Ice Cube To Write & Produce Proposed NBC Cop Show!!

Published at:  Oct 29, 2008 11:11:21 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Ice Cube, who wrote or co-wrote screenplays for New Line's three big-screen “Friday” comedies as well as “The Player’s Club,” will write and produce a cop series for NBC.

The former Niggaz with Attitude vocalist (he rapped on the NWA hit "Fuck Tha Police") and "Are We Done Yet?" star may or may not appear in any pilot or series that emerges from his efforts.

"As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent both on-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, who’s multitalented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with," NBC co-chair Ben Silverman said. "He’s had an amazing career, to have gone from NWA to this."

Under Silverman’s leadership, NBC has over the last year shepherded “American Gladiators,” “Phenomenon,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” “America’s Toughest Jobs,” “My Own Worst Enemy,” “Crusoe,” “Kath & Kim” and “Knight Rider” to the small screen.

For almost a decade, NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" has starred Cube's fellow rapper and "Trespass" co-star Ice-T as detective Odafin Tutuola.

What's the definition of "Sellout" again?

    by cletus van damme

...I think it's someone who makes money bashing cops with a song called "Copkiller" and then goes on to make money acting on/writing police dramas.Talk out of both sides of your mouth much?Wait, I'm sorry....I meant "Talk out bof sidez o' yo' mouf' much, foo?"

Hitler to Write & Produce "The Winds of War" Remake!

Yes, I know it would make more sense for Hitler to do that than for a criminal rapper to do a police series, but still...

    by nathan0774

It's been twenty years since he did that song! Perhaps the man has matured... (unlike some of you all apparently). I think if you were to call the man a sellout it would have been when he made any movie after Boyz In Tha Hood! Cut him some slack. He's not being a hyprocrite just cause he wants to write a cop show! Besides... we haven't seen it yet. Perhaps he wants to address some of the issues he used to rap about! Ya'll are tooo harsh!

But, since T's also a big sellout involved w/ a cop show, I'll say no more. . .

    by mosquito march

If it's not going to be as good as the three shows I mentioned, it isn't worth making or watching. Given the huge number of shitty films Cube has been making, I don't see this being a winner. So, fuck it.

    fellow rapper?
It's really kind of a stretch to call Ice-T a rapper. Also, listen to Endangered Species for a good Ice Cube song. He fell off a long time ago. Good in Three Kings though.

    Life of Ghosts on Mars

    by crazybubba

John Carpenter's the director. Ice Cube is undercover narc who gets knocked in the head by snoop dog and wakes up back in the 80's in Compton with his old jerry-curl and raiders cap. The chief of police is james gandolfini as the italian version of daryl gates. This is genius as soon as rodney king gets out of celebrity rehab 2 they can cast him as DEA agent.

Compairing David Duke's deap hearted racism to some young punk rappers upset at police because they can't walk down the street looking like hoodlums without being treated like hoodlums is hardly an argument for hypocricy. Ice Cube and Ice T have both grown out of those personas. And Ice T in particular I feel was just trying to sell records. They all wanted to sell records! David Duke is a racist pig and only wats to live among white people. He hates black people and jews! How can you compare??

    Big Bad Ice Cube

    by leftfoot

Remember Ice Cube's rap version of the 3 little pigs titled, "the Big Bad Wolf".
Maybe they could use that as the theme music for the cop show. Give a "Pushing Daisies" feel. ..... I should slap myself for think stuff like this.
