ANGELS & DEMONS Teaser Online! You Are Thrilled!

Published at:  Oct 30, 2008 11:23:52 PM CDT

Beaks here...

I just read over at Deadline Hollywood Daily that Ron Howard's ANGELS & DEMONS is the fifth most anticipated movie of 2009 (behind HARRY POTTER VI, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and PUBLIC ENEMIES). I guess this means there are people out there who actually liked THE DA VINCI CODE. Weird.

For those of you who want to see Tom Hanks chase around those Illuminati rascals for another seven hours, it's my duty to inform you and my pleasure to warn you that the remarkably uneventful ANGELS & DEMONS teaser is available for viewing at the film's official site. I'm told there are easter eggs hidden within the teaser, so happy hunting.

ANGELS & DEMONS opens all over the goddamn place on May 15, 2009.

THE DA VINCI CODE wasn't all that bad.

    by lonegun

It lacked the charm of the novel but was still a harmlessly entertaining time-waster. ANGELS & DEMONS is poised to be a much more exciting movie, because the book was action-packed in a way CODE wasn't. It's darker and more menacing.

It's not that people liked "DaVinci Code"

    by zacdilone

It's that "Angels and Demons" is a VASTLY superior book, and I think a far better film prospect than TDC, which was laughable as a book before it was laughable as a movie. A&D, though, is far more accessible, and as much as I hated the first film, I have to say I'm looking forward to this.

Da Vinco Code sucked as a book, and it sucked as a movie

    by holodigm

When I read it, it felt like the author said "Hey I have a great idea for a movie...shit, I write books! Oh well, I'll just write a shitty book version and hope the movie turns out awesome." But lo and behold, the movie was somehow worse. Don't care if this book was better, I'm not going to spend any more time on that shitty writer.

Yep, Angels & Demons is a better read. In fact they both come from a same template... there are beat by beat parallels to two books. Though it is case with ALL Dan Brown books, but more pronounced with Da Vinci and A&D than any other.
A&D has scope for more action and less talking.

    by lonegun

Most people don't even know what it is. The film has no major stars. The trailer is totally incomprehensible. It's notable to admirers of the comic book, but to the Average Joe it means nothing. A great deal of young comic book readers don't even know what it is. The fact is more people probably ARE looking forward to ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS. (Not me, mind you.) This is not to say, however, that WATCHMEN won't become one of 2008's biggest films, which it very well could. It's just that the collective fervor toward the movie's release is limited to a cult following at present.

Judging by Da Vinci Code (i've refused to read any of the others), DB should be writing in fucking crayon. He might have a somewhat interesting concept, but his writing is fucking awful! The movie was shit, because you know the concept, so you know the interesting part, and all you're left with is the shit story and the shit characters. I have no idea what Angels & Demons is about other than its set in the vatican, and some guy who sounds like Awec Baawin thinks now is the perfect time for revenge! What a crock of shit. This is not even in my Top 100! Avatar is the only film I'm truly excited about. BTW, no one other than the geeks know what the fuck Watchmen is!

But facee the fucking faccts, even back in 86, it still wasn't mainstream, and it ain't now. Just be glad it's been shot and being released...maybe. Trek will do a lil better, but not by much, because...it's Trek. And nobody but trekkies and geeks gives 2/5th a fuck all. As a book, at least. Hopefully as a movie too. Gotta admit I'm totally sick of epic shots of real places from the sky that still just look utterly unconvincing and CG. Nothing is that clean! Personally, I am not that exited about Dan Brown's work so far. A mediocre hack who writes his novels so they are easy to adapt. Plus Davinci Code was a complete rip off of his own Angels and Demons to begin with. I was watching Apollo 13 (same director and star) the other day again on DVD and that is an awesome movie, despite the fact that everybody knows the ending. Now, I wondered why they couldn't make DaVinci Code work... (Although there was a hint of movie magic in the final two minutes if I remember correctly)

Though I'm interested and have read about The Priory of Zion and the story of Mary Magdalene scuttling off to Europe, I can't stand Dan Brown or Ron Howard's fiction. They're both accomplished storytellers, money and fame-wise, but they're also bland as tofu.
The story of what really happened to Jesus, if you believe he existed at all, and the subsequent striving to keep Jesus' and Mary Magdalene's bloodline alive through the centuries under the Catholic Church's despotic clutches is a tremendously compelling story. I'm still not sure what I believe and don't believe about it, but the story itself cuts the heart out of what every Christian believes. It's an alternate telling of history, one where Jesus was just a man and not the son of god. It cuts the "Christ" out of "Christian."
Thus I was disappointed by Dan Brown and Ron Howard. I know Brown's book sold faddishly huge numbers, but I don't give a shit. The story he wrote was boring and milktoast, Howard's film even more so.
So now we're getting "Angels and Demons" by the same filmmaker, huh? Whoop de frickin' doo.

    by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks

I only managed to get through about 10 pages of Da Vinci. I was looking forward to it so much, however the writing was almost at a Dr Suess level. Now I'm no literary snob, hell I read Dean Koontz even though I'm pretty sure every story will result in a man, a woman and a gifted dog. It was quite simply the worst novel I ever attempted to read. Now having said that, I was aware that the 'plot' was still supposed to be pretty solid, so I waited in anticipation of the Ron Howard, Tom Hanks version. Howard is pretty hit and miss for me, but Hanks usually shows a savvy choice for quality projects. What is funny is that I have attempted to watch it twice. The first time I fell asleep(This has never happened to me before) and on the second viewing, when they replayed how they hid in the airplane hanger I turned it off in fuckin disgust. Thats as many attempts as I am willing to give it. You sellout fucks will never pollute me again.

Instead of creating a nifty, multi-century thiller involving power figures and possible riddles in great works of art, it was a boring pseudo-lecture that pretended to give ANSWERS to the supposed riddles. Console yourself, sir, I'm in total sympathy. Read book and watched movie and wished I didn't (though doing both gives me the moral right to bitch). Da Vinci code was awful, calling the caricatures in the book "characters" is an offense against common sense. Movie was uninteresting though I love McKellen's droll narrative dropped in the middle of the movie like a rose growing out of horse fertilizer. Author, director and actors coming together again to make zillions of dollars is as inevitable as High School Musical 4. Shit happens, like children get abused, poor people starve to death, good people die. And A&D becomes a movie and a megahit.

Can't wait for the movie. There are definite parallels between A&D and TDC. But what I like is how Dan Brown takes little scraps of fact, and weaves them together in such a convincing way that you really think he's an authority on things like the knights templar, or the illuminati.

Code had its moments and I find the concepts, however debunked (or is it misleading debunking - aha!), fascinating. A & D is sure to be equally hated by those who are Catholic/Christain/devoutly religious. I found it a more gripping read. Haven't seen the Code movie; time to add it to Netflix list.
People who think Brown is bad need to try some of the other books that turn up on NY Times, etc. best-selling fiction lists, which are far worse.

isn't it just the same story AGAIN?

    by maniaq

how stupid does Howard believe ppl are that they're NOT going to guess who's the bad guy IMMEDIATELY?
I won't go so far as to say Dan Brown is a HACK writer - he writes PULP fiction, and while he may have enough popular appeal to get a Da Vinci movie over the line, I can't help BUT think this one is going to tank.
The word of mouth will not be kind.
This should have been a TV movie - and whoever owns the option on Digital Fortress should think seriously hard about not aiming any higher than, say, Direct To DVD...

Just fell asleep to Da Vinci Code...

    by cheif brody

The movie...not the book. Broadcast premiere was tonite on TNT. The made-for-TNT-TV-movie 'The Librarian' promos looked more interesting. Seriously...I fell asleep once McKellen turned out to be the bad guy....which is the equivilent of Marcus...or Sallah...turning out to be the bad guy in 'Raiders'.

    Book was ridiculous

    by avengerdude

"Angels and Demons" was one of the stupidest books I have ever read. CERN making ant-matter with no-one noticing, an impossible symbol burnt on someone's chest which was on the cover of the book, etc, etc.
I don't hold out much hope for the film.

The above post should have read anti-matter: mind you CERN could have made ants easier than that amount of anti-matter.

The fucking 90's? Castaway 2: Rise of Wilson ... is what we'll gonna get. Because this is the age of prequels. And riseness. Prequels and riseness.

    ambigram on he cover

    by bbsloth

Avengerdude, the symbol burnt into the chest was illuminati, the one on the cover was Angels & Demons. And I don't see how that makes it a bad book.

    book make my head hurt

    by staldo

the book, in Dan Brown's typical halfassed fashion, describes Tom Hanks' character as Harrison Ford in Harvard tweed. So why the hell didn't they get Ford to play the character? Because, at his age, he'd fall asleep during filming this dull-as-shit book beloved by pseudo-intellectual community college students in flyover states. But the sequel? I think there would have been enough action for it to work as a Ford vehicle-maybe an Indiana Jones for his golden years. After finding the literal holy grail in Jones, why not have him in a movie where the grail is actually a biblical chick's vagina?

This better show some fucked up shit

    by dirtsandwich

I didn't read the book but, Da Vinci was a decent movie but one without a sack. Come on Cunningham, Nolan showed us a darker world. It's needs to get darker. This is the type of movie to do it. Da Vinci was pg-13, this better have a R rating.

    RE: DOLPH

Reformatted as a sequel? How does that work? The Catholic church were the bad guys in the Da Vinci code, and now Langdon is supposed to help them in a sequel? Seems a little counter intuitive.
