HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY

I received this on Halloween of this year. What an awesome Halloween piece of mail! I have my little Golden Army guy on my desk with a color changing LED shoved up his backside so his “mechanical guts” glow from fiery red – to the cool blue that our possessive spirit gave them. Its pretty damn classic. I also love the reproduction of Guillermo’s notebook that comes with it – and then the film in Blu-Ray is just exquisite. With PAN’S LABYRINTH, Guillermo turned a visual corner. His films suddenly looked as magical as the stories he was telling. Being able to watch the Elemental scene here at home in 1080p is seriously one of the high water marks of the format in my opinion. Just transcendently beautiful yet tragic all at once. It is strange watching this film knowing that THE HOBBIT is next. For the last two films, Guillermo has moved more to the Fantasy realm, joining it with the earnestness of his horror. Making them emotionally resonant. It will be very interesting to see Guillermo make a Huge film without the goofy self-awareness of HELLBOY, his most successful large budget work to date. That said, it is truly great to have this here at home – and with a most excellent Golden Army bastard!

BAND OF BROTHERS (Blu-Ray)

I haven’t received this set yet, but I can not wait to get it. BAND OF BROTHERS is one of the best things that HBO has done, and frankly that’s really saying something. I anticipate that watching it in this format will just further my appreciation for the attention of detail and care that went into every second of this fantastic telling of Easy Company’s historic journey through the gut of World War II. This is one of the jewels of the week.

DR. SYN: THE SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH (Walt Disney Treasures)

I was completely unexposed to THE SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH, but I had heard of it. So when this latest set of three Walt Disney Treasures arrived, I ripped open the tin and cracked the box and placed it in my player. I’ve known the words to the Theme song for this over a decade. It was that laugh in the theme song that had me giddy to put this in, that laugh… that laugh and the knowledge that Patrick McGoohan was Dr. Syn.

Ok – you know Christian Bale’s Batman voice. That primordial scream of a voice belched from Hell. Now, I’ve never sat Nolan down, nor Christian Bale, but after watching THE SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH, and hearing that ungodly horror emanating from that Scarecrow’s lopsided maw. Well, you can’t help but think… just maybe, that perhaps – someone on the team is a fan of McGoohan’s SCARECROW. McGoohan as Dr Syn is mesmerizing – as he is in everything that Patrick has done, but when he’s in that Scarecrow garb, those stiff shoulders, the way the mouth in that costume works – and combined with that voice. Dear God, it’s hell unleashed. And it absolutely rules.

The prints are pristine and right before I played it, I had to change my bulb in my projector (took about a year) and to have this be the first thing to come out of my new bulb, it was as if it was just brilliant. So glad to have this at last!

Walt Disney Treasures: THE CHRONOLOGICAL DONALD, Vol. 4 – 1951-1961

I love Donald Duck. Actually not as much as Mickey Mouse, at least the old Black & White Mickey. Before he became too valuable of an icon to play with, nevermind that we’re talking about Donald Duck, specifically Donald of the 50s – This became Suburban / all-American Donald Duck. This is Donald with the nephews and the Chip & Dale and Humphrey the Bear. This is Donald in Cinemascope, Donald in Mathmagic Land and more. This actually has a pair of my favorite Donald cartoons – LUCKY NUMBER and TRICK OR TREAT. But the real treat is to finally have the Cinemascope Donalds. Here’s the complete rundown of what’s in this set:

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS

Yeah, I know – This film really got my ire up. The series on CARTOON NETWORK is infinitely superior – and despite the overall shit of it all, there’s moments where it’s pretty. I have it, because it got sent to me – and more so, I have it because my nephew actually likes it – and only a grinch would tell a child they’re wrong to like shit.

QUO VADIS (2-disc Special Edition)

I love Peter Ustinov’s Nero. This is like the evil brother of the other epics. I have always loved the permission for gore in religious flicks, because… well, it is the truth… it really happened, we must underline the suffering. And boy did Mervyn Le Roy let it all hang out here. There’s a glee to having the man who shot LITTLE CAESAR this bloody affair. The film is epic – of course, and while not the greatest of Epics, it is one helluva flick. There’s a good documentary on the making of the film which is quite something all on its own.

FIREFLY: THE COMPLETE SERIES (Blu-Ray)

Alright, now it’s my time to join the Whedonites! I’m picking this up tomorrow and will be watching it through. SERENITY has grown on me, though it still isn’t a blow between the shoulder blades that fans of FIREFLY express it to be. Well, I’ll be giving this a shot. And I genuinely look forward to it.

Walt Disney Treasures: THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB Presents Annette – 1957-1958 Season

I don’t know the fascination with Annette Funicello, I think it was something from the era – something to have been experienced and how can you ever recreate that? Why, right here on this set, that’s how. I haven’t put these in yet. I’m looking forward to it. But here I’ll discover Annette as she was and see if there really was magic that transcends an era. I’m looking forward to seeing what the hub bub is all about.

NIGHT GALLERY: Season Two

I remember NIGHT GALLERY as a child. I’m not sure when in my youth I saw them, but my parents loved the show – and if you saw this show as a young one, oh my did it weave serious magic upon you. Like Clint Howard’s THE BOY WHO PREDICTED EARTHQUAKES – the first episode of season 2 – DAMN. First Clint is just a creepy child. In every way that Ron was adorable, there’s something unhinged about Clint. Maybe it is how his later work colors this dwarf version of himself, but it’s just eerie. Or CLASS OF ’99 with Vincent Price – this thing is genuinely disturbing. The power that Price has over his students, what he makes them do. It is classic! Then there’s just the paintings themselves – they’re lurid little nightmares made of garish colors – and sometimes the episode that is allegedly tied to the painting… well, it makes the painting all the creepier. You’ll also find 3 commentaries by Guillermo Del Toro – who is a HUGE – NIGHT GALLERY fan. And I really do hope that his own Mexican TV Series someday finds release subtitled in the US. Guillermo showed me a few, and they very much felt like episodes of NIGHT GALLERY – and that is a high compliment. Here you get 5 DVDs of NIGHT GALLERY weirdness and scares. Fantastic series.

THE SOPRANOS – The Complete Series

I can’t really add anything to the discussion of THE SOPRANOS. It’s a great series – and here it is, all of it.

JFK (Blu-Ray)

This stunningly brilliant film isn’t about John F Kennedy… it isn’t even really about answering any of the myriad of questions about JFK’s death… More than that, it is simply about acknowledging that there ARE questions. That it all STINKS. That the evidence and the following stonewalling seems to point to a greater conspiracy. Oliver’s film is a fever dream of evidence, theories and smoking guns. The assassination of JFK has been a conspiracy theorists wet dream, JFK brought that conversation to the lips of our nation. The film is spectacular and they’ve done a tremendous job on this Blu-Ray.

Warner Bros. And the Homefront Collection ( Irving Berlin’s THIS IS THE ARMY / THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS / HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN )

Ahhhh… I love these spirited war-time musical rah-rah pieces that Warner Brothers put out during World War II. It wasn’t merely American Propaganda, but Hollywood Propaganda – to show not just the soldiers, but the people of the United States that Hollywood, that Tinseltown cared about America, its soldiers and their sacrifices. These movies are loaded with stars. And this set is loaded with outtakes, patriotic shorts, cartoons, newsreels, trailers, a documentary on War Time Warner Brothers. All this and more.

SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO

I do believe this is the first Takeshi Miike film on Blu-Ray… I will quietly rock back n forth in the corner of my room awaiting many more. This isn’t the best Miike – and some will hate it, but for me… to see an Eastern flavored run at Corbucci’s great Django… it is a blast. Now, I like Quentin as an actor, but here… I do feel he was distracting. This is really a treat in 1080p!

THE LONE RANGER: 75th Anniversary – Seasons 1 & 2

Over 30 hours of thrilling tales of yester year. Do you love Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels? The purity of a silver bullet, not for lycanthropy, but for truth & justice? I do. I eat this stuff up. A true Western superhero. Soon to be a Disney feature film franchise!

Johnny Carson Celebrates Christmas

I love fun Christmas collections – and nothing quite says 70’s Childhood Christmas quite like Johnny Carson! This is 3 of his Christmas themed shows featuring folks like Robin Williams, Tony Bennett, Garry Shandling and even Bob Hope.

THE STORY OF O (Blu-Ray)

This is hot, kinky and a bit twisted, but having said that it wasn’t nearly as sensual or sexual as I was expecting. This is a legendary title, a film of great rumored power. It isn’t a complete loss. In particular, some of the bondage and S&M moments are effective – and the lead, Corinne Clery is simply breath-taking. And Udo Kier is… well, he’s Udo Kier and always will be particularly Udo.

THE GENERAL (Ultimate 2-Disc Edition)

One of the greatest films of all time – and Kino is doing yet another bang-up job on a title, oh so deserving. A film of pure magic. It is the power of Keaton bottled up in a brilliant film. Here’s what Kino has in store for us on this disc…

SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Three musical scores to choose from:
(1) Music composed and conducted by Carl Davis, performed by The Thames Silents Orchestra (in 5.1 Stereo Surround or 2.0 Stereo)
(2) Music arranged and directed by Robert Israel
(3) Theatre organ score by Lee Erwin
- A video tour of the authentic General, presented in association with The Southern Museum
- A tour of the filming locations, presented by John Bengtson, author of Silent Echoes
- Behind-the-scenes home movie footage
- Filmed introduction by Gloria Swanson
- Filmed introduction by Orson Welles
- The Buster Express, a brisk montage of train gags from throughout Keaton s career

BLACK CHRISTMAS (Blu-Ray)

The second best Christmas film ever made by Bob Clark. I once had the privilege of watching this film with John Saxon at the Alamo Drafthouse. That was a good night. And this film is outstanding. It’s essentially a standard killer in your midst flick, but it’s downright creepy and fucked up. Olivia Hussey is yummy, Margot Kidder is crazy young and the film is just tremendous. The Blu-Ray is a gorgeous print. And I believe it’s the highest res’d twisted Christmas film available for those of us with Blu-Rays. So that kinda makes it a must own!

I DREAM OF JEANNIE: The Complete Series

Out of curiousity – those of you that handed out candy at Halloween this year – did you notice a disportionate amount of Jeannies this year. I literally had like 12 little girls dressed as Barbara Eden from I DREAM OF JEANNIE and it kinda took me aback. Is there a modern retro craze for Jeannie? Or is it just the universally recognized awesomeness of the Jeannie costume? Here’s every episode ever – all put on 20 DVDs ina very clever and fun box set. That’s all 139 episodes telling the entire epic story of a slave and her master. Sigh…

M SQUAD – The Complete Series with Bonus CD: The Music of M Squad

I’ve never seen a single episode of M SQUAD, but my Dad is screaming his head off dying for this box set, as when Father Geek was a young man, Lee Marvin made his way into his tiny Black & White TV in his bedroom and told him gritty Noir-esque tales of Chi-Town. And he’s excited as hell to get the collected badassery of Frank Ballinger aka Lee Marvin!

Operation Valkyrie: The Stauffenberg Plot To Kill Hitler

This is not put out by MGM as pre-hype for the Tom Cruise film, but rather a documentary about the real life incidents as told via many eyewitness accounts. For me, I’m just fascinated in the story, ever since reading McQuarrie’s script for VALKYRIE, so I’m looking to learn more about the real life, before the movie hits later this year!

Well, that’s it for this week. I noticed that this title is coming up the first week of December…

I always try and catch a little bit of it whenever it's on the history channel. And I thought Hellboy 2 was a blast, especially watching it back to back with TDK, just the 'lighter' comic book adaption movie I needed.

    Projector Bulbs

    by rando calrisian

    Harry...

Just curious, After a year of using your projector, how many hours of time do you think you put on it, and how much did it cost you to replace the bulb? I've been looking at the possibility of going with a preojector when the current TV takes a dive, but I'm just wondering about it's life expectancy.

Of course, you probably put a little more of a hurt on your projector than the average viewer...

into the heart of many: "Tarantino" and "acting." That man is so god awful at acting that he has ruined moments in several of his own films. Hell, I love Reservoir Dogs, but his monologue in the beginning is like listening to cats being ground alive. In fact, it went from a great film to a good film because of that. Thank god he didn't make an appearance in Kill Bill.

My bulb had 5447 hours on it - though it was just supposed to last 3000. New bulb cost me 220. But to have 1080p 9' by 12' in my living room - TOTALLY FUCKING WORTH IT.

Hate FARSCAPE, but love BABYLON 5 - I watched that series on its initial run.

Harry, you can't hate Farscape. If you do so, that means you hate Jim Henson and Muppets by association. Therefore, you hate childhood. HELLO?!? :) Farscape is my favorite Sci Fi series ever. Babylon 5 and Firefly are close. Farscape still rules them all, to me.

Alright... I have to ask this...

    by jimmy rabbitte

...Star Wars was my first ever favorite film. It was released when I was 6 years old and to this day the OT is a revered part of my collection...

Having said that... I need a little help. I have not really followed the whole Clone Wars situatuion. I have watched the first 3 or 4 episodes on iTunes; which leads me to my question.

Wasn't the "film" that was released this past summer supposed to be the first three episodes of the show cut together? Since Harry said he hated the movie, but he kind of likes the show, I'm not sure what the deal is. I'm partially willing to rent the DVD from Netflix if it helps fill in any gaps; but I've grown rather impatient with Lucas' sub-par Star Wars efforts.

To think there was a time when I could come home from school and watch The Wonderful World of Disney/Color in syndication on UHF. In an age with so many damn cable stations showing so much crap, why can't we have a CLASSIC Disney channel that shows stuff like this. You turn on the Disney Channel now and there's not a mouse or duck to be seen. For shame.

None of this ineffectual effects-masturbation like "Hellboy II", you need something that is remarkable in that it taps into your childhood fanboy nostalgia and pushes your viewing experience into a realm of emotion and brilliant plot that even attracts and hooks "civilian" viewers. I am of course talking about the hidden treasure, the REMARKABLE series "Firefly" which was initially forced upon me but contains elements that overwhelmed me with enjoyment and love and loyalty for a fictional crew and ship in ways that hit hard.

I have friends that don't give a shit about scifi, that discovered and watched this show on their own and are passionate and sad there is not more.

It's better than the final colder "Serenity" film.

I hope you remark well, as it is remarkable.

I bought the Import Blu-ray on ebay about 6 months ago. I watched it 4 times and it does get better with repeat viewing's. It was good when i 1st watched it, and now i totally dig it. QT is the worst part at the beginning, but it's short. Also they filmed it with all the actors speaking english. And alot of them struggle with it. But it's still a sweet eastern-western. It is not a re-do of Django. More of a homage.

I think the reason the TV show is better is because the action is better. They keep the dialog quick and the little stories fast paced. Of course the character design for the humans is terrible. I'm guessing Lucas liked the wooden acting in the PT and that's why they went with that dumb look. Over all I'm not blown away by the Clone Wars on TV but it really might end up being better than the movies.

Of course we all know what he did to the force. Why can't he listen and just realize he needs to step down creativly and turn it over to the next generation of artist. Just handle the business that's what he's good at.

    by straighttohell

There are NO QUESTIONS as to who killed JFK! I know it's sexy to imagine an all-poweful conspiracy and government of thousands or people conspiring to kill the president, but, if history has taught us anything is that no 2 people can keep a secret for very long and the government is way to incompetent to conspire to kill the president and then to effectively keep it all quiet. Look through the fog of your emotions and use logic, common sense and facts. Even if you trow out all of the people around the murder of JFK, and all of the possible methods and reasons to kill the president, the simple CIG analysis of the path of the bullet and the layout of the plaza where JFK was shot (this was shown on the History channel many times already) confirms beyond all doubt that Oswalk shot JFk and he did it from where they said he did it. as much as it's fun to bring up the men on the Grassy Knoll, if you've been to the plaza in real live and seen the geography of the place, the fact is that it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for anybody to fire anything from Grassy Knoll without either beeing seen be every single person who was there that day or defying the laws of physics. There was just no other place to shoot from other than where Oswald was. And the second thing is look at Oswald. If you study his history then you see that he is a classic lone assassin type. Unstable, too nuts for even Russia to want his ass. And his random murder of police man Tippit showed a desperate man who was guilty as hell and was running for his life knowing that he murder someone (i.e. the president). To believe in a conspiracy this massive is to believe that hundred's, if not thousands of people managed to conpsire to kill JFK and then managed to keep the conspiracy under wraps without leaking like the Watergate investigation. Sorry. Do some research for real and know what you're talking about.

    by straighttohell

Oliver Stone is a brilliant director and, as long as you ignore the facts, the movie is a blast in terms of being an exciting murder mystery. I still think that Talk Radio, Wall Street and Nixon are his best films. and I'm watching Any Given Sunday now and that's an awesome flick as well. The guy is obviously insane, but he's a master filmmaker. And he has few peers in script-writing. The dialogues in Wall Street and Scarface alone stand head-and-shoulders above anything QT ever did.

    StraightToHell --JFK

    by mace13

It sounds like you're just going with whatever crap the mainstream media is forcing down your throat. You're free to believe what you want to but I think you need to look behind the scenes at all of the weird shit that was going on in the whole "JFK assassination" thing before bitching at someone for suggesting something more might have been going on than what the government has served to us on a nice shiny platter. It sounds like all of the research that you did only went as far as what you watched on the "History Channel".

For example- Lets start with Tippits murder. Since you mentioned that. Domingo Benavavides a witness to Tippits murder claimed that the killer "Didn't look anything like Oswald". But he later changed his story only after receiving death threats and then the sudden murder of his brother who looked like him. Another witness by the name of Warren Reynolds chased Tippits killer for a block and he also said that Tippits killer didn't look like Osawld. He even went as far as refusing to ID Oswald as Tippits killer. He still refused even after being shot in the head with a rifle by a man who had ties to Jack Ruby. He only changed his story and finally identified Oswald as Tippits killer after an abduction attempt on his young daughter. And the guy that shot Mr. Reynolds in the head? He was cleared of charges thanks to an alibi by a stripper who worked at Ruby's club. Of course the stripper later turned up dead in a Dallas jail cell. She supposedly hung herself after being left alone.
There are a large number of strange deaths involved with any type of witness of the assassination or associates of Ruby's or Oswalds that didn't go along with the "Oswald did it" theory. Almost anyone who had evidence or suggested otherwise turned up dead.
Warren comision member Hale Boggs who publicly stated he had doubts about the Magic bullet theory. Disappeared in a plane crash after receiving damaging information on the private lives of warren report critics from fbi director hoover. Mariyn Moon Walle a stripper at Rubys club who later planned to write a tell all book on the assassination was found shot to death. Lt.William Pitzer who took JFK's autopsy photos was later found dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He held the gun in his right hand even though he was left handed. Lee Bowers Jr. who was stationed at a railroad control tower behind the grassy knoll claimed to have seen two men at the fence and a puff of smoke at the time of the shooting. He was later found dead in a one car accident. Deputy sheriff Buddy Walthers who found a .45 slug in the dealy plaza grass gave it to someone who identified himself as an FBI agent. The slug was never seen again but Mr. Walthers refused to be quiet about it. That is all the way up until his death in a police shootout. It's suspected he was shot by a fellow officer.George Demohrenshildt who was a friend of Oswalds and had publicly stated that Lee was innocent was found dead by self inflicted gunshot literally hours before he was to be interviewed by the assassination investigator. And the list just goes on and on..........................................................................................................................

Further proof that Harry hates just to appease his geeky masses.

Clone Wars on TV is brilliant. I'll admit, it was a bit jarring seeing the Clone Wars movie for the first time. But after having seen the first six episodes of the TV series and returning to the film this week, I can honestly say there is NO difference between the two!

Harry needs to man up and admit that he jumped on the movie hate train prematurely as he expected an episode 7 or an expanded Genndy Tartakovsky film. The Clone Wars is neither of those, but works excellently in its own ways.

    JFK

    by homer40

JFK is a stunning film. It is exciting, brilliantly acted, and certainly the most interestingly directed film of Stone's career. What is just as fascinating about JFK is that it is just utter nonsense. I remember seeing the film when it came out, several times at the last local theater that hadn't become a multiplex, and wow did it fire my imagination. Of course, since then virtually every theory the film embraces has been exposed as crackpot nonsense. It is pretty clear that JFK was killed by an unstable communist who didn't approve of JFK's massive anti-communist agenda. The "magic bullet" wasn't magic, and went precisely where it should have if you take into account that the car was moving. The Italian rifle used by Oswald is one of the most accurate and deadly weapons every produced, and the shooting has been duplicated endless times by sharpshooters. Interestingly, it only makes the movie more fun in my book, and you never really get over the scenes with Pesci and the gang prancing about in all their gay glory. I have always thought the best scene in the film, and the best performance, was given by the great Donald Sutherland. It is a scene that is breathless in its momentum, horrifying and absolutely exhilerating. In my book, JFK works because it is so totally over the top, so absolutely insane, and so damm entertaining. I can't wait to see it on blu-ray.

    Studio One

    by homer40

This is certainly the pick of the week (along with the Jeannie set). When I was at NYU I had access to the Museum of Broadcasting, and had the opportunity to see many of these great works. I tell you, that place was awesome. You could pretty much watch anything ever produced for television that survived, from Studio One to the Watergate Hearings. I would spend hours sitting in my little cubicle with headphones on, traveling back in time to my own history and a couple of decades before. I'm sure that this new box set will be the best of the year. It doesn't look like the original "Bang the
Drum Slowly" with Paul Newman is one there though. If you haven't seen the original, it is superior to the excellent film with DeNiro. I also didn't see "Marty" on the list, the television production of which was also better than the padded version with Borgnine. There was a time when Rod Steiger was a great actor, before he became one of the great "bad" actors with his gut busting performance in Stallone's "The Specialist". Old TV rocks.

    I Dream of Jeannie

    by homer40

While many consider this to be a cheap rip off of Bewitched, I always felt this was the better show, because it was much funnier. It holds up great after all these years, because Haggman is so fucking hilarious. The other great thing is the fact that it is set against he backdrop of the space program. As a kid in the sixties and seventies the space program really fired my imagination, and it is perfectly integrated into the series. The same can be said for the way advertising was incorporated into Betwitched (long before Mad Men became the rage), but the space program is just so cool. Jeannie excels because of Barbra Eden's amazing beauty, and the genuine amount of adorable mischievousness she brings to the role. The other reason the series works so well is the supporting roles of Roger Healy (Tony's best friend) and the endless torment of Dr. Bellows. What a great show.

    by tinseltown terror

I bought the japanese blu-ray SWD about 6 months ago off ebay for $50. It is the 121minute version. They do have them now. Or order it from yesasia for $47. It is in english. Just the menus are in japanese and the disc all-region too, i played it my PS3. ALSO bestbuy right now has 3 differant steelbook covers with each one having a differant bonus disc. I heard the one with the cover of "the leader of the whites"(Long haired dude no hat" has the xtra disks with deleted scenes. I do planning on picking them up but not gotten to bestbuy yet or i would give more details. Hope this helps.

I'm shocked and baffled at the level of HB 2 hate

    by happyfat73

around here. Seriously, as far as pure entertainment value goes, I thought Hellboy 2 was one of the best of the year. I'd rate it above the other comic films this year. I mean, I loved Dark Knight and all, but now the dust has settled, some of its sheen has worn off and it just isn't as good as everyone seems to think it is (Ledger's performance notwithstanding).

    That "Definitive Sopranos Ending" business

    by i am_notreal

makes David Chase laugh with glee at the amount of time the guy spent on it. The ending of The Sopranos was Chase's fuck you to all the people thinking they knew the show better than he did, but is no less brilliant for it.

Not on topic, but, is AICN reviewing QoS?

    by ricarleite

Or they rather not have a negative review due to the film heavily advertising on this site?

I'm holding out for the next Sopranos set.

    by nice marmot

It'll have the Sopranos movie and the special editions where A.J. and Janice get shot in the face in every single episode.

BLU RAY FIREFLY? OH SWEET JESUS YES!!!

    by alucardvsdracula

My first real introduction to Firefly was through Serenity, a film which I began watching only to turn off about 20 mins in. Sure I knew this had a hardcore fanbase but I just thought it was a very average looking movie and I had better things to do with my time. Anyway bout a week later I was bullied by my brother to pick up Firefly in our local DVD retailer. I told him I couldn't even get through 20 minutes of Serenity so what chance would I give a dead sci-fi show. I must have been in a careless mood cause I ended up buying the box set. The following evening I begrudgingly put in in the DVD player and gave it a try. I don't know at what point it took hold, it wasn't right the way, but by the end of the pilot I was pretty excited about where this was going. As I went through the episodes one by one I felt this show enter my bloodstream, fuck, it was that good. By the end of the series I was craving for more, but alas all there was was that dodgy looking movie I'd still not watched. Anyway I forced myselt to go throught the movie and if I'm honest was still unimpressed, although it had some pretty brilliant moments scattered here and there. But holy shit, holy mother of Christmas Firefly is freaking amazing. Now if ONLY they'd get around to getting another series off the ground... if only... if only...

After watching Firefly, Serenity kinda sucked...

    by flip63hole

In so many different ways it way kind of painful. The way they tried to please newbies really killed it for me. The whole thing of having pretty much every scene be with every one of the characters = even the action segments. Was really lame having Kaylee just stand in the background like a prop (in Firefly she's usually back taking care of the ship). The arbitrary killing off of characters was so ham-fisted as being almost comedic. Was also weird that the assassin from Serenity was the assassin from the last episode of Firefly. Didn't seem the crew of Serenity remembered... Oh well, 2 more hours of Nate Fillon and friends made it okay...

Harry, have you watched the 1st ep of Firefly?

    by buffywrestling

I know I liked it; I know Herc liked it - but I also know that Vern *hated* Serenity in the theater and you are kinda "meh" about the whole Whedon thing.

(I think Vern hated serenity in the theater due to obnoxious "browncoats", if for not for the "trying to satisfiy the fans" take on the movie. Being a fan though, I appreciated it but I can see how it might have lost some people.)

I got into, maybe, the first ten minutes of Clone Wars and wanted to shoot myself. In a matter of three years Lucas has changed me from a solid, true believer into a complete hater. Have a steak on me, Lucas.

    by sherlock_junior

    Hey samuraiyao!
Of course every good copy version of The General is a must have just for the incredible movie and Buster itself. But Joe Hisaishi's musical score even lifts it to a higher level! Its absolutely stunning and made with the highest respect to Buster. He really transfers the mood and rythmic style in a way never before heard!

Enjoy every version but please check it out. kind regards

Annette Funicello Had Some Major Nose Surgery. She came back with a perky little nose after some early success as a MOUSEKETEER. No one talks about her plastic surgery that turned her into a HOTTIE. Care for some Beach Blanket Bingo anyone?
