIX. For that matter, WLVI 56 and TV38 in Boston both need saving, too. All three of those stations, along with the "'Yor: Hunter from the Future" on endless repeat'" WWOR in New Jersey were the greatest stations growing up. TV38 had the fantastic Movie Loft and of course WLVI had the legendary Saturday afternoon "Creature Double Feature".

Though in WPIX's defense, it's my understanding that they've brought the Yule Log back. Hopefully whoever took it off the air to begin with is roasting on a yule log in hell as we speak.

    Valentine?

    by gislef_crow

Sounded kinda lame and skipped it. Actually watched the last episode, though, and it seemed mildly interesting. Haephaestus and Ares scheming against each other, Aphrodite trying to get a divorce, Eros with a semi-automatic version of his bow & arrows, hints of some Big Bad with a god-killing sword... The actual romance/A plot was blehh, although it had David Burke (The Tick - Mothman) in it with a pretty skanky ex. I'd probably have actually tuned in for another episode. Now, if only they had a decent name for it: what does "Valentine" have to do with Greek gods? Although I suppose most other titles might have sounded like an extended sodomy joke.
