The MONSTERS VS. ALIENS Trailer!!

Published at:  Nov 04, 2008 12:39:35 PM CST

Merrick here...

Honestly, I haven't been following this film too closely...although I hear the IMAX guys are pretty happy with what they've seen so far (it'll hit IMAX 3-D screens alongside its regular release).

I believe this trailer (or a version much like it) may've actually leaked a while back, but was quickly banished from the Internets.

It's back again...better quality this time...and attached to MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA if I'm not mistaken.

Here's an embed, via TRAILER ADDICT.

    by u-stu.com

Even without that pathetic wannabe stoner blank face visible, Seth Rogen still manages to suck. He's the exact same character in everything and wasn't even really decent in Freaks and Geeks. I remember not liking him back then. I'm sorry what he's done to you Green Hornet. If only Stephen Chow could fire Rogen and his goons.

    by lochkray

Cute. Not inovative, engaging, overly inviting, or appearing to be of any significance - but then again, its Dreamworks after all, not Pixar.
I wonder whatever happened at Dreamworks Animation after Shrek came out? Did Katzenberg say "We did it great this time, but I think we shot too high. Now everybody, work towards mediocrity. Think Antz, not Shrek! And keep making Shrek sequels in every way imaginable until people are tired of him too!"
I don't dislike Dreamworks' animation products. They're just so, so....Ice Age.

I think the question is: Why are you bothering to ask why people are saying its true? Its a fucking cartoon. The line is in the film to make people laugh by poking fun at the movie industries habbit of always having the Aliens land is America.

Technically - no UFO's landed in those films. And when a UFO did [crash] land in Independence Day - it was in America 'k?

So it is true. Hope that explains.

    Pixar - Ugh

    by snakesonabicycle

Every Pixar STORY is essentially the same. Toys - has to find a way back "home". Finding Nemo - has to find a way back "home". Incredibles - has to find a way back "home". Cars - has to find a way back "home". EVERY SINGLE FREAKING PLOTLINE involves someone or thing trying to find their way back to their family, friends, or actual home. I like how they do what they do, but maybe that's just because they have pratice at least at it's core, of doing the same thing over and over. I'd really like to see them branch out and take on more serious fare.

Actually, I like the choices for the Monsters. Pretty much every type of monster that appeared in the 50's: Alien Invaders (War of the Worlds), Giant insect creature (Mothra and Them), The Gillman from Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Blob, and a radioactively altered human (The Amazing Colossal Man or the Attack of the 60 Foot Woman. I just hope the movie is a little funnier than the trailer.

There's room for Pixar and Dreamworks

    by cdubbs727

I love Pixar. I think WALL-E is the best film of 2008 so far and everything they've done is pure gold. But I think many of Dreamworks' animated films have been fun. "Shrek" and even "Shrek 2" were funny, "Bee Movie" amused me and I screened "Madagascar 2" last night and thought it was passable fun.

I look at it like this. Dreamworks is making the zany, Looney Tunes-type of cartoons with big star voices, slapstick comedy and the like. And I thought "Kung Fu Panda" was a big step up for them. They're making full-length "Looney Tunes" esque films.

Pixar is making the "Sleeping Beauty," "Snow White" and "Pinocchios." They're doing the more serious, ambitious stuff. And they're knocking it out of the park thus far. But sometimes you want the deeper films with a big heart and sometimes you want a good chuckle. I'm fine with them both. It's Blue Sky that tends to bother me.

What the hell? Antz is probably the BEST animated feature Dreamworks ever did! I'd be THRILLED if Dreamworks did more movies as good as Antz. Anyways, if this trailer is the same as the leaked one from several months back, I actually found it to look very good. I actually laughed out lous at least three or four times, which is always a good sign ("SoooOOOOOOOoooooosan! Ooooo, just scared myself!"). Awesome 50's-style monster homages, as well (although the 50-foot woman *does* bear an unfortunately strong resemblance to Mirage from The Incredibles).

Disney and Pixar ruined Animation for audiences worldwide.

    by derlanghaarige

They made/make these great, epic animated movies for decades! And that's okay. The world would be a much poorer place without Snow White, The Lion King or Wall-E, but now we expect from every fucking animated movie an epic tale that will touch our heart and change our live. So if someone decides to make just a comedy instead of an epic tale, the trash talking starts,
Listen, you will never hear me say stuff like: "Check your brain at the door" (Because that's pretty much like saying: "Only morons can enjoy this movie!") or "Did you expect Citizen Kane?". And I don't wanna defend the "quality" of stinkers like Shark Tale, but face it: Animation is an art form. And with this you can cover every genre in the world! And if a studio decides to make "just" a comedy, why not? We accept animated comedy on TV so why not in theatres? We accept simple comedies as live action, but not as animation? Would Dumb & Dumber be more or less popular if it would be an animated movie? You know what? Madagascar is definitely not on the same level as Toy Story, but I laughed more than once during that movie and I guess that's what it was made for.

    UFO's in the US...

    by pdennett316

Yes, those are some fine examples of movies where the UFO's landed elsewhere - but the world is almost always fucking saved by the fucking Yanks!!! The focus is always on them, other countries are merely mentioned in passing.
Plus, looking from a "real life" perspective, the vast majority of UFO sightings/abductions seem to originate from the US. That, of course, plays into the stereotype of braindead hicks getting their asses probed....but stereotypes are fucking funny.
This looks great, and I get the feeling the monsters were supposed to be shit - as in a last throw of the dice type deal. If the DESIGN of the monsters is what was referred to, they look pretty good to me. Love the 50ft baby bag of fluff thing.

UFO's in the US, a different take

    by continentalop

As I mentioned earlier, I believe this movie is a tribute to 50's movies. And if that's the case, it might take place in the 50's where you never see a UFO land anywhere BUT the USA. Sure, they mention other UFO in other parts of the world in War of the Worlds and there is the crashed spaceship in Antarctica in the Thing, but even in those films the only people who we see interacting with them is Americans. The US has always been American-centric in our films regarding spaceships, and the rest of the world recognizes that. In England, the had a radio play made about the British’s experience during the movie the Independence Day, and one of the Brits predicts after they destroy one of the giant ships that the Americans will take all the credit for beating the aliens.

I agree. I was going to mention that in my comment but it slipped my mind. However, I was trying to explain WHY the newscaster says UFOs only crash in the US. While admitting to the fact that these films are made for-and-by Americans, you still can't ignore the fact that if those movies somehow represented historical fact, it would seem spaceships only crash in the US and not anywhere else. And now that we have robbed that joke of all its humor, I’ll move on.

    by continentalop

Real-D is a digital projection system. Basically, it is how they project the 3-D film. It is not the best, according to a friend of mine who works on 3-D movies (Dolby's is supposed to be the best) but it is cheaper and easier for Theatres to use. True 3-D is the process of how they are making the film. With most animated 3-D features, they create the movie and than alter it afterwards by creating a duplicate frame for each frame and than moving it slightly so when it is projected your eye seems the corresponding frame as being in a different distance from your eye (but NOT a different angle), creating a 3-D look. Now True 3-D you are creating two frames for ever frame in the very beginning - each one is designed to appear as if it was being looked at by a different eye so the distance and the angle is slightly different for each of them. You can create 3-D but not True 3-D on your Final Cut if you want. It is a very simple process.

While I usually prefer to see a movie with meaning and significance. I'm not stuck up enough to deny just a simple fun comedy. It's true, had Dumb and Dumber been animated, sure as shit people here would be sticking their noses up and walking the other way. Fuckers.

Fantastic trailer. Lots of potential there.

If the really ramp the satirical references to actual monster/alien movies, like what the first Shrek did for fairy tales, I'll be really REALLY satisfied. I really liked the way the jets firing upon the spaceship was so much like Independence Day. On the other hand, I didn't much like the design of the alien character. A little too Pinky & the Brain for my tastes. It would be way better if the aliens remained unseen in the trailer and for the majority of the movie, a la War of the Worlds, with a funny reveal gag at the end.
