HOME BREW... Looks like McKenzie Bros. Action Figures are set to be made!

Published at:  Jun 30, 1999 10:18:35 PM CDT

Ya know folks... Sometimes there is coolness that as a Geek I never thought I would ever see. Among these dreams I felt I would never see frutation to is the upcoming YELLOW SUBMARINE line from McFarlane Toys... and now... I dare not speak it for fear of jinxing it. But I never ever dreamed I'd see or hear the following. God bless the McFarlane Toy Company. They are just too cool. Now... If only DeLuca and NEW LINE strike a deal with Todd to handle the LORD OF THE RINGS line... then my wet panties will be see-through! Oh... Wait... Ummm... I don't wear panties I mean. Umm.. Yeah... Right. Manly man... Uh huh, yup... Boxers all the way!

got this from Spawn.com -

Due out next year, The McKenzie Brothers action figures, better known as Bob
and Doug McKenzie (a.k.a. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, respectively) from
SCTV, the 1983 movie Strange Brew, and their run as pitchmen for their
favorite beverage - beer, will appear in their famous flannel and tuques
(hats), toting beer bottles with other planned accessories. With more than
100 websites dedicated to these two Canadian beer-loving icons, the creative
team of Moranis and Thomas decided it was time for a sequel. Home Brew, the
long-awaited sequel from Los Angeles-based Maple Palm Productions and West
End Productions, is due out in spring of 2000. Shooting begins July 19 in
Toronto, featuring Moranis and Thomas reprising their McKenzie brothers
roles, as well as Dan Aykroyd.

"As a Canadian male, there are three things that make sense to us, that are
entrenched in our psyche: hockey, the Hanson Brothers and the McKenzie
Brothers," McFarlane said. "Now, as a fan who also owns a toy company, we've
designed the first action figures ever made of the Hanson Brothers and
McKenzie Brothers. It's my way to introduce some of our 'Canadiana' to the
rest of the world."

hope it's of some use!!

    Take off!!!

    by choda

I can't wait to see a new Bob and Doug movie!! I have been wanting these guys to make a new movie for 15 years!! I just hope that Dan Akroid doesn't try to project himself too much in this movie. He should know that he is not the star here.

Turn to the dark side you hoser!!!

    Hey, hosers!

    by thoughtmachine

I am a little worried. Remember Blues Brothers 2000? Although the duo did reunite for that beer commercial last year, so we know they still have it...but...I don't know. We always wish for these things (hey, how about another Star Wars!), but how often are they any good. I anxiously await the new film, but...what does everyone else think?

You poor, innocent Americans, don't you see what's happening?

    by the_cleaner

Us Canadians will achieve world domination through a monopoly of comedy. As you sit reading this we are polishing the "killer joke" that Monty Python hinted at years ago. We have the technology, we have the talent, and we have the spare time (hockey season is over).

Word out to Todd McFarlane...your beautiful wife Mrs. Kolomyjec was my grade 10 biology teacher At John Barsby secondary in Nanaimo. That was back when you had just started the "SpiderMan" series and were showing the world how it was done. I was proud of you then, and I'm proud of you know. But I'm not so proud of some of my teen aged fantasies about my biology teacher......g*

Oh god this is better than any Christmas, even the first.

I was literally raised on SCTV. In my house it was a weekly ritual and fills my earliest memories. Strange Brew is one of the best comedy films ever, taking it's rightful place above such other brilliant works as The Burbs, Brain Candy, and Caddyshack on my list of best comedy films. I can't wait to see Home Brew, and to actually play with my BOB AND DOUG MCKENZY ACTION FIGURES!!! Todd McFarlin I take back anythin bad I ever said about you! I'm wondering what the chances of an entire SCTV set. I want my Dr. Tongue and Woody "Bruno" Tobius Jr. figures! I want Jackie Rodgers Jr! I want Rockin' Mel Slurp! I want Mrs. Prickly's Stunt Double!!

    Oh My God YES!!!

    by droz

This is gonna rock!!! I can't remember how many times I've seen the original, and have always wondered if a sequel would happen (It's not like Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas have anything better to do. Sorry, but it's true!) Just make sure to bring your jars of moths to the theater with you, just in case the movie sucks, so you can get your money back!!

3-D Stake Through the Heart! Blah!

    by uncle cracky

What about Count Floyd??? I'd much rather have an action figure of him! You know, ever since Spawn was ruined by letting Capullo scribble over McFarlane's doodles and the storyline went to shit and the crappy movie bombed, I've really lost respect for what was once a pioneer in comics. But I gotta give credit where it's due: McFarlane is a great promoter! Spawn #9 forever!

It the Hanson Brothers figures don't come with foil, it'll be a shame.

"We're puttin' on the foil, Coach! Wanna put on the foil?"

BOB: G'day, welcome to the Great White North. I'm Bob McKenzie and this is my brother Doug DOUG: How's it goin, eh?
BOB: Today's topic is...sequels. Ok, so like you make a movie that's really good, eh, like Star Wars.
DOUG: I've seen Jedi 17 times, eh?
BOB: So you want more money so you make another one, right? Ok, so, how do you make sure it doesn't suck?
    DOUG: I know, eh?
BOB: Oh, sure, your Mr. Hollywood now.
DOUG: That's right, Bob, like, my people will call your people, you hoser.
    BOB: Take off!
DOUG: I can't take off right now, I'm on the phone in negotiations with Arnold. Ok, Arnie baby, "Jingle All the Way 2" is a sure-fire hit, eh?
BOB: Oh, you suck, you knob!
DOUG: No, you suck, you gaffer!
    BOB: What's a gaffer?
    DOUG: You are so non-industry.
    BOB: Take off!
    DOUG: Take off!

Funniest 5 minutes ever filmed was Doug and Bob's homemade movie in Strange Brew. Close second: Old time hockey.

    Rush figures

Imagine what The "Neil's Drumkit" Play set accessory would cost!! Maybe Geddy could have combable hair. "Look, mommy, I'm combing Geddy's hair." "Yes but he's still ugly, sweetheart." I'd buy them! Damn straight. In a related topic, i just love telling people who think Strange Brew is "just stupid" That it is a subtle parody of hamlet, considered the greatest work of literature in the english language, then tell them THEY are stupid for not getting it.

    Happy Canada Day!!

    Canadian Duos

    by gonzo_filmmaker

I love the idea of McKenzie brothers toys but, if your going for toys based on Canadian duos you must remember the Canadian superstars Terrance and Philip! With cool voice chips AND fart chips. You dirty Uncle F****ers!

i have just decided to rent the movie again...its been quite a while and it seems that i have forgotten about this little comedy gem. I will definitely see the sequel, it's been a long time coming..As fars as the figures are concerned i am not too sure. Wouldn't it be better to spend your money on some stubby bottles and back bacon?
Oh yes, Canada is a soure of some of the most talented comedians in American entertainment. Good to see Moranis and Thomas going back to the good ol' days... "honey i shrunk the ...." and " Grace under fire" made me sad.

    ..and a beer...in a tree

    the back bacon's on me...

    by powerslave

My favorite scene from Strange Brew would have to be when Bob gets trapped in the beer storage tank, drinks all the beer, inflates to the size of a blimp, and then puts out a fire.

Thank God the Comedy Network is showing SCTV reruns daily. It makes up for them subjecting us to the "comedy" of Tom Green...

ps - when is some studio exec going to see the light and give "3D House of Pancakes" the big-screen, big-budget treatment it deserves?
