Has ABC Plucked PUSHING DAISIES??

Published at:  Nov 13, 2008 3:38:30 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

“Pushing Daisies” today wraps production on episode 2.13, the last episode ordered by ABC. Will ABC order more?

From TV Week:

According to industry sources familiar with the situation, ABC has decided not to produce any more episodes of the critically beloved show this season. Word of the show's apparent death began spreading around Hollywood Thursday morning, though an ABC spokeswoman insisted no decision has been made on the show's fate.

It’s especially disappointing speculation considering ABC could have easily formed an all sci-fi Wednesday night. The network has already scheduled “Lost” for 9 p.m. and “Life on Mars” for 10 p.m. that night. “Daisies” currently airs 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

The good news is series mastermind Bryan Fuller says he’s sufficiently invested in the project to finish telling the tale of Ned, Chuck, Emerson and Olive via funnybook and maybe a movie if this really is the end.

On the other hand, I think this show was too good to last. It'll be far more beloved as a Twin Peaks or Firefly-like phenomenon than if it had marched on for years. Still, I'll miss the show terribly. Not even the promise of Fuller "saving Heroes" can mitigate that.

hey, I love Pushing Daisies but i'd hesitate to call it scifi...

if it's true that it's been canned, though, then i at least hope Fuller is able to pull a Serenity - there's gotta be a studio with brains enough to back this.

Unfortunately I couldn't even blame them for cancelling it.

    by derlanghaarige

Yes, it's a wonderful and innovative show and I wish it would go on at least 5 more years, but from what I've heard it's way too expensive. And since it never became a prestige project like Lost, they got no reason to pour more money into it than the ratings are justifying.
I got no idea if this makes gramatically sense, but it's late here and I got a headache.

I watch will be Lost and Life on Mars (and I'm still not 100% sold on Mars). Of course I hate ABC and their fraudulent ratings scheme of running shows long so that at 9:00 or 10:00 the ratings reflect the audience for the show that is just ending combined with the audience who just tuned in for the show about to start.

  • I wonder if ABC is trying to save money for their Thanksgiving party this year and are putting out rumours of Daisies being cancelled in the hopes that people will send in pies in protest.I bet there is some executive looking to create a show containing something he wants that fans will latch onto as a symbol of the show and send it to him when the show gets cancelled. Creating a show in order to cancel it just to get free stuff. Maybe a show where the main character does drugs and frequents hookers. Then, when it is cancelled the exec would be sent drugs and hookers. Every execs. dream! I bet Fox execs are kicking themselves for not cancelling House.

    Narrator: "The facts are these"

    by erichaislar

Production has started on the 13th episode, and the producers have also been told by ABC to "put in a possible series wrap-up at the end of the [13th] episode before the mid-season break."

The rest of the 9 episodes have not been picked up yet by ABC and a decision will be made in the next few weeks. But it doesn't look good. Ratings have been lower than last year and the show had been struggling in competition with other channels. And a lot of people are worried and even resigned to the fact that Pushing Daisies will be dropped permanently.

Also, finally Bryan Fuller has been speculated to return to Heroes following the departure of Jeph Loebs and Jesse Alexander. And Fuller has confirmed that if ABC decides not to back Pushing Daisies any longer then he will "definitely be going back to play with [his] friends at Heroes."

In my opinion, ABC will see how future ratings of PD will play out over the next few weeks and this is when they will make their final judgement. So get as many folks out there watching the next episode on Wednesday 19th November!!

Daisies Lost Mars Wednesdays would've rocked

    by napoleon park

A Daisies/Lost/Mars Wednesdays triple feature would've rocked. But if the rumors are true and a post Daisies Bryan Fuller returns to "Heroes" to fill the gap left by Jeph Loeb and the other fired guy on that show and the next arc, "Fugitives", marks a character driven series relaunch, a Chuck/Heroes/Medium triple feature could rule. Now that "My Own Worst Enemy" has been given the axe.As it is, House/Fringe/Eli Stone is the happiest night of the week, for me. Your actual happy may differ.

It needs more over arching plots and to grow out of its "mystery of the week" plotting. Do something crazy with the show, let Ned accidently bring someone else back to life permanantly and have them be some fucked up criminal or maybe we find out someone else has the same power as ned, or is he a one off? What about if someone finds out about his power, what happens if the government found out? Would he be taken for testing? Would people come to him thinking he was a messiah? Etc.

Youcan translate a show like "Pushing Daisies" into a comic book. It looses a lot of the color and spirit.
Here's an idea, give Bryan four to six more hours to complete whatever he wanted to do, call it a fantasy mini-series, and wrap it up.
But first, let's start sending pies to ABC, and the worse-tasting the filling, the better.

"Asked by DosSantos if there was "any chance of a loophole" that would allow Ned and Chuck to touch (if you don't know why that's a problem, the Daily Blink is amazed you've read this far), Fuller responded incredulously, "Like during an eclipse?" He explained, "I think it's more fun to see the characters overcome an obstacle than to have the obstacle disappear," and enumerated some of the creative ways that obstacle has been surmounted thus far. The show is really only 3/4ths of the way through one season because of the writer's strike, and it was already exploring larger story arcs (like what's the deal with Ned's dad's friend?). Given proper time to grow, I really believe this show would've done great overarching narratives in addition to fantastically creative (and wonderfully morbid) weekly mysteries. The strike really did kill this show, as it had good numbers going into the break. Heroes doesn't deserve such a great writer. And I love the eclipse comment. Awesome.

I miss the days when they'd let them finish out the season

    by _maltheus_

I have no interest in comic books and they'd only need a few episodes to tie things up. They use to notify the showrunners that this was there last season. Now they just stop showing things (even if they have more eps in the can) the second they decide they won't renew it. They already have the advertisers locked in for the year, don't they? Just let the season play out.

    Don't Cancel Eli Stone

    by crow3711

Also, or I'll flip the fuck up. These are the only two happy, feel good shows on tv that don't suck total nutsack. They actually make me happy. I can live without Daisies I think (the formula is getting repititive, but still highly entertaining) but Eli Stone really makes me feel good, and I desperately don't want it to be axed. And as far as all you fools jerking off oer Fuller returning to Heroes, its not like one guy can save a burning, fiery trainwreck. One can't write a whole season, he'll write like two episodes. And his episodes can only be as good as the situations and storylines Kring, etc give him. Which, needless to say, was strong in season one, so his episodes were strong. But now...Jesus H...the man will not save that terrible fucking show. Possibly the worst season of any show I've ever seen. I honestly feel like someone with Cerebal Palsy is writing the plots.

But instead of touching the show after the minute is up, he can just leave it alive and another show will die. I'm pretty much OK with anything else on network TV right now (note: not Lost or Dexter) biting it so this show can live. With all this Heroes talk...

Pushing Daisies sucks and although I've never watched the show but I know that it sucks because Herc likes it. I use Herc as an inverse TV critic. If he likes a show I know that I will not and if he doesn't there's a pretty good chance I will.

    by 24200124

This just goes to show that originality, creativity and hard work go unrewarded... Just because middle America doesn't like it because they think it's "gay because of all them colors" doesn't mean that a smarter, more open-minded non-middle America doesn't like it. THE NIELSENS DON'T REPRESENT ME. Is it just me, or does everything coming out of Hollywood seem to sacrifice creativity for shallow-minded remakes and "reimaginings"? Fuck this bullshit.

"Pushing Daisies sucks and although I've never watched the show"... just because someone else likes something means it sucks? How enlightening! By that rationale, the Koran must suck, 'cause I've never read it. Baked Alaska must taste like shit, 'cause I've never eaten it. Climbing a mountain must suck, 'cause I've never done it. Oh, and sex must be terrible for you, 'cause you obviously have never had one tiny bit of it. Frustrated much?

Stop Saying It's Good For Heroes

    by crow3711

One man can not stop the sinking of the Titanic. First off, even if he is such an amazing writer, it's not like the current storyline is Heroes is good enough to even produce an interesting episode, and second, ONE EPISODE can not save an entire show. It's not like the guy is going to write every episode next season or anything. One or two. Get a fucking grip. Heroes sucks dick.

i would have ned help emerson solve a big cae that makes him rich. In return, emerson uses some of the money to see if ned and chuck can have kids through invetro fertilization. It works they have a kid fast forwrd to chuck holding one kids hand and ned holding the other hand as they walk. happy ending

from tvguide: Over at ABC, though Pushing Daisies on Thursday night wrapped production on the 13th and final ordered episode of its second season, series creator Bryan Fuller is holding out hope that Stephen McPherson will "touch" the acclaimed series back to life. "Our ABC exec was on the set last night saying they are still swinging in the fight to keep Daisies on the air," Fuller tells the Reporter. "Spirits are high and hopeful and everyone here is very proud of our work and this show."

but Futon Critic has a tenative schedule up that is supposed to released next week for mid-season and PD is being replaced by Scrubs & The Goode family. At the end of the article it does say that they still aren't sure about next season but networks also say bull happy shit like that when fans are worked up.

I don't care if its a Fuck You to ABC, all I'm saying is that one writer can not save "the problem" of an entire show. It just won't happen. Therefore it isn't good for Heroes, therefore, stop saying it is.

PD didn't spend enough time with the primary characters and that weird relationship/situation. I don't care if the cleavage blond goes to a nunnery. The aunts/mom are not that interesting.
