Lo, CLASH OF THE TITANS Casting Hath Begun(eth)!!
Merrick here...
Sam Worthington is in talks to become Perseus in Louis Leterrier's CLASH OF THE TITANS remake. The role was played by Harry Hamlin in director Desmond Davis' 1981 progenitor.
Worthington's become quite the Genre Boy these days, having recently filmed TERMINATOR SALVATION and James Cameron's AVATAR (whose previously rumored IMAX 3D release is now official, by the way).
Worthington's CLASH casting comes as Tarsem Singh is closing in on THE TUDORS' Henry Cavill to play the lead in WAR OF THE GODS (obviously unrelated to the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA episode of the same name).
The projects have different plots, but each film will be made for under $100 million because the visual effects will be accomplished using the greenscreen techniques that made "300" so visually arresting.
...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.
And, yes, I know my headline really doesn't really work too well at all. (shrugs)...

Woo Hoo !!!!

Hell, if Depp can be Tonto in a Lone Ranger film, he can certainly be Bubo.
-
The original was fun and a great memory from my youth
-
Watch it for Caroline Munroe
-
..because the original wasn't that good. As long as they don't make it into a dumb kiddie movie, this could be interesting.
-
And Jason Biggs as....I don't know, something.
-
It wont be Clash of the Titans without a thick curly Jewfro
-
Who is this guy? and why is he getting all these kick ass roles? He looks nothing like perseus.. christ why couldn't they get someone who looks the part.. Adrian Greenier or someone who.. I dunno looks greek in the LEAST bit?! or at least has some mediterranean features?!
-
There can be no other choice.
-
Oh wait, it's been done.
-
Hey anybody know if this Watchmen, story is a hoax or what?

Oh wait, it's been done.
-
Rosie O'Donnell for Medusa.
-
Eh, zfisk?
-
so don't screw this remake up! I want Calibos, Charon, Kraken and Medusa, I want the prolific gore and nudity of the original (in what was a PG release!), a nod to the original music, and for all the 'monsters' to be based off their original Harryhausen designs! And Zeus had better still have that bitchin' action figure collection with playsets!
-
He's funny.

harry hamlin was tapped again to play perseus in god of war 2
by hir0 pr0tag0nist
just so you know
-
He is still alive. We all know that Greek Gods are immortal, and he is currently living somewhere in Greece. If He is connected I know He will say yes. However, he will try to rape the female actresses in the movie, and he will be continuosly drunk for the whole shoot.
-
I would love to see him freak out in that role.

Joe Pesci as Zeus and Sandra Bernhard as Medusa. Sara Palin as A
by rodneyfaile
-
cameo by McCain as Kraken
-
that whole article is confusing. What the hell are you trying to tell us..??!!
-
WTF?!
-
Why not? It was outdated in 1980 but they still used it then as a stylistic choice. And today it could be rendered even more smoothly ala Nightmare Before Christmas. Here's to hoping!
-
Monica Bellucci for Medusa.
-
Thor 2
Shatner Vs. Blessed -
Give me Will Kemp any day.
-
...they must include another prolonged gratuitous shot of a young, voluptuous, wet, completely nude shot of Andromeda getting out of the tub.
God bless Harryhausen! And Harry Hamlin! -
Make it so!
-
Who did the CG on the Mist movie because most of that had a harryhausen look to it albeit CG Realitic and such! "techniques that made "300" so visually arresting"
by troutmaskreplicant
Don't you mean cheap? It's funny that Sam Worthington is in all these big things and yet none of the general public have seen him in any of these big things. He must be good, mustn't he? Visually at least he has a really good combination of looks and masculinity.
-
As a kid I knew my Greek mythology and there was no Kraken in the Perseus myth. I think it must have been my first taste of Hollywood's take on artistic license.
-
I still think that would make an awesome movie. An unstoppable badass killing every mythological creature in sight? Who wouldn't get pumped.
-
That was a nice one Bloop. No make up or effects needed.
-
Is this guy sucking a lot of dick or what?
-
has one of the most characterless faces I have ever seen.. looking at pics of him I see none of the character that makes a moviestar..
-
Saw his name in the credits, saw Mike Vartan, some other Aussie actors and saw no one that made me go CAST THAT GUY IN EVERY COOL GENRE MOVIE IN THE PIPELINE!!!
-
I have a lot of affection for the original, as I must have watched it ten zillion times on Showtime back in the early days of cable. I hope the designs don't stray too far from the original. The kraken should still look like Ymir 3000. I hope Medusa isn't too messed with either, let alone the mood in that scene. Actually, there are a lot of great moments in the film, it just drags between them. (Although I didn;t notice that when i was 7. I guess I'm less patient now than then.)
-
The movie should be entirely about young, beautiful, wet nude Andromeda getting out of tubs and reclining akimbo in the sun on coastal rocks. And perhaps bathing with other maidens.
-
Does the 2 disc special edition of Waterworld (advertised above) feature any additional footage of Tripplehorn sans clothing? I'll buy that for a dollar!
-
Let's remake every classic film we can think of!
How about Casablanca with Tara Reid and Will Smith! -
North By Northwest with Nic Cage and Scarlett Johannsen a while back.."Well look at that, that drone aircraft is huntin' for terrorists where there ain't any terrorists...(enters bus)"
-
TroutMaskReplicant, there were a lot of things in that movie that weren't a part of the Perseus myth. It bugged me too when I saw it in the theater for the first time. Still, it's a fun movie.
Mmmmmmmm, greek myth hash! -
2001 a Space Odyssey. With Gilbert Godfried as HAL and Keanu Reeves as Dave.
-
That I actually think deserves a remake. Don't get me wrong, I love the original and think Harryhausen did a great job with his claymation, but it looks soooo fake now (I saw it when i was a kid so i guess it was more believable). Anyway, an updated look with CGI will be awesome...but the casting needs to be perfect.
-
don't say Harryhausen and claymation in the same sentence. Those armatures are minature works of art, not to be confused with Wallace and Gromit...Rewatched the Harryhausen Chronicles recently and loved when after giving Ray his honorary Oscar, Tom Hanks said, in effect, "Some say Citizen Kane, some say Gone With The Wind, but for me the best movie of all time is Jason And The Argonauts.." God bless your geek heart Mr. Hanks.
-
Ray's swansong. His work was wonderful. It was the pacing, and acting that slowed things down, and the concession to add the R2D2 like Bubo was maddening. But compare the stop motion work of the same period, such as the TaunTauns and Imperial Walkers in Empire, or moreso, the dragon in Dragonslayer (with the innovative go-motion devices to add camera blur), and it appeared the students were surpassing the master.
-
Why bother seeing anything else at the movies next year?
-
Vincent Chase too busy on smoke jumpers?
-
It's the new sell out of film making.
This had better have tits in it. -
The "300" style (funny, since it was Sky Captain that really got this bandwagon rolling) works great for comic book movies like, oh, say, 300. After all, you're working from source material that's highly stylized in the first place, so there's all sorts of technical liberties you can take with the motion picture. But Clash of the Titans "should" be a "realistic" looking fantasy film, like Lord of the Rings, shouldn't it?
-
...with all the mythology intact? Achilles dipped in the river Styx, etc. Might've been a half-decent movie that way...Oh, and 'yay' to a 'God Of War' movie, drewlicious. Kratos rocks!
-
Who could we get to take over Troy McClure's role...
-
I would prefer them to be made with practical effects w/ a little cgi thrown in, with FILM cameras which are on cranes and such and not fucking handheld, wide shots, real fucking locations, real fucking actors, and real sense of imagination instead of lazy CGI, green screen, video camera bullshit. Modern directors need to watch some John Ford and David Lean movies.
-
I thought it was well done overall, it just lacked that certain something that demands repeat viewings. Maybe that something would have been the mythological element...
-
Every Stop Animation effect in the first SW movies was 10x more real looking then any single effect in the 2nd trilogy. Brilliant work.
-
that's all Tarsem DOES is practical stuff. you need to see "The Fall", his latest. it's fucking amazing, and there isn't ONE shot of green screen in the entire film, even though it's a fantasy story that takes place on like 4 continents...

I just hope they dont fuck up "Clash of the Titans"...
by space disc jockey
Man, "Clash of the Titans" was one of my favorite films, growing up. I LOVED the creature designs, especially, Medusa! Badass! Yeah, this remake should NOT use green-screen and NOT be shot like "300". I really liked the photography of "300", but dammmit...this is "Clash of the Titans"...treat it like "Lord of the Rings"! Build sets, shoot in real locations and of course, use WETA! Can you imagine what WETA could do? OMG! I hope they stick with Ray's designs, in some way. Im not a supporter of remakes, but holy shit this could rule, if done right. Make it rated R too =)
-
cast as the Argonauts. Might work. It's no dumber than than this entire "remake" concept. What's the point without Harryhausen?
-
It should be epic, not constrained to a studio. But, honestly, it's nothing without Harryhausen's passion. You know damn well they'll eventually remake all of Harryhausen's classics (crappy CGI in lieu of Mr. H's handicraft). Ah, screw it--cast High Pitch Eric (Howie Stern's beloved "sidekick") as Calibos and call it a day.
-
Why not?
-
That movie sounds awesome. Hopefully he finally makes an all out movie. Not like some people talking about an event in flashbacks or something. The Fall was amazing and all, but its time for a full out movie.
-
did you really feel it was neccesary to tell us that a movie by tarsem titled 'war of the gods' was unrelated to the same title of one episode of 'battlestar galatica'?
-
Check your Greek mythology fellows, the sea creature [though not called Kraken] IS an important part of the myth! Perseus saves Andromeda from it, some what like in the movie! Of course, the Hydra was not in the Jason myth, but I bet you do not mind that! Aaron Sims WAS designing the creatures for this when Norington was directing, I hope they keep him on board!
-
it'd be fucking great... I've been watching Sunny too much...
-
They will fuck it up. I love the original and I saw it in the theater.
-
Hath Begun(eth) was pretty funny, I thought!
-
. AND FAWK YUUUUUU. harryhausen should skullfuck the fuckhairs in charge of this.
-
I think this is actually one of the better choices for a remake out there and so far I like what I've been hearing - colour me cautiously optimistic...
-
Everything ever from no on MUST have a cameo by Obama.EVERYTHING.
-
"Hercules, the Cyclops tore my dress."
-
It'll be included on the DVD's "deleted scenes".
-
...the MCP from TRON? Master Control Program? Remember the big red cylindrical face guy? The main baddie? The one that Flynn and TRON disable and ultimately 'kill'? The guy with the eyes so far apart that he might be related to a flounder? Or a halibut? Is it just me?<p
