    Sorry Joss

    by tolomey

But I just can't seem to get excited about this, then again maybe I'm not the target audience for it. I have to say that I can't stand Buffy, hate it with a passion in fact and Angel doesn't really fare much better.
Firefly however was incredible and I enjoyed Serenity a lot (still hurts to see Wash dead tho).
Dollhouse however looks kinda dead in the water, the dialouge from the trailer was just flat out cheesy and the concept sounds kinda interesting but I just know it's gonna get bogged down in typical Wheedon sentimental bullshit.
Dushku is kinda easy on the eyes tho.
By the way guys, where is the Fringe talkback? That show is great, even Joshua Jackson is kinda likeable in that show but it's the mad scientist father that steals the show.

I don't think I'm too good for Buffy

    by tolomey

I just find that the supposedly hip and cool dialouge grates on me. It's not as if I haven't tried, my girlfriend loves Buffy and Angel, she owns them all on VHS and over the last year I've seen pretty much every episode.
I will admit that Angel is the better of the two but again it's the dialouge that tries so hard to be hip and cool that let's it down.
Like I said before, I don't hate all Wheedon's work, Firefly was one of the best shows in recent memory and is something I will watch again and again in the coming years, but Dollhouse seems to me like it will be going back down the Angel and Buffy roads of corny and hackneyed scriptwriting.
Then again, this is just a trailer and I'm not going to flat out declare it the worst show ever made and yes I will probably watch the first 3 or 4 episodes before making up my mind, all I'm saying is I'm not sure it's for me.

Slice of awesome. Not the fan vid - Michelle Willaims? The hell? - but the idea. There's a spoiler recap of a Dollhouse episode up (1st? 2nd? The guy is not too sure) which I throughly enjoyed. Would have enjoyed it more if the dude recapping didn't try for a TWOP vibe. Where as TWOP is lovingly snarky, this guy came off confusing and a little douchy.

    CNN Has Been Duped!!!

    by media messiah

That wasn't a hologram. Clearly it was just simple green-screening of a live shot...and it was not impressive at all. They just used multiple cameras so that they could matte in any angle of the static human subject they wanted. From the clips I saw, it was just front, and 3 quarter angle side and back views. This was not new technology, you could do this with old equipment from ten years ago, or even 20 years ago, in terms of the visual!!! So again, this is not new!!!Now, I have something new for Hollywood. A technology that can really make regular 3-D projection look like a joke. In fact, you could do it for much less money, with zero need for 3D glasses...and no need to film movies in 3D!!! But this would be used for films, theatre, and other events where projection is used. What is it??? I'm not saying. I'm not going to give away this type of information and not get paid for it!!!

so that kid who made the Faith video....what's with the Alex thing for Xander? i realize his name was Alexander but he's never gone by anything other than Xander so why would he suddenly change it now? this sounds like the sorta thing a network would wanna do to "mature him". anyway as retarded as the video was, i'll give him props for picking good footage for the non-buffy/angel shows. but i am confused, why does this site call that Slayer School when the video was called Faith. anyway i'll give Dollhouse a try, but the way its already being treated, i wont be surprised to see a Complete Series DVD collection by 2009's end. its Fox afterall.

Get your timelines straight. Tru Calling was here and gone before JLH's breasts ever dragged her to an audition for Ghost Whisperer. And Tru didn't talk to ghosts, she time-traveled. Tru got cancelled just as the developing mythology (Dad killed Mom and is mentoring Jack) was getting really interesting. Also, never forgive CBS for making room for JLH's breasts by cancelling Joan of Arcadia, another show who's storylines were heating up. The fact that 8 million viewers isn't enough to get a show renewed is proof that the major networks just don't understand the current landscape of modern television viewing.

    by spiketbb

sort of reminds me of the current incarnation of the Weapon X Project in Wolverine comics. Right down to the memory wipe.
Not that I consider that a bad thing. I'm going to stick with this regardless, just from my love of Dushku.
For those who say Dushku can't act, I was wondering if you have watched Sex and Breakfast? I thought she was very believable in that and made her character very true to life. But it is a sort of melancholy romance movie so not everyone would be into it. Still, damn she looked great as always.

    by spiketbb

I don't think a shows creator gets much say in the creation of the promos. I've sometimes wondered if the directors etc get frustrated at how badly a network can misrepresent their show with an ad. Many times they will even give something away that they shouldn't have or just give it the wrong feel of things.
I remembered a promo during Alias, back when Sydney and her sister were working as a team. The season had gotten really dark but the promo had them running around to that cheesy song "There never were two more devoted sisters". What ever the hell that was from. It stuck in my head because it was so amazingly stupid.

    Misrepresenting ads

    by rodneyoz

The best ever that I've seen was when Fox 8 in Australia decided to put together an ad for several adventure and fantasy shows that were being repeated. The thinking must have been, "Hey, we have this great shot of Buffy running off this tower in slow motion and diving into this cool looking pool of blue energy! That will be a great way to illustrate and begin our ad about how exciting our shows are!" Of course, said shot pulled out of context was from the end of Buffy series 5 - it was of her sacrificing herself. That is, it was of her death. Well done.

I read that as well. What made it sting even more to me is that Spike was also supposed to be part of it, her costar. Knocked Marsters out of another steady job and a chance to further develop Spike outside of Buffy and Angel's shadow.
By the later season's I had become more interested and empathetic with Faith over Buffy and Spike over all because of their character growth and potential. Would love to see that series more than anything else being produced on air these days.

    by punto

it's just the same every episode. Something weird happens, Walter explains it in terms that a grown up would understand ("the air molecules expand inside the elastic container"), the FBI chick looks at Pacey, so he explains it in terms a child would understand ("it's like a baloon!"). Then walter goes on a rant about how back in the 60s he did some similar reserch, but it led nowhere, somebody must have picked up the work. They do some police work, save the victim. The "pattern" thing is kinda interesting, but the "case of the week" dynamic doesn't work at all.

    It's a trailer people.

This much bitching and whining is not warranted until anyone has actually seen the damn thing.

Previous Docu-trailer was a lot better

    by drath

I had a stronger sense of what it was about from that--this on the other had looks like it'll really confound people who thought the pilot for My Own Worst Enemy was too convoluted (morons).

ArcadianDS: About The Faith TV Series!!!

    by media messiah

I know what you mean with concerns about Faith being a series for teenage girls, but what they should do is make it with an older demo in mind...as Buffy fans have gotten older, so it would have to be sexier and more mature...and I'd aim it toward males. The females will show up for Joss and thanks to the show being a spin off of Buffy...but I'd make it more sexual, where we would be dealing with a woman who is now in her mid twenties and tackling the kinds of sex issues and subject matter explored on Sex In The City and the L-Word. The feel should be more toward Supernatural and Chuck in terms of structure.

sorry if I made timeline errors, my bad... it just seems like Ghost has been on forever now, I didnt think Tru Calling was that old. But your description of the differences between both shows is really helpful to remind me how much dumber both shows are than I remembered from the few episodes I've seen of each!

what's with the "for teenage girls" BS?

    by necgray

I'm absolutely interested in the show now. I didn't know much about it other than Whedon and Dushku. Now I see the promo, I can get into it. Harry Lennox? Hells yeah! And if you just looked at Buffy based on a half-minute promo you might think that was "for teenage girls", too. Or how about the movie Teeth? I love Ginger Snaps. Does that mean I'm a teenage girl?

tolomey: buffy dialogue is bad but Fringe???

    by necgray

How can you like the mad scientist old guy on Fringe and complain about the dialogue in Buffy and Angel? That character in Fringe is written so heavy-handed I'm surprised the writer can leave his keyboard. It's the most forced, ridiculous pseudo-crazy I've ever heard. Every time he opens his mouth I want to shove my shoe in it.

    Not a "Total Recall" ripoff

    by dennismm

Nope. This is a ripoff of Joe Haldeman's "All My Sins Remembered." An agent is sent into the field with layers of false memory, not even knowing who he is but programmed to take extreme action if needed, without forethought or regret. The only difference is that Haldeman's agents were disguised physically as well, to the point where they might be completely unrecognizable. We'll see if Whedon can beat Haldeman; I suspect not.
