Okay, maybe the script is already bad, but I've never seen something funny with Seth Rogen. (I hope Kevin Smith will break the curse with Zack & Miri. He even made Ben Affleck and Matt Damon funny!)

    The genius of Knocked Up:

    by bauerjackbauer

The genius of Knocked Up is not "What if this Guy got you pregnant?" It's "What if we took the fat, average guy who exists in every town in America and made him into a movie star?"

    by stinkyfingerz

I agree with Drunken Rage, it seems like every week comes news of Rogen signing on to a new movie. Whenever Rogen attempts drama, he drools all over himself. His comic timing is decent, but it is unbearable to watch him attempt anything dramatic.

He seems like an average, normal guy like me. Yet I am not as well known as he is. Any indication of success achieve by him in his chosen career field makes me personally unhappy. They should not be allowed to employ him based on the simple fact that it upsets me. I could choose to just ignore him, like a normal person would, but instead I prefer to wish him failure.

Fact of the matter is, Apatow, Rogen and co. are making some of the funniest movies to come out in years. Plus, he seems like a way chill dude, down to earth, and success has not gotten to his head. He only babbles his lines and stands around appearing goofy-- that isn't funny???If you want to see funny, rent or buy "Walk Hard": The Dewey Cox Story. Now, that movie is as funny as hell, and only gets better and better as it goes along!!! Trust me, it's a classic, by the producer behind "40 Year Old Virgin". It is his best film to date!!! I'm glad that Rogen wasn't in it!!! He may be a nice guy, but he just isn't funny.

    by badmrwonka

Rogen may not have the greatest range in the world, but who cares? he started up doing stand-up and writing. there are a GREAT many GREAT comedians who had similar limitations, sometimes elf-imposed, sometimes not. look at a legend like Bob Newhart. he never ONCE played anyone or anything but Bob Newhart, and it NEVER made him less funny. if you don't like Rogen's stuff, fine. I think he's hilarious. but don't look down your nose at him because there are similarities in the projects he chooses, stars in, co-writes, or co-produces.it's always cool to fly the hate flag. "why does this guy get work?" "[insert name] here isn't funny at all!!!" "because [insert name here] is enjoying success at the moment, I hate him!! grrrr!!!"I've seen this same senseless anger in AICN talkbacks since the beginning. and I was here in the beginning, kiddos.trust me, give it a rest. if you don't dig it, don't buy a ticket. but stop hating on someone jsut for being successful. especially not when it's a geek like us that ended up writing for Da Ali G show, and then starring in successful movies...honestly, you just look stupid.

...what I said is extreme, but I wouldnt say it's a joke. Drugs are one of society's biggest ills and everybody would be better off if they were eradicated. I dont really have a problem with people who do it once in a while to relax or whatever, but I am very anti-drug, smoking and alcohol in general. The death penalty for users is too much, I'll give you that, but drug dealers/producers should be shot on sight instead of wasting the law's time and money, the only things lower than them on the ladder are rapists and pedophiles, and barely at that.

the reason I can so confidently claim that lame talkbacker hatred of anything popular is the reason behind all the Seth Rogen bashing, is because he's so INNOCUOUS! this is not some controversial figure. he's not as idiotic as Dane Cook, he's not as polarizing as Carlin, he's not really specifically targeted to kids even though there are some pot references in his movies, and Pineapple Express was SORT OF a stoner movie, I really don't get holding him up as the poster child for the stoner generation...I just don't see any reason to HATE him. if you don't like his movies, and you refuse to see them, that means you miss Superbad, and the 40-year-old Virgin, and those are seriously 2 of the funniest movies to have come out in recent years.it's okay, you can admit it, you're just a bitter, cynical talkbacker. you're among friends, it's okay to let it out...

    by themandrakeroot

You are aware that most of the greatest art this world has ever known was a result of drug usage? Picasso, Van Gogh, Hemingway, Shakespeare, The Beatles, Miles Davis, (in fact most of the musical greats), etc, etc. The list goes on, and on, and on. Drugs only become a problem when people dont know what they're doing and take it to an extreme. There's no denying that certain drugs (pot, hallucinogenics) can open your mind in wonderful ways when used properly. I will agree with you that some drugs are stupid and useless (crack, meth, and the likes) and those dealers are scum of the earth... but there's no denying drugs played a huge part in our history, especially the field of art. I think you just need to experiment a little bit, then get back to me...

Thankfully I'm a survivor and I've been c-free for 3 years. But the thing that kept me going was having a sense of humor about the whole thing. You have to or you go crazy.

give me some guys who are funnier then him right now. If anyone says adam sandler they automatically get chopped in the throat. And let's not forget that Rogen is also one of the funniest writers working right now so give the man some fucking respect and stop being jealous that your fat ass is not his fat ass. You guys hate on Jonah Hill, who is also hilarious, so what gives?

I guess I wont be getting back to you then, because I've never tried or touched any of that shit in my entire life and that's something I am hugely proud of! So I wont be experimenting any time soon, even if someone were to put a gun to my head to do it, they'd better be ready to pull the fucking trigger. I've seen enough people around me screwing up their life and health with all that shit, so no thanks. I could almost agree with you about drug-induced creativity, but quite frankly I dont. I'm with Mr Zeddmore on that one, except I dont feel sorry for them.

    I DONT DO DRUGS

    by spawnofachilles

only weed. Look anything in excess is usually bad. This goes for drugs, alcohol, sex (okay maybe not?) food, sugar, etc. Some drugs are very destructive and addictive and should be avoided all together, weed is CERTAINLY not one of them. It's less harmful then alcohol. What causes more death, drunk driving or um uh OD'ing on weed?

its not the issue of weed doing anything other than...

    by dannyglovers_dickblood

...making you fucking annoying to be around. Its the gateway issue. Which is completely true, and don't even give me any line of shit denying that. Growing up-- I knew several friends who smoked weed occasionally. As we got toward the end of High School, it progressed into more and more use until they moved onto bigger and better things. With heavy weed smoking they have to smoke a ridiculous amount to feel anything after awhile. So they move onto the heavier shit. And this fucked up many lives of close friends of mine. One of whom is now dead. I guarantee he wouldn't have just jumped in with the heavy shit....its the slow escalation from one thing to the next that does it. And it is the general sentiment that weed is harmless that makes it so inviting at first.

    by spawnofachilles

NPH, funny in H&K, never saw his show. Colbert is funny but he is a one trick pony, Love, love Jack Black so can't argue there although a lot of TB'ers hate him vehemently for the same reasons they hate Rogen, Carrell, Rudd and presumably Segel all work steadily (some of it thanks to Rogen and Apatow) so what's the problem? Not sure who Dwight Schultz is, Rob Schenieder and Seth Green...umm no. RDJ isn't really a comedy actor. Does anyone really want to see the south park guys in more movies? They should stick to southpark and other shit where they are nowhere to be seen. Plus southpark has been on forever. So most of the people mentioned are either working regularly, involved with Rogen and Apatow's camp, or are just not that funny(to me and compared to Rogen in my opinion)...so again what is the problem?

Margot At The Wedding. Thats all I have to say. Rogen would fucking break down in tears if someone told him he had to play that part as convincingly as Jack Black. The whole, "I'm a geek just like you guys, so come see my movie" plea. Absolutely fucking pathetic. And you jerk-offs fall for it. You should be proud.

I really enjoyed Margot at the Wedding, but to be fair JB was still JB just more controlled, he's said before that he can't play sad and it shows in that movie a bit. Thought it was great and he was great in it but his acting is still questionable at this point.

Yeah I really liked it, very compelling, very interesting characterizations and I loved the fact that Jack Black was in it at all and that he did a very good job. I also really liked Noah's first (I think?) film the Squid and the Whale. Did you see that one? Talk about a fucked up family!

    Rogen is funny.

    by fivezero

He's not super talented ultra funny. But he's written and said some funny things in movies. Some may not like the fact that much of his funniness hinges on being an ordinary schlub and observational pop culture irreverence. And that's too bad. He's funny. Period. Go cry about it.

So people don't like his style of humor

    by frozen01

So what? That doesn't mean they don't have a sense of humor, period.
Personally (and this is just what I think, NOT a comment on the character of anyone who disagrees with me), I just don't think he's that funny. I find his humor to be childish, and frankly no more entertaining than Dane Cook (another guy I never understood how he got so popular).
Of course, maybe 26 is the new 45. I seem to hate everything that's really popular with most folks anymore... Seth Rogen, hip-hop (I'd list a specific artist but I gave up long ago), reality TV... in that "back in my day, comedy movies were funny and music was actually good!" kind of way. God, I feel old!

    by gaiusthebrave

like hell. Frozen01, we just get more discriminating is all. If I ever stop acting like I'm 18, grind up a Gigli dvd and put it in my ice cream. I agree, though, that is odd to hear the words, "well, in my day..." coming out of my mouth. I don't mind, though, because young people today have no taste, dammit! In my day, if we wanted porn, we had to steal it from a friend's creepy father's collection. Ever notice that every tb that mentions a comedian devolves into a shouting match about who has the best sense of humor?

    by redkamel

rogen was funny when he was the average dude who would kind of just show up in the movie (like 40 yr old virgin). Kind of like your friend who is average, and kind of funny, and its good to chill with him. But damn, if you saw him every day, in every movie, youd probably start to hate him. I like the guy, but after 2-3 movies I kinda just got used to him and didnt really care anymore. Also, pot jokes ARE getting old. Just like Will Ferrell, this guy only has one schtick. Its not as good, so it runs out faster. Kind of like how I completely stopped caring about Ferrell at Talladega nights. Him and his whole crew only have one move too, and thats super ridiculous/super serious at the same time.
