UK's Radio 1 played a snippet of Jack White and Alicia Keys' much discussed QUANTUM OF SOLACE theme song. It's called "Another Way To Die".
BBC's website posted the clip, and discusses fan reaction...

Sounds okay... going to have to see how it fits in context to the opening, and hear the whole thing. But It still sounds okay.

There are some parts where it feels like a Bond song, then there are parts (Like when the vocals come in) it sucks balls. I must admit, I really didn't like the Cornell song from CR. But listening to this song makes that one sound a little better. I wonder what Amy W's song would of sounded like if she wasn't such a train wreak. (BTW- She's still Number one on my Death Pool).

I'm pretty easy going when it comes to theme songs and the like. The basic melody and non-vocal production is fine. The vocals are utter *shit*--off key, dissonant, and often literally painful to hear. Did they record the vocals in one, agonizing take and call it a day?Unbelievable. Wow.

It's so close to being good, but the vocals suck. They sound like they're trying to do a live version.
I's say the best "modern" (post-Moore) bond theme was "The World is not Enough", followed closely by "You Know My Name". -

The lyrics have a real bite and they definitely conjure up images from the world of Craig's Bond. The instrumentation has grit & sass, and the vocalists really know how to curl those words across each phrase. People sneering how it's "off key" and the like...sorry. It's a pro song. You don't like it, no problem. But you only make yourself look silly by suggesting these musicians lack for competence. I like that it doesn't sound like a zombified Barry imitation, and I hope they keep the orchestration to a minimum for the film version. I'd really like it if they left it as crisp and hard as possible. And lastly, this Bond fan is hoping Craig will have at least one "ballad," a lush, slow-style song during his 007 tenure. This and the spectacular 2nd trailer are really delivering. Can't wait for the gunbarrel.

That chick from The Gossip should be belting this fucker. It isn't a horrible song, but fuck, Alicia Keys doesn't have the right voice. Bond songs are so hard to do. There is way too much baggage involved. Too many classics that you have to erase the memory of every time. I'd hate to have my song compared to "Goldfinger," "Live and Let Die," "Diamonds are Forever," "Nobody Does it Better," "For Your Eyes Only." So many classics!

Hated the new song; has its strengths, but the vocals ruin it for me. I think "You Know my Name" makes my top 2 picks in Bond themes because it is *that* badass. I'm sure the "Bond should be Austin Powers" blowhards will disagree, but whatever.

Not stating the artists "lack competence." They're both quite talented and skilled artists. It is my fervent opinion, however, that vocals on this track are awful for myriad reasons. The bottom line: the vocal track sounds like Keys and White were taking a first crack at it, and the producer decided to use the vocal first track draft.Musically, the instrumentals sound EXTREMELY produced--so much so that the tinny (and, yes, often discordant) vocals seem even more out of place in the song as a whole. Keys' and White's voices also do seem a bit off-key to my ear at times--perhaps intentionally so. At any rate, I know it's all my opinion. I intensely dislike Keys' and Whites' vocals on this song. And I fully expected to their vocals to kick serious ass... That's that.

What's his connect to all this? The last few efforts have been way shitty,but then again, he did ape Barry perfectly with the end credits version of Tomorrow Never Dies. Too bad Cheryl Crow looks better than Rob Schneider lookalike kd lang.

It's in the middle of the Bond songs, IMO. Then again, I loved You Know My Name and everyone hated it for reasons I still can't figure out. Like everyone else says, it's the vocals that need the most work but the music is top notch.

I've given it another listen, and White is a damned good songwriter--this could've been quite good. Keys and White really don't sound good together, imo, and I'm not sure they ever would (even though some better vocal sound mixing would've helped). Weird.

Fuck, I thought that was a joke. That song seriously sucks. It just is not a Bond theme in my mind - not even close. There's no sense of grandeur to it. It reminds me of being drunk.

Others have said it, I'm going to have to agree. The theme song needs to be heard in context. I hated, and I mean REALLY hated the Chris Cornell song from the last movie until it was matched up with the opening credits. Having said that, I actually like this song quite a bit. It sounds raw, dirty, angry, and very confused...Which is what I hear Bond's disposition in QOS will be.

Not to shout, but WHY HAVEN'T EON HIRED BJORK TO SING A BOND THEME? I mean, really. Listen to "Isobel" from Post and tell me if she doesn't have what it takes to record a killer Bond theme. It would be her biggest US hit ever. But this song is awful--it makes Madonna's theme sound like genius. At least that had some semblance of melody.

No, I was just musing what the reaction would have been - not comparing the songs. Though as I say this has grown on me - I'm beginning to quite like it and I'd rather they went different directions that aping Barry to be honest - Goldeneye, which a lot of people love, is one of my least favourite Bond songs because it is too close but without the Barry authenticity it's almost as much of a parody as Weird Al's Spy Hard. I'm not a fan of Arnold either - but there you go - no Bond score has been a must have item for me since Living Daylights unfortunately

Living Daylights is pretty bad ass, but it ain't Moonraker. I just hope and pray that the hipsters never discover Barry or Goldsmith. Thankfully Williams is too popular for them....for now.

I had a bunch of mates who wrote the ultimate Bond theme called something like "Diamonds Never Live or Let Die With Love On Her Majesty's Goldfinger Again Twice".
This does resemble that a bit but I think it's a grower.
Look I just think Jack White is ace OK and have trouble admitting anything he does is not up to scratch.
It's a problem I have to deal with. I'm seeking help.

I think it was because Barry was retired. There are parts of the Incredibles where it's close and damn good. However, Giacchino isn't barry and that score ain't no OHMSS or Diamonds Are Forever.

The problem is that these new versions of Bond themes try too hard to shoehorn tha artists' own styles into a 'Bond' style.
There just aren't the types of singers out there that can pull off that big band theme song and not make it sound like a parody - this is why the kd lang song 'Surrender' is one of the only decent Bond themes in about 20 years and that got stuck on the arse-end of the film.
Say what you want about Madonna but at least she had the balls to do a Madonna song and not give a fuck about trying to sound like a Bond theme. Of course, everyone hated that song!
This White/Keys one is piss-poor though. Come on folks, you've still got time to use the Adam Buxton theme -

Bjork is the reason that David Arnold got the Bond gig in the first place, as far as I remember.
She did a song called 'Play Dead' with David Arnold, which was the theme song to this shitty Brit film Young Americans, starring Harvey Keitel.
At the time, everyone said the film was shite but that the theme was awesome, sounds like a Bond.
So next time a Bond comes along, there's david Arnold trying his hardest to recreate that same Bond sond and , in my opinion, failing. -

Even good musicians haven't really done anything interesting with them. This is no exception. Of course, I would put it ahead of most Bond themes. Personally I think they should have done away with the entire trope.

I still don't get the hate for that, I think it's an amazing song I've been listening to it solidly for the past two years, both the rock single version and the more orchestral film version. I didn't really notice it until I saw how well it fitted with the credits, then I was sold. This might do the same but, for the moment, I agree with most - it's great great instrumentals for the most part (I love the way they've carried over the opening hook of You Know My Name) but the vocals ditsract from it and don't sound strong enough for a Bong theme. I also agree it lacks grandeur.

I thought the song sucked from the first link from The Boom Box, but hearing the mix from thirdmanrecords, it has totally gained on me. The boom box one sounds like it was a test track. This one sounds more in sync and more properly mixed.

Ha, sorry, I should make the distinction. YKMN wasn't a half-bad tune, I agree. It grows on a guy, and it has the Bond theme as its base, so it appeals on that level. I might've toned down the electric guitar a tad, but what the hell you gonna do?
And Diox, I, too, miss Brosnan. That was one sophisticated man, a guy who would drive his sub-boat underwater and rearrange his tie. With Craig, they're taking the "blunt instrument" angle a bit too far, if you ask me. He looks like an old boot. -

Keys and White particularly sound like shit when singing the chorus together. Didn't these two bother rehearsing the vocals before cutting the song? I loved the Cornell theme, too. But I'm a fan of both Cornell and Jack White. This is cool because it's so "out there," and I have a feeling it will fit right in with the vibe of the film. Love the ending of the song.

I love Alice Cooper and Pulp but there is no way on God's green Earth that either of those tracks deserved to be Bond themes.
Alice sounds like he's half asleep and Jarvis sounds like he's on something.
What was chosen was far better.
Regard Jack and Alicia's effort, I love the "phat", gritty sound - looks like it'll match the tone of the film.
Not sure about the vocals but I'll reserve judgement FWIW when I see it on the big screen with the opening titles.
Oh and Barbara ... give Adam and Joe a cameo in the next film. Both their tunes are funny as shit.

Awful song. Can't figure out which of the two has LESS talent. Though Keyes has a higher opinion of herself, I'm sure. Will this be on her next album: "Me, Myself, and I am Alicia Keyes"

Anyway, I think its a fine song. I dunno if its a BOND song, as its not nearly cheesy and dated enough, but its good on its own merits.

...think the theme song would be classic like someone said because the title itself seems retro/nostalgic, so i expected that, that or some sci-fi synthesizers with cool laser sounds (pew pew shshsh)but it was nether and ended up being drunk hip hop which wouldve worked great if the movie was called "Revenge's a Bitch"

This thing makes my ears and head hurt. AWFUL!!! Even worse than the Madonna song for Die Another Day.
