I am – Hercules!!

Brad Ingelsby (Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Low Dweller”) will script Warner Bros.’ big-screen version of Ed Brubaker’s DC/Wildstorm graphic novel “Sleeper.”

Variety describes the Sam Raimi-produced project:

The comic, written by Ed Brubaker, centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass the ability on to others through skin contact.

    Pfft just hire Brubaker

the dude along with Geoff Johns is the best writer in comics. Captain America, Daredevil, Immortal Iron Fist, Criminal. That's 4 of the best 10 books out. Green Lantern probably takes the top prize.

Let Evil Dead 4 go, people.

    by deanbarry

It ain't happening. As for Spider-Man 4 & 5 (assuming he is doing them back to back, I think that's the plan), I have total faith in him. Just finished watching Spidey 2 on nifty blu-ray, not 10 minutes ago. He nailed that in everyway possible. And we all no the problems with part 3 were because of those meddlesome producers. He'll knock the next two outta the park. Just watch. As for Sleeper. Colour me curious.

    terrible synopsis, misses the point

    by lex romero

It misses the most important fucking thing the story is about, that the character is undercover in a supervillian organisation! How do you not include that in the synopsis!

Is this planned as one film for the whole story?

    by ian216a

Anyone got an idea as to whether the story will be split in two "seasons" as the books were? Personally I'm stoked to see this - I loved Sleeper. The origin-telling game should be cool be see, they could use different styles for each one.

    For those who don't know

    by toxicbuddha

the anti-hero protagonist is sent deep within an evil organization of super powered influence peddlers led by the scientifically created smartest man in the world, a being known only as Tao. When the only man on the planet that knows he is really a good guy goes into a coma, the operative finds himself playing both ends against the middle to preserve cover and try to come back in from the cold. Maintaining the ruse forces him to kill government sanctioned operatives and play cat and mouse with Tao. Lost, abandoned and desperately trying to maintain what passes for his moral center while the line blurs more and mroe by the day, the Sleeper has to find a way out.

That's not really a great description of his ability.

    by hst666

He's a rechargeable pain battery essentially. Any normal pain stimulus is stored and he can cause others to feel the pain he has stored.

This really needs to be a sequence of movies. And I hope they do Miss Misery justice.

    Action sequences

    by frozen01

Every good hero/comic book movie needs good action sequences, and I just can't imagine this having them. I understand they kinda fucked up the description of his power, but won't that just leave us with a bunch of scenes of his enemies wincing in pain?
I'm sure the comic is good, but there are some things that just don't translate to the screen well.

    "Sleeper" was a terrific series

    by drunken rage

One of my favorites. Could make for a pretty good movie; I'm assuming it'll be dumbed down and have nothing at all to do with the graphic series, though.

    by lastdragon

...Don't know much about Sleeper other that it was well received and well regarded by the comic book crowd. Raimi has proven that he can do comic books, so it probably won't be a turd.

    "Sleeper??" No Fucking Way!!!

    by mgthedj

I loved this book. It's "The Sopranos/The Departed" set in a superhero universe. Ed Brubaker is a great writer. His "Gotham Central" was a fanatctic mash-up of the best stuff from "Homicide: Life On The Streets", "The Wire", "The Shield", "NYPD Blue", "Law And Order:SVU", and "CSI:(las vegas)."Ok, so someone is getting a paycheck to adapt "Sleeper." That's just the first step. We will have to keep our eyes on this one.-----later-----m

    DC comic movie

    by dazzler69

Sad for DC that you have to say that to know it's a DC prop. You say Thor, Cap America, Avengers, you know it's Marvel. DC is so overrated. All they got is Batman and a gay Superman.
