Looks Like They’re Starting To Cast THE GREEN HORNET!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I’m still amazed they’re finally making this film. Lately, there are a number of loooooooooooooooong in-development projects that have finally happened. INDY 4. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. And now, THE GREEN HORNET. I love the casting of Stephen Chow. I love that he’s directing it. I have utmost faith in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as writers.
And now, there’s a new bit of casting announced, and I suspect that for many comedy fans, this won’t be a name that they immediately get excited about.
I’ll tell you, though, I recently had a chance to sit down and see about 30 minutes or so of OBSERVE & REPORT, the new film from Jody Hill, director of THE FOOT FIST WAY and HBO’s upcoming EAST BOUND AND DOWN, and Michael Pena has a role in that film that is so absolutely bizarre and hilarious that it makes sense to me that Rogen, who is the star of OBSERVE & REPORT, would immediately want to work with him again.
Here’s the e-mail we got earlier today from erstwhile editor of IESB, Robert “Not the one who crashed the train” Sanchez:
Peña says Seth Rogen has offered him a role in the upcoming superhero film THE GREEN HORNET.

None, whatsoever.

Damm you seth rogan!

He needs his own show. "If wishes was horses we'd all be eatn' steak."

please mash the keypad with the palm ... now.

The Hollywood movie machine keeps digging up these comic dudes. With average movies now approaching astronomical costs of between 5-10% of the USAs daily deficit do they think they are going to actually make a profit? I mean, how many people would actually go to a Green Hornet movie - I think it will be more Hulk than Ironhomie/TDK.
-
He never managed to make me laugh so far. And since I saw him in the Daily Show and Late Night With Conan a few weeks ago, I pretty much hate that arrogant douche as much as you can hate a man that you know only from TV.
-
But then again, he's actually funny sometimes.
-
And trust me, "The Spirit" *will* fail - like "Speed Racer" sized fail.
-
Remember when everyone and their dog said Heath Ledger would suck as the Joker in "Dark Knight"? It might be a good idea to actually wait until the movie's out before ripping Rogen for doing a bad job, but I guess some people can't wait to hate.
-
Can't stand that non-funny fucker.
-
Will play the same character yet again. Really, does this guy do anything else except playing a dork? The only thing that changes is the movies he is in, but he still plays the same character in every one of them.
-
means "former". Is Sanchez not the editor anymore?

If you guys are seriously saying Seth Green is talentless--
by the gospel according to bastardface
There's no hope for you. The guy is a great actor, very naturalistic, and yes he may be playing to type... but he is also a brilliant writer. I mean come on. The guy wrote Superbad and Pineapple Express, and was superb in Knocked Up. I'm a fan. And I'm not a fickle like you guys seem to be.
-
Shesh. Between Green, Rogen and McFarlane there's too many funny Seth's out there.
-
hahahahahaha.
There were lesser know 80's teen hijinx movies back in the day that were actually better than Superbad and/or Pineapple Express. -
He's awful. Dropping f-bombs and smoking dope doesn't make him funny nor does it make him an actor. A hack in every sense of the word.
-
So you hated all his movies, then? I feel sorry for you lot. I really do.
-
or perhaps a Billy Zane?

...too bad Karl couldn't remember one of them.
-
Wouldn't be kinda cool to somehow make reference to the fact that the Lone Ranger was Britt Reids grandad? (I'm pretty sure this was the connection)...subtley do it, just kind of an insider bit
-
I hate that fat cunt... hack douche-nozzle.
-
...that was some hilariously demented shit. Imagine a redneck version of a Wes Anderson film on crack.
-
I F'ing hate that guy, he's annoying and is a one note comedian on screen. He's exactly the same guy in every movie (in way too many by the way). And some want him to be a leading star? LOL, what a joke. He can't act and is fugly.
Michael Pena is alright, but that casting news is getting me worried. Does Stephen Chow have any say in this movie beside Rogan and the studio? This casting was quick, I don't see Pena fitting in this movie, heck, i'm still trying to convince myself to accept Seth as Hornet. Please give Chow more creative control yesterday and don't start getting all of Seths' comedy buddies in there.
I want a cool, martial arts hero action film, not Pineapple Express 2. -
I ate my words big time after seeing The Dark Knight. I don't know who else will be nominated for best actor, but Ledger deserves it. Not because he's dead, but because that was one damn fine performance.
-
are you guys say Rogan is in the same league as Heath Ledger!? Please. Rogan has about as much acting range as Albert Brooks. Hell, he IS this generations Albert Brooks, only less talanted.
-
Green Hornet starring someone else = possibly not a shit bomb
-
... and not grandfather.
Am I to understand that The Green Hornet is being done as a comedy?? WTF? -
but thats been the case for a few years now, i forget the last actor but it was another comedian who had been attached to this. i think this is back when rumors of jet li playing kato were swirling. but yeah, this being a comedy wouldnt be a surprise since that seemed to be their plan to begin with. though i think this was around the time the charlie's angels movie came out so maybe their plans changed.
-
Fat, drunk & stupid is no way produce a Green Hornet movie, son.
-
The Green Hornet was never a comedic property before so why are they turning it in to one now? Especially after THE DARK KNIGHT. Is it because Richard Lester's SUPERMAN 3 and Joel Schumacher's BATMAN AND ROBIN were so succesful?
-
Just somewhat. I've seen the overrated Superbad and Knocked Up. Nothing I have seen in these Apatow flicks have made me consider them anywhere near the top 10 comedies of all time like they're made out to be by starved fanboys easily humored by mediocrity.
"Less known 80's teen highjinx comedies" I can think of that better any of these flicks?
The Last American Virgin, Better Off Dead, to name a few. I'll even throw in the McDreamy doubleheaders of Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy in there as funnier movies. -
I hope they make it for a dollar because they might make two.
-
Great now I can divert some of my unhealthy hatred for John McCain and Shia LaBeef elsewhere!! Lets do it!
-
Heath Ledger's talent was the same before being cast as the Joker as it was at the end of the filming of "I'm Not There", and people were certain he wasn't right for the Batman movie. Rogen may not knock it out of the park, but it's stupid to say it's not possible.
-
Seriously? Green Hornet? Who gives a flying fuck?
-
You guys don't even try to hide it anymore. QT, Rod, Peter Jackson, Del Toro and recently Judd Apatow and co. And strangely Shia Labuf is more ubiquitous than Sarah Pallin.
-
without the late Wende Wagner.
-
terrible comedian. Actually I can't really call him a comedian. And to the guy relating this to the "Ledger" bashing pre-Dark Knight. FUCK OFF! Ledger was one of the most talented actors at the time (if not the most talented in his age bracket at least). Seth Rogen is just some one-note shite comedian. Fuck him.
-
Ledger was a talented, acclaimed actor before TDK - Rogen has yet to show he has anything nearing actual talent, as a writer, Superbad was a pile of shit. How the hell that garbage ever got any praise is astounding, the characters are unlikeable, there's nothing fresh or new in the writing at all. There is more character development in ABC Afterschool Specials. The characters namedrop Orson Welles and the Cohen Bros, and fanboys cream all over it. There is very very little chance this will be anything other than crap.

Right m_prevette...Rogen gets work because of namedropping
by mrsensitive
You mentioned Orson Welles and the Cohen Bros, how come you aren't getting work in Hollywood? I guess you're not as talented as Rogen is. As for TheWaqman, no one thought Ledger would be good as the Joker until they actually saw the performance. The same wait-and-see rule apply to Rogen, no matter how much wannabe talent scouts bitch about it.
