CRANK Boys Won’t Direct DC Comics' JONAH HEX!!

Published at:  Nov 20, 2008 12:17:42 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

“Crank” writer-directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who wrote a script for a big-screen version of DC Comics’ “Jonah Hex,” will not direct the project after all, departing over creative differences.

“No Country For Old Men” star Josh Brolin is still expected to play the disfigured bounty hunter in the movie, slated to start shooting in spring.

    by seanpb

jonah hex was in an episode of BTAS wasnt he? the one where ras al ghul is plying his trade in the old west, and jonah is commissioned to bring in a character that ends up being ra's son. and after being told the story via tape by ra's in the end batman lets ra's and his son go because he wasnt actually commiting a crime or somesuch...if thats the one im thinking about it was a pretty good ep, the way it unfolded and all.

i thought there was a post a month or so back where he was quoted saying he hasn't talked to anyone about this movie. i would say that brolin is still a rumor until anything is officially announced.

    by tallboy66

How could a movie so juiced up be so meh? Well, that's it's fault right there- it tries so hard to be WHIIZZ-BANGGG for 2 hrs or so that you just kind of shrug and remain unimpressed. Had it's moments, though. I liked when the main dude made his final phone call falling to his death.

This is the project John Carpenter should be on!

    by the reluctant austinite

We were talking about John Carpenter the other day. Half of his great projects are westerns in disguise, but he's never directed an honest-to-god western. I think he could bring an old school cool to this project that would fit the character and overall context. Screw the new kids on the block. This film needs a touch of grim old school cool.

I second (or third or fourth) Carpenter

    by i_am_not_the_droid_you_are_looking_for

Brolin has a bit of a Kurt-esque way about him and I was actually thinking the other day that Carpenter should make a western. They're pretty cheap to make and as the austinite said, he's basically been making westerns in disguise. Jonah Hex is the come-back Carpenter flick. Make it so.

    I agree with Tallboy

    by vern

I got no problem with the ridiculousness, that's what it's got going for it. I did like a few parts and I liked the premise. But they have this inherently exciting premise and then hit you over the head with all kinds of unnecessary editing and camera gimmicks that wear you out and ruin any chance of momentum. I also think that "I'm so politically incorrect I will have a rape scene played for laughs" attitude is overrated too. It doesn't really mean you're edgy, it just means you're an asshole. Plus I saw an interview with those two and they mostly just made gay jokes and grinned proudly about the hilarious dudes they mistook themselves for.
As for Carpenter, he doesn't really need to make a western, because most of the movies he's made are "really a western" according to him. But sure, give him some hats and horses and get it over with.

    Crank was awesome

    by jccalhoun

Crank was a great film. I agree the near-rape scene was bad. I haven't seen them in interviews but I wouldn't be surprised if they were jackasses. However, Crank is a triumph of style over substance and I mean that in a good way. I can't wait for the sequel.

Now lets get some real talent for this film. Everybody is mentioning John Carpenter, but what about the guy who did the remake to Assault on Precinct 13. That remake wasn't half bad. It at least showed some potential.
