Less Than 24 Hours Left For Applications To BUTT-NUMB-A-THON X!!! Where is your App?

Published at:  Oct 29, 2008 12:51:11 AM CDT

Hey Folks, Harry here - I've got my galoshes on and I'm ready for the flood of BUTT-NUMB-A-THON 10 applications - No matter how much time I give folks, it's always that final 24 hours that brings on a Tsunami. The flood has already begun, and it seems that folks have been busy building props, doing amazing costumes or just thinking of funny & ironic situations under which to be photographed. And it seems BANGS are in for girl geeks that read AICN... I have to say... it is very nice.

But here's something that should make you all a bit paranoid, if you are in a group - and you have submitted with a number and the list of names, and I don't have all those applications, your entire group suffers. As groups are judged by their weakest link, just as much as their strongest link.

So - call your friends, make sure they've finished their apps - or lend them a hand. For example, today - Father Geek was over at my Sister's house helping her make a prop for her photo, now Father Geek didn't put her down as associated with his group, just in case he would get disqualified.

That said, some apps are too good to be punished for their associations with folks that couldn't meet the deadline, but that would mean possibly getting in, without your cohorts. So ultimately, reach out to your friends, family & loved ones that you'd like to go to BNAT with - and let them know, you care.

Meanwhile - to everyone that has submitted thus far - FUCKING AWESOME RESPONSE! The images and answers to the questions have been very well done. The Yearbook this year is going to be so much fun and you folks are a serious part of that... hell, you are the reason it rules.

And just to show you all, that progress is moving forward - here's the official LOGO for this year's 10th Anniversary of BUTT-NUMB-A-THON....

If you want to go, get your application in today. I think you'd get extra points for being willing to travel from so far. However, you would be foolish to come all the way from the UK for standby. Last year it was done by raffle. Show up you get a raffle ticket. I tried. About 50 people were in stand-by. If memory serves me right, two got in. So if you want to go, put some effort into an application.

    by vegas

We have been present either in part or in whole at the last eight Butt-Numbs-A-Thon, and it has always been the highlight of our year. Sadly, the economy is now in the shitter, and we are without enough plungers to keep it from flooding the bathroom. IE: we don't have the resources to make it this year. I wish the best to all our b'Nat friends both from Austin and abroad, we will miss you terribly this year, and we will miss Guero's as well.

...yeah, low budget costume here, too, Nordling :-/ I tried to recreate a regretfully drowning Egyptian, and had to do it all solo. Oh well, every year I always think half the fun of BNAT is even applying for it - I love chewing on the questions and thinking of what to write.

I'm right there with you, Vegas.

    by the reluctant austinite

I've attended seven out of ten BNATs, and I did make it to Fantastic Fest this year, but this economy has claimed me as another victim as well. I was laid off earlier this year, and this has been one of the roughest and most depressing years of my life. I'll miss BNAT desperately, since it's one of the highlights of my year as a film fan and the best Christmas present a geek can get, but reality must be dealt with. I'm not going to cry about it; there are plenty of good people in this country in even worse shape than I am right now, and next Tuesday we can all get our chance to voice our opinion on the situation. What will we miss? I'm thinking "The Watchmen." What else? Maybe "Valkyrie," "The Spirit" and I'd guess at a longshot chance for "Star Trek." The word at Fantastic Fest was that this year's BNAT was going to be spectacular in terms of premieres. But that's not the real reason we love BNAT. We love it because it's like 24 hours of Christmas morning with your 300 of your best friends. God Bless Harry, Tim and all my Austin friends. I'll be seeing all of you again in the near future.

    apostrophe redux

    by thegreatpumpkin

The original is correct because Paramount Pictures was presenting Cecil B. DeMille's (posessive) movie; his name doesn't end with an "s" - your name, however, does end with an "s" so the apostrophe should come afterwards in order to make it posessive (I think).

    by augustusgloop

I'll back you up, GreatPumpkin. Grammatically, the apostrophe should be at the end. Artistically, however, I've got no problem with it like it is. It looks good, and more closely matches the original poster. Anyway, it could have ten apostrophes, and I wouldn't care, as long as I get in (fingers crossed)

I've been wanting to go to a BNAT since I first heard of them roughly 8 years ago. Unfortunately this year BNAT falls on the same weekend as the Red Wings/Stars game up in Dallas.
