UPDATED!! That QUANTUM OF SOLACE Theme Song By Alicia Keys And Jack White...The Whole Thing Is Online!!

Merrick again... HERE is a link to the entire song. And, HERE. Or, HERE (select Jo Whiley: 18/09/2008 - then scroll 55 mins into the show). Also, there's an official stream HERE! (thanks auddym)

Merrick here...
UK's Radio 1 played a snippet of Jack White and Alicia Keys' much discussed QUANTUM OF SOLACE theme song. It's called "Another Way To Die". BBC's website posted the clip, and discusses fan reaction...

A different sampling from the song was revealed last week when used in this Coke Zero/QUANTUM OF SOLACE promo...
...although the Radio 1 clip is the first time we've actually heard vocals from the song.

Sounds okay... going to have to see how it fits in context to the opening, and hear the whole thing. But It still sounds okay.

    Music Good. Vocals Bad.

    by slfricky

It grows on you as a SONG if you listen to it more than once, but as a Bond theme, nope.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 6:58 p.m. CST

Has to be better than Chris Cornell's song...

    by darshn22

The only problems I had with Casino Royale were the crappy theme song and the ridiculous poker hands...

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 7 p.m. CST

    LOVE IT.

    by Zeegloo

This is the perfect choice, considering the direction of the new Bond franchise. Also, I remember people not liking You Know My Name too much... seems like it's grown on a lot of ya. Give it time!

    by Darth_Kaos

There are some parts where it feels like a Bond song, then there are parts (Like when the vocals come in) it sucks balls. I must admit, I really didn't like the Cornell song from CR. But listening to this song makes that one sound a little better. I wonder what Amy W's song would of sounded like if she wasn't such a train wreak. (BTW- She's still Number one on my Death Pool).

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 7:13 p.m. CST

Agreed! Music good, Vocals fucking hideous!

    by quantize

shame, the Cornell song was fine i thought, like the film, it ewas a fresh approach to a Bond theme..which is precisely what was needed, it just lacked that killer hook.

Vocals sound sloppy, unrehearsed and unproduced

    by Le Vicious Fishus

Really--going for raw, poorly recorded and off-key vocals for a bond theme? Are we really sure this isn't a first rehearsal and not the final product?

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 7:24 p.m. CST

    Terrible. Totatlly forgettable.

    by Le Vicious Fishus

I'm pretty easy going when it comes to theme songs and the like. The basic melody and non-vocal production is fine. <BR><BR>The vocals are utter *shit*--off key, dissonant, and often literally painful to hear. Did they record the vocals in one, agonizing take and call it a day?<BR><BR>Unbelievable. Wow.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 7:42 p.m. CST

I hope this is the album version and not the on-screen theme

    by John Maddening

It's so close to being good, but the vocals suck. They sound like they're trying to do a live version. <br> <br> I's say the best "modern" (post-Moore) bond theme was "The World is not Enough", followed closely by "You Know My Name".

    by soup74

are highly stylized and chance taking. we know both of them can sing well and sound over-produced, we've already heard it. this isnt being lazy, its pretty genius actually.

    Cornell IS a god

    by Geekgasm

there is no doubt about that, but i chose to reiterate it anyway.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 7:55 p.m. CST

    Well done!

    by DonQuixote

The lyrics have a real bite and they definitely conjure up images from the world of Craig's Bond. The instrumentation has grit & sass, and the vocalists really know how to curl those words across each phrase. People sneering how it's "off key" and the like...sorry. It's a pro song. You don't like it, no problem. But you only make yourself look silly by suggesting these musicians lack for competence. I like that it doesn't sound like a zombified Barry imitation, and I hope they keep the orchestration to a minimum for the film version. I'd really like it if they left it as crisp and hard as possible. And lastly, this Bond fan is hoping Craig will have at least one "ballad," a lush, slow-style song during his 007 tenure. This and the spectacular 2nd trailer are really delivering. Can't wait for the gunbarrel.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 7:56 p.m. CST

    It's growing on me.

    by Larry of Arabia

That chick from The Gossip should be belting this fucker. It isn't a horrible song, but fuck, Alicia Keys doesn't have the right voice. Bond songs are so hard to do. There is way too much baggage involved. Too many classics that you have to erase the memory of every time. I'd hate to have my song compared to "Goldfinger," "Live and Let Die," "Diamonds are Forever," "Nobody Does it Better," "For Your Eyes Only." So many classics!

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 8:12 p.m. CST

    All hail Tom Jones

    by Madmacks

Actually I am surprised that they have never asked him back! I thought I heard years ago that he was considered again! but the thing is that the Bond producers lean more towards the 'hip' audience of today instead of nostalgia and real talent!!!

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 8:16 p.m. CST

Better than You Know My Name by Cornell. God that was fucking hi

by The Gospel According to Bastardface

So far the Craig Bond's have the worst theme tunes. Piece Brosnan had a few good ones, Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough.

Could have done without Keys. But it's a really good Bond song.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 8:43 p.m. CST

    by DoctorStopMo

Hated the new song; has its strengths, but the vocals ruin it for me. I think "You Know my Name" makes my top 2 picks in Bond themes because it is *that* badass. I'm sure the "Bond should be Austin Powers" blowhards will disagree, but whatever.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 8:45 p.m. CST

    by Le Vicious Fishus

Not stating the artists "lack competence." They're both quite talented and skilled artists. It is my fervent opinion, however, that vocals on this track are awful for myriad reasons. The bottom line: the vocal track sounds like Keys and White were taking a first crack at it, and the producer decided to use the vocal first track draft.<BR><BR>Musically, the instrumentals sound EXTREMELY produced--so much so that the tinny (and, yes, often discordant) vocals seem even more out of place in the song as a whole. Keys' and White's voices also do seem a bit off-key to my ear at times--perhaps intentionally so. At any rate, I know it's all my opinion. I intensely dislike Keys' and Whites' vocals on this song. And I fully expected to their vocals to kick serious ass... That's that.

What's his connect to all this? The last few efforts have been way shitty, but then again, he did ape Barry perfectly with the end credits version of Tomorrow Never Dies. Too bad Cheryl Crow looks better than Rob Schneider lookalike kd lang.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 8:47 p.m. CST

    Not bad

    by mefrog

It's in the middle of the Bond songs, IMO. Then again, I loved You Know My Name and everyone hated it for reasons I still can't figure out. Like everyone else says, it's the vocals that need the most work but the music is top notch.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 8:53 p.m. CST

I agree with the Something of Boris statement.

    by PirateEmery

    by Le Vicious Fishus

I've given it another listen, and White is a damned good songwriter--this could've been quite good. Keys and White really don't sound good together, imo, and I'm not sure they ever would (even though some better vocal sound mixing would've helped). Weird.

Perhaps it leaves me with no credibility to say this, but I really loved Cornell's theme to Casino Royale. This, however, is an awful awful mess.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 9:17 p.m. CST

    NOT a Bond theme

    by Horace Cox

Fuck, I thought that was a joke. That song seriously sucks. It just is not a Bond theme in my mind - not even close. There's no sense of grandeur to it. It reminds me of being drunk.<p> They should have went with SOMETHING OF BORIS. That tune was catchy.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 9:28 p.m. CST

    by pierrelabite1

Others have said it, I'm going to have to agree. The theme song needs to be heard in context. I hated, and I mean REALLY hated the Chris Cornell song from the last movie until it was matched up with the opening credits. Having said that, I actually like this song quite a bit. It sounds raw, dirty, angry, and very confused...Which is what I hear Bond's disposition in QOS will be.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 9:54 p.m. CST

I *HOPE* that was a rehearsal

    by RockMSockM

The music is fantastic, but those vocals sound like they came out of someone's kitchen, not a recording studio. Yikes. PS: Chris Cornell's song was FANTASTIC, both as a Bond theme and a standalone song. This makes that even MORE evident.

  • Sept. 18, 2008, 9:58 p.m. CST

    Cornell's song was awesome

    by JuntMonkey

What the hell is wrong with you idiots? You Know My Name is great. As for QoS in general, I really don't like that it seems Bond's motives are revenge, anger, and sadness. Wasn't the whole f***ing point of making Casino Royale boring and Craig's Bond a wimpy sap that at the end he turns into the badass, unaffected Bond we all know and love? He shouldn't give a rat's ass about the dead girl anymore, he's Bond.

    by darthliquidator

Not to shout, but WHY HAVEN'T EON HIRED BJORK TO SING A BOND THEME? I mean, really. Listen to "Isobel" from Post and tell me if she doesn't have what it takes to record a killer Bond theme. It would be her biggest US hit ever. But this song is awful--it makes Madonna's theme sound like genius. At least that had some semblance of melody.

    by tattooray

But Cornell is a washed up rock god. Cornell circa "Louder Than Love" and "Badmotorfinger", now THAT was a rock god... and Jack White is a frickin' genius. His only problem is that he knows that entirely too well. He seems a bit arrogant about it. Then there's his strange little freaky baby teeth. You see that Rolling Stone cover with Mick and Keif? Sure it's different but I wonder what AICN 1973 would have been like if Live and Let Die had leaked onto the internet<BR><BR>'It's not Barry, it mixes too many styles - too many odd beats - bring back Bassey or Jones' :o)

That was an utter mess. It was like listening to two bad songs playing at the same time.

McCartney was paradigm-busting, but amazing. This is just reaffirming a shitty track record of bad songs with bad artists. Plus Wings charted that song, this won't do any business other than diehard fans of the artists. And I'd say bring back Barry now, except he's living it up in some Brtish Boca retirement style.

No, I was just musing what the reaction would have been - not comparing the songs. <BR><BR>Though as I say this has grown on me - I'm beginning to quite like it and I'd rather they went different directions that aping Barry to be honest - Goldeneye, which a lot of people love, is one of my least favourite Bond songs because it is too close but without the Barry authenticity it's almost as much of a parody as Weird Al's Spy Hard. I'm not a fan of Arnold either - but there you go - no Bond score has been a must have item for me since Living Daylights unfortunately

    by grandadmiralsnackbar

Living Daylights is pretty bad ass, but it ain't Moonraker. I just hope and pray that the hipsters never discover Barry or Goldsmith. Thankfully Williams is too popular for them....for now. With regard to someone who should write a Bond score, Giacchino would be slick. But, I still want to hear what direction he takes for Star Trek.

Sounds a bit like a Bond Parody

    by thefrood

I had a bunch of mates who wrote the ultimate Bond theme called something like "Diamonds Never Live or Let Die With Love On Her Majesty's Goldfinger Again Twice". This does resemble that a bit but I think it's a grower. Look I just think Jack White is ace OK and have trouble admitting anything he does is not up to scratch. It's a problem I have to deal with. I'm seeking help.

  • Sept. 19, 2008, 4:23 a.m. CST

    by grandadmiralsnackbar

I think it was because Barry was retired. There are parts of the Incredibles where it's close and damn good. However, Giacchino isn't barry and that score ain't no OHMSS or Diamonds Are Forever.

  • Sept. 19, 2008, 4:33 a.m. CST

    Monumental disappointment

and not fit to be a coaster that Chris Cornell and David Arnold put their coffee cups on whilst recording the excellent BOND theme 'You Know My Name'! Almost gave Mad Donna a run for her money...

    Trying too hard

    by kuryakin

The problem is that these new versions of Bond themes try too hard to shoehorn tha artists' own styles into a 'Bond' style. <b> There just aren't the types of singers out there that can pull off that big band theme song and not make it sound like a parody - this is why the kd lang song 'Surrender' is one of the only decent Bond themes in about 20 years and that got stuck on the arse-end of the film. <b> Say what you want about Madonna but at least she had the balls to do a Madonna song and not give a fuck about trying to sound like a Bond theme. Of course, everyone hated that song! <b> <b> This White/Keys one is piss-poor though. Come on folks, you've still got time to use the Adam Buxton theme

  • Sept. 19, 2008, 4:40 a.m. CST

    by kuryakin

Bjork is the reason that David Arnold got the Bond gig in the first place, as far as I remember. <p> She did a song called 'Play Dead' with David Arnold, which was the theme song to this shitty Brit film Young Americans, starring Harvey Keitel. <b> At the time, everyone said the film was shite but that the theme was awesome, sounds like a Bond. <p> So next time a Bond comes along, there's david Arnold trying his hardest to recreate that same Bond sond and , in my opinion, failing.

  • Sept. 19, 2008, 4:46 a.m. CST

    by thefrood

Bjork would be brilliant. However I think she's way off centre doing her own thing these days to go back to the more traditional song structure needed for a Bond theme. We can still hope though.

Even good musicians haven't really done anything interesting with them. This is no exception. Of course, I would put it ahead of most Bond themes. Personally I think they should have done away with the entire trope.

You Knwo My Name was fantastic

    by sambrook

I still don't get the hate for that, I think it's an amazing song I've been listening to it solidly for the past two years, both the rock single version and the more orchestral film version. I didn't really notice it until I saw how well it fitted with the credits, then I was sold.<p><p> This might do the same but, for the moment, I agree with most - it's great great instrumentals for the most part (I love the way they've carried over the opening hook of You Know My Name) but the vocals ditsract from it and don't sound strong enough for a Bong theme. I also agree it lacks grandeur.

    Alas! Ragtag Bond?

    by dioxholster

io hate the new bond, best bond was Pierce Brosnan; he had class, gentleman's charm, sophisticated attitude, and looked cool. plus brosnan played well in storylines where he was betrayed ala goldeneye. heres the best bond themes ever: 1. Goldeneye 2. A View To a Kill 3. Diamonds Are Forever 4. The World is not Enough 5. Live And Let Die ---'you know my name' wasnt bad but it wouldve been nice if it was actually a good ROCK song, because it wasnt. i wish quatum had a rock song that really rocked. this sond has a good melody bad vocals that are all over the place; which im guessing is some lame emotional expression theme to bond, he voice is tampered with so its not smooth, and im not sure what it is sounds like drunk bar chicks trying to sing along.

    by MikeTheSpike

Ha, sorry, I should make the distinction. YKMN wasn't a half-bad tune, I agree. It grows on a guy, and it has the Bond theme as its base, so it appeals on that level. I might've toned down the electric guitar a tad, but what the hell you gonna do? And Diox, I, too, miss Brosnan. That was one sophisticated man, a guy who would drive his sub-boat underwater and rearrange his tie. With Craig, they're taking the "blunt instrument" angle a bit too far, if you ask me. He looks like an old boot.

    Vocals are Dissonant and Strained

    by Le Vicious Fishus

Keys and White particularly sound like shit when singing the chorus together. Didn't these two bother rehearsing the vocals before cutting the song? <BR><BR>Even for a contemporary Bond theme, this one--thanks to the agonizingly bad vocal track--is simply embarrassing.<BR><BR>My opinion--but I'm obviously far from the only listener who thinks so.

  • Sept. 19, 2008, 11:22 a.m. CST

    Love it!

I loved the Cornell theme, too. But I'm a fan of both Cornell and Jack White. This is cool because it's so "out there," and I have a feeling it will fit right in with the vibe of the film. Love the ending of the song.
