Live in Chicago? Wanna see the Bill Maher/Larry Charles doc RELIGULOUS? Capone has the details!!!

Published at:  Sep 21, 2008 8:25:23 PM CDT

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here, with a little last-minute treat for the folks in the Chicago area.

I've just been given 50 passes good for you and one guest (or 100 seats) to the the Bill Maher documentary RELIGULOUS for this Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 pm at a Chicago location to be announced only to the winners of this contest (and, yes, this is the day after our EAGLE EYE screening). I haven't seen this Larry (BORAT) Charles-directed piece, but from I've heard (including this review from Quint), it's pretty damn funny and thought provoking. I'll be sitting there in the audience watching it for the first time with the winners.

Here's how to win. Send an email to capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "I LAUGH AT YOUR GOD!" [if this subject line offends you, please don't enter this contest; this movie is not for you]. In the body of the email, I need your name, whether or not you're bringing a guest, and a SHORT answer to the following question: What is the funniest religion on earth and why?

Since this is not an exclusively Ain't It Cool screening, please don't enter this contest if you can't make it to the theater fairly early. I've been talk the film isn't outrageously overbooked, but it will be totally full. I'm ending this contest at noon on Monday, so get your entries in early.

Winners will get an email from me with all the details of the screening. And if you don't win, don't fret; I've got three or four more screenings coming up in the next couple of weeks. You'll have plenty of opportunities to win. Good luck!

Bill Maher is funny and can be insightful

    by prunkhaft

but his condescending tone is gonna just piss most people off, especially when he's talking God. Jesus Camp is probably better at portraying religion in a critical light due to it's resistance of judging the subjects.

Bill Maher will take a joke as far as it will go

    by drunken rage

And he is to be commended for it. And yes, I was one of the (very) few people watching "Politically Incorrect" the night of the OKC bombing. And I laughed.

And to get it all started...

    by shogunmaster

God will always be more relevant than Bill Maher. But ya, I don't get how people who value freedom so much like to bash on people who hold a different viewpoint than them.

If you don't like people that don't agree with how you see this world, then I have 6 billion people to introduce you to that you don't like.

    Wow how insightful...

    by mier1

it isn't. Bill Maher is just another dumbass that thinks since he has an opinion that is "controversial" we should hear it. Like other bullshit docs that spout shit opinions as fact it will go nowhere and be largely ignored by the majority.

I saw this at the Toronto Film Festival...

    by freekill

...It was pretty good. I'm not the biggest fan of Bill Maher, but I thought this movie did a pretty good job skewering the ridiculousness of everyone including Atheists and Scientologists (as well as your standard set of religions). Definitely worthwhile checking out...

    Bill Maher wanted

    by dirtsandwich

George Carlin to see this. To bad he can't. Carlin always said it best about religion. I agree with Maher most of the time. I hope that if he votes for Obama that he's doing it because he hates McSame with a passion, like I do. I prefer Ventura. He won't vote because he knows it's the same fucking shit no matter who gets in.

    Mahr is snark personified.

    by fireclown

It pisses me that I agree with him on the his one great bit about the 911 plotters not being cowards. He was right. Those were committed men. But I just can't look at Mahr for more than about 2 minutes because of the insane smug snarkiness he puts out. It puts the arrogant, unshakable confidence of the fundies to shame.

Also, is there any way we can count this movie as a campaign contribution?

Then listen to his podcast. It's the audio from his show, and it's free (I don't have premium channels so I don't get to see Real Time, but the podcast works very well for me). No need to see any snarkiness on his face! :) Agree with you on the whole 9/11 plotters thing. There are a lot of things you could call them... murderous, hateful, bitter, misguided, koolaid-drinking, evil incarnate, and microcosm of all that's wrong with the world quickly come to mind... but "stupid" and "cowards" aren't true. These people dodged the most powerful government on the planet for years just to blow themselves up. Grande juevos! Too bad that kind of courage and resourcefulness couldn't have been focused into something useful, like p0rn :)

Bill Maher used to be funny....

    by snarky2

....Now he's just annoying. I saw an HBO special where his old, bony ass was sporting a tye dye t-shirt like he was hip. Hey Bill, if you were really "hip", you'd go back to making fun of everyone instead of pretending you are intellectually significant. Here's a tip.....you're not.
