SOPRANOS!! FIREFLY!! BUFFY!! SYN!! MXC!! JONNY!! ER!! DEAD LIKE ME!! WONDERFALLS!! HercVault!!

Published at:  Nov 11, 2008 3:28:36 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

People seem to enjoy “Firefly,” the tale of a Han Solo-like space criminal and his space-hooker girlfriend. The 15-episode sci-fi comedy actioner was created for an ungrateful Fox Network by Joss Whedon (“Toy Story,” “Speed,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Dr. Horrible”). Its big-screen sequel, “Serenity,” sold quite nicely in HD over at Universal, so Fox has decided to issue the mother series in hi-def as well. “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” star Summer Glau plays the product of unpleasant government experiments. “Chuck” star Adam Baldwin plays an angry tough guy.

Beyond the extras featured in the DVD edition, the Blu-ray set is said to include a new "Our Mrs. Reynolds" episode commentary by Whedon and actors Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass, as well as a new “Dinner For Five”-ish reunion-lunch featuring the same five men.

Eight years before “Cat Ballou” earned Lee Marvin an Oscar, “M Squad” (a key inspiration for “Police Squad!” and the “Naked Gun” movies) made Lee Marvin a star. Aired on NBC for three seasons between 1957 and 1960, 117 episodes were shot starring Marvin as Lt. Frank Ballinger, a Chicago police detective whose special unit focused on organized crime and corruption. Guest stars over the series’ run included Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Charles Bronson and Burt Reynolds. The new set includes a CD containing music from the show.

Between the first and second seasons of “Danger Man,” Patrick McGoohan starred in the well-regarded 1963 “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color” miniseries “Dr. Syn: The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh,” based on the 1915 novel by Russell Thorndike. It told the tale of an 18th-century rural clergyman who moonlighted as a masked defender fighting the unjust forces of King George III.

That Schwarzeneggerian figure on the cover of Son of the Beach Vol. 2 is Arnold’s fellow Austrian muscleman Roland Kickinger, who played the series’ Schwarzeneggerian lifeguard Chip Rommel. Kickinger finally gets to move out of Schwarzenegger’s shadow next year when he appears as the T-800 in “Terminator Salvation.”

All you need to know about the seventh season of “Scrubs” is it was scripted in part by the great Kevin Biegel, longtime AICN contributor.

I did not think they'd be able to top the awfulness of the Scrubs DVD covers, but this may be the worst.

any word on Angel coming to Blu-ray?

    by lynxpro

If there's one now "classic" series that requires the Blu-ray treatment, it is *Angel*. They shot on 16mm so it shouldn't be a difficult conversion process. And all but Season One was shot widescreen anyway.

Herc, could you help me out here?

by shut the fuck up donny

My wife is a hard-core Sopranos fan and is basically dying for the box set this Christmas. I'm pretty close to getting it for her, but I didn't want to commit to it if there was a chance a blu-ray box set may come up in the near future. Any info on that? And for that matter, would it matter, or would I probably not get anything more substantial in the upgrade? I thought the later seasons looked good on HBO HD, but I wasn't sure if that was just because of it just being broadcast on an upgraded signal, or they were actually taking advantage of the technology in filming.

Sorry to sound so ignorant on the matter, but you're kinda the guru around here, and that's a hefty chunk of cash for a show I am only a casual fan of.

    Scrubs and soprano

    by stuckinthepresentpaused

the bigget problem with the Scrubs dvd is that the episodes are in televised order instead of production and episodic order. NBC aired MY princess as the last episode since they werent bringing Scrubs back when it was suppose to be episode 9 of the 11. the Dvd set does not correct this which is very annoying as if you want to watch it right you have to choose by episode and not play all.
the biggest problems with the sopranos is the price. HBO prices their dvd sets ridiculously high.

Tony blacked out from a panic attack

  • Nov 12, 2008 10:24:34 AM CST

Thus, Dr. Melfi was wrong in her assumption...

    by eriamjh

... that as a true psychopath, Tony only used therapy to convince himself what he was doing was right. But as he settled back into family norm with French Fries and a tired baby-boomer song playing on da jukebox, he panicked. (And I still wanna bang Meadow.) Badabing!

You missed the ever-lovin' point, Herc

    by dashing roger

And that is whether Tony eats a bullet right there, 10 minutes later or ten years later, the rest of his life is looking up to see who's coming at him. When it exactly happens isn't really the point. If it makes you sleep better at night in your one-piece pajamas with footies to believe he's dead and the show's all wrapped up nice and neat, so be it. I guess.

    @ hercules

    by orange cinema

uhh, hasn't chase gone on record to say the ending was intentionally ambiguous, so that each individual viewer could create thier own ending for tony & the gang?

so your ending can definately be a bullet to the brain, but mine is not, and the next guy/gal will have an ending completely different from you & I - that was the brilliance of the high anxiety cut to black. nothing i've heard/read has led me to believe that chase ended things any different than the 'choose yer own soprano's ending'.

    Sopranos-the end

    by garydellabate

Just read the essay from the link I posted.

Dashing Roger has a point. The fact that Tony isn't shown being shot dead leaves a little doubt that an evil like Tony can be extinguished.

However, taken within context of the rest of that episode, the final season, and the whole series as a whole, it's pretty clear Chase intended to create a very strong interpretation that Tony died.

    Ignoring that is just foolish.
