    I have seen the show

    by bukahobbit

I have seen the pilot for the upcoming Nathan Fillion vehicle, Castle. In the show Fillion plays a wisecracking mystery writer who is drawn into a murder investigation because a series of deaths mimic death scenes from his best-selling books (Murder She Wrote, anyone?). Original, it ain’t. However, the pilot’s less than unique premise is overshadowed by the performances. Nathan Fillion and his chemistry with the female police detective, played by Stana Katic, is better than average. There is some pretty snappy dialog and a couple of the supporting players add some humor as well (Jon Huertas as another detective and Susan Sullivan as Castle's mother). We have all seen shows like this before, but Fillion is the spice in the mix that makes this one stand out. I will actually program this one into the DVR. I pray that they keep the tension between Fillion and Katic going, as this is one of the powerful drivers of the show. Over all I would describe this show as breezy. It doesn’t have much substance, but in the heat of a new TV season it will provide a pleasant relief from most of the drivel the networks will be trying to pour down our throats.

What is this? Californication (the writer characte) meets any crime show on the air right now. The concept looks stale, stupid, but it might work. Fillion deserves a better show. Ah, wait, he had one. And no, it wasn't Desperate Housewives...

I am sorry I am not ready to see Mal, River, or Jane out with any other people just yet. My heart is too broken from our recent breakup, brief get together, and then re-breakup. I can't watch Castle, Terminator, or Chuck. Heck I would probably tear up at a Barney Miller rerun. We were so good together, and you broke my heart. Will I ever love again?

Herc doesn't like desperate housewives. Also, that trailer looks... pretty awful. Which is sad, because I want to support Fillion, he's one of my favorite actors. But I don't think I'll be watching this. If Dollhouse doesn't get canned, and after this inevitably does, hopefully Whedon can find a place for him there.

the scene in the preview with the non-cop getting in the way and only surviving by luck and timing, seems a bit more realistic than 'let's give the forensic anthropologist a gun and let her run after and subdue criminals and interrogate them along with the FBI agent.' by jor-el23

the show would be called Beckett & Castle...seems like a limited premise, how many murders can be comitted based on the guy's books? Or does this copycat case just provide a launching point once it's realized that the author can help solve crimes? Either way, doesn't seem like a great premise for a TV show, but I could see it as a movie.

He'd be a great, older-model Hal Jordan, but the studio probably wants an young one for the origin tale, rather than going all flashbacky, though w/ a little make-up they could make ol' Nathan young enough.

    by arcadiands

thats a tall order to fill, there. Moonlighting was a sketch show that grounded each random sketch around the concept of a detective agency. They broke character more times than the guy on Bones only they did it on purpose.
Also, I think more people will know Nat Fil as the cop from LOST than as 'some guy on that chick show on Monday Night that my wife watches in the bedroom because I took over the living room to watch the football game.'
