A tidbit on WILD AT HEART 2

Published at:  Jun 23, 1999 9:13:56 AM CDT

Now this is just plain weird. Of course the whole concept of a WILD AT HEART 2... would naturally NEED to be weird, but... Ya know, with Lynch not directing are ya really interested at all? Will this be a straight to video schlock fest, or an attempt at a real live theatrical run? I don't know, but that Horaney guy sent this in... so enjoy... or not...

Today I heard on the radio part of an interview with singer Chris Issac.
He stated that he would be starring as Sailor Ripley in a sequel to David
Lynch's WILD AT HEART.

Filming is set to begin this fall. He said the David Lynch WOULD NOT be
directing, I cannot remember who he said would be.
No word on any other returning cast members. The story picks up with
Sailor and Lulu 10 years later.

    ?!

    by wally west

Just when you thought you had heard the stupidest ideas possible...
This has got to be a hoax. What more is there to tell in the wild at heart story? Would David Lynch really let this happen? Who could even come close as director? Man...my "movies not to see" list is getting longer and longer.

    Sailor and Lula: Some background

    by lord bullingdon

Actually, I look forward to this film. Barry Gifford wrote the original story of Sailor and Lula LONG before Lynch decided to adapt it into Wild at Heart (Gifford is also co-screenwriter of Lost Highway). Anyway, Gifford's a great writer and his sequel to the couple's story is a great read, easily adaptable to the screen, and perhaps not AS appropriate material for Lynch.

    Straight to video schlock fest

    by alessan

No doubt about it. Look, sequels don't work. Period. There a few loopholes to this rule, of course, but they don't apply here. This movie can't work - it's almost a law of physics. (A sequel can make money, naturally. This one won't.) I myself know the secret conditions for making sequels, but I'm not telling.

    Chris Isaak

    by chinchilla

I find it strange that Chris Isaak would be involved in the film if David Lynch weren't involved. After all he has been an important part of Isaak's career. So perhaps Lynch is supporting the film in some capacity...

    Not quite . . .

    by dpamac

Gifford did not write Wild at Heart long before the film was released. He may have written pieces of it, but not the novel. Lynch, a friend of Gifford's, read the book in galleys and decided to make the film based on that. Besides, he made the story his own, setting it apart from the books, which were quite fun. There really is no comparing the characters from the two media formats, as the literary set are infused with Gifford's wierdness and the film versions are infused with Lynch's. However, why would anyone want to make a film out of Sailor's Holiday anyway? Why watch characters you loved age?

Chris Isaac is such a card...

    by los gordos

I don't know if any of you have seen Isaac interviewed but he is one funny motherfucker, and he likes to make up long, elaborate, sarcastic jokes (funny lies) and play with the interviewer. Chances are he was just kidding but if they actually do make this movie -- I'd watch it in a heartbeat. MORE CHRIS ISAAC IN MOVIES!!!

    What The F***?

    by gilmour

It's been a god damn decade since the first film, you cannot continue somethinfg Lynch started, he's just way too original. You all know it's going straight to video, the first was very good but didn't exactly make alot of money. Kepp trying on that film career of your Chris.

    Perdita Durango

    by dr. david banner

I hear there's a movie in the works based on Gifford's "Perdita Durango", which is the character Isabella Rossellini played in "Wild at Heart". Maybe that's what Isaak was talking about...

I Swear This Is Not A Joke!

    by iwiwcn

Personally I cannot see ANYONE but Nicholas Cage as Sailor. I loved WILD AT HEART, it was one of my first forays into the genere. To be honest, I say leave well enough alone. I don't like when different actors take over as the main character. Look at Bond! Look at Jack Ryan! Yes I am crazy, I liked Baldwin better!
    OK enough ranting.

Who cares? That is if this stupid post is real, which I doubt.

    by hellthought

WHOOOOO! Oh damn, that's the best laugh I've had since I read that parody of this page at MovieJuice. Oh, man that was good!
Oh and David Lynch is a pretentious, self-serving, prick who is making a career out of his sick masturbatory fantasies. I could care less if he wants to fuck his own mother, he hasn't made a decent film since "Blue Velvet" and "DUNE" doesn't count, because I think it was a fluke.
If this film is straight up, then I hope it bombs, does not go straight to video, does not pass go and doesen't even collect 200 dollars.
Chris Isuck can rot in Hell, he sucks, and is the only detractor from my enjoyment of the "EYES WIDE SHUT" trailer.

How Many Of U Saw Dusk Til Dawn 2 ? Still, this is a joke..

    by grouchlord

Either way, a sequel or a put-on, it's a joke. I've been avoiding Dusk Til Dawn 2 like the plague. Ahhh, takes me back though; Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and other things Lynch! A pocket of true weirdness in a mediocre world. True, he hasn't been to prolific of late, and since I haven't seen his latest, I don't know where he at as an artist now. -GL-

    Perdita Durango

    by meat takeshi

The UK got an arthouse release of Perdita Durango last year.Directed by Alex de la Inglesia of Accion Mutante fame (Top film check it out). I think you guys in the states got it straight to tape. Any film featuring screaming Jay Hawkins and Alex Cox has gotta be fly.

What Reputable Director Would Touch THis?!

    by willnod

hat I'm wondering is who would direct this tripe?! I can't think of a
single reputable director that would even begin to mess with this. I mean who
would want to revisit a piece of work that's become a classic, besides Lynch
himself, who I doubt would call it "Wild at Heart 2"...that would be like
mainstream Hollywood creating a remake of "Wings of Desire"---but wait:
didn't someone make a horrendous remake of this already and call it "City of
Angels", oh well, you know the Hollywood system.

Perdita Durango was released in 1997 starring Rosie Perez. Ugh. I'm going to pretend it was about the secret life of the dog Perdita from 101 Dalmations.
