AICN Exclusive WHILE SHE WAS OUT Trailer Premiere!
Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.
I recently reviewed Susan Montford’s upcoming film WHILE SHE WAS OUT, and I’m quite fond of it. Anchor Bay, who has been experimenting more and more with theatrical distribution, is set to release this film using a platform strategy, and we’ve got your first look at the red-band trailer today.
This is one of my favorite performances by Kim Basinger, and I hope people give the film a chance. It’s also a nice debut for Montford as a director, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next.
If you need any further incentive, did I mention that Guillermo Del Toro’s one of the producers?
Check it out!

She's too old to have those kids. Sorry, but it's true.
-
stunning bit of overacting on the part of Ms. Basinger, who is always uniformly terrible in everything she's in.
-
Anyone else experiencing this?
-
but it looked good up until then...
-
just when they were gonna point the gun at her va jay jay!
-
Only plays partially.
-
Make it 0 secs in

I'm gonna watch the Clint Eastwood trailer again. Is While She Was Out the Cindy McCain to Gran Torino's John McCain? Hurm...
-
No, actually if you let it keep stuttering all the way till the end, if you hit play again it will play from beginning to end without stuttering. It takes a LONG time, but it works that way. At least it's not like the old days when you'd let it stutter to the end and they were so SCARED of letting you distribute their so-called "promotional material" because it would be saved in your browser's cache, the damned thing would start from the beginning again and stutter all the way through.. over and over. But this is almost as annoying.
Is that Lukas Haas? Great role for him. This looks pretty interesting. -
Is this another of those US-only things? You should really point those out, it takes 5 seconds of your time.
-
Just do it like I said. Let it stutter (minimize it and walk away). When it finally stutters to the end, start it over and it plays through. I have seen the whole thing. Ends with yellow caution tape with the film's name as a logo, followed by a shot of what looks like some sort of clown statue with breathing in the background.

... I'll point out to our tech guys that some of you are having issues with the trailer. It worked for me, but I want to make sure it doesn't keep screwing up. Thanks for pointing it out.
-
but was subjected to a trailer device that irks me like no other: The ol' 'Christmas-Carol-Juxtaposing-Violence' trick. The suits must love, love, love that gimmicky crap.
-
Looks okay although I've seen too many of these movies now from Death Wish to Death Sentence to The Brave One and they're all starting to merge into one another.
-
"Jeez all you talkbackers do is bitch and moan, did you know that talkbackers only make up .001 percent of the population that comes to this site? I hope you all rot in hell you dumb bastards!"
-
WOAH!

Crappy flash trailer that takes forever to load. A far more revelatory trailer has been on Youtube for a while. The Plot in a nutshell: Kim has an abusive husband but loves her kids. She goes to the mall to shop on Christmas and runs afowl of a gang of homicidal thugs led by Lucas Haas. She slowly picks off the thugs off one by one using wits and a convenient tool kit and prevails, gaining a gun from them. She comes home and then kills her husband with the gun and newfound feminine survival strength. It's Taxi Driver/Brave One + Cellular. And that's the whole movie. Yawn.

the fact that Anchor Bay was smart enough to put 'Profit' on DVD. If they make smart choices with home distribution, I hope they'd make the same considerations with theatrical.
-
Straw Dogs would be a closer comparison than Taxi Driver or Brave one. (On a side note, I love violent movies set at Christmas time. This was giving me flashbacks of Gremlins and Die Hard.)
-
THIS. It looks good. I'll watch it on cable. Grand Torino is A MUST-SEE. This is almost there. I like the way it's shot and edited. The thug actors look genuinely scary and evil. Cool.
-
I like the concept: an innocuous act of criticism spiraling into something crazy. I also like horror/thrillers set at the yuletide season. Looks like it's not by the numbers at all, so I'll check it out. Thanks again for Thursday night Mori! Trick 'R Treat was awesome!
-
Not good. Guillermo or no, this looks like a turd.
-
Looks OK, but damn, they give away almost every death in the trailer.
-
Very slow, but it works....
-
who got all butt hurt during the Transformer Talkbacks and yelled at us over the internet for like 3 months??
-
..that the trailer failed to get me interested in the movie, that's all :)))
-
Kind of like Basinger's CELLULAR character got dropped into JUDGMENT NIGHT.
Also, 'too old'? 'Overacting'? Jesus, Alec, let it go. -
...was great it Judgment Night.
-
OH SNAP! Gangstas! Way to take a completely uninteresting turn. I thought she was going to be a killer housewife or something.
-
Can't wait to see this!
-
