The Trailer For David Goyer's THE UNBORN (Not THE UNBOURNE) Is Now Online!!
Merrick here...
MTV has posted the trailer for THE UNBORN, written and directed by David S. Goyer (who served various functions on DARK CITY, BLADE, BATMAN BEGINS and TH DARK KNIGHT) and starring Gary Oldman and CLOVERFIELD's Odette Yustman.
“You’ll notice she’s on the couch at the beginning of the trailer and she’s watching TV. The movie’s called ‘The Unborn’ but when I originally wrote it, it was called ‘Born’ B-O-R-N,” Goyer explained. “And Universal made me change it because anytime we would be on the conference call or something like that people would be confused and think it related to the ‘Bourne Identity’ movies. So, this happened a bunch of times - like we would be sent the wrong files or wrong contracts or things. So that’s how it became ‘Unborn,’ but it does fit for the movie."

...another link anyone?
-
take that talkbackers!
-
I'll give it that it has a lot of cool little visual ideas going on (the weird spider finger things coming through the wall; the old man twisted around). It looks like the movie's plot is just an excuse to throw every idea Goyer had that he thought was scary ever. Fine with me! BLADE TRINITY was so awful though I think I'l wait for reviews...
-
This kinda looks like Prince of Darkness meets Ju-on meets another cruddy Bay produced horror flick...
-
It does have Oldman... He's usually a pretty good gauge for script quality....
-
watch this instead - It's the Election, but Star Wars!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaViiUjH92U -
Seriously, Gary? What the fuck are you doing in this film? It looks like utter schlock. Even the fucking trailer is paint by numbers bullshit.
-
...but those visuals are interesting. And I fucking love Oldman. I'll probably be missing this though. Not enough to really grab my attention.
-
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the one with Donald Sutherland. Possibly the freakiest moment in movie history, set to banjo music no less.
-
How'd Goyer talk him into this abortion? Didn't his agent know about 'Blade 3'?
-
Although I must say Michael Bay's name there is a bit worrying. Let's face it, the guy is like a shit King Midas. Everything he touches, turns to shit.
-
What......what's that you say?..........awwwwww its just his writing that sucks cock.
-
You know you want it. WB, here's your Wonder Woman!
-
little kid/ghost movie. Tired of this shit. If I could travel back in time, I would find Shyamalan and kill him so The Sixth Sense couldn't be made and the whole Japanese ghost
story trend would never be. Fuck this movie. *said with eyes rolling* -
we need to start a new pile for movies like this...they are starting to roll off the top. anyway, this will come and go...i almost aaaallllmost forgot about The Messengers...which i didn't even need to see...the trailer was enough to confirm the obvious.
-
in the trailer alone there are scenes "borrowed" from the excorcist, the brood, phantasm, the other, and the omen...so is goyer a hack or was this movie made to show his love to the horror genre?
-
Looks fucking great. I hope it lives up to this trailer. I love me some creepy bent up people and human faces on animals.
-
He's a good writer...and a not so hot director. Did you see THE INVISIBLE? God Awful...
-
i hope ya like it Quint, but last time i checked out a "creepy" movie i got burned (totally my fault though, i placed my hand on a hot stove and let it there for an hour and a half)...i saw The Eye, yeah...that Jessica Alba version...what can i say, i had an afternoon to kill
-
depends on which Phantasm movie is beig ripped off...i enjoyed the first one, the rest...meh. to each his own however.
-
You think that looked "fucking great"? This looks like all the other Ring/Eye ripoffs. It begs the question of whether Goyer ripped this off from a superior Japanese film or novel we don't know about yet.
-
Soul of unborn kid? Ghost? Demon? So what the hell are we dealing with here? I have a gut feeling this will flop.
-
im no box office analyst...but my guess, 11 or 12 million opening weekend...a 50% drop the next weekend...then...GONE and on its way to DVD 3 months later.

you can bet there will be a "UNRATED" edition as well

It has potential. But pretty cliche too. Oldman rocks!
-
I think THE REAPING had a pretty cool trailer too...
-
even if some of the tricks are old. hmm so what i guess,
-
"Dexter The Movie".
That being said, it looks kinda good. I any case, better then trailer for remake of "A Tale of Two Sisters".
...seems as if they frakked up the dinner/under-the-cupboard scene. -
The movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Half was a little more rooted in psychological horror, and so a little more palatable. (The movie wasn't very good, but it at least had ONE foot in the reality pool.) This just looks...I don't know. It could be diverting, I guess, but when it costs as much as it does to go to the movies, "diverting" doesn't compel my ass into a seat. Gary Oldman, though..
-
Can we move on to the next horror cliche please?
-
I'd really like to see the quick death of the "Old-film-holds-the-secret/evil spirit" trick. It's an indirect but powerful suggestion that we go watch a movie made better twenty years ago, and I usually do.
-
I enjoy Goyer's writing, but am wary of his directing after "Blade 3." Obviously, the guy enjoys genre mayhem, wackiness, and violence, so hopefully he put it together for this new film.
The two things that stick out the most for me about that trailer were:
a) Odette, a hottie extraordinaire who seems to have some acting chops too, and
b) The tweaky, old-school, glass-smashing violence.
A horror movie without rip-roaring violence, aka every J-horror film ever made, loses huge points with me. This new film appears to contain lots of lots of R-rated phantasmagoria.
So maybe it'll be good. I hope so. -
off Alice Sweet Alice as well.... with the raincoat kid and knife...
doesn't it? -
K, that's worth a look.
-
...started talking with the "scary" voice, which means that I watched something liek the first 10 seconds.
Come on, this is one of the lamest cliches ever! I don't wanna see shit like that anymore. Maybe this movie turns out to be the fucking greatest thing ever, but it totally lost me because of that fucking scary kid cliche. -
What is the problem?
-
F#$Ken learn the meaning and the intent of the word: INTERNET.... if you want to release only in the US, then make copies and snailmail them to your US friends... here is a hirez version: http://www.sendspace.com/file/b4e0db
-
...that people actually seem to be liking this trailer. Are you serious? That looks *awful*. The stupid little kid going "He wants to be born now" (horror writers... little kids aren't scary anymore. it's over. they're just annoying now. let it go.). Or "Is it possible to be haunted by someone... who wasn't EVEN BORN!?!?!" Like, what? Why would that be any more fantastic than being haunted by someone period? Only some of the visual imagery in this was worthwhile. Like the old guy twisting his head. Though it's not like that kind of thing has never been done before either.
-
and the scene where the blanket comes off her and the kid is feeling her up or something. That was also pretty terrible. Seriously, this looks good to people? I am honestly baffled. Especially considering how much the talkbackers here seem to immediately hate everything, how does *this* look good to you? It does not compute.
-
And holy shit that is the best horror trailer I think I have ever seen! This just shot up to number 4 on my must see list!
-
That was playing through my head as soon as the reveal came about what's haunting her. She's really hot by the way. She's almost Jessica Alba hot, if Jessica Alba had a fatal foetus nubbin on her Milkior!
-
Isn't he the lead singer of Fall Out Boy? Now that IS scary. (thanks, I'll be here all week.)
-
Evil spooky kid...check (practically every other horror film from the past twenty years)Little person in raincoat holding knife...check (has no one here seen Don't Look Now?)Exorcist scene...check (There have been so many exorcism movies lately I'm expecting "Exorcism At Denny's")spiderwalk person...check (Hello, Exorcist?)dog w/face...check (mentioned earlier with Body Snatchers)Of course they mention the Batman connection, but wasn't Goyer's previous film The Invisible...
-
we'll see
-
So if something has been done ONCE before, it's cliche?! Pump the breaks kid. It's not the clouds in the sky it's the shapes in your eye.
-
the unborn 2 was hilarious
-
...is a turbo-hottie.I have to see this movie because of my "See Every Film Gary Oldman Is In Rule".
-
Had that same rule which is why I sat thru the awful Lost in Space. Live and learn
-
but the child actor looks terrible. When he hit her, I actually laughed, and much like Silent Hill (which it is clearly ripping off), it feels like one of those annoying misses where so much is right, but what's wrong is too much. Still Love me some Gary. Side note: anyone else feel that The Dark was really underrated in this new genre of "trying to do Silent Hill better than Silent Hill?"
-
I have been there my Oldman brother. I have been there.
-
Sheeeeeeeeee-it.
This looks like kind of absolute shit that dumb teenagers guarantee a 20 mil opening weekend.
Also imagine how much cooler this movie would be if the evil little kid was played by the kid from Problem Child. -
Having trouble thinking of another bad one, though.
Jade, that's going pretty far back, and was not that bad. Oldman was good at least
"hmph, that makes us practically related" -
Romeo is Bleeding.

"Keep lookin'."
ROMEO IS BLEEDING. Criminally overlooked. Great performance by Oldman, Lena Olin is weirdly sexy, etc. My favorite Oldman movie is still DRACULA, though. -
That trailer ( and probably the movie ) was absolutely formulaic... boy... never say that last segment of the trailer coming... nosiree.
It's alot to read into a trailer, but I'm willing to go out on a ledge here and say the characters will all be one dimensional and the backstory on why "he" is the way he is will be weak, and the heroine will "win" in the end by shear coincidence.
This whole film reeks of "wannabe" Exorcist, Ring, 6th sense & Poltergeist. ( and I got an odd vibe for Flatliners watching that too. ) -
Because if it isn't it looks like another re-tread of every J-horror flick made over the past 10 years or so.
Look, the trailer had some creepy moments, which can't be denied, but the last thing I want to see is another J-horror retread that revolves around a "damaged soul of a dead child that just wants some kind of justice before it moves on to the afterlife" -
it has some slick production values, they certainly didn't skimp on it...but it still looks like all the rest of the super-natural horror films out there.
-
I don't know what to focus on as the enemy
-
This movie looked interesting until I saw Michael Bay's name. Now I know it's going to be crap.
-
Really? I came up with that first? Good for me.
-
Goyer can't shake the hackery when he directs.
-
I like Goyer as a writer. Gary Oldman, huh? We'll see...I'll wait 'til the reviews come in.
-

Odette Yustman, aka Mandy Moore 2, and another chance for Goyer
by halberd
Oh... and MICHAEL BAY. My attention has been acquired.
-
YAY all the haters are here...lol....pretty silly actually to hate when this actually looks good and ain't a REMAKE which is so rare nowadays. And to some who said they will wait for reviews...really? you let a review make up your mind? you let someone else tell you whats good? wow that a brainless idea no wonder people hate everything on this site.
-
What is the fucking point in having a fucking trailer (which after fucking all is a fucking ADVERT for your fucking film) that does not fucking play out side the US-FUCKING-A?
Talk about fucking your own fucking marketing campaign in the fucking ass!
Fuck... that felt good! -
I gotta go way back and say "Sid and Nancy," with maybe "The Professional" coming in second.
-
"So if something has been done ONCE before, it's cliche?! " No, not really. There is really nothing truly new anymore. It depends on the details, and of course, the story elements. The Orphanage played with familiar horror elements, but the story, and images, lifted it from the ordinary. It's just that the trailer played like a checklist of horror imagery that has been around for years.
-
looked like he was having a ball playing Zorg in 5th Element.
-
How about something original there, Dave?
-
Hmmph.
-
if you can't view it.
-
trailer looks like a mish mash of everything they could think of being being scary... emotion by committee or something.. like someone who didn't know what horror felt like just ripped off everything they thought was scary and tried to emulate that... man to hell with that i'm bored already
