HEROES Begins Casting Volume Four: Fugitives!!

Published at:  Oct 21, 2008 12:42:21 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

E!’s Wanda Two Saints reports that “Heroes” has hired the great Zeljko Ivanek (“Homicide,” “Oz,” “24”), who just picked up an Emmy for playing Ted Danson’s evil bald minion Ray Fiske on “Damages,” as The Hunter.

He’ll turn up early in the fourth volume of the series, dubbed “Fugitives.”

Entertainment Weekly reported earlier this month that the late Fiske (not to mention similarly bullet-perforated boss Arthur Frobisher) will be back on “Damages” when its new season resumes Jan. 6 on FX.

Find all of E!’s story on The Hunter here.

9 p.m. Monday. NBC.

    Interesting

    by waspo

I thought that the coverage of Heroes on this site was going to go away. Oh sure the show isn't perfect but they are answering some questions and making sure that as many plot holes as possible are filled. Also, and more importantly, the show is entertaining from week to week, and I can't say the same thing about a lot of shows on television. Plus with Heroes winning the 18-49 Demo in it's time slot the show isn't going anywhere this season or next. Plus when Monday night football ends in January, just in time for Feb. Sweeps I think the ratings are going to go up by at least a million, and a few more people in the key demoes NBC wants.

Heroes seems to like to bring in actors (often more talented than the regulars) to an already overloaded cast, then give them mediocre roles. How could anyone who has seen Damages wonder how Fiske returns? Or did you not notice that much of the first season took place in flashback?

    The Heroes casting method:

    by newc0253

hire actors from great films(Star Trek), great tv shows (The Wire) and beloved tv shows (Greatest American Hero, etc) and have them play a series of bit parts in the latest utterly convoluted mess that the team of retarded monkeys they call writers on that show have cooked up.

    by miyamoto_musashi

Its amazing how quickly they made it so convoluted.
I mean it takes comic companies like DC and Marvel years to get things in such a mess, they have "events" like Crisis of Infinite Earths etc.
Am a big fan of Hiro and Pete, but their powers for me are the main reasons its become so convoluted.

If the ratings keep plummeting like Britney Spear's gunt, there ain't gonna be a fourth season. Seriously - what they need to hire is not another cast member, but a real life time traveler who can go back in time to the Heroe's writers' meeting where they decided to use time travel as a plot device and kill everyone in the room.

    Heroes season 1 v Heroes season 3

    by newc0253

once upon a time, Heroes season 1 used tightly-plotted entertaining storylines, building in clever twist after twist.

In Heroes season 3, the main entertainment comes from predicting which character will suddenly betray their core motivation, arbitrarily change sides, stupidly ignore all their previous experience and/or otherwise make ridiculous decisions because the storyline requires it

I still find Heroes entertaining, and season 3 has been slightly more compelling than season 2. But this show is still a mess and there's only so long that one can rely on the goodwill of fans to keep watching.

    by durikaj

The way I understand it, Season 3 is going to be broken down into two "volumes." Volume 3 is "Villains" (which was going to be the second half of season 2 before the writer's strike happened). Now "Volume 4: Fugitives" is going to be the second half of season 3.

He's a great actor and his role will probably be interesting and have lots of potential. Therefore, he will die in the same episode in which he is introduced, because that's what Heroes does to it's good characters. I bet Pa Patrelli lasts about three episodes, tops.

    Get rid of Hiro

    by serious black

Nothing against the actor playing Hiro, but the show sucks because of the character. None of the stories matter or even make sense when you have a guy that can go into the past to change things on a whim. His ridiculous stance that he will never go into the past again after his feudal Japan experience is just dumb, lazy writing. The actors on the show are all great, especially Quinto. But the writers are not smart enough to deal with time-travel story lines. This would not be a big deal if they just got rid of Hiro or took his powers away somehow.

The CIA would have to abide by the Army Field Manual, which also prohibits beatings, electric or temperature shocks, forced nudity, mock executions, and the use of dogs? He was honoring the letter of the law by defending the Military Commissions Act, which allows the CIA to operate under different interrogation rules than the Army. he was upholding a law already on the books and regularly enforced. That is not catering to the right. That is being a technocrat.

I was onboard for the first 3 episodes. I could deal with the brainlessness. Somehow, smack in the middle of episode 4, I stopped caring. The great team that they spent the first season setting up, Hiro, Parkman, Clair, HRG, woule never actually become a team. Superpowered villans are loose and nobody ever bothered to call the other guys with superpowers in to deal with them. Rather they would all go "oh, you have superpowers as well. Ok. Well, I'm going home, let's forget we ever met." I hope to hear it's gotten better. Until then, "Bringing Out the Dead" is a great book...

Finally. Maybe the writers are listening...

    1. Hiro is told to think for a change.

    2. Peter, absorber of all powers, loses all his. Does he still have the ability to absorb, or is that gone too? I'm hoping the latter, or at least a very long time until he smartens up enough to get them back.

    3. The puppet master should have had Meridith and Barbie into a (potentially) compromising situation. A little mom-and-daughter action wouldn't hurt ratings. I'm only half-serious.

Its weird, the only problem I have with this season is that they made Sylar Peter's brother. Other than that, I think all the problems I had with the way the plot has been going have been fixed and I like what it is leadng towards. The episode felt different to me because its the first time that we have the inkling that there is going to be groups of super powered people together instead of just one or two following their own storyline.

    by lukecash

Tim Kring wants Kristen full time. Kristen LOVES being on heroes. However, as Tim Kring has explained it and Bell has said: Her career is taking off and she doesn't want to be tied down to a TV show. Kring has said they will try to schedule around Bell when she's available.
Kring is actually pretty good about not getting in the way of actors ability to pursue a career outside of his show.
And on Mohinder and Tracy...It's easy enough to explain-he thought that she was just like Nikki...reaching out for humanity. Tracy is a little bit more manipulative.

The top 5 "good" and "bad" of this episode...

    by colegegraduit

The Good: 1) Adam’s powers being sucked away only to turn him into a mortal 3000 year old corpse? That. Was. SICK! 2) …the fact that Claire’s blood can easily heal makes this scene even more wicked/sick. Sure this guy could’ve healed himself with Adam’s blood; he preferred to just steal his powers and see Adam squirm with fear while doing it. Oh yeah; we’ve got a major arch-villain on our hands now! 3) Hiro redeemed himself this episode with admirable comedy relief and, yes, he did not REALLY kill Ando. 4) Claire defeats Puppet-Master-Dork (although I would’ve preferred he was set on fire or something). And 5) This episode was so passable it makes the whole season’s story now look passable. Maybe. *****As for the BAD: 1) Ice-hands Tracy/Nikki simply asks to take Mohinder’s hand and he does? Lame. 2) While it’s nice that the grade school explanation of Hiro “not killing Ando” was right on target, it was still a grade-school solution. Though hey, kids, you were right: Hiro actually goes back in time with fake blood and hands it to Ando. Lame. 3) So Sylar steals powers by touching their brain and Peter just absorbs their powers passively through mid air and now: a big bad guy sucks the “hero” right out of ya. Are we about DONE now with heroes whose “power” is to absorb powers? 4) Speaking of which: this big bad guy’s plan is to mass market powers? WHY? Unless he gets off on stealing powers and wants more people to steal from; there’s no logistical reason to an all-powerful villain wanting to mass market super powers. And the last bad thing: #5) This season is still terribly negative with nobody “new” discovering new powers and using their powers for something good. That said: I’m still hoping that this Villains storyline ends in time for November sweeps and they jump to a story with more heroes and less “villains who ate your brain and now want to be pals.” I at least like the new title: a “Fugitive” story sounds far more interesting than a villains story. After all; this is a series about Heroes, not the villains.

He couldn't have gotten it whilst still having Claire's power, so while he's essentially powerless now's the time.

And as for speedster girl, she's growing on me. Now I kind of want to fuck her. I wonder if her super speed translates to riding a dude ? That would be hot.

    dumb stuff

    by turketron

    1) I dunno why, but having Daphne be able to grab onto someone's hand and bring them while she's speeding just doesn't seem right to me. Whatever though, not too big a deal. People teleport with others, etc on this time.
2)Daphne speeding in and out of the airport in front of the public was DUMB WRITING.3)So, now Hiro has no qualms with going back in time? And why not freeze time when tryng to sneak up on someone? I know we wouldn't have a show, but the way they treat Hiro's powers is DUMB.
4)All that said, I was entertained. Arthur is pretty badass, kind of sad to see Adam go because I liked the actor. Course this is Heroes, they could probably bring him back if they really wanted to but now there's not really a point. 5)Peter still dumb as a brick. Got what he deserved, he never used his powers intelligently anyway. Maybe daddy will show him how it's done. I really want to see a confrontation between Sylar and Arthur now.

Claire got her powers from her mother's side, then. Unless it's been established that it only passes from the father or it's a recessive gene that needs to be passed on by both parents. But if Nathan has powers thanks to science, then maybe his genes were tampered with. Then, he would be able to pass on powers. Itchy, I'm not sure but I would imagine a woman riding your johnson at super speed would rub the skin off. Perhaps not, though. But, is it a chance you wanna take?

my thoughts on this weeks ep.

    by the_joker

Overall I felt this weeks episode was above average compared to the rest of the season so far. I liked the intro of Papa Petrelli, although I felt Adam was kind of a wasted character. Everything with Ando and Hiro was good stuff, Hiro's "That's racist" line gave me a chuckle even if it's an old joke. As someone brought out earlier, Hiro and Ando are the only two characters on the show that are truly likable. I agree with the Puppet Master comments, you know if someone that disgusting and creepy would be seriously using those powers in a perverted way with 3 blondes in the house. I know I made a comment about speedster chick having a fat ass last week, but you can do a lot better than Parkman. I also don't understand why African Isaac wants Hiro to bring him to the villians? What the hell is he going to do, paint them to death? Anyways I still hate mohinder and am hoping that Tracy and Nathan kick his ass next week. I'm also kind of curious as to who the leader of the hero squad will be. The Fugitives title sounds a little sketchy to me. If I know Kring and his affinity of all things X Men, the hunter will be a Boliver Trask character who creates giant robots called... Centinels that are used to track down fugitive heroes. Actually, the more I think about it I'm sure it"ll turn out this way.

    Agreed on Claire

    by _maltheus_

The badass persona is just boring, she was good as a cute cheerleader. Maybe they can use this new unlikable Claire as an excuse to kill her off in order to recover from the drastic mistake of allowing her blood to be able to heal others. Once they did that, I wanted both her and Adam be killed off and it looks like I got my wish on one of them anyway. They need to reintroduce the concept of mortal danger to the show. You can't be considered a "hero" if you aren't really at risk.

I don't think Chuck gets the blame for Heroes' slide in ratings

    by chromedome

27% down from last year is squarely on Heroes' shoulders--if viewers prefer to watch Dancing With the Stars over Heroes, you can't blame Chuck.Chuck has been self-consistent, hits the right tone for what it doing, and has likeable characters, well written dialog.Heroes started to lose me last season when Claire and her flying buddy used their Hero-Powers to humiliate/frame a cheerleader so she could get on the squad herself so she had a plausible lie to tell HRG when she was sneaking out to see her boyfriend. WTF!?!?I fear that not even Kbell can save Heroes if the writing does not improve. Who would have thought that Peter would become more annoying and stupid than Mohinder....?

Private Practice, Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies, Life and Heroes registered minimum 25% viewer declines with their respective fall premieres vs. last year. Of course, Heroes has frakked around with series canon and more than its share of WTF moments, and not of the 'wow, that rocked' variety. The days of 7 ratings and 11 shares, household-wise, are a thing of the past. Chuck IS part of the problem, but not the main problem.

Total Idiot Plot, just a guilty semi-pleasure now

    by homer sexual

Someone said in an earlier TB that Heroes is plagued by idiot-plots, meaning that the characters act like idiots in order to serve the plot. Last night had sooo many examples of this:

Hiro should have stopped time before getting hit by the shovel instead of traveling back. Yes, a tad amusing, but really more stupid than funny.

    2. I can live with Mohinder taking Tracy's hand, but then they just hang around so Mohinder can wake back up. A common incident of stupidity, not unique to Heroes.

Claire has a one-shot taser gun. And of course she just talks and postures instead of shooting the bad guy. Yeah, this is also typical, but it is still stupid.

Peter..well, pretty much everything Peter Petrelli does is stupid. I do like to say his name, though. And soon to be revealved...everyone in the entire cast is a Petrelli!

Fanwanking Through Time and Space... PHAM!

    by bswise

How'd Parkman get to an airport?
Followed the turtle, or, more likely, Issac told him how to get to the nearest road or town and he hitchhiked or took a bus.

How did he get back home?
    Yep, on an airplane.

Mama Petrelli was the one who had Hiro get Adam out ... but she's not working with Papa. So why did she get him out?
I think she had a few questions for him about last season's killing spree, and, what with his magic blood and all, that Level 5 was where she wanted him, but clearly she overestimated Hiro’s intelligence in sending him alone. (Man, they really need to get some better security on Level 5, for real, but I guess they’re running real low on bodies over there.)

So, does Papa Petrelli keep the powers he absorbs, or is it a temporary measure?
God, I hope not, because the ending seemed kind of like a Game Over scenario, with Papa Petrelli now having complete power over time and space, immortality, pre-cognition, the ability to “figure it all out,” fly, go nuclear, control minds, yada, yada. If he’s really got it all, he’s basically Satan On Ice now, so why does he even need a League of Bad Guys now? How could he possibly be stopped? Oh, sorry, it is not for Plot Hole Apologist Man to question why, but rather to apologize when the need arises.

Peter knows there are people with powers, knows it could easily not be his Dad at all but some doppelganger type, yet he just lets him walk up to him?!
It’s likely that Peter could read his Pop’s mind to the extent that he believed him to be real. It bears repeating that Peter has gone from very confused to seriously deranged, so doesn’t really know what he’s doing.

I would still like some explanation on where the kids in this show went? Last week they did still show us that Molly does still exist but what about Petrelli's kids and wife and good guy Matt Parkman is so over his wife and unborn child (that is probably born now) that he is ready to hook up with a much younger woman?
Yeah, that’s kind of how it goes in a bitter divorce. Just ask 90% of Hollywood actors.

Wait...but Nathan got his powers altered by a scientist, so how could he have the genetic material to pass on to Clai[re]…?
Indeed, this is what we’ve been told, that Nathan was given his powers, and that Claire is his daughter, but there’s no reason that he couldn’t have passed a mutation on once he had been mutated. Or, she did get them from her Mom, or Adam, or…, who knows? What exactly Clairebear is and how she came to be in this timeline has never been fully explained.

What’s with the Speedster zipping in and out of the airport? And how stupid is it that she can take someone’s hand and speed them along?
She’s so fast, nobody even sees her, or believes it when they do. I suppose her abilities are less physical in nature, and have more to do with manipulating the flow of time and space around her.

But couldn't he have snuck in and done a little spying before hand? The Petrelli's are all so damn hot-blooded.
Exactly. Powers manifest themselves most fully in moments of duress, as Monster Mohinder has discovered. When one uses one’s powers, it clouds the mind with adrenaline, a vicious cycle that leads to much idiot balling and casual villainy.

What was up with Mama Petrelli's dream in EP2? It had Tracy (or Barbara) apparently teamed up with Maury, fear-sucker, and Adam Monroe. But Adam is dead now. Can't see him coming back after that one.
The future has “changed” since then. Of course, it’s true that Adam does still exist in the past.

I also don't understand why African Isaac wants Hiro to bring him to the villains?
No, he didn’t, just said that you can either bring me to the villains, as was Hiro’s intention, or you can follow your own path, now that Issac has showed him their faces.

So, now Hiro has no qualms with going back in time?
I guess he’s toeing the waters a bit with little itty-bitty trips where he can do the least damage to the time stream.

And why not freeze time when tryng to sneak up on someone?
Well, he didn’t know where Isaac was, so I guess his idiotic plan was to call him out and then freeze time.

Chuck is hitting its creative stride...

    by flickchick85

And NBC Mondays were never "built around" that show. It was the newbie, so it was never intended to carry anything. Their Mondays were built around Heroes. If any show is "to blame," it's Heroes. Chuck isn't to blame any more than any of those other returning shows that are currently in the crapper. The only thing to blame is the damn writers strike. "Pushing Daisies" is back and better than ever, yet it's doing the worst. It's shows like that and Chuck who are the victims of the situation, because they were never given a proper chance to build their audience before the over-long hiatus. For many, Chuck was still "That show before Heroes." Heroes had it's shot, and lost it's audience. Therefore, I'd say Heroes is the show that's failing Chuck (and Monday nights), not the other way around.

Sylar is now the Best Hero Ever! In a really bizarre development, he is shown front and center in the promos of "heroes" against villains.

Apparently he is sorry? He changes in the future? If only our own legal system were so forgiving: So....you killed how many people to get more power? No matter, in the future you are some sort of totally gay dad, so we will not only forgive you, you can be our leader.

I can only think the Quinto as Spock thing has made the writers decide to give him the lead role Milo has done so poorly.

SPOILERS FOR MOST RECENT EPISODE! Glad Ando didn't take the dirt nap He's my favorite by far, and now that we know he can get the Hadoken in the future, its only a matter of time before he gets to bust it out for really reals. Loving Heroes so far this season and can't wait to see where they go next. Also, I saw someone hating on Zeljko Ivanek because he won the Emmy over Michael Emerson. That's silly, Emerson's role as Ben was truely great, but that doesn't mean Ivanek wasn't better in his role. I'll never understand that part of geeks who think because their favorite thing didn't win that its some great injustice. I'm betting the guy who said that didn't even see Ivanek in his role, making them doubly stupid.

Man that spoilers tag was dumb...

    by deathpool

Didn't really understand that spoilers were pretty much par for the course. Forgive me. But really, there are a lot of nitpicky stuff in this talkback. Peter hugged his Dad because its his DAD. He thought the guy was dead, but now is miraculously alive. His guard is let down, he's overcome with emotion, its only natural he'd want to hug him. After all, he didn't know about his abilities. Mohinder quite obviously hates what he's becoming, he wants nothing else but to try and regain his humanity again, despite his monsterous actions. A momentary lapse in judgement is understandable. Daphne zipping in and out of the airport isn't so bad either when you consider that anyone who saw it would probably just blink once and shrug it off by thinking they'd simply imagined it not, "Hey does that girl have super speed?" Besides, people at airports are generally wrapped up in other business to pay attention to others very much, as they're coming or going somewhere, or waiting for someone. And yeah, Hiro could probably fix most everything if he really wanted to, but that's boring. You gotta suspend disbelief a bit when dealing with him, which is understandable.

    The thing about Heroes is

    by amy chasing

Alot of people got into it in the first season and were really pissed off by its ending and season two. It's still one of the most hugely popular non-reality show out there, but people are more wary of what's happening in season three than in most other shows.

Is Heroes a bad show - no. It is entertaining if you like this sort of thing. Thing is it used to be eagerly watched along side Life On Mars (British version). Now it's more on Ashes To Ashes level, if not worse. Sad when a show gets meh, but it happens to the best of them - Hustle, Bones, Scrubs, Stargate...

The moniker "HRG" was all cool and fan-boyish when this show first debuted, and they were being very coy about Mr. Bennet's first name. It seemed strange to have him referred to as HRG in chat rooms and on boards, but fanboys will be fanboys. But when they gave him a name, that was too much. And now, the NBC voiceover guy is calling him HRG in promos. Admittedly, I'd take this more personally if I had seen any of the last three episodes, but I gave up after the first half of the season premiere.

    by snapt

Or make HEROES two hours each week and add Chuck and his hot spy bitch to the ever-expanding cast.

To Chuck haters, yet Heroes lovers...

    by amy chasing

How do ya figure? Chuck has comedic timing, coherent stories, and doesn't pretend to be anything other than a fun little show. While Heroes has confused character portrayals, lots of plots and plotholes, and pretends to be the best thing on TV (it did it's own red-carpet special for god sake). I'm sure there are things I'm missing, but I'm not completely wrong.

    Dammit, I didn't hit enter!!

I think that the low ratings can be attributed more to last year than the quality of this year's work. Its really misleading if one were to think ratings = quality.

So far I think that the show is infinately better than last year just because of pacing. You have to admit that a lot of shit happens each week now. Of course a lot of it is silly shit, and a lot of it is shit that just doesn't jive with the established plot or characters. But its moving by God.

I'm trying hard to enjoy the show and I won't piss on it too much. I'm hoping that once that they have the battle lines drawn that they have produced some of their better work to tie up this arch.

Heroes has been best when there is human charater driven conflict exploding into super human character confrontations.

It seems to me like in trying to fix the lack of compelling conflict of last season that the first several episode of this year are really trying to reset the checkerboard. They have had a few bit plots like the puppit master and the bankheist that get resolved from week to week. But most of the plot is building a groundwork for future events. Are rgey doing a good job of it? I guess if your interested in whats going to happen it would be a good sign.
Right now I'm just as inerested if they can revive the show as I am about any of the plot. Either way I'm still watching for now.

Why have that when BSG RUTSed Heroes when it came back in season 3 with 'The Story So Far'. It would have better served the show to have a clip compilation of the best moments.

mundungus is correct: S2's failures are responsible

    by chromedome

for the current lack of interest in S3I was getting my wife caught up so we could watch S3--she loved Season 1, and could not hardly stand waiting for S2 dvds---she completely lost interest midway thru the S2 set (and I was finding it torture to rewatch them). The low quality of S2, plus the strike's interruption caused audiences to go find things that they like better.

    Calling it now

    by kinjoalcoholicninja

Arthur stole Sylar's murderous hunger from Peter now...though judging by the way he treated Kensei, he may already have it, and Sylar will be the one to kill his father and stop his evil plan. It will all be very clever, original, and ironic.

originally. He simply spliced it into his DNA - that's why he needed the formula. That's my two cents.
