Latest X-MEN casting rumors
Well the latest X-MEN casting rumor (not fact, merely rumor) is that Jeri Lynn Ryan from STAR TREK VOYAGER (SEVEN OF NINE) is up for the role of Jean Grey and that Halle Berry will be playing Storm. Now these have not yet been confirmed, but it's the latest from the dish-mill which tends to churn out a lot of rumors when the project is called X-MEN it seems. Well, till we hear the confirmations... What do you folks think of these? Well I know so far there have been a lot of names for STORM, basically every black actress in Hollywood, but at 31, I think Halle could do the film and fill the role well. Jeri Ryan though seems a bit odd for the choice. I preferred the rumors of Ashley Judd, who's currently pal-ing around Austin with Natalie Portman. Hmmmm... We'll see, casting is coming fast and furious on this film... So we won't have long till this is answered.
What?
Cyclops? Haven't heard that much on good ol Cyclops.... I've heard everyone from Michael Biehn to Ben Affleck to Jeffery Falcon have been mentioned in conjunction with the character. But if the casting follows the Anna Paquin lead... whoever it is, it'll probably be from left field. Let's keep our fingers crossed for this film.

Hell Yeah! (sorry testosterone poisoning)
Dream Cast
Cyclops - J. Falcon
Storm - Iman
Jean Grey - N. Kidman
Rouge - R.L. Cook
Gambit - J.C. Van Damme (minus butt shot)
any other ideas? -
She would be a better Storm I think. She has a commanding voice. She could command the weather.
-
Micheal Biehn is a killer choice for Cyclops. I hope they fuckin choose him, and Angela Basset is 10 times the actress Halle is. She would bring some serious acting skills to the role. Something Halle lacks. She's fine, but not the best actress in the world. Jeri Ryan is a hottie too, but she just doesn't look like she could play that role (even if she dyed her hair). She can play a strong female character (or what passes as one on _Star_Trek_), but she just doesn't fit. Who the hell could see her playing Jean Grey? I still think unknowns should be cast in the roles. Or a majority of them.
-
By the way, who gives a fuck who is first? We can see that you are, so we don't need to fucking be told it. Well, at least you had something to say other than "I'm first!" Someone explain why the asshole who is always first feels the moronic need to inform everyone he *IS* first?
-
Cyclops? Ralph Fiennes could be good unless he is too old. Beihn is definitely too old (and he actually looks really old). If they need someone younger, Brendan Fraiser is fine.
-
I had her pegged for Storm when I saw her kick ass in "Strange Days". She fits the part so well it hurts. I know what the powers that be are thinking: she'll be too old to be in "X-men 5". Fuck X-men 5; make the best "X-men 1" you can or there won't BE an X-men 5. And the best means Angela Bassett baby.
-
Storm is commanding. Storm is assertive. Storm is almost six feet tall. Storm is not sassy or cute or . . . Halle. I agree with the The Cleaner and have always pictured Angela Bassett playing Storm. Sure I thought about Iman (who has the acting ability of a pencil . . but who LOOKS like Storm) and Tyra Banks . . but none of them have the integrity and believability Angela could bring to Ororo Munroe. Not to mention Halle just doesn't have the voice to do it.
In other matters, I always thought Nicole Kidman would play Jean Gray? Here's to wishful thinking. -
Halle Berry has recently displayed an impressive versatility with roles in films such as Losing Isaiah and Bullworth. But although I think she'll do well in this movie assuming this rumor is true, Angela Bassett is far and away my top choice. Reading some of X-Men graphic novels that I own, I must say that Storm, as drawn by Arthur Adams (my favorite X-Men artist) even looks somewhat like Angela Bassett. Jeri Ryan is a good pick for Jean Grey, though. She's a good actress and she has the body of a comic book hero (i.e. loads 'o' curves and bountiful...you get the picture ).

a friend of mine stumbled upon this Dougray Scott pic from Twin Town...it single handedly convinced me that he is the man for the role...check it out..

Judging the unorthodox casting that this film is receiving, I think that Angela Bassett would fit into this production perfectly.
-
Try as I might, I just can't follow you guys on this Angela Basset thing. Storm is usually (we're not talkin' the mohawk phase here) elegant, graceful and incredibly powerful in a tight lipped way. Angela Basset is in her late 40s now. She's broad shouldered and most of all - have any of you SEEN How Stella Got Her Groove Back? Yeesh! I'm exagerrating on that last thing, but why oh why do wer keep forgetting to mention Vanessa Williams.
She's blue-eyed. How rare is that for a black woman? She's tall, elegant and commands respect. She's beautiful - and she can fully delver the death stare. Fuck Eraser, the woman can act. Sure she's getting along herself, but she should seem worldly, only slightly younger than Wolverine and Cyclops. AND definitely not cute! Beautiful maybe, but NOT cute.
She's the one. No flash-in-the-pan young actor you can't take seriously or give respect to (did I just accidentally argue the case for Angela Bassett there?) - this role must have impact.
-
I'm not familiar with X-men - it was never available where I live. However, I like Michael Biehn and I'd be pleased to see him in a major role. The man has been a victim of some of the most vicious typecasting since Bela Lugosi; he's played the SEAL Officer in three separate films, not to mention a freedom fighter and a Colonial Marine! IMHO, He deserves a chance.
-
I think Thandie Newton would make a decent Storm...not to mention she will be finished up shooting Mission Impossible 2 with Dougray Scott at the same time...As for Cyclops, his character always bored me in the comics....to me he was only there to add tention between Jean Grey and Wolverine...He needs to be a good guy and come across at least a little more complex than he did in the comics without having the flat jock characteristics. Jude Law might not be to bad. He might have to bulk up a bit but he could definitely play the role. a few other names that might work are....Mathew McConaughey, Vince Vaughn, Sean Patrick Flannery, and Nicky Katt. Just a few suggestions.
-
There is only one dude on this planet who could pull off Wolverine, and that's Glen Danzig. He is so perfect for the role, I can't imagine anyone else!
-
As perfect for the role Angela Basset is, she is now simply too old to play Storm convincingly. For years I was thinking of her, but years pass and people age. Right now I'm not sure- Halle Berry just doesn't seem to have the "look" of Storm. Vanessa Williams is probably our best bet at the moment.....
Jean Grey has always been a "grey" area for me- she never seemed as sexy as Rogue or as straight as Storm. Ashley Judd could be right, but Jeri Ryan is just too sexy to play Jean.
Cyclops = Brendan Fraser. Nuff said.
And am I the only person who doesn't know who Glen Danzig is? -
Can we just lay the whole Angela Bassett thing to rest? Sure, in some dream Hollywood A-list cast she'd fit perfectly alongside Tom and Nicole and Harvey (wait a minute, that's the original Eyes Wide Shut cast... and then Jennifer Jason Leigh could be Rogue...), but can you HONESTLY imagine her as a fellow STUDENT alongside Anna Paquin? Wolverine's the 'old man' of the group, and he's being played by an actor ten or so years Angela's junior! Now as for Halle... I had no respect for her as an actress for the longest time. Couldn't get over that Flintstones hump. But then I saw Bulworth, and you know what? The sista can act! Personally in terms of age & looks, I'd be seriously considering Rachel True, but there's just no way to judge how anyone could act in that role without taking a look at the screen tests. NO ONE has ever portrayed a character like Ororo before, so how can we judge who's capable? Trying to decipher Storm-worthiness based on Eraser or The Rich Man's Wife is just pointless. Oh and wannabe- trust me, you don't want to know who Glenn Danzig is. Just let the metalheads whine away in the corner for their hero, and try not to make eye contact with them.
-
Almost forgot... Jeri Ryan? Are you people on crack? Bryan Singer has so far shown a remarkable talent for picking cast members no fanboy would consider in a million years. Why would he suddenly shift gears now and cast someone who A) has displayed no acting talent whatsoever (not that Voyager is much of a platform, mind you); B) looks NOTHING like any possible conception of Jean; and C) exists only to be a geek's wet dream? Why not throw Hudson Leick's name in the hat while we're at it? Or Shirley Manson? At least Shirl is a redhead. Who cares if she can act? She looks good and all the geeks love her. Isn't that what's really important? Jeez people, start thinking laterally for a change. Me, I'm starting to think that Alicia Witt rumor had some merit. She's the right age, she can act, and only 5% of you know who she is. She fits the profile. So, to recap my rantings: Rachel True for Storm, and Alicia Witt for Jean. And how about Jonathan Rhys-Meyers for Cyke? Now there's a lad what's got some acting chops.
-
Danzig would make an OK Wolvie, but he would make an even better Colossus.
-
As much as I loved reading X-Men comics as a kid, and would love to see it on the big screen, I think this movie is in serious trouble already. Sure they've got some really good actors already (ie. Patrick Stewart), but I think what we may have on our hands is another Batman 3 and 4: big name actors, no substance.
I hope this isn't the case, but I really think that when you put big name actors into a movie about some "cult hit" (I use the term loosely), the actors names often overshadow the original concept.
I read some editorial on Cinescape, and I have to agree that I think the only truly correct way to translate a comic to the big screen is to go with animation. Let's face it: the biggest problem with translating a comic to live-action is how the people look. There's no one, no one being people who can act, who remotely looks like the stereotypical male/female comic character: male (built like a brick shithouse) female (Pamela Anderson before she removed her implants). How is Ian McKellan, a scrawny old man, going to look like the buffed, debonair Magneto? Batman padding just doesn't cut it. Sure, a direct translation of the characters with their unlikely proportions doesn't have to be, but I think that's part of the whole fun/image/idea of comics: ridiculously muscled and buffed men and women fighting crime with super powers (or gadgets/skills). X-Men might work with a lot of padded costumes and CGI, but I would prefer to see it as an extremely well-done animated feature that stays true to the original concept, characters included.
BTW, Glen Danzig would make a good Wolverine (kudos to whoever suggested that). However, I have no idea as to his acting ability. Ah, how hard can it be: act like a tough guy in aggressive, clipped sentences (grin). -
For this movie is not good. If you look at the second tier (not in quality necessarily, but as far as name brand recognition) comics that have went to the big screen. None of them have done well. The Phantom was done fairly well, but did not translate to big box office dollars. The Punisher was terrible and I believe went directly to video. I have asked my friends that are not film buffs if they would go see this film. They had never even heard of the X-men. A couple of them had heard of the X-men, but only because of the video games released with their name on it. Batman and Superman have wide based name recognition. The only way the movie could be successful would be if they got big stars. However I don't think any big stars would work for scale or a lesser salary for this film, and though I think Singer is a good director, I don't think he has the pull to tell a 'name' actor how they should play a role, then all of the comic book fans would bitch and moan that they ruined 'my X-men', much like people have bitched that Lucas destroyed 'their Star Wars.' I honestly think this movie will be laughably bad and it will accompany Lord of the Rings as two of the biggest budget failures ever.

You're All Wrong! The part should not be played by Angela Basset
by captainberryman
It *should* go to super model and David Bowie's wife, Iman. She has the accent (lest anyone forget Storm is a native African), she is graceful and regal, and she has this other worldly quality that Storm has. Keep in mind, Storm was worshipped as a Goddess in her native land. Iman could bring this to the part of Storm. Angela Bassett is a fine actress in her own right, but hers is a tough gritty style and I don't think it is suited for Storm. Halle Berry, who I personally believe is one of the most beautiful women on the planet as well as being very talented, would have trouble pulling off the regality and stature that Storm demands. I wish Iman could play Storm, and also that her hubby David Bowie could play Elrond in the Lord of the Rings (which he may do, if there is a God.) As far as Jean Grey... Well now that Ann Margaret is too old (she'd have been perfect for it in her Viva Las Vegas days,) it becomes evident that there aren't a whole lot of great red headed actresses. Nicole Kidman rocks, and she could do a great Jean Grey... Kelly Preston is a knockout redhead, but I think she'd have a spot of trouble with the character. Amy Yasbeck is a cute red, but if it isn't a comedy then you're up a creek. Jeri Ryan isn't bad... but then again she's not that awesome, either. An unknown might actually be better for the role. End Transmission.
-
Storm to me has always seemed very earth mother-ish. And a little older (or older-looking at least) than some of the actresses that have been mentioned so far. Halle Berry is to soft, Angela Basset is too hard, and I'm just not convinced of Vanessa Williams acting ability (although a good choice in the lookalike dept.).
I think pam Grier is the perfect choice for the roll. -
Personally, both these actresses have proven themselves, and Halle Berry should jump at the chance. While Angela is easily a better actress, can you really see her as a STUDENT? Even Halle may be a bit old for this part, but if you did see Halle Berry standing ominously atop of a building with piercing white pupiless eyes, her hair whipping in a wind of her own making, multiple lightning strikes arcing in the background as she raises a hand toward you, gathering a bolt of electrical energy because you just crossed the line... can't you just imagine what they'll do to make Ian McKellen look like when Magneto cuts loose? But Jeri Ryan, while beautiful and an above average actress, I do think they could get a better Jean Grey. But you can't afford Nicole Kidman since she'll drag along Tom Cruise and turn X-men into "L Ron Hubbard's Mutant Eyes Wide Shut..."
-
Corona and Cinescape already looked into this stuff over a month ago. And Jeri Ryan was allegedly reading for both Jean GHrey or Mystique. As for Halle Berry as Storm, who knows? Word is Stacey Dash from Clueless has also read for this so who knows how they'll cast the part. Angela Bassett is the obvious choice ... until you look at her age as it relates to future sequels, her asking price, and her schedule. That's probably why she's out of the running. My vote for Storm would go to Lynn Whitfield, from The Josephine Baker Story, Eve's Bayou, and Thin Line Between Love and Hate. She has the look of an Angela Bassett, is the right age, and is most likely affordable. How about her?

It's always a hoot to me when someone predicts, years ahead of time, that a movie will fail because the source material is "too obscure". Bubelah, Had the general public heard of Men in Black, or Blade, or The Crow before they became successful movies? No, the source material was obscure...and except for Men in Black (Will Smith, who wasn't THAT big a star at the time they cast him) they didn't make money because of their stars, either. Whereas most people (I'm not sure what bubble you've been living in) have heard of X-Men. And, um, EVERYONE'S heard of LOTR. They simply won't be failures. (LOTR only has to make $50 million or so per movie to be successful.)
-
Until all casting desicions are made on this, I'll blast it at a later date. As much as I like the works of everyone involved so far, we're not Singer's casting agents so quit trying to fill the role. I want some info on Universal's IRON MAN... that's a project I'd rather see. Especially an ILM rendition of the new Whilce Portacio armour. What about info on a DAREDEVIL project? Is Chris Columbus following this up besides his FANTASTIC FOUR film? Is Carlei's script out there somewhere? Is Cruise still interested? And SILVER SURFER is supposedly stirring again at FOX, how is their new script? The old one by Richard Jeffries sucked and Norrin Rad is human thru most of the movie. These are stories I'd rather hear about. X-men casting romors are getting old and everyone has just posted their wish lists since this film was first mentioned. Get some real scoops please.
-
How about Leo as the entire cast of X-men? I can't wait to see him as Rogue!
-
Okay, here's the reason Danzig was not cast as Wolverine. Bottom line: HE CAN'T ACT!!! I've only seen him in one movie, "The Prophecy II," where he had no speaking lines, and quite frankly exhibited very little screen presence. I, myself, was pulling for Benny "the Jet" Urquidez, who probably can't act either, but at least looks the part. I don't like Dougray Scott for Wolverine either, but at least he's a good actor. (Keep in mind, Peter O'Toole is also a good actor, and would probably have been as convincing as Wolverine as Scott will be, but that's neither here nor there).
This is also the reason I don't believe Jeri Ryan or Vanessa Williams will be cast. With the exception of Tyler Mane, Singer has cast the film with people who are actors first, and stars second. After the Paquin thing, I'm waiting for another curve. My curiosity is starting to pique. -

Sorry, just doesn't jive. It could be possible, of course, but
by dennis
Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin, Dougray Scott, Sir Ian McKellan...all well trained thespians. On the other hand, he did pick a wrestler for the Sabretooth character, but I have the feeling the part will not require too much depth. Halley Berry, while lovely to look at, doesn't have the physical presence needed to play Storm. This is supposed to be a woman who COMMANDS the elements, who was worshipped as a goddess in Africa. She needs a little Amazon in her. Berry is super petite. It would be a bad choice if this rumor turns out to be true. She's also too freakin' whitebread looking, yuppified, you know? Jeri Ryan is an alright choice, but she's mostly known for being a T&A character on Voyager and might surprise me with her dramatic talent, but I doubt it. Michael Bein....fanboy dream. They need to cast Cyclops younger.
-
Fuck that lame casting shit. My point is that they need Arcade to be the first villain on board, and that he be played by Malcolm Mcdowell.Does anyone else agree? Secondly,I always felt that the only guy who could've played the ultimate wolverine would have been Willem Dafoe.Third, after seeing halle Berry's M&M commercials I knew she was meant to play Storm.Fourth, FUCK CYCLOPS he always had a stick up his ass in the comic.FIFTH BRING BACK BANSHEE!!
-
I checked a couple of facts because I didn't think about Blade or The Crow. MiB does not technically (in my opinion) fall into this category because of Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Barry Sonnenfeld. People would go see anything with Will Smith in it right now. Blade, while I did like the film did have a somewhat major star in Wesley Snipes. Budgeted at 45 million, it grossed a little over 70 million (according to IMDB), so technically it lost money in its domestic release. According to the standard rule of thumb a movie has to make 2.5 times its budget to break even. That is a sliding scale as the budget of a movie goes up. The Crow did make a lot of money $51 million, for its small budget ($6 million), but if you add those things together it barely approaches 125 million. X-men as I understand it is budgeted at about 200 million. I could be wrong on that figure, but I believe I read that sometime. Figuring that in, for the movie to make a profit (domestically, not including video sales, merchandising, etc.) it would have to make over $300 million. That is not going to happen. In history a grand total of nine movies have grossed over $300 million domestically, and none of them had niche markets. X-men would definately be a niche market film. As for what bubble I live in, I talked to a group of people that I work with (all of them male late 20's early 30's, all of them have DVD players with big movie collections), about 1/3 of them had heard of the X-men, and of the third that had, none of them could name any characters. All of us work in the computer field, so we are all part of the so-called geek spectrum, though not necessarily the movie side.
LOTR has a better chance of breaking even based on the fact that the cost of the second and third movies will be lower because a lot of the production cost will be lower, ie using the same sets, etc. A final note on all of this: The best way to make these films viable is to make them different than their original stories. To either modernize them, PC them, or somehow make them set for the 'mainstream' audience, which will alienate all of the people that are dying to see them. -
Keep in mind, that to translate a comic book to a film, you must remove much of the element that is just not realistic. Sure, women with whopping breasts dressed in spandex look great on a drawn page, but they look like circus rejects in real life. Same with the guys. Captain America looks majestic and heroic in the comic book, but see a guy walking down the street in real life, and the first thing that would come to mind would be "steroids". If you want to see a more truthful adaptation, the only way to go is animation as someone mentioned above. Otherwise, this is truly how most comic-to-film movies should be casted. Singer is actually doing a better job than Schumacher already in my book. These actors are NOT big name actors as someone had mentioned before...they are thespians. Ian McKellan is not the equivalent of Arnie, he's a notch above. Magneto's not going to be this hunky old man...he's going to be a twisted moralist who's tormented by his past. Rogue is going to be a misunderstood and confused teenage girl, not some twang-talkin' bombshell. My point is, is that Singer is drawing on familiar human experiences, things we can identify with ourselves to put us in touch with these characters. If you think about it, it's what has drawn you to them all along.

mj- I'm not sure where you heard that $200 million figure, but it's WAY, WAY off. If Fox had wanted that kind of movie they would have hired Michael Bay to direct. Singer got the job specifically because he could deliver a reasonably-budgeted, character-driven movie. And your profit analysis is off too. Think about it- if a movie like Blade, which did (don't have the numbers in front of me) close to $200 million worldwide, LOST money (which is what you're claiming) then how the hell does any studio stay in business? That kind of accounting might look good when Art Buchwald's dragged you into court (old, obscure reference- sorry) but when it comes time to sign Wesley's check the money's mysteriously there, isn't it? And while your friends might not be able to name any X-Men, I can guarantee you that most twelve year olds could. The X-Men have had a successful cartoon, oodles of toy sales, and while the old fogies might not be able to pick Wolverine out of a line-up, he's infinitely cooler than Supes or Batman is right now. X-Men is not just a summer 2000 piller for Fox- this is their big gun franchise for the next decade. They aren't going to back a losing horse.
-
Do not even think about casting that skank Jerry Ryan from that aweful show as Jean Grey or I WILL hunt you down and pop my claws.
-
everyone will know who the X-men are! How many people know much about any film adaptation without all the marketing? How many people knew about William Wallace or Michael Collins or Schindler without the studios telling us all before hand. If they can do that with historical figures, they can fill the public in on a bunch of superheroes. EVERYONE knew who Darth Maul was by the time the first trailer was out there, and that includes the many non-Star Wars fans. Once the posters and trailers start, the hype machine behind this will be overwhelming and the film will open huge. It's ultimate success depends on its quality. A $20M star like Bruce Willis or Gibson as Wolvie may have actually hurt the film more than helped it because of all that $ being spent on them rather than on marketing. After WB got through paying Arnie, how much into the black was that film? (Which also proves a mega-watt star doesn't guarantee a comics film's success). WB said the first Batman just started showing a real profit about 5 years ago because of the huge chunk Jack Nicholson made off it & the merchandising. The stuido's gonna pay the X-cast pretty much peanuts and spend it on the marketing.

200 Million!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
by captblood
The original budget was $120 mil and was cut down to $80 to get the ball rolling on production. And, BTW, the 2.5 times rule applies more to worldwide grosses than domestic. Blade made over $124 mil total so it did just fine... more than enough for the studio to start working on a sequel... they tend not to do that with money losers.

First, let's start off with the fact that X-men is the Number 1 selling comic, more than Bats and Supes COMBINED! Second, it is also one of the top animated shows. So mjbok, this is not a "niche market film". Far from it. My Mom knows the X-Men, and can at least name Wolverine, (though she likes Iceman because he was in that "Nice little Spider-Man show). Next up we are talking about Brian Singer, who not only agreed to deliver an 80 million dollar movie so he could do the casting (so we don't have Bruce making 25 mil as Wolvie), also, Singer went to School of Visual Arts in NYC, one of the top schools for cartooning. I'm sure he picked up some stuff on X-Men while there. Lastly, anyone concerned about the heroes not looking 'heroic', go back and get some X-Men books from the Eighties, there was alot of talking, which is what singer does best. You know there will be action, but there will be a reason for it, unlike a Batman Credit Card.
-
Wow, some of you people are real losers! Get a friggin' life, why don't ya. 1.Angela, 2.Vanessa, or 3.Vivaca. 'nuff said.

Seven of Nine should play Storm. Plain and simple, she would be perfect.
-
He went to USC Film School. How do I know? because I fucking went there with him! He was a senior when I was a freshman. He was getting ready to make Public Access at the time. And he was the first person I ever met at USC! I was invited to some of his and the other seniors' parties but was too friggin' shy to go so I blew making that connection. Still kicking myself over that. Anyhow, there are several of you out there who think Singer knows NOTHING about Marvel or about sci-fi/fantasy films. You are all dead wrong. When I met Singer he was in the (now defunct) trojan Horse Cafe across from USC's Pardee Tower by the Hilton having breakfast with the president of the sci-fi fantasy academy (he was the weird guy they interviewed in the Making of Bram Stoker's Dracula special). And Singer's cousin (this is how he was introduced to me by that guy, I swear!) is Marc Singer of Beastmaster fame. So Bryan Singer is hip to the fanboy realm, okay?
-
Harvey Keitel as Wolvie
russell crowe as cyclopes
madchen Amick as jean grey
basset as storm
but this ain't gonna happen unfortnatly. -
While I'd be open to Jeri Ryan in an X-Men movie (as Mystique rather than Jean Grey) her shooting schedule on Voyager simply wouldn't permit it. She'll be filming on her Trek series from this june 'til probably March of next year. Too bad. I'd also like to put in my vote for Angela Basset as Storm...she's a solid actress, able to hang tough with McKellen & Stewart and only 41 (to Dougray Scott's 34) and in great shape. How about Lena Olin as Mystique? Any money left in that budget, Bryan?
-
i've heard that the beast will be left out of the movie; that sucks,
beast was always my favorite(along with archangel) when i was a kid. -
I've got two picks:
1. Brendan Fraser (impressed the heck outta me in Gods and Monsters, he can really act...)
2. Edward Burns -
Beautiful, graceful, dignified and ingratiating -- Angela Basset is Ororo! No other actress could possibly do the part justice. Halle is good looking, but her acting skills leaves much to be desired. Basset, however, is the whole package. She can act, arouse and kick your ass! 'Nuff said!
-
I can't believe someone is calling for Rob Zombie to play Colossus! What the hell kinda thought is this?
-
Storm: Alfre Woodard
Jean Grey: Linda Hamilton (maybe)
Cyclops: Mel Gibson
Wolverine: Gabriel Byrne
Prof X: Patrick Stewart
Beast (if in the movie): Brian Blessed -
This movie will probably be good for about 2 or 3 scenes totaling about 10 minutes, so who cares. This is just going to bastardize the comic to film fad even more and make me question the existance of God anyway.
Oh yeah, DANZING! -
Singer went to SVA for 2 years or so before dropping out. Then he went to a real film school.

What's God? Also if I was going to cast Jean Grey I would probably want to pick a natural red head, since dyed red hair always looks fake, even if it still looks good. This combined with the facts that Jean Grey has a massize amount of long, thick red hair, Jeri Ryan is very, VERY blonde (if you don't think so you've never een her in person), she doesn't fit the role in any other way, and she really isn't the type of quality actress that Singer seems to be going for.

Wouldn't mind being the meat in a sandwich with those two. And oh yeah, about X-Men, don't sweat it fellas, this movie is gonna suck. Now I'm heading to Austin to put the MAN in Portman.
-
You know who would be tight as fuck for Gambit, if they end up putting him in the film... Barry Pepper. He was the sniper in Saving Private Ryan, he was also in enemy of the state.. put a trenchcoat on that mothafucka and give him a deck of pink glowing cards, make him talk in a cajun accent, and you've got yourself a damn good Gambit

Hey, I don't know how many of you actually SAW Twin Town, but Dougray Scott is DEFINITELY the man to play wolverine - all's he needs to do is bulk up a bit, grow a whopping pair o' mutton chop sideys and the man is there. Angela Basset should definitely get the storm gig - she could play that in her sleep after strange days. I like the idea of michael beihn for cyclops as well. It's good that the casting decisions are being made with regards to the role, as oppose to being an excuse to see how many hollywood egos can be crammed onto one bit of celluloid. The one thing that's bothering me a bit is who's going to play the big blue beast?
-
First things first, why does it get so fucking hostile in these talk back things?
Second- am I the only person who thinks Luke Perry could play Cyclops?
Third- the actors cast thus far are actors. They do character roles. They are not leads in the conventional sense and they really aren't stars either. They are the perfect choices to play characters of such depth and need for verisimillitude (film and drama student here!).
Fourth- am I the only person who thinks Luke Perry could play Cyclops?
Fifth- I don't have a fifth
Sixth- We need them bulked up a bit and in spandex for this movie. Darker tones would lose some of the innate campness, and if you put them in the Batman-esque padded rubber, you lose some of the "super" from them, you know?
Seventh- And plenty people know who the X-Men are. I do a film and drama degree and almost all of my classmates know at least Wolverine and "Dr. X" (as they call him!). Trust me- this film will have an audience way beyond anyone's expectations........... -
I'd like to think of myself as a pretty level headed "geek." I love the old books, but stopped reading them when marvel took more interest in six different foil embossed covers instead of good ole fashioned story. I'm a fan, that's lost it for all the empty hype, but still, desperately hopes that things will get better; that someone, somewhere, will sneak on the set of one of these films, being a true fan (with some real balls) and (for cryin' out loud) make one of these films RIGHT! I'm also a working individual in the film & television industry (not your local public access). I've co-produced a film that went to Sundance and was later released by Miramax... suffice to say that I understand what it really takes (budget and politics)to get a film made, and I know what it takes for a film to be a success - this 2.5 times the budget is layman
-
let me put it this way: I like that he's a true X-fan from what WHITEY says, and I'm sure that the casting that he's chosen will fit into the brand of X-men he sees in his head - I'm sure it will be great. but, if he's not a lover, he shouldn't say he is. if he is more power to him and bring on the X-men.
as far as I -
Sharpe. I don't know what it is about your voice (well... the way your words read), but I feel like I know you. I was reviewing your comments about X-MEN (which I frankly don't really know much about), when I found myself lost in your words. I could almost hear your voice, see your expressions and feel your passions. Does that sound crazy? Well it honestly feels crazy, but I just knew that I had to post this. I knew that if ignored my instinct, that I would always regret it...
So here I am, probably making a fool of myself, taking a shot in the dark. But if it's you, if you remember me, please let it be known. We shared many an adventure together... many an adventure. When you met me, let's just say that I was like a lost little girl in the woods. But with you Sharpe, my life changed. You (with the help of Queen, Mason, Gunther, the dominatrix and more), were a part of a significant time in my life. But you were different Sharpe. It was when I took hold of my life, when I looked death in the eye and trampled over it, when I overcame my fears and explored my desires, when I became a woman, and when I found love.
The last time I saw you, you confessed your true feelings to me, you overcame the pain that for so long made you hard to joy, and opened yourself up to me. Then, that was it.. "The End" so to speak. And I've never heard from you or about you since. The way I see it is that our Creators have left us stranded... I know, what is meant to be is meant to be, but I feel that there is still something to be said--to be done-- about us. But that is not in my hands I guess.
Well, I guess I've said enough. If it's you, contact me. And if that is too hard, give me some sort of sign, and I promise I'll leave you alone. I just need to know you're okay. You'll be forever in my heart.

The people being suggested for the Wolverine role are all around 6' tall except for Mel Gibson. Wolverine is supposed to be a short, stocky, vicious guy not some tall, suave, sensitive man. I get the feeling this movie is not going to be very close to the comic.
-
Hell yeah Storm should be played by Vannesa W. she is perfect for the part, I mean she is fine perfect for Storm, Angela B. is way too old looking for Storm and Hally B. is too skimpy looking for Storm as well. But Vannesa is just perfect as I've said before, besides Vannesa the other perfect person or actress is Tyra Banks
not only does she have the looks but she has the perfect body youd want for Storm.
as for the rest here is what i think would make a good cast.
Storm- Vannesa Williams
Cyclops- Val Kilmore
Jean Grey- Sandra Bullock or Nickole Kidman
Wolverine- Dougray Scott
Rogue- Anna Paquin
Marrow- Fairuza Balk
Magneto- ????
Sabretooth- Tyler Mane
Mystique- Shannon Dohrty (Charmed)
Collosus- Arnold Szwarcheneger
or something -
Harry Connick Jr. :-)
-
Just me:
Wolverine - Russell Crowe
Storm - Iman (but can she
act?)
Gambit - Harry Connick, Jr.
Professor X - Patrick Stewart
Colossus - Arnold
Schwartzenegger
Jean Grey - Joan Severance
Rogue - Bobbie Philips
-
Go grab the Byrne/Austin X-Men reprint books and sit down and read them.
Now, picture these roles played by these people:
Storm - Vanessa Williams (Angela Bassett always looks angry to me and doesn't turn me on at all, but check out Vanessa Williams music videos some time- she made one that was quite stormy. Halle is cute, but looks wrong for Storm. Once the white wig is on, it's all over.)
Wolverine - Gary Sinise (Snake Eyes) Glen Danzig is a Wolverine FAN with weird side burns who works out and does kick boxing. That doesn't make him an actor.
Jean Grey/Phoenix - Laura Prepon from That 70s Show is great.
Magneto - Lose some weight and build some muscle, Rutger Hauer! This role is for YOU!
Cyclops... hmm, maybe Jason Leland Adams should read for this part. http://www.DrQuinn.com/Library/bbadams.htm
As for whether or not costumed superheroes can work in a film, I just saw the preview showing of Mystery Men, and it was big fun. However, they did (once again) needlessly make the city darkest darkety dark. Not all superhero movies are Batman or The Crow, dammit! Why do they all seem to take place in Dark City?
