I guess a girls gotta work
-
I thought this was going to be about Kirsty Swanson.
-
WTF??
-
That's where the name came from.
-
Why wouldn't the knuckle fucks throw a lil more detail on that now-quite-popular name drop?! Talk about lazy ignoramuses...!
-
Barsky.
-
For some reason, Variety often refers to New York City as "Gotham." Why they don't call it New York, NYC or NY... who knows... even if Gotham is a nick name for The Big Apple.
-
It works if ones a witch, ones a zombie, and the other is a werewolf. Especially if the witch is a lesbian.

They're angry at each other... THEN BATMAN PUNCHES FACES!!
by tallboy66
"I'm the GODDAMN BATMAN!!" "Buffy, help us!" *Buffy and Batman fight for 20 episodes straight* That's a damn TV series.
-
At least according to EW's Ausiello. You can now resume your lives.
-
about an actress in a genre show who absolutely hates everything about it. They've obviously done variations on this behind the scenes idea, but never with that type of show, and never with someone who feels they're so beyond it. I'd actually find that interesting.
-
There is not a single piece of this premise that peaks my interest.
-
yawn...
-
Hope it blows and she moves back to the buffyverse, asap!
-
That is all
-
Sarah Michelle Gellar turned in great work, consistently, for seven years on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I'm rooting for her.
-
That you can't even joke about TV-actors, who wanted to make a big movie career but failed and went back to TV anymore. Thank you, Glenn Close and others.

TV is where a lot of the best acting opportunities are
by the podosphere
and where a lot of the best on-screen acting is happening. Side-by-side with some of the worst reality tripe ever to disgrace our airwaves, we've had easily more than a dozen amazing series in the past couple of decades. And yeah, I'll include Buffy in that.
Nobody can blame Gellar for sparking to an intriguing small-screen project. She's got dough; she may feel she's at a point where she'd like to tackle something different than another genre thing like Buffy or horror movies. -
oh, wait.
it's good SMG is trying drama instead of J-Horror and pleased it's on HBO. but the guy who wrote the Interpreter (bland UN thriller) and Life of David Gale (terrrrible death row flick)?
she can do better. -
She left one of the most revolutionary shows to go star in shitty J-Horror remakes. That was an excellent move dont ya just think?
-
As a ditzy airhead blonde who was popular because of her looks, I could kind of buy her. I was one of those fans of the Buffy show who loathed her character, as well as the actress playing her. I for one have no interest in seeing her in anything else.
-
its a porno?
-
mmmh
-
is not that great of a actress. SHe now hates Buffy. Its amazing how her career has gone to pot. She doesnt really have the talent. to do anything other then playing the kick ass cheerleader.
-
and beats her wife..
-
Stayed good until its untimely demise, unlike Buffy which sucked for its last 2 seasons. WTF is up with the leads for those two shows though. Bones? C'mon Boreanaz, seriously? I guess it's successful since it has been on for a few years, but the previews for that show make me groan and/or cringe whenever I see them.
I also want to see Buffy fighting the GADDAM BATMAN on a weekly series though. -
face it SMG, you are buffy and you always will be. if your career hasn't taken off yet, it never will. so come back to the fans that love and want you back, because hardly anybody is going to support this crap. you'll just be out of another job within 8 episodes wondering why nobody likes you.
do more buffy or just stay at home. -
or seh can stay hidden in obscurity with her tiny elf-like nose
-
F you Variety.
-
masteryoda007: "She left one of the most revolutionary shows to go star in shitty J-Horror remakes." Hello, welcome, that simply NOT TRUE.
-----------
emeraldboy: "She now hates Buffy." Again, NOT TRUE.
-----------
turketron: "Stayed good until its untimely demise, unlike Buffy which sucked for its last 2 seasons." Well, I don't think so, but this time, this is only my opinion. But the rest, NOT TRUE. Please, read the internet first. -
She gave the show 7 years of her life, doing 14 hour days, and working to give you guys a good show. She was almost always in EVERY scene. And you fuckers get mad that she didn't sign on for another season? She fulfilled her contract agreement and moved on. Maybe you all should stop your bitching and move on too. You all talk crazy but if Gellar and Whedon got together to make a Buffy film, you'd all line up to see it. I actually bumped into Gellar in NYC and she was really nice to me. She asked if I knew where there was a Starbucks, and I told her where and she was grateful and sweet. Glad she realized that TV is where the good roles are. Hopefully HBO will be a good fit for her.
-
FIREFLY lasted half a season and got the SERENITY movie. BUFFY lasted seven years and gets a Dark Horse comic book series, which while admittedly great, pales in comparison to a movie. And let's face it, the only cast member who's busy at the moment is Alyson Hannigan, so why hasn't this been made already?
-
how stars quit the TV shows that made them a star in the first place so that they can go and make absolutely fucking terrible movies?
-
Because, like X-Files, Buffy was a 90s fad that the mainstream has now ditched. And Serenity bombed remember?
-
Gellar needs to have just one more failure before she is forced into a Buffy return. It could actually be a pretty good movie if done right.
-
Angel was hands down the better of the two and Angel left on a really high note and left a big gap. But, the gap that Angel left was easily filled by Supernatural!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And no, Supernatural is not a rip off. It's in a class of its own.
-
...it should obviously be a mega-apocalypse crossover movie. Spike is looking older but be could have some back story where he was turned human, only to be turned bad into the big bad for the movie by Drusilla.
-
Somebody needs to tell that to the creators of FRINGE then. And here I thought THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE tanked because it was a cheap $30 million production with a standard plot from one of the non-mythology TV episodes.
-
1. Angel better of the two: CORRECT
2. Gap left by Angel filled by Supernatural: CORRECT
3. Supernatural in a class of it's own: CORRECT
btw, what's Charisma Carpenter's fine tail doing these days... -
it had more episodes in the years beginning '20' than in the years beginning '19'.
as a fan of Buffy, i think SMG was entitled to walk away from it when she did. Seven years is a long time for any actor to be locked into a role, no matter how great it is. I also think the timing worked - season 7 was a great way to end the series. -
Wouldn't it be funny to see Charisma Carpenter guest star in Supernatural as a bumbling hunter ? She could be such a bumbling hunter that it drives Sam and Dean nuts.
-
dunno. but not ready to resubscribe to hbo yet..
-
...is guest starring on Greek. Not sure what else she is up to these days.
SMG essentially left Buffy to do Scooby Doo and JRPGs. By that last season, I think most everyone was sick of her character anyway, although it's hard to tell how much of that was just her character being written to be a bore.
I preferred Angel, for the most part, (with the exception of season 4, and most anything having to do with Connor). Boreanaz moved on just fine though. Bones is a reasonably popular show, and my wife and I enjoy it for what it is; another pseudo-crime procedural that actually has some humor in it.
Of the three, Firefly was by far my favorite, though Serenity pretty much killed any chance of seeing more. Still, there's Dollhouse coming up, and I hope it does not suck.
As for this TV vehicle for SMG? Eh. -
Yea, its drama lite and pales beside Angel and Boreanaz' work on Buffy, but NO ONE saw those shows, and Fox has a hit with Bones. So, again blame the viewing public.
-
Not sure where that came from. I meant Japanese Horror movies, of course.
My fault for posting before I woke up. -
and Boreanaz does have a natural chemistry with Deschanel which is very important in a weekly series.
-
I mean, didn't she gush at how talented he was way back? :)
-
This smells like Count Dooku.
-
WAY hotter
-
Just saying. It appears that it's becoming an expensive disappointment for both FOX and Warner Bros (the production company).
-
was so lame i have stayed clear of anything whedon since.
-
How the fuck do you know? From one sentence? There's more than one way to be dysfunctional. I don't care about Sarah Michelle Gellar, I didn't like Buffy and I don't even think she's a good actress, but here's novel idea, maybe watch the fucking thing before deciding how derivative it is or isn't.
-
Reading that description gave me bad memories of "Party of five", but if it's set on the batman universe, I'd totally watch.
-
yeah, don't care unless she gets nekked...and even then I don't care that much. I hope it dies quickly so that SMG is forced to go make a Buffy movie or starve...but this is the same HBO that is bringing back "Tell Me You Love Me" for a second season so not much chance of a quick death.
Also, is Supernatural really that good? This is like the 3rd TB i've come across recently with everybody gushing. I've never watched it but maybe i'll have to give it a shot... -
And there was me hoping it was Kristy Swanson...lol
-
Gotham City? With Batman?
-
Supernatural is really that good and much more. However, it would be best to start from the beginning. The first few eps of season 1 will need some getting used to but from then it will be a big rollercoaster ride and the rollercoaster ride still hasn't been stopped. Oh, and Carry On Wayward Son will become one of your favorite songs after watching Supernatural.
-
started out kind of weak, but has become one of the only shows I make time for. Other than LOST, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Supernatural is one of those shows that really I really look forward to.

Never understood the appeal. 'Course, I never watched the show eiter, which I suppose means I lose certain GEEK credentials.
-
This was a very confusing article.
-
Alyson Hannigan was waaaaay better than Sarah Michelle Gellar on Buffy. Not only was she the cutest piece of tail, but she was a better written, more likeable and more interesting character, performed better by a better actress-and Ill throw down the age old argument by stating she was the hottest on the show. Thats right, over Buffy, over Cordelia and over Faith. Buffy was one of those shows that, although I LOVED it (well most of it),weirdly the lead character was the least appealing aspect of the show(unlike say, Twin Peaks where Cooper was always a brillant and intriguing lead). The dialogue, plot lines and most importntly, the supporting cast MADE that show for me. Buffy was more a catalyst so I could check out the stuff going on AROUND her-Willow, Xander and Giles dynamic kept me through season one, Spike, Dru and "Angelus"made season 2 one of the best seasons of any show on tv ever, and the exploits of the scooby gang in season 3 were always more entertaining that what Buffy was up to. and I reckon season 4 was fairly hit and miss (cough Riley cough) but the episodes of Xander and Spike living together were priceless...season 5 began the steady descent though, of the show in general and particualrly the character of buffy herself-I couldnt stand her at all by season 6. What was I talking about there....? Oh yeah-Alyson Hannigan is hotter than SMG...DISCUSS!
-
that the reason the show began to falter was Dawn? It was always dawn....God I hated her-trachtenberg almost destroyed Mysterius Skin or me to. And thats a damn good film too.
-
is that the mere mention of Buffy/SMG will automatically bring out a more serious TB than pretty much any other topic, Supes and Batman included. For my two cents, Gellar was never as interesting as Whedon's set-up and universe. Unfortunately, Joss has been exposed as a one trick pony. He's really good at creating drama, but it all seems to be the same. I'll include Dollhouse in this, and if it lasts a full season I'll be surprised. Anyway, I agree with Rock Lobster; what happened around Buffy was always more interesting than Buffy herself. Xander, until the midway through the 6th season, was my favorite Whedon character. After the mess that was S6, Wesley became my fave. Moreover, HBO and Gellar will probably not be a good fit. She won't go nude, and how exactly does someone cast her as a porn star when she won't drop her top? HBO will give the show more time than the networks, but I won't subscribe to the channel just because she's on their show.
-
Damn straight....Alyson Hannigan was and still is a very hot and too often over looked...much like Smallville's Allison Mack
-
Dear Gods in Heaven, I hate the way they write and use their own language. I swear you need a translator to make heads or tails of the damn thing. Maybe they should add a Variety option on Google's translation tools.
-
Hotter than SMG, yes.
Hotter than Dushku and Carpenter? Nah.
-
but I DO blame "The First" for bringing the show down. Why have a villain who never wants to have funny banter AND can't be in a fight scene, on a show ABOUT a banter-spewing fighter? And thewoodpecker makes a good point about Wesley being one of the best Whedon characters, but I say the title goes to Anya since she (and sometimes Andrew) were all that was bearable about season 7. Plus she said "...or maybe midgets..."
-
Fillion & co. carried a feature-length story just fine. And if any of you want to piss on it, I'm afraid I'm going to have you to step outside.
-
Loved that movie. It took it a step away from Firefly in an interesting way. Translated well to film.
I think Joss would do just as great of a job with Buffy the movie. I hope someday that she agrees to do one. -
I still want to really fuck her.
-
...I saw it before I did Firefly and it was the strength of the film that caused the addiction to the show that lasted through my first year at university. The one beef I have with the film is that it should have been Jayne with Shepherd Book when he died-look at their dynamic on the show and you'll get what I mean...it would give Jayne at least a bit of dramatic depth to his character, which Mal already had plenty of without. But then again, maybe non fans wouldnt have got that scene, not bothered to follow up by watching the series and then a perfectly awesome film wouldnt have got a sequel it more than deserved....oh wait a minute...
-
Had better be made soon. Nick Brendon will be 38 next year (and is looking the worse for wear, guess rehab didn't take), SMG will be 32, AH is 34, need I continue? 18 months to get this puppy started or forget it.
-
all they'd need to do is advance the setting of the film...so some time has passed???
-
to make her show her tits. They're probably past their prime, but I still want to see them. And grab them. And fuck her in the naughty place.
-
She sucks in everything she does, which is why you see her in fewer projects than even Alyssa Milano.
-
Thus begins the inevitable slide back into TV-Land for these non-movie stars.
-
This sounds like another generic, touchy-feely piece of shite. Who's mom is running the show over there these days?
-
so all you "actors" out there pay attention....you FINALLY get work on a series ....STAY THERE....dont try to work on "other projects" 'cept on hiatus......
-
Her start was her emmy winning portrayal of a young sexpot on All My Children. Anybody that is bashing her for leaving Buffy behind, it was seven years, and though loved by its fans, it never was mainstream. More people saw her in the first week of Scooby Doo than on any week while she was on TV.
-
Very dull premise, but hey, there's a lot of hit shows I'm not interested in, so whatever.
-
Gellar was always so disdainful of her role as Buffy - she never wanted to talk about it on talk shows, as if it was beneath her. Well, after a lackluster film career, look who's back, hat in hand! I love it! And she's not the dewy young thing she once was, so I guess it's "District Attorney" for her ("There are three roles for women in Hollywood: babe, district attorney, and Driving Miss Daisy" - The First Wives' Club)! Love it.
-
Will always be Buffy to me.
