Claimjumper reports on SCREAM 3 again

Published at:  Jul 03, 1999 9:32:00 AM CDT

Alright folks, here's the latest from our man from the inside on SCREAM 3. The news this past week of Parker Posey... well, it got me reinterested in the franchise. You see... for me, SCREAM 2 killed the franchise with Randy... but... well, perhaps things are beginning to look interesting. Maybe just a little...

Claimjumper here. I've mined some more news and thought I'd share some of
the haul. Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox were in the production office
today. There was a read-through in preparation for Tuesday's location shoot.
The complete script is out and printed on the standard "no copy/no fax"
paper. As of this posting, it doesn't reveal who the killer is. Instead, at
the point in the script where the mask is pulled off, the killer's lines are
simply designated by KILLER, rather than a character name.

I'd dug up a separate report at the beginning of the week that would've gone
real nice with the string of "Randy" Talkbacks. Unfortunately, I left my
laptop outside the mine, dagnabbit. Anyway, seems ol' man Craven has been on
the horn with Jamie Kennedy quite a bit in the past few weeks. No word on
what's in store but it should give y'all something to chew on...

Now I gotta skin outta here and catch up with Number 7.

Claimjumper out.

Harry here again, and I just wanted to drop you this bit of possible casting news... check it out... This one is mega cool. Corman is a god.

Harry,
been a fan of the site for a while but this is my first time with a scoop.
Actually, it's just a small little interesting tidbit on Scream 3. I was in
France a week or so ago, and I talked to a certain source who had recently
spoken with Roger Corman. Seems that Corman will not only play a part in the
production of the upcoming conclusion to the series, but he will also "be in
the film." Just thought you'd like to know if you didn't already.

Keyser.

Harry here, and that is what we call a RUMOR. It isn't confirmed just yet. So, keep your fingers crossed, most likely this is just a cameo like his role in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but maybe Roger Corman is the KILLER!!!! That'd rock! Just kidding... No I'm not. Heh heh heh

I knwo who the killer SHOULD be- Kev planted plenty of clues in the first two movies. But what with Neve bailing early (if she does), a new writer, etc., who knows if it'll happen. Wes Craven's New Nightmare, uh, I mean, Scream 3

    by sardonicus

Is Wes going for another tongue-in-cheek romp through the Hollywood system with Scream 3, much as he did (and on a grander scale) with New Nightmare? Very much looking forward to hearing more about this one (Harry, I hope you're doing your best to keep Claimjumper happy, nudge, nudge). As for Jamie Kennedy coming back, could it be that Randy aided the killers in 1 and 2 and is now revealed as the big kahunna behind it all, having engineered his phony death in 2 (inside a TV production van, no less, where illusion may be created at will)? Mmm...Plus, anybody that pays honor to Roger Corman by adding him to the cast in a bit part gets my vote for That Which Is Cool. Corman paved a road that, unfortunately, is in sad disrepair these days, given that it is so difficult for new filmmakers to get the same kind of break as Corman gave to Coppola, Scorsese, Demme, Dante...The only guy who comes close these days is John Pierson (also very cool).

    DIE KEVIN WILLIAMSON DIE!!!

    by nihilon

I hope KW has saved up some of his Scream money and built himself a nice little nest-egg, cause after this summer, with the Blair Witch Project and Stir of Echoes and hopefully some others, real horror movies will finally be back, and his crappy oh-im-so-clever pseudo-horror-comedy bullshit will be gone once and for all. Its about time these shitty movies got wiped away for good. Even tho i liked the first Scream, its funny how every other Scream ripoff film since, including Scream 2 and im sure Scream 3 as well, has become more and more like the films the original Scream was parodying.

We are talking Roger Corman, king of the cheapskates as far as film production is concerned, are we not ?

Why would he be considered a god ?

    Roger Corman

    by w. leach

Usually when Roger Corman appears in a movie (cameo role), he's doing it because a former protegee asked him to. For instance, Corman appeared in THE GODFATHER PART II directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola started his career with Corman in the early 1960s, directing a few scenes in Corman's THE TERROR, and directing the Corman-esque DEMENTIA 13. Corman did a cameo in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS directed by Jonathan Demme, who got his start working for Corman, directing woman in prison movies in the 1970s. Corman appeared in APOLLO 13, directed by Ron Howard. Howard made his directorial debut with GRAND THEFT AUTO, a Corman production. I'm not sure if Wes Craven is a Corman protegee, though...and yeah, Roger Corman is one of my favorite directors. In addition to giving countless actors, writers, directors, and producers their start in the business, Corman also directed a slew of great low budget films such as ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, A BUCKET OF BLOOD, THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, THE ST. VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE, VON RICHTOFEN AND BROWN, and of course the Vincent Price/Edgar Alan Poe adaptations of the early 1960s. Corman's directorial style is legendary (shooting most movies within a week, etc.), but despite their low budgets, many of them are still enjoyable today, mostly due to their screenplays (especially the ones written by Charles B. Griffith), and the unofficial Corman stable of actors (Dick Miller, Jack Nicholson, Jonathan Haze, Beverly Garland, etc.)

    by kroenen

I don't care how many Great actors and directors career Corman helped start he is just plain awful. Give him a acting cameo but keep him away from the production. The man isn't even qualified enough to be a hack.

And Harry, will you (and everybody else) quit being a pussy about Randy getting killed. Jeez, you sound like a baby....

Screw Roger Corman! YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

    by uncapie

Listen, the only thing Roger has going for him is the people surrounding him! Look at "Masque of the Red Death" or any of the Poe movies. It was the people around Roger that made him. Writer Chuck Griffith, D.P. Floyd Crosby, Vincent Price, Karloff, Lorre the list is endless! Roger was good at one thing...exploiting people's talents and making money! Roger does cameos in people's movies to also keep up his S.A.G. health and medical benifits and because he gets PAID not as a favor! HE HAS MORE MONEY THAN GOD, BUT HE CAN'T

ENJOY IT! His wife, Julie is a BITCH! His kids hate him! Gale Hunnicut or Beverly Garland should have married this guy and he would have been a better man! "How I Made A Hundred Movies and Never Lost A Dime"...that's not true! He lost money on "Gassssssss" an "Von

Richtoven and Brown". "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" look at the backgound sometime and see the MOUNTAINS OF CHICAGO! Roger is a God? Compared to Hitchcock, Ford, Wise, Hawks?!!! Roger is a "schlockmeister" and he is the best there is! He is a God at making money and exploitation of movies and people. He tried to backdoor Sam Arkoff on "Premature Burial" and thirty years later got "backdoored" by Mike"I'm your friend" Elliot himself when he set up a dummy company and sold Roger back his own film stock! Roger could give two shits and a fuck if you wanted him to be in a film unless there was money involved. He'd do a Todd Sheets movie if the price is right! He is not Oliver, Richard Burton or a God. He is a man just like any other man who took advanage of a situation and knew how to make money from it. I don't see any of Roger's former proteges coming back to do movies for him. If you have talent, you springboard from Roger and keep running. Don't look back. Check out "Orpheus". No talent hacks like Jim Wynorski are desitined to live in that shithole and best of luck to 'em! Alan Siritsky was shooting "Butterscotch" and the "Click" down there at the lumber yard which were softcore pornos. Showtime reneged on a deal for "Black Scorpion the Series" because it was soooooo bad! What sums it up about Roger is the scene in "The Howling" where he fishes in the coin return of the telephone booth. That's him all the way!

YES, IT IS TRUE! THE TRUTH IS HERE! I AM A TERRIBLE GOD!

    by uncapie

Not only one, but SEVERAL PEOPLE have sued Corman's company for not paying them and settle out for a lower fee tha what they were offered! Most recently, a pile of animated crap called "Aladdin and the Adventures Of All Time" was made. Two years in the animators slave trade went into this heap! The woman who did the music had to take Corman's company to court because the music supervisor refused to pay her after she scored the entire film! The supervisor said that they couldn't sell the overseas rights because the music mad the film look bad, but the animation sucks so much that it makes "South Park" look like "Akira"! They finally gave her a settlement and she had her name on the credits as well, but instead of the top four figures they agreed to pay her, she had to settle for a low three figures after attorney's fees! And Roger laughs and laughs to the bank as he lives off the flesh of young, nubile filmakers!

    THE MEN BEHIND THE MASK

    by mr_ripley

I loved "Scream" (because of the 1st twenty min) and liked "Scream 2", lame ending and all. I think Dimension did a disservice to the first movie by cranking out sequels, which could never be as fresh as the original. This flirtation with spoofing and self-reference was never quite successful in the first. It was pointless in the second. And now in "Scream 3" it's going to be as muddled and retarded as "Wes Craven's New Nightmare". (Heather Lankencamp AS Heather Lankencamp! Now that's a stretch, at least it seemed like it was for her.) Since everyone is SOOOOO pissed off about Jamie Kennedy getting the knife in "Scream 2" (which I liked, it was the only surprise of the film) it will probably be Jamie Kennedy THE ACTOR doing the murders this time. Or maybe he'll play the heroine addict huslter character he played in "As Good As It Gets". Just a thought.

Randy surely ought to be the killer, and here's why...

    by martin q blank

All the pieces are in place. In Scream 1, Billy fakes his own death to trick people into thinking that he's not the killer. If the Scream series was to end with a bang, why not have Randy do the same? There's no continuity reason why it couldn't happen. Besides it would be SO DAMN COOL, and his death in Scream 2 would be more then made up for. If it's anyone else, then the series has stuck it's head down the toilet.

    by lab rat 4

i've heard rumors that in the 1st scream, randy is a 3rd killer that wouldn't be revealed until the final scream.

it's possible he didn't die in the 2nd scream. i just saw a lot of blood on him, i didn't really see deep stab wounds.

anyway, maybe he is getting back at sidney for being rejected all this time. hehe. who knows...

    The only reasonable plot

    by sumopete

I saw Scream eight times in the theaters when it came out. I was first in line to see Scream 2 when it came out (by the way, when the revelation of the killers came out, the only sound in the theater was my "bullshit!" exclamation) So, I know a thing or three about Scream, and the only way that they can make ANY sense for Scream 3 is this: Dewey tries to kill Sidney because he was actually in love with her throughout this whole time, and heaven knows he's been through hell for her. Try and think back, if you will. In Scream, he was always giving her compliments, and then, in Scream 2, he came to her college. It's the only way. They're fuckin idiots making all of these sequels, though.

how could anyone like Scream 2? i mean give me a fucking break, the first 30 minutes or so were kinda cool but gee it was "hard" to figure out who the killer was since timothy olyphant disappeared for like half an hour before the ending. And laurie metcalf as billy's mom who lost a bunch of weight and that's why sidney didn't recognize her? and she met timothy olyphant in an internet serial killer chat room? how fucking lame can you get, i wanted to break the tape into a million piece after i saw this atrocious piece of shit, but i didn't want to pay the $110 deposit to blockbuster. Scream 3 will be equally as worthless unless kevin williamson and wes craven get their heads out of their asses and remember how to make movies. by billylowmis

You might have all heard people saying they know who the third killer is, but trust me this one is true... For christ sake I was working along side him the whole time, then Stu had to go fuck it up.
The third killer is Mr Town Sheriff from Woodsborrow, think about it fool, I'm living in hell right (with a bad headache)
now I hope this will go some way to getting me out. You see Kevin didn't show you those shoes for nothing you know...
Don't you think its strange that every time Sidney phones the police in "SCREAM" they never came. What's more Dept Dewey is working with us he's the front man in all this, The reason you ask for these killings? Well
Your goning to love this baby,
Mr town Sheriff was fucking Sidney's Mom and then she got into a bed with Cotten, and that makes Mr town Sheriff mad and wants to kill her family for revenge, but I wanted revange on her too, so i killed with the help of stu.. Dewey well, um he was sleeping with her too, she was a get around you know.

Corman or No Corman, who cares about the question?

    by ichabod crane

Well, regardless of what corman has done in the past or is going to do in the future isn't any of my business. Uncapie seems pretty pissed at whatever Corman did. Scream 3 for one, this year has done a damn good job of keeping the movie under-wrap, unlike last year where the movie was hype all the way through the season until its release in December. This year its a diffrent story, the cast aren't announce 4 months in advance, there wasn't any Script flying around the internet, nothing. The production date is closing in, and we only know so far that Parker Posey and Roger Corman is in Scream 3, pretty clever, I think there is more. Something tells me that Scream 3 has alot of unknown actors/actress in this one, which could be awesome if these actors/actresses goes on to do great movies in the future. The thing with Unknown Actors/actresses is we won't be able to pin point a certain character unlike if there was a famous one, we would be saying yeah he is the one, or nah he isn't. So guessing what is who or who is what will be one tough task if Scream 3 can be this secretive about thier Script and characters, imagine how secretive the Last part of the trilogy will be...nothing short of AMAZING!!!!! by the way both scream 1 & 2 is awesome, people who badmouth scream 2 is just 'Silly People' be warned, This post is long, screw me.

I guess what he referred to as "housesitting" when he wrote the original treatment for "Scary Movie" could be misconstrued as something else altogether.

Why Randy wouldn't work and other stuff

    by randalled

Randy died in Scream 2, he's not coming back, he didn't fake his death. The police were notified of his death, they undoubtedly took his body away afterwards, Sidney called his mom. Face it, he's not coming back.
I'm not going to name names here, but a few people need to calm down, especially people with Lucas character's in their names. You can not like a film, but there is no need to bash the writer with homophobic terms. It just shows your lack of intelligence, your inability to think of a better term. If you don't think your going to like Scream 3, don't see. And don't waste time leaving hateful feedback on something you're so adamant (sp?) about.

    My stand !

    by robinp

    These are my opinions !
They are mine, mine alone, and I do not apologise for them.

    I love the Scream movies.
    Why ?
Well, I'm a big fan of horror/slasher movies in general, and I see these as a fun way of reviving the genre.

I'm disappointed in kevin Williamson !
    Why ?
I read right at the beginning, at the release of Scream that it was always meant to be a trilogy. I'm disappointed that he can't won't stay the course.

    So he's homosexual !
    So ?
As long as I neither have to participate or watch, what he does behind closed doors is entirely his own affair, and I will not judge him for it.

    All third sequels suck !
    Do they ?
    Some do, some don't !
Nightmare on Elm Street 3 didn't,
neither did Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Return of the Jedi, Army of Darkness, Back to the Future 3, or Day of the Dead.
How about James Bond 3....Goldfinger ?

Oh, and Randy is dead ! He was a fictional character in a fictional film. Within the story, he died, and that's all there is to it.
Relax, chill out, go with the flow......after all, it IS only a movie !

    The Killer

    by claimjumper

Thought I'd stick my nose in. To the poster that questioned why the killer couldn't be determined by the context of the dialogue. The answer: It would probably be pretty easy to do but, I'll admit, I haven't seen the script, and my contact, who has, hasn't had it in his hands long enough to read every line. Remember what I said about copy-proof/fax-proof paper. Sit tight. It's been a long weekend and shooting starts in less than 36 hours.

    Randy's Potential Role

    by deejay

I find it doubtful that Randy will return to Scr3am alive. More than likely, he will be featured in "previously" taped video vignettes a la "The Blair Witch Project". By the time the film is released, this might be a little too passe, so perhaps Williamson will have Randy in some internet video files and web pages (perhaps he wrote a film script that part three's killers are emulating). Whatever the case, I'd rule out evil twins and dreams sequences, as that doesn't seem to jibe with Williamson's storytelling style.

Man Alive; I didn't write "...Randy will (not) return to 'Scr3am Alive'" which would make the word "Alive" a part of the film's title. I wrote "...Randy will (not) return to Scr3am alive" meaning Randy won't return to the franchise as a "living" character.

  • You stupid claimjumper, I'm onto you !! You get paid by the studio to throw sand in our eyes, to feed us tidbits of phoney information and Harry publishes those rumors. Claimjumper, please do something more usefull with the rest of that pathetic period you call life....
I'm gonna ignore every 'claimjumper' posting about this movie and just wait and see it at the end of this year of whenever it's ready. People like you can spoil the viewing pleasure of others. Don't mess with me......
or I'll send some REAL killers!!!

The killer in Scream 3 is....

    by bubbacr

Sidney is face to face with the killer. Roseanne pulls off the mask and screams "you killed my sister in Scream 2 and now it's your turn!". Tom Arnold appears on the screen and kills her, the carries Sidney off into the sunset.

    scream trilogy is shit

    by toby-one

They may as well have a few unknowns in the background at the start, like a post man and some one at a toll gate. Then at the end these people who haven't even spoken turn out to be the killers. Its just the kind of stupid pointless surprise that Craven wants. Then they blame the killing spree on crop dust like in Children of the Corn. A shite ending to a bunch of shite films

    Scream 3 - an idea

    by chamber

Aside from the conspiracy ideas that suggest the killers in all three films are linked, i have come across the best way to throw people of the track when it comes to who is the killer in Scream 3!

Stick with the two killers idea, but don't have them working together. Independently, unaware of who each other are. That way, cue loads of scenes where the audience see the killer apparently chased by the other killer. You wouldn't be able to tell if it was so-and-so, if you see them almost hacked to death by a psycho in a mask.

    Just an idea.

Kevin Williamson is the creator of D.C. IKWYDLS Buffy Cruel Intentions and Scream. So I think that Scream 3 is a perfect oppotunity to kill off all of the people he has in his crap dominions. People like Katie Holmes, James Van der Beek, Joshua Jackson, Ryan Phillippe and all the other wannabe adolecent kids. All the above should be in S3 and get killed in a School massacre. Then the rest of the film could at least be an attempted horror trying to be scary like "The Shining" or like Craven's earlier films such as "The Hills Have Eyes".
