Quint needs suggestions for the annual Holiday Shopping Guide!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It’s that time of year again… the leaves are changing color… not here, in Texas, but elsewhere, I’m sure… the cold weather is just starting and since it’s a couple of days after Halloween now every department store, grocery store, mall and pharmacy are filled to the brim with Christmas shit.
Useless Christmas shit, more than not.
For the last... what? Five years? I think five years… anyway, for a long while I’ve been spending my Novembers searching the internet for the best geek shit and compiling them all into a series of massive articles that are posted right on Thanksgiving Day, the day before Black Friday. It’s my annual Holiday Shopping Guide, but I can’t do it alone.
I need you folks to email me your ideas. I’m open to everything. DVDs, electronics, toys, models, action figures, geek furniture of all sorts, clothes, video games, art, books, any kind of collectibles, crazy shit for my “For The Super Rich Only” category... I need your thoughts and suggestions. I'm looking for what you're personally drooling for this year with a special interest in the really unique ideas.
And if you work for a company with something you really think is right for the Guide, I'm also interested in hearing from you. Any and all suggestions! Now's the time!
Here’s a link to last year’s Guide so you guys can see what I’m going for.
I look forward to your suggestions!

Uh.. a dildo? DAMN!

between Judd Apatow and DGDB. A Jonas. A furby. A Jason Segel body part I have not seen.
-
I'm putting my lot in with Obama, but no matter who you like, just VOTE!!!
-
Nah, just kidding. I don't care.
-
It rules. And the Iron Man helmet is very cool too. I highly recommend it if you have the means.
-
Thanks, Santa.
-
That's a nice dvd collection (book, etc.) ...and more affordable than purchasing the seasons individually. I may end up picking that up for... (cough, cough) my son.
-
Now THOSE would make a nice stocking stuffer 3-pack, on dvd or Blu-ray.
-
No, I don't mean Sleepless In Seattle 2. I sent you my suggestion! Check your mailbox!
-
Quint,
I think given the current economy and people losing jobs left and right, it may be a bit more appropriate to create a list of what we should all be thankful for rather than a list of useless crap nobody needs. Just a thought. -
Looks like it should be a lot of fun to play and put together some crazy movie-inspired levels.
-
No, in fact it's these Kim Possible DVD-Boxes, that came out in Germany and nowhere else in the world and that I'm heavily pimping almost everywhere for a while.
-
I'll get that for Harry.
-
...the goose is getting fat. That sounded creepy. Sorry...little early for that sort of thing.

Make your Own Latex Monster Mask or go 3D CGI
by dracula_wants_the_amulet
Monster Makers dot com Mask Makers kit. It has everything you need to sculpt paint and make a wearable latex mask. It comes with a book on how to sculpt it as well...
Basic Mask Makers Kit pick the $195 version. Don't get the $175 one you wont be able to make a mold or build a wall for the 2 part mold with the EM217 clay.
http://tinyurl.com/5uujvg
Go Deluxe and you get an air brush! Cost for the Deluxe is $395
Zbrush 3.1
http://tinyurl.com/563vpt
The same tool ILM, Weta, Gentle Giant Studios, and Electronic Arts use to sculpt characters for films toys and games.
All of the digital Monsters in the Mist movie were made with it. Just about every Gentle Giant bust is made with it, and the best part of all is the price.
$595 dollars is all you need to enter this world of digital sculpting. compared to other programs that retail for 3 grand, and those programs don't even offer the intuitive level of digital sculptery that Zbrush does.
The community forum is full of generous helpful users, and theres tons of guides, tips and tricks and lessons, so you can learn the program quicker.
If you ever had a passing interest in Digital Characters.
This is the first program you should learn if you want to make them. Even better you don't need a Mega Powerful PC to run the program. If it runs Vista and has 2 gigs of Ram or more- You're good to go! No need for a mega expensive graphics card. The program is Ram dependant.
Those are my suggestions. Every year we give out gifts like games and films, and those are cool, but what about a gifts that teach a skill- thats fun, never becomes boring, and may one day lead to a really kick ass job as a creature/character creator... These are those kinds of gifts for the monster and creature fan geeks. -
...I wouldn't tell anybody that the monsters in The Mist were made with that. I'm sure it's a good program, it's just the wrong example :D
-
What a great game. It plays like a great sci-fi horror film. Toss in the DVD prequel Deadfall for extra. It's standard animation for anime, but it is quite gory, and sets up the game nicely.

Please get us out of this economic nightmare.

is that enough Quint?

1. The reinstatement of my old username.
2. A public apology from AICN for my banning a while back.
3. The reinstatement of everyone else who was banned during the entire ScriptGirl fiasco.
4. That the Holiday Shopping Guide is a useful piece of journalism and not just an excuse to put up loads of Amazon links for pocket lining purposes.
5. If you do put up Amazon and other related links, that the profits go to charity (It is Christmas after all).
6. Oh yeah, and some unbiased, non-corporate, plant free, no bullshit, film reviews would be 'cool' too. -
You guys are already pushing that shit pretty hard.

Check that geeky shit out. -
so maybe i can celebrate x-mas next year.

Hell ya bro!

Sideshow collectibles SELLS OUT of pricy stuff. People trading up on cell phones. Restraunts busy. I have yet to see fantastic steals on E-Bay. When I can buy an Alex Ross "Knight Over Gotham" print on E-Bay for less than $500, then the economy will be bad. I just don't see people in such a bind that they are willing to sell their over-priced toys.
-
it's not Christmas without a major award
http://www.redriderleglamps.com/Store.cfm?category=13&position=1 -
Zbrush was used in Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3. Davy Jones wouldn't have been possible with out it. Same goes for Grendal in Beowulf.
-
Who gives a fuck? None of those cunts come to this site anyway. And on thta note: The Wire Complete Series boxset. BAM!
-
Are you seriously using eBAy as a barometer for the economy? Good grief.
-
The gift that never goes out of style.
-
Sure its cool stuff. But who the fuck is really gonna consider any of that shit? NOBODY. I'd wager the only things people might take seriously are $50 and under. So you need to expand the lower classes and realize that the wealth starts from the ground up. None of this trickle down bullshit. It just doesn't work. Fuck Reagan.
-
Hello!?
-
What else is out? WHOOOO!
-
since the start of your holiday guide. oh well, lemme try again. Virgin Galactic is selling tickets for trips to space. Now, it isn't available now, but you can reserve for space (pun intended) when the trips finally start. Cost is $200,000 per person. Check out their website: http://tinyurl.com/5hnvh6
Side bonus: if the mission fails, you become a member of the very exclusive toasted marshmallow club that a few astronauts and even fewer civilians have joined.
here's something a little more conventional: The world's second fastest production car: The Bugatti Veyron which costs $1.3 million with a top speed of 253.81 mph, you can buy here: http://tinyurl.com/4npb4d or the world's fastest (Guinness World Record confirmed) production car, American, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT, with a top speed of 256.18 mph, and a price tag of a mere $485,000. Buy American, I guess. Visit it here: http://tinyurl.com/ahz7f

Or a bong shaped like a dildo.

But I think one of the best is the "annoyatron". It's a tiny, concealable device that makes an annoying BEEP sound in VARYING intervals from like 2 to 8 minutes. As soon as they think they've timed it out and can predict when it will beep again, it does it at a different interval, making it almost impossible to pinpoint, location-wise. Huge fun.

Direct link to the annoyatron. But also check out the zombie rights shirt.
"Zombies are(strike through) WERE people too" -
none of this Sharper Image type crap. We geeks are happy with a good movie/game/cd/book/blow job ...

How about the best Iron Man Mark I toy figure I've ever seen?
by quentintarantado
Actually this whole website is full of really good stuff, from a toy maker from Hong Kong: http://tinyurl.com/5cghf2
The Mark I features a realistic Robert Downey as Stark, a glowing heart and missiles (they don't explode, though). Ah, darn, available Quarter 1 of 2009. Well, keep it in mind for next year. Geeky enough? -
a "get out of war free" card...cuz no matter which one of these Socialist/Fascist, interventionist, morally bankrupt, elitist, class warfare promoting, big government, "Country First" twin tyrants gets into power, those of us who bust our ass, make our own way without asking for the State to steal from our neighbors, and just want to live and let live are right good and FUCKED...HARD.
-
I said it in the column http://tinyurl.com/6mk2ju and I'll definitely be buying copies of Yokai Attack! for people on my holiday gift list.
-
...is my ideal christmas present. We know you want the whole world to know how fucking cool you are for voting for someone like Obama, but it doesn't change the fact that most likely you're a douche. Like religion, keep your views to your goddamn selves. People like JDanielP are those types of people I want to pistol-whip everytime they open their mouth to vocally sodomize Obama. I am not for Republicans either, but at least they're not as obnoxious and douchious as democrats for the most part.
-
Really big time love for Waterworld? Really? It was okay, but all this clammor for 'ol vagina-neck?
-
KEVINCOSTNERS_VAGINANECKAll apologies to you Danny.
-
I've got a great idea. You could give somebody an Anakin vs Obi-Wan Sideshow diorama. I mean since you have no intention of actually awarding it to any of the contest entries you might as well give it away as a present.
You could also give away the autographed Farrelly brothers poster and all of the other contest swag that you have never awarded. -
Apple Store, E-Bay, seeing busy restraunts, ect. ect. The economy is good in Oklahoma. We don't have the Boom, but we don't have the Bust. We have a very stable economy. That being said, I feel very sorry for the national overweight workforce that is employed by companies needing BAILOUTS and have golden parachute CEOs. I thank God that I'm self employed.

That's Game with Drumset, Guitar and Microphone. For $ 190 http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Hero-World-Tour-Playstation-3/dp/B001ABN82K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1225822280&sr=8-2

Skimn you are a fucking genius!! You described my perfect Christmas!!

Is a Babylon 5 box set available?

Go Ron Paul!

OK is one of those fortunate states that appears to have their !@#$ together and is wethering the economic !@#$-storm a lot better than most of the nation. MI is getting it's ASS kicked! Anyway, the economic climate has been so unforgiving to the middle class that lists detailing gifts for those with enough disposible income is insulting to me.
-
Of course.
-
Get 10 for $15 or something like that. The picture is pretty unique.
http://tinyurl.com/cthuliday -
Damn I wish they were selling these....but apparently its just a prototype.
http://tinyurl.com/56v3mx -
Every year they have a new Star Trek & Star Wars spaceship. This year they also have a cool Trek communicator that I used as a prop with my Halloween costume (dead red shirt). They also have superhero & other movie characters, but the spaceships are the coolest & geekiest... they light up & make sound. Found in most Hallmark card stores.
-
Thanks for that, I just bought a couple of packs. They're great cards.
-
I love that site; dude makes a ton of custom Cthulhu crap that make great geek giveaways around the holidays.
-
That shit should be very cheap.

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season...
by continentalop
, it would be that all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. But whom am I kidding? What are the logistics?
-
The best shopping guide on anything anywhere. A great list.
-
You should probably put some exorcise equipment or workout aids on the list. Let's be honest, a lot of the people on this site could probably use them.
-
Oh fuck off and continue servicing that Orangutan of a wife you have. Hairy ass bitch. Even got that inner thigh hair. Nasty girl. I'll get that ride on.
-
I should have mentioned I would be one of those people who could use it. Checking Aintitcool and working a desk job doesn't really help one's physique. And I right?
-
Mmmm, go ahead and add a dictionary to that list, sparky.
-
You are right. I would like to blame my damn Orangutan of a wife and say she is distracting me, but I am single. Typos are all my own fault.
-
In your gosh darn dreams, you.....poophead! :-)
-
Even though DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD and Angelus Rex have been ripping me a new one, I agree with their assessment that you should make the list a little bit reasonable this year. While luckily I am doing OK right now, Christmas is still two months away and a lot can happen between now and then. Plus, many of my friends and loved ones are struggling right now, so I would love to be able to put something on my list they can actually afford. And if I make a suggestion for a present that fits my earlier comment about keeping fit, I recommend the book "Becoming Batman: the Possibility of a Superhero."
-
Continentalop, not really sure how much EXERCISE you'll get from flipping pages in a book. Buut, best of luck to ya buddy!
-
I guess I deserve that zinger for my bad set up to my suggestion. However, the book is an explanation about how one becomes Batman. It explains how much training and working out would be required for, using science to glean cues as to how Bruce Wayne got to where he is. While I am not delusional enough to think I can wear a cape and fight crime, it does motivate me enough to get out of the house and work out again, rejoin martial arts and become more active. That is why I suggested it.
-
I really hope no one thinks that's a political statement.
-
I always make sure to include as much sub-$30 things as I can. Those are the majority of the entries, actually, but part of the fun of the column for me is the window-shopping aspect. There's some really cool expensive shit out there... but never fear, I'm looking for real, tangible gift options. Keep the suggestions coming. The response has been incredible so far!
-
I remember just being inspired by that Space Ghost desk a few years ago. Mind blowing! Even though I could never afford it.
-
No worries bud, just keeping light and fun around here. Good luck with the exercise!
-
Don't worry, I never took anything you wrote as being a serious insult or anything, just a little harmless ribbing. As for the working out, I just got done seeing my trainer and puking, so I am going to look at that as a positive accomplishment today.
-
The best Wii game and it has a Spielberg connection.
-
some other geeky sci-fi/horror mag.
-
Got one for my birthday recently... it rocks (literally & figuratively)
-
Best laptop, GPS, HD tv, Blu ray player and burner, mp3 player, and other gadgets I am missing that are cool prices. The cheapest.
Maybe an oddball suggestion the best NEW American or foreign made car for mpg and price.
