Chris Elliott’s Daughter Joins Cast Of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!

Published at:  Nov 13, 2008 4:48:47 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Abby Elliott, granddaughter of comedy great Bob Elliott (of Bob & Ray fame) and daughter of comedy great and former SNL cast member Chris Elliott (“Get A Life,” “Cabin Boy”), has joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” She’s lent her voice to both “King of the Hill” and Mike Judge’s upcoming ABC series “The Goode Family” and has performed improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

Also joining the SNL cast is Michaela Watkins (“The New Adventures of Old Christine”). She comes out of The Groundlings, the same Los Angeles improv outfit that produced Laraine Newman, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Jan Hooks, Julia Sweeney, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer, Chris Parnell, Chris Kattan, Will Forte and Kristen Wiig.

Paul Rudd hosts the first new post-election SNL this weekend with musical guest Beyonce.

In LA, Second City and IO are about two blocks from each other, and UCB is five minutes away on Franklin next to the Pig (a coffeehouse). Lots of improvers float back and forth between the three locations, sometimes on the same night. Some students from those schools also float over to the Groundlings, Bang, Westside Eclectic....

    Tron re:Reubens

    by bloo

first of all thanks to the podosphere for the information on the LA improv scene, I wasn't sure how that all worked.Tron, Reubans was a Groundling but there has been a lot of controversy about his tenure there, when he hit it big with Pee Wee, he made big promises to his Groundling friends that he didn't follow up on, as well as some accusations that he had quite a bit of help in creating Pee Wee from other groundlings (namely Hartman who wrote the first film with Reubens). I'm not sure how much is true or even if I got all the facts right, but there is some bad blood between them. I'm assuming that's why he wasn't mentioned, either that or Herc was just mentioning SNL Groundling alums

    Paul Reubens @ The Groundlings

    by forrest75

I saw a show about 6 years ago at the Groundlings where Reubens was a special guest and he was outstanding. I'm guessing any bad blood has since been washed away. I'm always wary of new "SNL" castmembers, they either have to prove themselves or get fired fast to win my love.

Anybody else read Live from New York? Chris Elliot and Janeane Garofalo bashed the hell out of SNL in it. Wonder what he thinks about his daughter signing on (and I wonder how amused/apprehensive Lorne Michaels is about it).

I hope she is as good as her father was on SNL

    by tvguy4566

Remember Chris Elliot's spectacular year as an SNL regular in 1994? Some of his bits are classics like.... and... ummmmm..... and let's not forget......
Basically, if she appears in one sketch in a skimpy outfit, her SNL tenure will be far more memorable than her father's.
On a side note, that 1994 cast was a whole host of misued talent that included Elliot, Jay Mohr, Laura Kightlinger, Janeane Garrafalo, Michael McKeon, and Mark McKinney.

SNL is variable (mediocre/terrible)...30 ROCK registers zip on the Nielson scale (less than 8 million viewers, 3rd or 4th in its time slot). Chris Elliot's daughter evokes her Dad; equally variable.

I am hoping for a Conspiracy Girl skit.

    by leafar the lost

My favorite bit that Chris Elliot did on David Letterman was Conspiracy Guy. "You know who I am," he would tell a clueless Letterman. Then he would go into a crazy rant, and he would be taken away by two men in sun glasses. Elliot was once very funny, but he lost his comedic edge years ago. I don't plan on watching SNL again anytime soon.

SNL! SNL! Lemme guess, an opening involving politics, an unimaginative ad involving sexual inneundo, andy samberg doing something ironic involving pseudo homoeroticism, and Kristen Wiig doing something genius the show doesn't deserve. Oh yeah and Fred Armisen showing up in every sketch generating negative laughs. Love it!

Michaela Watkins was the old lady who slit her own throat in the short. She might also have been "passerby #3" in a later sketch. They both appeared at curtain call, which would have been tough to spot if some of the cast hadn't been literally pointing them out.
